The Biggest Difference Between Successful & Unsuccessful People

Stephen Scoggins contrasts two paths: traditional people start with their past and drift without a plan, while transformational people define an outcome, work backwards to build a strategy, and commit to daily routines. He moved from homelessness to success by visualizing where he wanted to be and building habits that matched that vision.
Hey guys, in this video, we're going to answer one of the biggest questions we get here at Journey Principles. And that is, what's the biggest difference between a successful person and an unsuccessful person? So in today's lesson, we're going to help you take yourself to the next level in any area of your life. So stay tuned.
Hey guys, it's Steven Scoggins again with the Journey Principles. And this channel is all about helping you go from stuck to unstoppable in any and every area of your life so you can actually have a life strategy that actually works. We believe that if you had the knowledge to win at your life, you would also have the courage to take those steps. And that's why we created this channel to give you the information and the tools you need to win.
Speaking of winning, have you ever wondered why some people seem to win at life almost effortlessly and others seem to just kind of struggle day after day? Well, I can't speak for you, but I can speak for myself and say that I used to be obsessed with that one concept. And I was at the point in my life where I needed food and shelter to survive. And I knew there had to be more than life than sleeping in a borrowed friend's car just to kind of get started. And now, 20 something years later, I own several companies employing hundreds of amazing team members, and finally feel like along the way I've discovered one linchpin concept that is the difference between failure and success. And here it is. You have to ask yourself, are you living your life the right way? And before you say no duh, Sherlock, or tune me out altogether, let me explain what I mean by this one concept and why it's so vital to your long term success. You see, along my journey, I discovered that there are really only two types of lifestyles that people can live. And the lifestyle you choose to live will determine whether or not you're wildly successful in life, or if you stay stuck and never really meet all the dreams that you've put in your heart. Those two types of lifestyles are a traditional lifestyle and a transformational lifestyle. The crazy thing is they both consist of the same four steps. The only difference is the order in which those steps are taken. And here are the four steps. Your outlook, outcomes, strategic planning, and the actions that you take. So let's take a moment and break down the traditional lifestyle first so we can kind of get a better picture of what that is and why it's important to you. You see, I stayed stuck in my life for far too long simply because I didn't know any better. And I bet you may have experienced being stuck in your own life at times. You see, I had a lifestyle totally operating backwards. Here's what I mean by that. You see, I used to base all my hopes, dreams and aspirations based on what yesterday delivered to me. This is known as your outlook. And it's the first step in the traditional lifestyle. You know you're starting with your outlook when you're consistently wake up thinking about every new day like it'll be like the day before it. Well, you don't want to do that. Why? Because it'll hold you back. The problem is when you use your outlook as the guide, it's always wrong because it's always rooted in the past and leaves no grace or hope for the future. And let's face it, with no hope for the future, there's no hope for the future. This leads me to my next step in the traditional lifestyle and that's the lack of a strategic plan. I found it almost impossible to create a plan because I couldn't articulate or decide on where I needed to go. My outlook was driving my overall belief systems of what was possible for me. And let's face it, who's going to create a plan they don't think they can actually use? Would you? Of course not. So I started looking every day with at the with a present outlook based on my past. And I had no plan. Which led me to the third step in the traditional lifestyle, which is the lack of daily quality actions or habits, if you will. So clearly if there's no plan, there can be no effect of daily actions that move us towards our goal. Which meant my whole life was on autopilot. I was sleepwalking through life completely on the whims of my habits. That's not healthy in the least. This entire traditional lifestyle kept me in constant frustration, feeling overly anxious and completely hopeless time after time after time. This takes me to the fourth and final step of the traditional lifestyle. And that is the outcome or the result. The problem is, when I was living a traditional lifestyle, my outcomes were seldom positive. In fact, some days they were downright toxic. I was surrounded by people who forgot how to aspire to be anything more than their current circumstances. And I was right there beside them, agreeing with them. Totally unhealthy because I was operating out of habit and not daily actions that were taking me anywhere because I had no plan. So I didn't have a plan. I didn't have great outcomes. Make sense. So what changed? How Did I kill this negative cycle and start winning? How can you start winning yourself? It's simple. Focus on the same thing I did. Living a transformational lifestyle. You can rearrange the same components or the same four steps of the traditional lifestyle to build a greater life. When you actually rearrange them and use them to create a transformational lifestyle, giving you a new and improved process to help you move forward. And here's how it works. Instead of starting with your outlook, transformational lifestyles start by using the desired outcome as a starting point of every new day. They don't let the previous day hinder the next day. And always focus on forward progress and forward momentum. You see, outcomes should be clearly defined and documented by using as many as all five senses to imagine your ideal end result. Outcomes trigger the imagination and focus on breaking down your goals and dreams into clearly defined and well painted picture. And that's what you need, a clearly defined, well painted picture to help you move forward. You see, I got serious about creating a new vision for my life, that I actually started cutting out photos to live the life that I wanted and post them all over my refrigerator, my bathroom mirror, to make sure I never lost sight of where I wanted to go. And once I got clear, the next step was to actually get serious, right? So get clear, get serious and get going. I got serious by using the next step in the transformational lifestyle, which is strategic planning. You see, when you clearly know where you want to end up, you can begin to trace the steps it will take to get you there by working backwards. Doing so will allow you to create a formalized strategic plan to make that desired outcome a reality. The process of creating that plan is nothing more than laying out the most important steps you need to take, working backwards from your desired outcome all the way to where you are today. Even the most basic of plans can actually be incredibly successful and useful. Once you know the steps that you need to take, then you simply move to the next step in the transformational lifestyle, which is taking action through a course of daily routines. That builds momentum, it builds progress. And by taking consistent steps on your daily plan, you start to win. Every step you take brings you closer to your dream, or at least one step closer. It would also be a good idea to create routines for yourself in order to keep yourself taking those actions consistently. If you aren't consistent enough, your plan will never actually come to fruition. And let's face it, you've got dreams. We need to make them a reality. So the final step is this process is Taking that daily action will actually give you a new outlook. And finally, as you take daily action steps, you will begin to form a new outlook. Only this time it will be based on hope, confidence and passion. Because it's based in the results you are getting now instead of the past ones you've always known. The greatest confidence builder you may ever know is the high quality results you actually begin to achieve within yourself. As you implement a transformational lifestyle. You see, when you start to earn more, you believe you can earn more. When you start to be more successful in your relationships, you'll attract more successful relationship. And the list goes on and on and on. Now we're almost out of time today, but remember, a traditional lifestyle will never lead you toward your dreams. But a transformational lifestyle absolutely will if you simply submit to the process. This one concept radically transformed my life and now I want it to do the same for you because it's done it for all of our students and a lot of people that are partnered with the Journey principals. Now's not the time to leave your best effort on the field. Now's the time to go out and give it everything you've got so you too can show others it's possible.
