How To CRUSH Limiting Beliefs

A short motivational lesson by Stephen Scoggins teaching how to identify and overcome limiting beliefs. He outlines a four-stage belief life cycle (existing, limiting, bridge, empowering) and a four-step practical process—identify the limiting belief; find-and-replace it with an empowering belief; take actions that reinforce the new belief; and repeat—claiming consistent practice (around 66 days) overwrites old beliefs and accelerates progress toward life mastery.
In this video, I'm going to show you how to crush your limiting beliefs and ignite your future. Let's jump in.

Nothing can be more frustrating than knowing what you need to do, but being fearful or apprehensive about taking action or necessary action. At the core of this problem is something we like to call a limiting belief. Now, limiting beliefs can come across in a lot of different directions. Now, some of these limiting beliefs might come across in a variety of capacities. Some are like, what if I do this and it doesn't work out? Where some others might be, what if this is successful and I can't actually handle it? Or what will I do? Do you know that most people who succeed, most of them tend to acknowledge that they have limiting beliefs and then follow a simple process to actually overcome that belief so they never have to face it again. I'm not saying that all limiting beliefs are super easy to conquer, but all are conquerable. Now, before we dive into the solution to overcoming your limiting belief, it's important to understand that these beliefs come in a life cycle with roughly four stages. So stage one is called an existing belief. These are the beliefs that govern the worldview and are shaped by your key influences, including nature versus nurture and a few other things. Stage two is what we call the limiting belief itself. These are the beliefs that are shaped and amplified by your insecurities and lies you believe about yourself or your limitations, and in some cases, the lies spoken over you by someone else who you thought was kind of near and dear. Many of these limiting beliefs are set into practice by the time you've actually hit 10 of all things. Stage three is something we like to refer to as a bridge belief. Bridge beliefs represent beliefs that are in the process of being converted from a limiting belief to an empowering belief, which is stage four. They use words like I can, I will, and I must. It always makes good sense to use something we refer to as the challenge thought process, which is nothing more than a simple process that allows you to take a negative thought and immediately challenge it and reposition it in your mind to a positive nature. For example, when I'm trying to apply the challenge thought, let's assume that I'm thinking to myself that I don't have any worth, or my worth has been challenged by something else. In other words, my insecurity is raising up inside of me. What I'm going to do is immediately in that moment, I'm going to take the time to challenge that thought with a positive thought or a positive spin. Meaning not only is my insecurities going lower, but I'm also increasing in my overall self worth to myself and other people. So the idea is to take that challenge thought and actually take the time to reposition it. Now, there may come a lot of different kinds of different ways in which a negative thought can pop in your mind, AKA a limiting belief. But if you'll take the time to identify when that happens and reposition it, you can actually challenge that thought to bring forth a more positive solution. All right, moving on to the final stage is the empowering belief. These are the beliefs that you choose to make and shape and verbalize, audibly validating the direction you choose. You are choosing to go with these beliefs. You're able to choose your positive belief and decide who you're going to become when that happens and occurs. Incredibly successful people refuse to put limitations on any kind of their real potential and on any kind of future. And when a limiting belief shows up in their lives, they use the following process to overcome it so they can keep moving forward. And let's face it, unstoppable means keep moving forward. Here's how to overcome a limiting belief with four simple steps. Step 1 Identify the limiting belief. Limiting beliefs often start with any one or a combination of, well, key phrases. For example, I can't, if I could only what if, if only, but what? Never, I'll never, I don't have. You can see how the sentence actually starts you off on the wrong path to making sure that limiting belief is not eradicated. When you take the time to actually identify, identify a limiting belief, such as I'm not smart enough and knock it in its face, you can finally get moving to actually make sure that that thing never happens again. All right. Step two, Find and replace. Microsoft Word, for example, has a tool called find and Replace. And when you use that tool, you can search any word or any phrase in the document, and then it brings it up and you replace it. Well, your brain does the exact same thing. It has the ability, when activated, to find a negative trait or thought, and the conscious mind can actually replace it with something else. Now that you've identified that limiting belief, we need to kick it square in the face. And the easiest way to do that is, is to actually take the time to find limited belief, replace it with a positive belief, which is the polar opposite. So when you go to think I'm not smart enough, you can always say no. I'm growing on a rapid pace and I'm learning very quickly. Take the time to recite these inverse beliefs, if you will, in the morning and in the evening. You are essentially feeding your brain a new program, overriding the old one, much like a computer. It's not enough to do this one time. You must do it over and over again until the empowering belief has overwritten the limiting belief. Once you do that, you can move on to step three. Step three, Put actions tied to the empowering belief into action. Once you've identified the limiting belief and begun to overwrite the limiting belief with an opposite empowering belief, find a tactical way to put the new belief into action. For example, if my limiting belief is I will never be a good speaker, then I would apply the empowering belief of I am developing into a great speaker into practice by starting to speak at a low level, at low level engagements, and in front of a room full of friends and family. That way I can begin to work on stretching myself to larger and larger audiences. In roughly 66 days or so, your limiting belief will be fully overwritten with an empowering belief. And you'll wonder why you ever doubted yourself in the first place, which is why you can get so far so fast. And step four is the easy one. Rinse, lather and repeat. At this point, it's so awesome that you've conquered that limiting belief and now it's time to choose a new one to start all over again. This is the easiest way and the most effective way of crushing your limiting beliefs and igniting your ultimate future. Hey, look, I get it. You may be thinking this is way too easy, and in some cases you're right. But it's the most effective way to make things easier for you. This simple process transformed every single area of my life.
