Reflection with Stacey- Car Episode- Applying to TedX, Doing Things Outside Your Comfort Zone
29 Jun 2023 · 0 min
Stacey Lauren talks about turning her podcast into a business through paid challenges like a five-week "Start a Podcast" program. She's experimenting with intensives and memberships, finding that outcome-focused challenges work best, and thinking about how to grow the brand without losing what her community actually needs.
I do really believe 100% from every part of me that everyone has the capacity to be able to do the things that they want and not to be held back by the mental baggage that's in our head that we want to push through.
Welcome to the do the Thing podcast. In each episode, we get down and personal with people who go after the things they want to make all their wildest dreams come true. Join us as we unveil and dissect a formula for what it takes to do the thing. Here is your host, Stacy Lauren.
Hey, everyone. Welcome to the do the Thing podcast. This is your host, Stacy Lauren. So here we are. I mentioned a few weeks ago that I am ready to turn do the Thing into a business. Until now, it's been just me following my passion and doing what I love to do, which has been the podcast. And then through the podcast, I uncovered the do the Thing formula. I'm game and wanted to test the formula into the challenges that I've been doing with my community. And man, does it work. It's freaking awesome. So cool. When I use the pieces of the formula into the challenge, it creates a sense of community and connectedness and I get people to be able to reach the goals that they want through the space that I'm helping create. And it's just a really beautiful thing to witness. And so it's interesting because I finally was like, okay, I think I'm ready. I'm gonna create something that costs money. I just finished the Start a Podcast challenge. It was a five week challenge. So many people got such amazing growth out of it. I'm still reeling over just the success of the challenge because it's so tangible. You can see their actual podcasts. Whereas other challenges have been more intangible. This is literally a living proof example of what do the Thing can do for people by getting them over their fear of themselves. Pretty much perfection. Just getting over the things that stop people from being able to do the things they want. And so anyway, I was like, okay, so for anyone that wasn't able to start their podcast, I will do a one day podcast intensive for anyone that wasn't able to start their podcast, so that way I could give them more accountability to get it done. And this is because I kept getting messages of people saying, oh, I'm so sorry. I wish I was able to participate. I'm seeing the growth everyone's having in the podcast challenge. I wish I could have been a part of it. When are you going to offer this again? And so I was like, okay, let me just do a one day thing. I felt really comfortable with the idea of being able to do it in one day and help people start their podcast, because through the podcast challenge, I was able to get on live with people impromptu and help them get through the stuff that they needed to get through to get their voice out and to be able to help them fine tune their message. And so I announced it on the celebration call, which technically, everyone there had already started their podcast, so they didn't really need it. But then I sent an email about it afterwards. It was in my weekly email where I share my podcast episodes. And then I also sent a direct email out about it. And I've posted it in the group a few times and no one has signed up. And it's funny because at the same time this has been going on, I have a few other things going on. One is I decided to stop doing interviews for my podcast for the summer because I felt like everything was so podcast heavy that I was spending so much time talking about my podcast and so much time helping people with their podcasts. I just needed something new. And even though I love it and I'm going to come back to it, I decided this summer I won't be doing interviews. And I have so many interviews that are banked. So I don't think you guys will notice any difference in me not actually recording episodes, but it's going to free up my time to focus other things. And then also I noticed that so many people are sharing about me and they're tagging me and saying, oh, Stacy's the one that can help you start your podcast, and all of these things. And I started thinking, and this is at the same time or different times, I don't really know which one. But pretty much I'm like, I don't want to be known for the person that can help someone start their podcast. I mean, granted, I'm happy to help people, but I really want to be known for being the person that helps you do the thing that you want to do. And I'm remembering even when I did the Dating Challenge, I was sort of becoming known as a dating coach. And it was kind of similar with the podcast challenge as with the dating Challenge, because after my divorce, you know, I dated, I did dating apps, and I got tired of the dating apps and realized, there's gotta be a better way. So I got off the app. That's how I met my boyfriend. And it's just been this amazing time just getting to fall in love with someone, especially after having been married for 20 years and just kind of knowing what you want now when you meet someone later on in life after having been through a relationship that wasn't serving me in the right way. And so I got so excited to be able to help people have that same same opportunity. But I saw so many people stuck on dating apps that they weren't giving themselves the chance to meet someone new because of the energy they were burning on the app. And I noticed the same thing with the podcast challenge is because I love my podcast so much. It was my reset in life. That's how I found my voice. It's how I've gotten to meet new people. It's just so many things for me that I got so excited to help people start their podcast. And so with that, it makes me really excited about helping people do these things. Right? But then I can get stuck on the one thing. And as I'm also starting to plan the get fit challenge, I've got the bucket list challenge coming up, and also the do the thing, host your small party challenge, I'm getting even more excited about those because those are new. I get to retest the formula. I get to help people do these new things. And I'm just realizing that that do the Thing is bigger than these small things. I think the reason why I liked the podcast challenge is because I got to give someone this tangible thing that they could, in eight minutes, see that they could start a podcast, because I would help them create their podcast link that they could even share with their friends if they wanted. I showed them how easy it was to upload recordings from whatever device they were able to record from. And then the same thing with the dating challenge. I showed people that, yes, you can get off a dating app and you can meet people in a new way. And I think there was just something really empowering about that and me being able to help people do those things. But I'm realizing I want to do more than that. I don't want to get stuck just helping people with one thing. And I don't know what this means for do the Thing or for the business or for me or whatever, but I was thinking about this podcast intensive, the workshop that I mentioned in the beginning. And I could craft all these spots, special emails, and really come up with a better offer, get people even more excited about doing it. But there's something about it not getting the immediate attention, like what the first dating challenge did or what any of the other challenges have done, that makes me just kind of pause a little bit and wonder if maybe that isn't the right thing for me right now. And so it's kind of cool. I feel like I'm looking at this as an experiment more than I'm taking anything personally. So I think that just shows the kind of place that I'm in right now that I'm exploring these things a little bit more. And I'm not getting so stuck on what the story is behind it. I'm really kind of just having some curiosity around what it is that I want to do. And so anyway, I just thought I would share kind of where I'm at right now. I don't know what that means for anything other than I'm reflecting where I'm at right now and finding it interesting to see what the next plan is for do the Thing and which way I'm going to take it. Because I could take it in terms of the monetizing side of it. I could start. I've been thinking about doing these DARE cards. I was thinking this morning as I put on this. I like this oil that I get to use and it just makes me feel so good. I could take the day by storm when I use it. I'm like, that would be kind of cool. That helps people do the thing. Maybe I could do that oil. My boyfriend happens to own a skincare manufacturer, so that makes it easy to create the oil anyway. That's one round I could go with products or the other way. I could actually do more of the paid up charging challenges or I could do more paid programs or I could do a membership. I mean, there's just so many options and I guess it doesn't have to be or any of these things. It could be and. And I could do them all. But I think the big thing I want to do is make sure that it's coming from inside of me and not because someone's telling me that's what I should be doing. It's something that I actually think would be the best service to the people that are in the do the Thing community and really being able to give them the confidence that they can be able to go after anything that they want. And so anyway, that's kind of where I'm at. I'm excited to just share that with you. And as I reflect, I'm curious which way this will go. And for you guys listening, if you're not part of the do the Thing community yet, definitely join. Because we are just having so much fun in there doing so many great things with all the different challenges that we're doing to help you do the thing. I've got a singles community and then I also have the community that's for everybody, singles and non singles as well. And so I'll put the links to both of those in the show notes. And don't forget do the Thing. Don't wait for opportunity. Create it.
