How To Design Your Ultimate Life Plan

A single-speaker YouTube presentation by Stephen Scoggins that teaches an eight-step process for creating an "ultimate life plan." The video motivates planning over passivity, then walks through: (1) take inventory of current life areas and feelings, (2) gain perspective (life events, personality, strengths/struggles), (3) acknowledge roadblocks (events, personality, knowledge, emotions), (4) create a vision and learn to dream, (5) set concrete outcomes (1-, 3-, 5-year finish states), (6) determine motivational milestones that build confidence, (7) establish daily routines and accountability, and (8) measure, adjust, and amplify successes. The overall tone is practical, motivational, and action-oriented.

When you fail to plan, you plan to fail. And in this video, I'm going to give you my eight step process for designing your ultimate life plan. So stay tuned.
Man, did I struggle with that for such a long time. Because I grew up in an environment where we were taught to settle with the status quo. Because we never had been truly taught how to break free. So in my early upbringing, we were always taught to borrow but never repay. We were taught to learn, but never apply. And everyone committed, but seldom actually followed through. Sound familiar? Of course it does. We've all been there. Which is why it's so vitally important that you actually have a plan for your life. What I refer to as the ultimate life plan. So here are the eight steps that I personally use on a daily basis to elevate my life on a regular basis. Because there are really only two ways to learn. One, by your mistakes or two, by the mistakes of others. And as you can imagine, one is a whole lot more painful than the last one. The first thing you've got to focus on is doing what we refer to as taking inventory. Where are you now? Because where are you now? Is a predictor of where we can actually take you, right? So consider the things that frustrate you now. What are the things that overwhelm you now? What are the things that excite you now and bring passion to your life? What are the types of things that are going right? What are the types of things that seem confusing or missing or somehow misaligned? Which areas of your life are you struggling with the most? What are your top two areas? Is it financial and relationships? Is it personal development and life impact? What is it? How is your overall mental and emotional health? What types of things keep you up at night? What causes you to stay in that analysis? Paralysis mode? What breaks your heart? What situations increase loneliness and isolation? As you begin to get answers in many of those questions, you are going to begin to actually see some of the deficiencies and also some of the areas that you can amplify, which is why it's so important. Which takes us to step number two. Step number two is just as important, which is to gain perspective. Here's what I mean. Understanding how you actually got there in all eight areas of life. What we refer to as the eight pillars of life. And if you've never heard that particular topic, I invite you to check out the eight pillars of life here on this channel. All right, moving on. Life events, how did you get here? What type of life events did you face? What types of Life choices have you made? What are the running themes and the meanings behind your life events? How about the key relationships that kind of shaped you? Do you understand? Who am I? That main question of life. How about your personality style? What are your motivating value systems? How is your overall emotional intelligence as part of your life today? What is your unique sphere of genius and your thinking wavelength? What is your drive and comfort zone made up of? What are your gifts? What are your strengths? What are your talents? And finally, what are your struggles, your blind spots, and some of your natural adversity that you tend to struggle with? Once we understand that, we're ready to go. Step three, which is acknowledging your regular roadblocks, what I like to refer to is what is holding you actually back? What's preventing you from moving forward? Think about these things. Events, okay? What types of events have happened that kind of bite you in the butt? What caused defensiveness or caused you to act out? What types of situation did that? Same thing with personality styles. For every strength and personality style, there's a struggle. What types of people? For every person that you interact with, there's a negative and there's a positive. How about some of the expectations that you're setting up on a regular basis? Okay, what types of knowledge or training are you missing? Again, this is where you have to identify these different roadblocks because they show up as blind spots and struggles. And finally, what are some of your emotional roadblocks? Okay? What are some of the emotions that kind of have you second guess yourself or second guess a relationship or second guess how you see the world? These are vital. All right, so now that we've taken the time to take inventory, gain perspective, recognize, and begin to look at removing some of those roadblocks, the next thing we got to do is number four, which is create a vision for your life. Yes. Create a vision for your life. You have to learn to dream again. So here's some questions that you need to answer in order to actually dream again. Where do I need and I want to go. Why do I need to get there? That's an important question. Make sure you don't skip that one. Why do you want the things that you want? All right, what's the long term impact? How will that transform everything in and around your life? What types of tools and people are needed? Like what types of mentors, accountability partners? What kind of personal responsibilities do you need? What are things that you can do right now to learn, grow and mature, to help bring this stuff to fruition? Okay. Because once we have learned to dream again and we have a nice sense of what that dream would be to live in this specific house or go to this specific place, or be with this specific person, or have a security or self confidence within yourself. We go to step five. Step five is what I like to refer to as setting proper outcomes, okay? And here's how I like to do it. I like to sell 12 month outcomes, 36 month outcomes and 60 month outcomes, all right? So that's one year, three year and five year outcomes. An outcome is a goal finished. An outcome is a goal finished. That you can actually say that is what it looks like to be completely finished, okay? So consider every single one of the eight pillars of life or eight areas of life that I mentioned before. And again, if you haven't seen that before, I invite you to check out the eight pillars of life video here on this channel. So here's the thing. We've got to figure out a way to take the dream, all right, the thing that you imagine in that vision and break it down, okay? Which is why we have to set outcomes. We have to determine what that looks like finished. One of the easiest ways for me to help you understand turning a vision into an outcome is actually with a trip to Hawaii that I made. Now that trip was the very first trip I ever made on a major airline flight back before I had any real level of success. I was in the growing phase, the digging phase, if you will, the, the grinding phase that so many of you guys are in. During that phase, I barely made a trip to a supplier that actually gave me a chance to go to Hawaii. Once you've taken the time to create a vision and you've gone through the process of imagination, which is a beautiful thing, one of the things that you have to do is begin to break these things down. Now you've got to break them down in three very specific ways, okay? One year outcomes, three year outcomes, and five year outcomes, right? It's important to know where you need to start and have some quick wins to build up confidence. In other words, it's very important that you understand what your short term vision is so you can grow it to your long term vision. And if you don't take the time to break it out into outcomes from one year to five year, then your one year and your three year goals may not equal your five year, okay? That's why it's so important to develop an outcome. Now an outcome is essentially a vision of a goal that's actually finished. I have this much money in the bank, I'm married to this person or this type of person, I'm making this level of impact. These areas will help us break down the action steps that we have to take by starting with the end and working backward to the beginning. That's how you take an outcome and turn it into something that you can actually use to build a future. Number six. Number six is this. Determine your motivational milestones. What does that mean? Not all milestones will actually motivate you to keep going. Here's the thing that you're going to struggle with. When you're trying to create a life you love, you are going to face adversity, you are going to face sacrifice. There is a tax to be paid, so why not understand it going into it and see that it's worth it. A motivational milestone is a area in the timeline that you can stop and see some successes so you can build on the successes so you can actually have the confidence you need to keep moving forward. If you have little successes, your confidence will build. On the other hand, if you create generic milestones that really have no relevance to where you're going. Like, you know, I have to go to the grocery store. That's not a milestone. A milestone is my financial life is improving because I got a part time gig, right? For the time being, I'm doing it for two years and I'm going to save up this amount of money by this specific date. That's a milestone because once you've done that, you've now proven to yourself that you're capable of saving money and not spending it all the time. Those are different areas that create a motivation to build your self confidence. Okay? So every milestone that you put in your plan has to generate confidence and motivation for the future. As a result, you'll break it down into micro objectives. You'll also begin to develop your strategic relationships, people that can come alongside of you to actually help you carry this vision to reality. Not to mention your mentorship needs or your educational needs, right? What types of things are you going to use as part of your plan to motivate you? Like podcast, books, YouTube seminars, even training like this right now. Whatever you use, it's got to motivate you to push past your limitations. Because where you think you are right now and what you think your limitations are, I am telling you, I am telling you, it's way past that. One of the best examples I can help you understand is this. The belief system that took me to $40,000 a year was not the same Belief system that took me $100,000 a year. The belief system that took me from $100,000 a year to a million dollars a year was not the same belief system. And then from a million to 30 million, 30 million to 50. You get the point, right? Your belief system shapes with your confidence, but only if you use motivational milestones. So make sure your milestones motivate you. Do not use someone else's motivations to motivate yourself. Use your motivations. Use those milestones to drive you and keep you moving forward. Now, number seven is just as important, and here it is. Put routines into place. Think about how can I consistently work towards my milestones? For example, I wake up every single morning at the same time, I do my prayer and meditation. I hit the gym. I'm listening to things to motivate my mind, my body, and my soul. I rotate through my content to make sure I cover all, all eight areas of my life on a regular basis. All right? These are things that I've discovered that must be done daily. Things that are done daily become destiny. So what must you do daily to bring your destiny to reality? What action will you have to take on a regular basis to reinforce your overall milestones? Right. You'll never achieve a milestone that you're not actually moving towards. So how will you measure your progress daily? Who has the authority to challenge you and give you grief when you're not holding yourself accountable? Who can you put in your life to help mentor you in such a way that actually keeps you moving forward? One of the best things about routines that you can use for yourself is it allows you to keep the promises that you make to yourself. A routine is a way to reinforce the very steps that you have to take on a regular basis. If you don't put the things into a routine, then inevitably what happens is, is you'll take action a few days and you'll stop for a few days, and you'll take action for a few days, and you'll stop for a few days. The next thing you know, you haven't gotten anywhere. Right? Once you create your milestones, you have to create a routine to reinforce the action steps that have to take place. Okay? As such, you're going to have to have accountability partners. So make sure you choose wisely. All right? Number eight. Measure and adjust. Measure and adjust. Amplify successes. How does this measure against my milestones? How does this measure against my routines? How does this measure against my action steps? Okay. Take those things into consideration. Look for the overall successes the things are doing well and the things that aren't doing well. Okay. As you begin to see the things that aren't doing well, that's when it's time to pivot. Every successful ultimate life plan requires flexibility. It requires you to look for things that you can amplify and new methods to overcome hurdles and roadblocks as they arise. They also identify the need to potentially change out or reinforce many of your accountability partners, especially as it relates to your core standards. Okay. As you look at measuring and adjusting your process, you'll begin to see things that you can use for your success, and also things that are impeding your success. And then you just make changes. Life Mastery. Ultimate life planning comes down to really one thing. Rinse, lather, and repeat. These eight steps, when followed on a regular basis, and when you actually focus on them with intensity, will always produce viable results. That's why we call it the ultimate life plan. Why? Because it works every single time. All you have to do is put in the work and that way you truly can go from stuck, which is making no progress, to to unstoppable, which is always making progress. Do this and you will win. See you in the next video. I hope you enjoy my eight steps for actually building the life that you love. Do me a favor.
