Stacey Lauren talks with Mike about finding your voice and building community around it. They discuss launching challenges for self-expression and how to turn your message into something that reaches and monetizes for others.
I do really believe 100% from every part of me that everyone has the capacity to be able to do the things that they want and not to be held back by the mental baggage that's in our head that we want to push through.
Welcome to the Do the Thing podcast. In each episode, we get down and personal with people who go after the things they want to make all their wildest dreams come true. Join us as we Unveil and dissect a formula for what it takes to do the thing. Here is your host, Stacey Lauren.
Hey, guys. Okay, Impromptu Live in action. So this is so exciting because I'm on this thing right now where it's like this heart-centered mission that I feel it so deep inside of me, what I'm here to do. And I just can't go fast enough. I'm just going so fast that That's where messy comes from. It's messy because we don't have time to do the perfect image or create the landing page or brush my hair. It's like, I just gotta go fast. And so I ended up coming up with this idea today where I'm right now doing a do the thing challenge in Modern Prairie, which is Alyssa Gilbert and Nicole Haas's company with Laura Carney. It's called Follow youw Heart. It's right after Find youd Voice. And so I'm seeing it in that community. And then Eileen Wilder is using it in her community. I'm actually running that challenge also, and it's called Disrupt the Market With youh Voice. But it's actually, I'm doing it in her group. I'm doing it as Find youd Voice. And so I already have five new dares that were created brand new just because I'm in her group and her group, they're all already monetizing their voice. And that's why new dares got created from them. And so anyway, I had this idea where I'm like, oh, maybe I could do a Disrupt the market with your voice for the collaboration group. It would be a free challenge because it's a beta. And then I'm like, okay, I'll see if 20 people want to join and then I'll do it because I don't have time to really promote right now because I have so many things going on. But then Mike emailed me, you guys. Mike emailed me. So I sent the email and I was like, Email me back if you're interested. And I had to have, I think 12 people said they were interested when I went live earlier. And I love you guys, but Mike, specifically, he did find your voice and the earth moved for all of us when he found his voice. And because I saw that, now I'm like, I want to do this challenge because Mike's going to do it. Mike said, I'm in. And this is how a lot of these challenges were created. It was by people. It's not because I'm trying to think of how to get people in my thing or how to promote people. I am drawn to people. that I have something help them and then I'm wanting to help them move through the comfort circles, right? And so it's specific people and that's why you don't need a huge audience. So anyway, hi, Mike.
Howdy. Yeah, when I got your email, I didn't even read the whole thing. I just saw where you talked about a movement and that just hit me that that's the right word. And so I just instantly said yes.
Yes, I feel like I have to show you something. Wait, why don't you tell people who you are first? And you were in Find youd Voice and for anyone that doesn't know you, let's do that first. And then I'll kind of show you my scientist's brain of... And you could see the movement with your own eyes and how easy it is. And it's going to blow your mind. I don't know if you've seen it yet, but I have a whole new set of comfort circles in the last couple of weeks.
So it's really exciting. Oh, wow, wow, wow, wow. yeah, I find your voice was incredible for me because it's supposed to do that video every day. And I kept putting it off, kept putting it off and putting it off. And then I did all of the videos in two days. And it just really was incredible. And then, but then I found myself sliding back into that hiding mode. And recently I was cleaning out some stuff and my partner had died about three years ago. And I found some of her stuff and she had these, all these little badges. that had Let Love Lead on them. And that was just like, that's me. That's who I am. It's all about love. And so I've been wearing my Let Love Lead, but I hadn't really put it out there. And so when you said the words movement in your email, it just struck me. And it's time for me to be a movement and to let love lead and to do it really freaking messy.
Yeah, yeah, it's so good. It's like, and I think what you're showing me too is it's so important to get loud. So I went live, I had this idea, I don't even remember where the idea came from, but I'm doing the challenge in Eileen's group. It is Find youe Voice. I haven't given the bonus dares yet, but what happens with every challenge is new stuff comes alive, right? And so editing the five new dares that have not been released yet, and I'm going to do it as bonus dares. in her group, but then I'm like, oh, I could actually test that on this group. And so then I went live, I think it was a few hours ago, and I was like, great, we have to get 20 people in order for me to run it. Because technically for Do the Thing Challenge to be successful, it really does need 20 people because the group momentum, but it's not like it has to be. And then when you email me, I'm like, I want alt mine. So then it's like, I almost don't care if it's 20 now because I feel like you're gonna Power the group.
Yeah.
So, yeah, let me show you this cuz I'm super excited. Okay, here we go. Okay, so these are the new comfort circles that had been released. I sound like a, what does that mean? What does that mean? I am the new comfort circles have been released. Yeah. So, okay, here we go. Ready? I'm gonna calm myself down. Okay, it starts. So, so you are this person right here. This is you. We're just gonna say, okay, this is you. It starts with the horse. So I discovered the horse when I was, we're creating a movie now. I don't know if you heard about this movie studio. That's a whole nother, okay, cool. So I'm doing a movie studio. I went to Saddles in Service. It's an organization in Descono in San Diego, and they're helping veterans combat PTSD and really suicide because a lot of them were actively suicidal before they came to their and because they meet them with the community and the horse, they don't need to talk yet. They wouldn't have come if they were getting therapy. They're just getting the horse. And so that's been my quest ever since I identified the horse is I'm like, great, well, what's everyone's version of the horse? And so for me, I actually used fitness as my horse where I, at the worst time in my life, instead of drinking and all the things that I could have done, I ended up just exercising like crazy. I hiked seven miles in the morning and then I rode 15 miles in the afternoon. And I was like, though I wish I could do that now. Maybe you know, it's fine. But anyway, I was so just driven to get my stuff out that I just kept exercising. So anyway, that was my horse. I've seen other people, they have a sailboat. Other people have, what else? Video games. And so anyway, do you have a version of your horse where you didn't have words yet and you were just kind of joining a group or a community or an event and you were sort of falling into something without having to talk yet.
Yeah, yeah, it's really interesting because I really resonate with the horse. I live way out in the country and I've got a couple of rescue horses and they're just so inspiring to me. Just so inspiring. And so the idea of the horse of really just putting me out there and being true to who I am is my horse. That's my horse.
And then once you kind of move through the horse, then you're starting to find your voice. Where you're learning how to express yourself and talk to people. And you actually did find your voice. So maybe we could talk about that for a minute. And it was cool because I remember you were stuck. Luckily, Alan posted one of our community members alumni said, Hey, whoever needs help and you saw it at the right time, you guys got on a Zoom and then he helped unstuck you, but maybe just share a little bit about you finding your voice and what that's been like.
Yeah, it's really about, it's just freeing. once I really began to find my voice and put it out there, it just, it gave me peace and pleasure and to just be me in the world. Doesn't make any sense?
It gives you pleasure to be you in the world.
Yes. I don't have to hide out anymore.
Wow. Yeah. And it's not exhausting. I think a lot of people get tired when, number one, I say get loud, let's stay here for a minute because I say get loud, but a lot of people think that means go on Instagram, go on LinkedIn, go in, go blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Like all this stuff, but we don't need to do all that. No. We don't. You could just get loud and be, I mean, I like getting loud in my group. I have a community, I go live, but then you also send the email after, right? Because you didn't see my live, you saw the email. And so you can't assume people have seen the stuff that you're sending. And then I also post it on my personal page, but I don't go, I mean, I'm not saying it's not good to post, it is good if you're able to do all that. then do it. But there's a lot of people that will exhaust themselves thinking they have to be everywhere. Now, I do think, though, if you can go live everywhere, that makes sense. You might see me do that sometime. Because to me, going live when you don't have to think, just like we just did right now, just so you guys know, I don't tell you, but literally email me, said, I'm in. And then I'm like, can we go.
Live right now and talk about it?
And so we didn't have to think or prep or whatever. We're just literally here.
Yeah, that's why I get energized by that. The preparing for things and where I got to get it just right and all that kind of stuff, it's what exhausts me. Just going out there and being me in the world in the moment is energizing.
Yeah. Oh, my gosh. I hope you guys are really, really getting that part. So here we go. So we're sharing our voice now, and then that's where. Tell me more about the sharing of your voice. What has that been like for you?
A lot of what I just said, sharing my voice is where I get energized and free and effective in the world. It's just, it really is that simple.
Did you start a podcast yet?
I haven't really pursued it. I kind of started one, but I haven't promoted it or anything. I just put myself out there occasionally.
Okay.
And no real organized way. And so that's what really hit me about your email. with the movement is that the movement is what's going to create all of that.
It is, yeah. And then what I'm going to show you too is it's really that, right? So in my mind, if I didn't say, Hey guys, I'm having this idea. I think I might want to do this challenge. Are you interested? Number one, we wouldn't be talking right now. Number two, if I didn't send the email after, this might have just died off because in my mind, I'm like, I don't have time to really promote this. I've got so many things going on in time. And if people are interested, then just, we'll see if 20 people join. But because you emailed me, you specifically, I remembered what Find youd Voice did and how we, you know, after we did the thing with Alan and, and came from Darcy and the whole thing, it was just a lot of connections. It was you specifically that is like, okay, I don't actually care, even if it's just, I'm working with you directly and we're doing this challenge. To me, it makes sense. And so, yeah, it's like, that's where a movement starts though. People think a thousand people, but you just need to start with one person. And then it's like, I mean, I say a hundred founding members, but it starts with one because you are now inspiring me to do this challenge. Do you see how powerful that is?
Yep, yep. Exactly. Exactly.
Yeah. Okay, so let's see. We're gonna keep on going down the train. So we have.
Oh, and for sure, Alan and Dorci have to join us.
Oh, I know. We have to tell them.
Yeah.
Oh, let's tag them. Make sure you tag them. Go bug them.
I will.
I will.
Yeah.
And then monetize your voice. So that's like. So do you see it's just a Comfort Circle?
Yep.
And you did find your voice, so you can slam through those Comfort circles, so. Monetizing your voice is just a matter of there's so many different ways. I mean, right now, just so you know, I've solved the wealth experiment where I'm telling people, don't even do a program until you're making $10,000 a month. Just sell someone else's program. Or even I'm partnered with Capshow. They have a software as a service, so I am an affiliate for them. And I'm encouraging people. So I actually have an offer bank now where I'm like, just sell someone else's thing if you want to monetize. Unless you're going to be an and you want to get sponsors and all of that stuff. Or you could do the thing where it's like pay what you want or pay what you can. So then people, at least you're telling people you're taking payments. And I remember, because in the beginning when I started doing this, I wasn't doing it for money. And so by the time I actually started to have things that were paid, people were like, thank goodness I cannot wait to pay you. and so that's what I'm trying to help people see is people actually want to pay you when you're helping them. And so whether it's something that you're doing directly or it's someone else's program, and what I'm telling people too is I'm like, if you're selling someone else's program, you can support it so you don't have to just leave them alone. You're able to then activate yourself through the program. So anyway, I just want to share that's the easy part. On that now, and then we'll go to the next level. And then so you could see the part that you were really interested in. and then you're going to be really excited, I think. Okay, so the next one is create your movement. And so here's the thing. The horse, find your voice, share your voice, monetize your voice, create your movement. You're still doing all that in private. You don't have to ever outside in the world yet. You could still be in a private group and no one even outside needs to even know what you're doing. Now, if you guys are good with that, then it's fine. But sometimes it's good to build in private because you're getting to know yourself and what you even want to say before People can even judge you.
Yeah.
And it helps you tap into that heart centered mission even more because now you're not worried what people think because you could always kick them out of your group.
Yeah.
So, and that I have make a movie because I'm helping people make movies now. But the point of the movie is now you're confident, nothing bothers you. So now you get to be on the global stage. But here's the thing that's really cool is now because you now are creating a movement. Your people have to go through the same process. So they might have to start out as the horse. And so let's say you have a community or a group or whatever you're doing, it's like give people the space to be a lurker in the beginning and know that they might not feel comfortable to post or to turn their video camera on or whatever you're doing. They want to be in that more observer mode and give people the freedom to be able to do that and then allow them to find their voice and then share their voice. And depending on what kind of group it is, they could monetize and they can do it. But the point is, is it's like, do you see how it's this really cool kind of evolution? It's now we have a map for creating a movement. Yeah. Yeah.
I like it. I like it.
Yeah. Cool. All right, so Sunday we're gonna do this. Let's set the time now. So we'll do a kickoff for it. You were inspiring me to do this. So we could do it. What do you think? Four o'clock Pacific Standard Time. Is that good?
Or five o'clock better? Either one works for me.
Okay. I think I'll do, oh, let's do five. We'll do five. We'll do five o'clock. Okay.
Put on your calendar.
You're in, right? I'm in. All right. We're gonna do dares again. And then what are you excited about? Let's share a little bit about that. And let's get in the energy of this new challenge.
What would you most like to, get out of it. Yeah, it's just the courage, wisdom and action to just do it.
Yeah.
To let love lead.
Ooh. And what do you think's on the other end for you after you've disrupted the market with your voice, after you've created the movement? What does that look like now?
It looks like a world that works.
Hmm.
There's the old John Denver song. that he wrote about his friend Buckminster Fuller. And the key line of it is, what can one man do to change the world and make it work again? What one man can do is love.
Wow. Oh my gosh. Well, thank you so much for doing this with me. I know it's like, so fun. I'm so excited to, this is gonna be like a mini challenge, probably just five days. Let me think about it. Tell me what you need the most help with, with what you're working on right now. Is it a Facebook group? Is it a podcast? What could support you the most right now?
I think a Facebook group would be the next step for me, 'cause I'm most familiar with that. Okay, cool. Okay, great. And getting that launched would really make a difference. Okay, okay, perfect.
Okay. All right, Mike, thank you so much and thanks you guys. Right now I have no way for you to register other than, oh, I will, I'll create the event in Facebook. Feel free to invite people and then let Darcy and Alan know.
That'S right.
For sure.
They're getting invitations. They don't even get an invitation. They're.
They're. Gang is back again. All right, well, have a good day. Do the thing. And wait for community. Brain day.
And do it messy.
Do it messy. All right, bye, guys. You're awesome. Bye.
