Stephen Scoggins of Custom Home Exteriors describes the Home for Good project, a partnership with Plygem and Habitat for Humanity that repairs aging homes so longtime residents can stay put. Small exterior fixes can extend a house's life 20 to 50 years, but most homeowners can't afford them. The partnership handles repairs while families focus on living.

I'm Steven Scoggins. I'm the founder and the owner and the creator of Custom Home Exteriors, AKA the CHE companies. So what we're doing today is we're actually taking the time to join the Home for Good project with plygym as well as Habitat for Humanity. It's a little different than some of the stuff Habitat's done in the past for all new construction in that there are many homes around the country. They're in more disrepair than anything else. And because of that, many people are actually almost ejected from the home that they've known for years. Not knowing that minor repairs a lot of times can buy you 20, 30, 50 years out of a house. And what Fly gym and Habitat for Humanity and all those guys have done with Home for good is they've taken a chance in actually helping people stay in their home by partnering with people like us in order to make sure that we can make the repairs. They need to give them that 20 or 30 years and give them the aesthetics that makes it home. The last thing you're really thinking about when you get home is, I need to go outside and I need to do this, that, or the other thing. And sometimes money's too tight to kind of make those repairs actually happen. Well, FlyGem solves that problem because now they can go focus on creating their life while we make the needed repairs. And we actually make life happen for them while they're trying to make life happen on their own. You know, you can be blessed all day long. You can have nice toys and you can do all kinds of things. You can travel the world, but nothing helps more than actually giving back and helping somebody have a little more of life than they had yesterday. You don't know what it's like to change life until you're hugging on somebody and they're crying on your shoulder because you just made home possible for them. Going years without a home myself, it's more than just shelter. When you have a quality home, guess what? You have more joy, you have more peace, you have more happiness. And really what home means is love, contentment, and peace. You know, that's what home means to me.
