SPG No Limit Docuseries Part 3 - "Pivot" As a Freelancer/Copywriter During The COVID-19 Pandemic

Stefan Georgi and Justin Goff discuss pivoting their copywriting business during COVID-19, moving Copy Accelerator to virtual events. Members earned more in September 2020 than March 2020 by focusing on simple funnel changes and helping each other through the shift.

I always love when I start to hear about people, right? You hear about someone here and you're like, oh, what's that? No, you don't really look into it. And then like a few days later, another friend of yours you really trust, they mention the same thing or the same person or the same product. Then three days later, someone else, and then a week later, someone else. And that's how I know, okay, whoa, something's happening. I gotta figure out what's going on.
You hear of certain people that are making moves in the shadows, people who are making money, making really killer stuff happen. And when you do, you're like, oh, I gotta follow this guy. I gotta look out for him. So I'm gonna let this guy introduce himself. He's a legend in his own right. And if you don't know him, you should follow him at him on Facebook, wherever you can find him, because he's a beast at what he does.
Was there a point, Stefan, when something.
Changed in you that you knew that.
You wanted to just give more and teach more? When I have stuff, like one of my companies has an amazing day and grosses more money than it normally does, I'm like, oh, that's cool. But when I help somebody to increase their income or new jobs and stuff, I just get fired up. Like, I just hit, like a home run in baseball or something. I'm like, I fist pump, I'm pumped, I go, I tell Laura all I want is to do more of it.
I'm in a really cool transition between.
Having way more work than I can handle and then transitioning to being an offer owner myself. So I had my first $500 day.
On my supplement offer yesterday.
This month I brought in like 6,500.
From copywriting, which is literally like my best month ever.
Just starting, like, five months ago and leaving my job and taking that risk.
I took a week off last week. I was at the beach for a week. It was really the first actual vacation, like, ever.
I know it's August 4th.
I've already got more on the books.
Than I did on July and June combined. So Manuel here is asking about people who can do media buying. He does a lot of, like, financial type stuff. He was asking who good media buyers are. I know that you've been, like, doing some client work and stuff on the media buying side. Let me take you towards Mike while we're talking, because I want to see if we can get Mike's opinion on this. I thought a you guys should just talk in general because maybe something where you can help out, but, B, maybe you kind of have some more insights that you can provide. It's always been very clear to me how important helping other people is to Stefan. We both become invigorated by the idea of showing people there's a better way, there's even an easier way, and there's a way cooler way if you want it. If you have a natural aptitude towards something and you don't have to be. I don't mean, like, you're a child Mozart or Beethoven, but, like, if you have, like, pretty much average, like, skills and you're willing to learn and listen and be coached and be taught and be trained and level up your mindset and everything else, there's literally no limit. Sam. So we're on our way to the airport, and we're gonna get on the jet. We're going to Austin over the next couple days. We've got a little bit of prep time for the copy accelerator event we've got coming up. And then Wednesday, Thursday, Friday is the event. It's a virtual event. I'm a little bit nervous, of course, because it's our first virtual event. And, like, is the production gonna run smoothly? Is it gonna be confusing? Are people gonna know where they're supposed to be? Because there's, like, you know, different chat rooms and things. So, you know, I think. I think it'll go really well. And if it, you know, if there's little bumps or something, then that's okay too. You know, stuff happens. And. But, yeah, I'm really excited.
At our last event. It was, like, the second day of the event when people kind of started realizing in the US this might turn into something.
At the time, you know, February, we, like. I talked about it COVID 19 as being something that was in the news that might happen, and I was a little. Maybe more alert to it than others because I'd been following the news a lot on it, going back to the topical, like, the two things, really, for the next year. It's like the election for sure. Trump, Bernie, all that, Every song. I'm just lying. We'll get better open rates every single time. And then, really, honestly, right now, going back to the coronavirus, it's like, I'd be just rocking that all the time.
I remember the night that I was sitting at home on a Thursday night. I'd just gotten home from the gym, and I was on Twitter, and I saw the NBA canceled their season. And I was like, holy shit. That's a bunch of billionaires who make A shitload of money if they're canceling an entire season. I was like, this is gonna be really, really bad. This is a big deal. This is no longer, like, something that's gonna go away. We actually had a lot of worry at the beginning because we're like, oh, my God, like, if all of our Mastermind members, all their businesses just, like, crater, like, our whole Mastermind is gonna crater. But really, honestly, the opposite has happened. Because so many more people were now working from home, and so many more people were online. The large majority of the people we work with were doing better than ever.
Welcome to Austin.
At the end of the day, there's so many Masterminds out there, but, like, our members are just winning on a crazy level. And for virtually every single one of them, they're in a way better place today in September of 2020, than they were in March of 2020. It makes me extremely proud and fired up because nobody's sitting around blaming Covid or the economy for anything. They're thriving and crushing it right now. And I love seeing that. I mean, I think one secret to pivoting is just being really open and unattached, not trying to control outcomes, being more interested in processes than outcomes. And it's the same thing with any professional sport. You know, it's like you put in the work, you practice, you do these things, and the results tend to follow. This is fun. I just want to do more of this already. I know I haven't done it yet.
But I'm like, ah.
Even with a live event, we can't control what happens with COVID and with the world and with all these things. But we do the actions we take to create a good outcome. And so the actions we took was, how do we plan for the best virtual event possible?
First and foremost, I want to say.
Thank you guys for being here. This is a technical rehearsal, meaning anything can happen. Hi, everyone.
Everybody hear us?
Can you hear us? Thumbs up if you can hear us. No, no, I don't think they can hear us.
Something we've never done before. You know, we've done live events. It's certainly a different animal trying to get this all figured out. But we've got people all over the world that are volunteering and pitching in in every way that they can. God, I couldn't be more grateful for them. We've got everything down to the minute planned out, and it's going to be really cool.
Love you. Bye. Bye. I love you. You always have to be prepared to pivot and know that's gonna happen and be very level about it. There aren't any crises in business. Like, there's just an ever evolving series of complexities and challenges that need to be solved. That's like the nature of business. So as soon as you realize that and you look at it from that perspective, you don't ever feel like, oh, God, there's a crisis we got, what are we gonna do? It's like, that's literally what being in business is. You solve problems. You're a professional problem solver. You, you're solving problems for your prospect, you're solving problems for your community, you're solving problems for yourself and your family. And if I think I'm a good business person, then I better be able to solve problems and better be able to adapt to problems that are gonna arise. I mean, there's always gonna be unexpected. So it's not what happens to you, it's how you respond to it. That's kind of the approach I take. We're so happy to be here with you, our valued copy accelerator members, and on this, the bonus day, the kickoff of our virtual event. What's up tomorrow? John raleigh, everybody. Michael McGovern, Tom Clason. Yeah, it flashes around, but just so you know, we can't actually see all of you, which is really nice. So even though this is weird and we're in like, the, you know, apocalypse or whatever, we are able to actually interact with you in that way, which I'm really happy about because we're so happy to have you here with us for this event.
Later today, very special guest, my coach, Brent Charlton, is going to be coming on and talking to all of us about kind of mental and emotional blocks that. That entrepreneurs have that hold them back in their business. He's gonna kinda teach us some stuff for about half hour and then do like, probably an hour and a half of hot seats. Once you get to a certain level, almost all the issues that come up in your business tend to be some type of emotional or mental block. And being able to get through that and being able to get on the other side of it, it really can change everything.
The tangible, concrete wins that our members get are just insane. Right? But I mean, the point is going back to Covid, go back to March 11th when, like, the economy is gonna shut down and when people are scared and like, all that. And then like, look at the environment that you're in, especially you guys as like, the full members. It's like, this is like a crazy. That's crazy. Those stories during A pandemic. And it's not just business owners and it's not just freelancers. It's both. It's employees. It's like, everybody. Right. This is a community where we all win together. And it's nuts. It is not normal. The good thing is the signs, though, were clear when the signs were displaying. Yeah, it's just literally you guys on the stage. So we think it might be some of the lighting maybe that's like blowing something out of focus. Okay, so we're gonna mess with that right now. John was already thinking about. Okay, cool.
Phil.
No. Anything that could have gone wrong did go wrong. Yeah. Let me make sure that Molly put the right slides up here. Actually, Malai, honestly, I feel like this is not the right slides if you want to get Malai. So I'm gonna keep talking for a second. There's gonna be a few technical glitches like this, but this is supposed to be day zero. State of the Union is the name of the presentation. Sorry about this. About the presentation again. There's gonna be some glitches like this, but it should be. The slide should be coming up soon, so you're just forced to hang out with us. There's some technical difficulties, some little glitches, things that we expected to happen.
So, of course, it's like a torrential downpour right now. And I think that had a lot of interference with our signal. So we need to go and look at some of these different parameters, get that dialed in. We knew that our members were gonna be pretty.
Understanding the community makes it so, so worthwhile and just so engaged. Being able to look and see people's faces on the screen and be able to interact with them. Looking at the chat, seeing how active and engaged our members are, that's been really incredible. And it's not the same as a live event, but it is a lot better than just a normal zoom call or something like that. There's a lot of immersiveness, interactiveness. The team has been doing a great job as well from the production side. We did these roundtables, which were really cool. Brent Charlton is not gonna be making it. We. Our whole group had been really excited for that, but he had a family emergency, and those things happen. So we're gonna pivot and be, you know, figure something out for this afternoon. We have ideas already, and, you know, you've gotta just be flexible and adaptable and all that, so. Overall, though, I'm really pretty. Pretty pleased with it. I mean, and again, it's just the people make it so the people are here. They're a part of it. They're being interactive, they're engaged. It makes me just feel engaged. And so I'm pretty excited to see how it continues to go. Sam, Last day. I know. How you feeling? Super fucking amped. I feel like we're gonna. We're gonna crush it, I feel like. So I'm amped for the speakers and the content. Like, I'm excited to learn from people.
Something that Justin said yesterday that a lot of people tie the amount of money they make to how much work they put into it instead of the result they make for the client. And that hit me because I know that I. If I, like, make a bunch of money and I don't put in, like, hard work for it, I feel kind of a little bit of guilt. So I don't know. That was just a good thing to notice for, like, a block I have in myself.
And just being around this group and being in this environment just kind of just put a lot of gas in my tank for really just having that fire back in me. So thank you very much to everybody.
But also just seeing, like, how really dumb simple stuff, like, change the checkout button, like, wow, that's really easy and simple. And like, how often do I go for, like, really, really hard things that require lots of resources, that are high risk versus, like, why don't you just try the super simple thing that can make, like, a huge impact on the funnel? Damn right. Just do that. Simple.
One thing that stuck with me from yesterday was just when for justice, Olaf Method, when he said. When he explained the whole congruent thing about how you kind of, like, you sell more of the same. Because initially, I think for me, and I think a lot of people, that didn't really make a lot of sense to me. It's like, oh, but they just bought it. Why would they want to buy it again? So that really, really cleared things up. And, yeah, there's just so much from yesterday, but for whatever reason that stuck with me the most, one thing you.
Guys are really generous with is, like, recognition and credit for people. Like, you guys are two of the best marketers in the world. And when you're giving a presentation, you're like, oh, and by the way, I want to mention, I learned this from. I learned this from Jay. I learned this from me. And it's like, you're always lifting up the people around you. And that, I think, is how you build a community of people who are all winners is like, giving recognition where it's due, and I'm going to try to take that as much as I can into my offers to, like, really show the people that buy from me that, you know, we care about them and we recognize them and we want to help celebrate their wins. So thank you.
We're going to wrap up.
Thanks again for, like we said, playing all out for the last two and a half days. Thanks again for showing up. Thanks again for being so supportive, and thanks for helping everyone around. Like we said, this really is a family, and having everyone help each other is what makes this group. Group so much different than every other group out there. So thank you guys, once again, and we'll see you guys tonight.
Thank you. I talk a lot to the. The transformational side with. With freelancers, and that's an important thing for me. But it's not just them. It's all these business owners. I mean, that's the thing, right? Like, all these business owners who have doubled their revenue or tripled their revenue and they're hiring more people. And, you know, they're. They're growing, they're achieving their dreams. They're. They're changing the world. Like, they're making an incredible impact on the world. So it's like, yeah, that amplification, that leverage, like we've talked about that, it starts with myself and with Justin, but then that impact is being multiplied by thousands of times over, and it's reaching God, like thousands of people just from our immediate kind of sphere. This is the epicenter. But the rings are. The ripples are going out, and they're impacting all of these people, and it's easily in the millions. And when I talk about wanting to reach a billion people, that's how I know I'm gonna be able to do it. Because we're already having such a great start, and it's only been like a year. A little bit of change where we've been this intentional and imagine what we can do. Give me another five years, 10 years. And it's like the amount of people whose lives we can change and impact is gonna be insane. It's a wrap. It's great. Great job, everybody. That was awesome. Sat.
