The Journey Principles | Light and Darkness

Stephen Scoggins argues darkness is the absence of light and offers three responses: ingest light through Scripture and learning, change influences by replacing people and habits that reinforce darkness, and take action toward your goals. He frames the Word as the primary source of light.

Hey, everybody, it's Steven again. I hope you guys are doing well. We're actually here in this beautiful city called Toronto. We got invited here by some friends and family who are also in the. In the business of changing minds and motivating hearts. Today I want to talk about light and darkness. I want to talk about the contrast between the two. Picture in your mind, if you will, just a moment of a dark room with a door slightly cracked, with the light kind of coming in the door. That's darkness. And if you're inside of the darkness and you only see a glimmer of light, the only way to actually get more light, more focus, more perception, more understanding, more realization, is to actually open that door wider and go towards the light. We've talked before about what darkness really is and how darkness is actually the absence of light. And the quickest way to actually make sure that we actually increase the light within us is to actually read light, talk about light, be part of light. So if we start and we look at those different facets all together, we can see that one, we have to read light. The Scriptures are full of light, full of life. God said he would be a lamp unto thy feet and to a light unto thy path. And he was absolutely correct in that His Word gives us a strong desire to grow. His Word gives us a strong desire to know. And His Word also gives us a strong desire to go. When you understand what light really is and how the representation of His Word is actually light, you actually live a life. You live a life of joy and mercy and grace. You can give yourself to other people in such a way as not to be taken for granted, but also not to be taken back and sat on your heels. Jesus himself spoke light. He made it easy to understand by using common everyday things to make sure that he could actually share His Word. Everything from a mustard seed to a rock, to a pebble, to fish to bread. The quickest way to learn and identify light is to be able to take a word image and actually partner it to a piece of knowledge. And when you do that, you actually get that merriment of actual knowledge and growth. Light is the way. So no matter what you're facing, no matter how dark the struggle seems to be at this point in time, just know. Know that light is the way you overcome darkness. By ingesting more light, by surrounding yourself with more light, by becoming more light. Light is found in the Word of God. The second thing we need to do very quickly is actually make sure we have changed our influences. Who is it around you, in and around your life. Who is it that's part of you that either speaks life or speaks darkness into your life? If you had a childhood hurt, those same people are part of your life right now. Maybe it's time to get outside the box a little bit and go find some new relationships. Develop your understanding, Develop your awareness. Learn that your subconscious mind leads your conscious mind until you understand that your conscious mind can tame your subconscious mind. Now that we've identified how to ingest light, we identified what our awareness is, what our influences are, what kind of music we listen to, videos we watch, books we read. All of those things are influences in our mind and empowers our heart in a given direction. It doesn't matter if it's to the left, to the right, or to the center. It's still part of a given direction based on the course of information you're actually learning from. So if we understand that to be true, then yes, acknowledging the fact that we need light by reading light, being part of light by our surroundings, our awareness, our influences of people in and around us. And thirdly, we need to take action. We need to take action. Understand that taking action is the single choice that redefines a new outcome. It redefines who you're supposed to be, where you're heading. It takes that goal or that ambition that's been in your heart since you were a child and makes it possible. It makes it possible through the determination of your spirit because you are now seeking light. The absence of light is considered darkness. Therefore, if we increase the prosperity of light, the darkness will decrease. I'm Stephen Scoggins, encourage you to heal, grow and go, and we'll see you on the next journey. Principles.
