Volunteers for EmpowerEducation.world share what they've built in Uganda: two classrooms for 300 children, meals for 5,000 students, a TV system, and uniforms for every kid after a €4,000 donation. They talk about making curriculum booklets, 3D videos, and fundraising, and set goals for the year ahead.

I think I'm most grateful for the people I have met and the impact I've been making. I remember when in summer when we received photos of all the students in Uganda getting the projects we made, I was literally, I was overcome with emotions. It was so amazing to see that something I did was having an effect all the way across the world. So I think that's something I'm really grateful for is the impact and also what I'm most proud of. Before the new year, I hope to be able to get a lot more people on the call, um, so try to reach out to some more friends. And I also hope to be able to continue to lead, um, the medicine group as well. It's a very long answer, so, um, okay, I'm gonna popcorn it to Katarina.
So what I'm most grateful about this project is the people that I've met. Everyone is so motivated and hardworking, and that is just really exciting to see that people care about other people and are willing to help other people. I'm very proud for the impact that we've made. Seeing the kids get the television set in this past summer was really, really cool to see. Yeah, and I hope to accomplish— I hope to like send more videos over to the kids in Uganda and teach them about theater and performance. I think that'd be really cool. And I'll popcorn it to Luna.
Um, I think that my favorite part of this whole project has just been the fact that, uh, since I can translate for my group, I really feel like I'm personally making a big effect as like my individual work is like helping everyone else reach a bigger audience with their work, which feels really cool. And obviously also meeting new people, seeing groups, seeing so many people passionate about so many things. I mean, have a community of people who are just as academically driven as me, but also seem to not just live for school and have like good personalities. Is really cool.
Let me see.
And I'll have Cornetigol say.
I am really grateful and proud of the impact we've made. It was so amazing getting to see pictures of the kids receiving the booklets that we made. Yeah, it was really nice. Something that I'm looking forward to is getting to plan bigger fundraising projects. Yeah, and I'll pass it on to Abby. Um, I'm grateful for this group and just like meeting the people and everything and how everyone's so nice and welcoming and friendly. And I'm really proud of just like seeing the impact that all of us have made on the kids. And in the new year, I'm looking forward to like reaching out to more people for fundraising and donations. And all popcorn to Chloe Tran. So what I'm most grateful for is the feeling that I get from knowing that I've gotten to help people, even if it's only by a small amount or whatever I'm doing. That feeling is really motivating to keep on working. And before the new year, I hope to accomplish hopefully getting to 2 Book Good Stuff. I'm going to pass it on to Chloe L. Most grateful for just being able to be a part of this community and having the great opportunity to not only share what I want to do, which is helping people with others, but also able to help people contribute their own work. And just supporting everyone around me, which is really nice. I hope before the new year to make at least probably 2 more booklets if I can and just help everyone along the way. And Chloe— is that other Chloe here? Okay, I'll pass it on to Sophia. What I'm most grateful for in this group is just being inspired by everyone here. It's just like insane to me how much of an effect everyone had with the booklets, with the food drive, with everything else. Like the fact that we're all helping these children that don't have the same access as us. Like, I feel like that's really important. And what I'm most proud of is just like the booklet that I'm making. And like, I was recently told that it's been approved. So I'm really happy about that. And one thing I really hope to accomplish is making like donations because I haven't really been doing that, but I promise I'll try. And another thing is maybe making another booklet. Yeah, so, and I'll pass it on to Nicole.
So what I'm most grateful for, once again, it would just be honestly viewing everything unfold, getting to see everything happen, see all the people. Because I didn't have an environment where I had a just a group of people from all sorts of backgrounds achieving a single goal before. So it's been honestly just fascinating for me to watch and see all the personalities and see how they ended up working together. What I'm most proud of in my work in the committees, it would be my first aid booklet that I made pretty early on into joining the group, actually. But more recently, it was just seeing all the pictures and the feedback that we were getting from Uganda. And I do hope to make one more booklet before I graduate. And I'm going to go ahead and turn that over to Pranav.
I'm very grateful for— sorry for the loud noise— but I'm very grateful for being part of the club where I was able to see a lot of people who are from all around the country. That was something I'd never really experienced. Like Nicole said, something I'd never really experienced before. And I liked it a lot. Something I'm really proud of is when I first made a chemistry curriculum for the Ugandan school. Apparently, Ugandan schools never had that curriculum, and I was very proud that I was able to introduce chemistry to them. And something I would like to do before the end of the year would be to make the majority of my version 2 videos. These videos are like a better version of the ones I did before, so I can teach a better curriculum. To them. Yeah, and I'll pass it on to Camden.
Okay.
Just any opportunity I have to meet new people and to make new friends always feels extremely nice to me. There's essentially no better feeling to me than seeing everyone in person when was indescribable. That was an incredible experience. So I'm most grateful for every one of you guys and getting to meet all of you. That was incredibly fun. Um, I am most proud of completing a curriculum booklet, the genetics one, which took, I think, I believe a few months of difficult work. It was quite a challenge to simplify difficult curriculum, but we got there eventually. And before the new year, I am hoping to beat my last year's fundraising threshold by at least $100. We'll see how realistic that goal is. I will pass it on to Azra.
So I am most— I'm most grateful for the members of my group because we're— everybody's doing like these little projects that will be like super cool. For the kids of Uganda. And I'm really proud of a 3D model I'm building for a video. I'm just trying to figure out the rest of the final bits because it's kind of hard to put everything together. And what I hope to accomplish before the new year, I want to try to finish the video because I want to try to see if I can figure out how to add a voice to the 3D character to teach the children. I will popcorn it to Ariel. Um, what was the question?
Um, what I'm most grateful for is, I would say, just I really liked all the people that I met. I mean, I haven't met everyone. I haven't been able to talk to a lot of people, but just like in the Vapakirk that I'm in, I met a lot of cool people there and also like that are from other places than where I'm from. So that was cool. And what I'm most proud of is probably also like the people I've that because we're able to like help each other also because we have like different perspectives and stuff, but like on the same topic kind of. So that was really interesting. And I hope to accomplish— maybe if I could finish the first episode of my animation that's been taking forever. So I hope I could finish that by the new year. Um, I'll popcorn it to Namritha.
Um, I think the thing that I'm most grateful for is probably just like being part of this community in general and just meeting a lot of amazing people and seeing like the impact we're making. And then something I hope to accomplish is definitely like making like more videos for, um, to teach like how students how to read and write and stuff because I feel like I've been busy for the past few weeks and I would really want to invest my time into doing that and also fundraising as well. I'll popcorn it to Sophie.
I'm probably most grateful for all the people I've met, like everyone else has been saying, because it's been so incredible seeing the amazing work they've done. And also throughout my entire time here, I've been receiving help from all of them, and I'm just really grateful that they took time out of their day to help me when I was new and even now. So I'm probably most proud of making my booklet because it The topic was something I was really passionate about, and I was glad that I was able to make something and share something I like talking about with children in Uganda who would one day receive it. And for the new year, I hope I can make 2 more booklets, but we'll see how it goes. And I'll popcorn to Amarachi.
All right, so one thing I'm grateful for is like being able to work for people like Sophia and Nicole, because I like to illustrate, and I think a great part of being in this, in the medicine curriculum specifically, is just being able to like flex my passions and do great work for the children of Uganda. And a new year's goal Probably to make another booklet if— when the time comes, especially about the brain. I know some people have done something about the brain, but I like to do my own unique thing. Is anyone else— did anyone else speak? Not that I can see. I think I'm the last one.
Thank you, Amara. Has anybody else not gone yet that would like to share their answers for our opening question? If you haven't gone, just feel free to unmute. We would love to hear from everyone.
I'll go. I'm on my phone, so I couldn't raise my hand, or I couldn't figure it out. But My— let me pull up the questions. What part of the project are you most grateful for? I'm just thankful for the community. It's a good group of people and it's fun to work together on projects. And then I'm new to this, so I don't have a whole lot that I've done so far. But what do I want to accomplish before the new year? I want to make a booklet. Because that's what I've been hearing a lot about, and I don't really know how to do that yet.
That's amazing to hear. What committee are you a part of right now?
I'm in the Athletics Club.
Oh, really cool. Okay, well, hopefully you can be making an athletics booklet. I would love to see that.
All right.
That sounds really fun. I was getting so emotional hearing everyone's responses, especially about like the community we've built. It's been so amazing. Shellee, do you want to share your response to these questions?
Oh, I would love to. So first off, I hope that gave you a really wonderful feeling. What you all have accomplished is, is so much bigger than, than the impact that you can even experience. When I was in Uganda delivering your 5 suitcases of gifts from backpacks to chemistry to— oh my gosh, it was endless— soccer clothes. And you guys have accomplished so much. And so I just wanted to give you a huge congratulations. And sometimes we get so busy in the moment of doing things, it's really great to slow down and be grateful and pause and think about the impact you've made. So In the last year and a half, this group has, has, um, purchased and built 2 classrooms that will educate well over 300 children who would not have had that opportunity. You as a group have fed well over 5,000 students. You as a group have purchased a TV, a satellite system, and the opportunity for students to be able to watch and learn from you. Most recently, one of our group members has donated or sent money over, and we're buying keyboards so children will actually learn how to write and play music. The impact you all have made, I hope you can deeply feel how impactful it has been. Most recently, one of our, uh, students, Francesca, donated well over €4,000, and that was able to get enough material to be able to sew each and every child their very first uniform. It's all about community, and what you're doing here is impacting these children in such a large way. So thank you for that, and Mila, I'll let you carry on.
Thank you, Shellee Howard. I mean, everyone's dedication to this project has been absolutely amazing. So just
