Why We Love HongKong

Sam and Ben walk through London's Chinatown eating bao and dumplings while sharing why they love Hong Kong. Their parents moved there in the 1970s, they spent childhood Chinese New Years there, and one lived there for six months. They saw monkeys in the jungle.

I feel like my eyes are really small because it's so early in the morning. So today me and Sam are heading into Chinatown in central London, and on the way we're going to be sharing with you some stories about Asia and our affinity with Hong Kong.
And we're going to be eating bao buns.
Oh, good old bao buns. Let's get into it. So sweet.
So guys, before we continue on our journey in Chinatown, it's probably worth going back in time a little bit to give you some context. Both our parents moved to Hong Kong in the 1970s, and they lived there for 14 years. Now, back then it was a very different place, but our parents have told us countless stories of the amazing parties, the insane food, and the friendships that will stay with them forever.
That's the one.
Yeah? Yeah, let's go.
Okay. That's the coolest machine I think I've seen in a long time. And look, they make it over here. There's one fish on its own! There they are. They're really nice and hot. They look delicious. Oh wow, it's got custard in the middle. How's the fish? Oh, really good. It's lovely. So nice, fluffy, nougaty, delicious.
I want some more fishes. I'm gonna have another one.
So our parents took us back to Hong Kong quite a few times when we were kids, and one of the most memorable times for me was on Chinese New Year. We went down to the harbor and we saw the most incredible fireworks.
They literally lit up the sky. And something I'll never forget is during that time I had long hair down to my shoulders, and for some reason everyone thought I looked like Harry Potter. I was stopped in the street multiple times. It was the closest thing I had to any sort of fame, and I did love it.
Oh no, it's open!
It's open, burn! Okay, before we go in, this is my favourite bao bun place of all time. They make the best bao buns in the world.
Okay, let's get one. So we're here.
I'm gonna go for the beef bun, which is this one. I'm gonna get two of them. Two beef buns. Cool, so these are pretty fluffy. I always remember them being nice and fluffy. So just to give you an idea of how fluffy these are, guys, I need to take this paper off first. But look at that. I mean, it's like a cloud. It's literally like a cloud. Cloud. I haven't had these in a year and a half, maybe 2 years. Let's go.
Oh my God, what do you think, Ben?
Oh, they're better than I remember. It's like biting into a cloud of beef. Oh, it's so good. We got Ben's— what are they called, Ben?
Uh, pork dumplings.
Pork dumplings.
What do you think?
Really good.
Describe to me.
It's like this meaty kind of— the flavor, it's like this— obviously tastes like pork. The dumpling's really soft. I don't know what seasoning in, but it's really tasty, really well seasoned. Really tasty. Caught some fellow filmers.
Let's see what they're doing. What do you think they're doing, bro?
I don't know, you can see there's some gorgeous models, so they must be— must be a fashion shoot.
Always something going on in London.
I loved it so much I actually went back to Hong Kong to live there for about 6 months on my own. What most people don't know is Hong Kong is actually around 60% jungle. So within about 20 minutes' drive from the city centre, I was watching monkeys swinging in the trees. It was quite surreal.
So some people have a strong affinity with another country that's outside their homeland. For me and Ben, it will always be Hong Kong. We love the people, we love the food, we love the culture, and the monkeys are pretty cool too.
