How to Stay Consistent When Motivation Fades? | Siddharth Rajsekar | Episode 10

Siddharth Rajsekar breaks down why motivation dies and what actually keeps you going: commitment, not feelings. He maps the pattern (excitement fades, obstacles hit, you either quit or push through) and names two things that work: mindset work and a community that expects something from you.

There have been many moments in my life where I never committed to taking action and moving forward. And that really cost me progress, growth, satisfaction. In the previous video, I shared a lot about clarity. When you have clarity, it gives you the power, it gives you the conviction to move forward. It gives you the idea, gives you the plan when you have clarity. But to execute that plan requires commitment. In this video, I'm going to go deeper into the aspect of commitment and how I look at commitment when it comes to building a successful business, when it comes to leading a life of meaning and purpose and making a difference to others. And the topic that I teach, which is building vibrant communities. So let's start with self commitment. Why does it happen that even though we want to do something, we don't commit to it? Where does that come from? What are the fears that stop us? So if you look at life, it happens in this sequence. We get excited to start things. It's very exciting to start something new. You may be watching this video or you may be attending a webinar and say, yes, let's get on this journey. And then what happens is the next step after that is once the excitement of starting is there, then you are put into work, you start learning. And there is a kind of excitement even in the learning process. And then once you get into implementation process, once you start taking action on whatever project that you start, the excitement slowly starts to come down because now you actually have to do some work. And the next thing that normally would happen is we face obstacles, something would come in our way, something would not work, Some person would have, say, cheated you, or you would have lost some money, or you made a bad decision. And I'll tell you, these moments are the universe's way of testing you whether you really want to do this or not. Even in our community, we have this thing called the hackathon we do every three months. In the beginning of the hackathon, everybody's excited, everybody's saying, yes, I'm committed, I'm going to do it. But at the end of the hackathon and the end of three months, only 20 to 30% of the people actually finish the hackathon. Now why is it that people who start in the beginning and say that they will do it, they did not finish it. Why? It's because of this third step of obstacles. So the first step is exciting to start. Second step is you go through the process of taking action. The third step is you face the obstacles. Now it is in this moment where you are at the crossroads when you have obstacles coming your way, you can take two paths. The first path is the easy path, which most people take. What do they do? They retreat. They think that this is too difficult for me, so let me try something that is easier. And then what they do is they go on that new path, which is they think it is an easier path. They get excited, they get to work, they face the next obstacle in that path and the pattern repeats. And this is what I call as a downward spiral. People go downwards and then they start to form conclusions around that, saying that this does not work. I am not meant for this. I am not good enough. I am not worthy. I am too old, I am too young. I am not a technical person. I don't have the skill sets, I don't have time, I don't have resources, I don't have the abilities. And all of these things start to program the subconscious. It starts to program our conscious mind. And this stops our commitment. We are not able to commit to anything because we don't want to face the same experience that we had previously because we have burnt our hands in the past, so we don't want to burn it again. Once bitten, twice shy. Now, this is the path that most of the people take. Now let's look at the other path. I'm talking about the people who push through it, the people who finish my hackathon. I'm talking about those people who start the journey with excitement. They get to work. They realize that it is not an easy thing. They face the obstacles. In fact, the universe tests them with different obstacles. Like they may fall sick or they may have some family emergency. They may have something else that is going on. Maybe there are some other things that keep coming their way. But in spite of those obstacles, they push through. They do whatever it takes. They commit. They're not doing it just for the sake of it. They're doing it because they committed to their world. They're not doing it because they're interested in doing it. They're doing it because they're committed to finishing. And when that happens, the next step opens. Because when they commit and they experience that win, the small win or the big win, let's say they finish up our hackathon and what happens is when they become a freedom finisher and I call out their names in our calls and they are on cloud nine, they're like, wow, I actually did it. I never thought I could do it, but I went through all the odds and I did it. And then that excites them on the Next stage of their journey. So now they have to go from Freedom finisher to the hall of Fame where they have to achieve a revenue result of 3 lakhs within a span of 6 to 9 months. And now the heat is on. And now when they come to the next leg of the journey, it's like exciting. It's again exciting. It's like embarking on a new journey now it's exciting to start, they have to get to work. It's different set of tasks they need to do and they're going to face the next set of obstacles. People will not buy, people don't come for the webinars, conversions are low, Ad account gets shut down. We have so many different obstacles that people face and even there there is a filtering that will happen. 80% of the people who embark on that journey, once they face obstacle, they retreat. They're like, man, this is so difficult. I never thought it would be like this. And then in that 20% they take the second path, the main path. They push through the obstacles because they committed to the journey and they experienced that win the hall of Fame. Getting that award from me on stage in the Freedom Business retreat and that reinforces them to embark on the next journey. Going from hall of fame to the 1 crore, same thing. Exciting to start, they need to get to work, new set of actions to take and they face next level of obstacles. And when I observe the pattern of all the people who have succeeded in our community and even if you look at beyond our community, people have been really successful in the world. It is their ability to overcome these obstacles that has made them who they are. And now I'm going to give you a secret. How do you overcome the obstacle when you're in that obstacle? Because on your own it's going to be difficult. There are two secrets. The first one is having a strong mindset and working on your personal development. Reading books, listening to audios, listening to the Strangest Secret in the World by Earl Nightingale, listening to your own affirmations. Because when the moment happens, that is the tipping point, right? How are you going to deal with the situation at the point where the situation is like you got to make a decision. Are you going to continue or are you going to quit? What is your mind going to tell you? So how do you reprogram your mind to push through that obstacle every time it comes your way? So that's the first secret is personal development and to make it easy, the second secret is to surround yourself with people who are aligned with your vision and are willing to support you on your vision. And the second secret is community. And one of the reasons I built my community is to create that space for you and for everybody, so that when anyone is feeling low, feeling down, there's somebody else who will pep them up, will push them. And that's why in our hackathons now we put people into teams. We have facilitators and captains who hand hold them. We want everyone to pull each other up. And we have an amazing structure right now. So when people come into the lifestyle hub community, we have something called as a contributor. So when they are contributing to the, to the social network and they're going through all the courses, they get a badge called the contributor badge. From there they go to the captain badge. So once they become our diamond member in the community and they're going through the journey, they start to nurture small groups of people. And we have launched different kinds of city clubs where in respective cities they meet offline. Some of them may be from mixed city groups, so they meet online. And these captains support their different teams to provide them with the space so that they don't drop off this journey so they can commit to the journey. And from captain, we take them to counsellors. So counselors are those who nurture the captains and give them the different ideas. And counsellors are those who have achieved a higher result in the community so that they can get the commitment from the captains. And finally we have commanders in our community. Commanders are those who are already making more than 50, 60 lakhs in a quarter. Some of them are making more than a crore every quarter. And these commanders, they work with our quantum members and they also work with nurturing the counselors and the captains. I've created a beautiful structure to get commitment at every single level. So the science behind committing it is combination of both. Number one is your own mindset and how you're able to pull through and push through. And two is a system that you're able to create for yourself and a system that you can be a part of so that whenever you are feeling low and things are not working, you can demand your commitment on call so that you can step up your game. So it all boils down to discipline. You showing up every single day, every single week and you committing to what you say that you will do. Like I've been doing my weekly calls every single week at this point when I'm recording this video, over seven years I've been doing our weekly calls and I'm not given a break to those calls, if I'm traveling, we play an automated call, but the call keeps going on and on. Weekly calls to support our community members. At this point we have done more than 29 cycles of hackathons. Each hackathon goes for three months. We start this in 2020. And as of today we have done so many rounds of hackathons, we've published more than 800 plus videos on our YouTube channel, many thousands of videos on our Instagram handle. And along with that, I've done thousands of one to ones with my top students. Easily 2001 to ones over the last seven years. And this requires a very different level of commitment. And I'm going to tell you this, I'm just a normal person like you. I had these issues of commitment in the beginning. And what helped me come through this is the spiritual values. Committing to my myself first. Committing to my family, my spouse, my kids. Committing to my parents. Committing to my spiritual master. Committing to my spiritual values. So when it. So when commitment starts at those levels, it will start to reflect in your business also? Yes, there will be times that where you can't spend much time with your family. Like when I'm recording videos, when I'm in the building mode, I tell my family I need to focus on this. But once I'm done with that, I go back and I commit myself to my family. So commitment is at all levels because how you commit in one area will reflect in other areas. Are you committed to your spouse? It starts even with that important question. If you're not committed to your spouse and if you're not having that connection and commitment to a partner, don't expect your students to be committed to you. Don't expect your vendors to be committed with you. Because you are a reflection of your customers and your customers are a reflection of you. And if you are experiencing commitment issues, you can expect commitment issues from your students as well. And one of the things that I learned from one of my mentors is that if you do a one to one with 10 people in your community and if you observe that all 10 of them have the same problem, the problem is not with them. The problem is with you. And I'm always conscious of this. If I feel that there's something that is missing or if I see a pattern of issues and I'm able to see that it's there in multiple people, the problem is not with them, it's with me. I need to work on myself. So I go back into committing to my growth. When I come into my Growth, the community grows. And when you commit yourself to your students, when you commit yourself to your customers and their needs and their wins, that will unfold the next level of magic, of impact, of ripple effect, impact which you can't even measure. And that's what's happening in the Internet Lifestyle Hub right now. Even though we have more than 35,000 experts, not everybody is successful, not everybody commits to it. But those who have committed to this, if I have to just do a quick audit, whatever we did an audit, I want to share those results. Our top 30 students that I have personally been working with over the last few years collectively generate more than 30 crores a month right now. And we have collectively have an impact on more than 4 lakh students who are paid premium member students in our communities. And what to speak of social media, the impact that we have beyond the premium community, this is just the 30 people. Now imagine out of the 35,000 students, even if we take the top 20% of them, the collective impact that we have in the world and society in our coaching industry is massive. It's massive. I can't put my finger to it, I won't be able to measure it. But I just want to say that the vision of commitment that I made to myself in 2018 because of that commitment today, it is creating a ripple effect. And I just want to say there are many areas I need to work on, even right now. And I, I'm always a work in progress. You're always going to be work in progress. But one thing I tell my students is Internet Lifestyle Hub is a no guilt zone. I don't want anyone to live in guilt because they did not say that they would do something. I would, I want them to come back and bounce back. So if you're watching this, if you're in my community, even if you're outside and if you're thinking to yourself, why is it that I've not committed to myself for so many years? Why is it that I never actually took action and you're feeling low about it? I wanted to get out of that, rather feel, focus more on actually start doing the work. Don't blame, don't complain, don't get into the guilt zone. Because the guilt zone is the downward spiral. It pulls you down. I want you to be in the inspiration zone. I want you to be in the action zone. I want you to be a part of our community where you can actually move forward. And even if you're going to take some time to take action, that's fine. Slow and steady also can win the race. And everybody runs at different speeds. Some people are at rocket speed. Some people have even gone at rocket speed and crashed because of the wrong mentorship. And some of them have taken it slow and steady and built it brick by brick by brick over the years. And now they've built an empire. So commitment is the key to success. Commitment is a continuous evolutionary process. And commitment is what's going to take you your next level. In the next video, I'm going to be sharing with you on how you can raise your aspirations. Because all of us have a thermostat, like how an an air conditioner has a thermostat where you can increase and decrease the temperature. All of us have, like, a thermostat setting when it comes to money, when it comes to relationships, when it comes to growth. And in the next video, I'm going to give you some ideas on how you can raise that thermostat, raise your aspirations, so that you can commit to your next level of contribution in this world. I will see you in the next video.
