5 Things That Will HOLD YOU BACK In Life

Stephen Scoggins walks through five diagnostic questions to identify what's holding you back: whether your time and money are compounding, if you're making real impact, the quality of your relationships, whether stress outpaces performance, and your overall life quality. He then lays out five steps to fix it: define what you want and why, make a vision board, tell people your goals and find mentors, build daily routines that reinforce your vision, and actually believe it's possible.

Any roadmap for your life is better than none at all. But if you really want to catapult your life to the next level, you have to plan ahead. And in this video, I'm going to share my tips and help you create a five year plan. So stay tuned.
I can still remember the hot summer day when my first mentor, Steve Meyer, came to me and asked me to get down off the framing crew and hop into his Jeep Grand Cherokee, the white one with the big dent in the back. And as a result, he began to teach me all kinds of different parts of wisdom that I hadn't thought about. And, and to be honest, having the AC in the car was like super cool because it was hot. And then Steve began to break down that someone who is rich in every area of their life is always, and I do mean always, thinking five years ahead. And someone who is poor in every area of their life is always focused simply on today and yesterday. That's a pivotal moment, and that's when I began to understand that you have to have one foot in today and then one foot five years from now. That way you can bridge the gap between now and your future opportunities. To get us started, let's answer the five very important questions in order to create this five year plan. Question number one, how can I compound my time and money to get a greater return? You've got to answer this question so you can actually begin to see the deficiencies in how you're handling your money and your time. The second question you've got to answer is this. How am I making a greater impact on my family, community and professional impact? If you don't understand the impact that you're trying to play, you're never going to actually make the impact that you need to make to begin with. So you've got to answer that question. Question number three, how can I deepen my relationships and remove the harmful ones? We all have relationships that build us, and we've all got relationships that can destroy us. You've got to learn how to tell the difference between somebody who can help and someone who can hurt. Which takes us to question number four. How can I increase my overall performance while decreasing my overall stress? So much of life is you operating outside of your sweet spot. We've got to discover what that sweet spot is. So not only can you operate in your gift, but when you're doing it, you can also operate in your strength. And that brings us to question number five. In what way can I increase my overall quality of life? Most of us are Trading time for money or money for time. Most of us do not have a balanced approach in getting what we need out of both. The ultimate goal is to operate in your strength, create an impact, but also not serve either one of the two masters, but to operate in the sweet spot. So as you begin to look at this overall question, consider how you can raise both time and resource to give you more of a bandwidth in the middle to actually enjoy the quality of your life. Now, once you've answered those five questions, then you can actually go on to these next five steps. So. So consider these five steps after you've answered the questions only. Step one. Clearly summarize and define your desired outcome. Do your best to fully imagine every one of those things, using all five senses to clearly create an emotional anchor. An emotional anchor is something that you can actually sense. It's bigger than just a thought. It's bigger than just an action step. It's the action step. With the outcome in mind and how it makes you think feel right, you can describe to yourself the things that you will do, the places you will go, the people you will be with, the things that you will eat, the traveling that you may have. All of these different areas make up creating an overall outcome that is a true emotional anchor to help you move forward. Step number two. Invest time in creating an actual vision board. You have to get the images from your mind out in front of you where your eyes can see them on a regular basis. I used to use my mirror, I used to use my refrigerator as my posting tools. A vision board is going to have images I took the time to create, to cut them out of magazines, you might print them off the Internet. Whatever it takes to get these images out of your mind and in front of your eyes is going to be pivotal to creating the momentum that you need to carry things through. These things will help motivate you. As long as they're in front of you on a regular basis. Again, they're going to have pictures of what life will look like when you actually achieve these outcomes. Which takes us to step number three. Make your milestones known. Here's what I mean by that. Most of us set the milestones we want to make to achieve, but we don't tell anybody they exist. They stay in our head. They never make it on paper and they never make it to people that can actually help us achieve that. If you're going to have your five year plan, you've got to have both mentors and accountability partners. And to help you measure your milestones and keep you motivated to actually hit them. So make sure you have those people in place to make sure your milestones are known to them so they can hold you accountable. Now's the time to take a quick pause and invite you to take advantage of a free ebook I wrote called the Five Principles for a Personal Breakthrough. This lays out a very distinct plan to help you actually get the traction that you need. And if you want to take advantage of that, just click the link in the description below of the video. All right, back to our list. Step number four is to set up a routine to reinforce your overall actions and outcomes. You've got to do the same thing consistently day after day after day to build up actual momentum. Momentum carries you through any kind of misery you're going to have to face along the way because you will face adversity, you will pay a price and it will be sacrifice, but they will be worth it. So the trick is to let the routine carry you through the difficult stuff so you get the confidence, you get to moving forward and you can make a difference. And that takes us to one of my favorite steps, which is step five. And as my good friend Evan Carmichael would say, you have to believe, baby, you've got to believe that the outcomes are possible. You got to believe that you can develop the skills and the passions and the talents to get there. I know you can. And I know what it's going to be like to face this stuff. But it is possible for you to do it. Now it's up to you to take the step, believe in yourself, believe it's possible, and take the actions. If you do those five things, answer those five questions, take those five steps, and then your five year plan will become a reality. I'll see you in the next video.
