A short, first-person spoken segment by Stephen Scoggins about life journeys and personal development through adversity. Scoggins frames conflict as a kind of friction—an instrument that reveals weaknesses and becomes a step for growth—and links sorrow with the discovery of hope.
In life, we always have these amazing journeys. We have these things that become the steps. They become part of us, they develop us, they shape us. Sometimes it's our influences, it's our belief systems, our value systems. Conflict itself is unique because you think about conflict. All it is is really friction, right? It's the desires, it's the wants, it's the hopes, it's the dreams match with the adversity.
Conflict. Conflict is an incredible tool to help us grow. When it becomes part of you, it becomes a step. It helps you identify the loose areas, the areas that are not as strong, they're not as defined.
Much like sorrow, you'll never know hope without knowing sorrow.
What's your greatest test? What's your adversity or obstacle actually standing in your way? Did it hurt you or help you? For me, it was walking toward a four lane highway in Raleigh, North Carolina. I was cold, I was lost and I was incredibly discouraged. My hands were even freezing. They were numb to the touch. I watched my breath escape my mouth and I felt like I was bleeding on the inside. I looked over the rail at the interstate below. I was so desperately wanting to stop the hurting. I was ready to do the unthinkable. I was ready to take that empty step to make the pain go away. But as I slipped off my shoes, ready to take my life, I was surprised when a hush fell over me. You know, for years now, I felt like a complete failure to myself and to those around me. I was utterly humiliated and simply felt like I had no purpose. And I would probably still be there today if I hadn't discovered 10 simple principles that radically altered the course of my life and have had me unbelievably thriving ever since. It took me from virtual homelessness to the verge of committing suicide, to one day building a multi million dollar business where I not only learned how to build the business, but the greatest assets, the people. Now, I've dedicated my life to help others empower their mind, motivate their heart by teaching them these foundational principles and most importantly, how to apply them. I would be honored to be part of your next event and to partner with you in making real life change. So just click the link below to get a list of my available dates and I'll see you soon.
