You Can Achieve Limitless Success - Here's How

You Can Achieve Limitless Success — a YouTube interview hosted by Stephen Scoggins with guest Ian Bowen. Bowen recounts a 2009 medical crisis (diagnosed with neurosarcoidosis) that left him temporarily paralyzed from the chest down at age 32. He describes the decision point when doctors predicted limited mobility, and how he used a self-created resilience framework (RINSE: Remember, Imagine, Notice small wins, Shift, Expect) together with visualization, intensive physical therapy, and alternative practices (Reiki, Tai Chi) to recover mobility, become a personal trainer, buy a gym, and later become a coach. The conversation emphasizes mindset, energetic/heart–brain coherence, small-win tracking, and practical persistence; closing remarks list Bowen’s website (positivepersistence.com), social handles (Ian Bowen), and an August launch of a six-week “Resilience Revolution” coaching program.

I remember it like it was yesterday. They said, Mr. Bowen, we have to be very clear with you that this could paralyze you for the rest of your life. Now, being 32 years old and still pretty, I guess, naive, I was thinking that, okay, let's go in. Let's figure out what this thing is so you guys can fix me up and get me on that way. And it was in that moment that my life changed. And it wasn't for the worse. In that moment that I realized that I wasn't going to listen to the doctors. I made up my mind right then and there that I was not going to let someone else's perception of my capabilities become my reality. And if there is no other message that anybody gets from this conversation, I would love it to be that. To not let someone else's perception of your capabilities become your reality.
Guys, you're in for a major treat. I've got Ian Bowen now. Ian has got quite the story that I'm gonna let him talk to you about that today. Let's just say he is the coach's coach, but he didn't get there easy. He got there by going through his own journey, and it's inspirational one at that. It also requires a lot of persistence. Guys, please help me welcome the one and only Ian Bowen. Dude, what's going on, man?
Stephen, thank you so much for having me on the show, man. I really appreciate you, and I appreciate the opportunity just again, to be able to get out here and tell my story, hopefully impact some people and listeners and viewers.
I did. There's no doubt you're going to impact some lives. You know, it's funny when you. When normally when you go to do a show, you, like, set up and you're like, okay, well, I'm gonna. I'm putting together an intro and all this kind of stuff, and you're like, you know, trying to get all that dialed in. And then I was like, no, I don't want to do it that way. I just want to, like, introduce Ian as Ian and let Ian share his story. Because, you know, we met at Amberly Logos event. Gosh, it was a handful of months ago. There's the energetic frequency to you that I don't get to see a lot of. A lot of people. And then the more I dug into your. A little bit of your backstory, now I understand where the energetic frequency comes from. So without too much further ado, help us understand a little bit more about what makes Ian. Ian.
Sure. So, first and foremost, I am a. As you mentioned a coach. And what I like to coach on the most is resilience. And the reason for that is because I had to have that in my life, in my journey to get through really what life handed me as what some would see as a tragedy. But it was really a gift. It was really a gift. And that depends on, really, the lens that you look through and how you look at it. So it was 2009, and I won't bore everybody with all of the specific details. Let's just say I found myself in hospital bed, paralyzed from the chest down. I had been diagnosed with a very rare disease called neurosarcoidosis. And in order to diagnose it, they actually had to go in and do spinal cord surgery. And for most of us, we know that there isn't any spare real estate on a spinal cord.
No, not at all.
Every inch is used for everything. Right. So when they went in to do the diagnosis, they found that I had this lesion growing inside of my spinal cord that was. Caused a lot of different deficiencies. And they told me before the surgery that we need to do.
Some pretty invasive surgery to go in and find out what this lesion is growing inside your spinal cord. Because at that point, they said it was one of two things, was either a tumor, so it could have been cancer, or this very rare disease called neurosarcoidosis. Now, I was at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and for those of us who know anything about familial clinic, these are the experts of experts. Yeah, yeah, they know what was going on with my spinal cord. And they ran a battery of tests. I mean, everything you could think of, and everything came back inconclusive. So this was the last resort. And they were very clear with me when they sat down and they said that we have to do the surgery to figure out what this thing is. But to be very clear, and I remember it like it was Yesterday, they said, Mr. Bowen, we have to be very clear with you that this could paralyze you for the rest of your life. Now, being 32 years old and still pretty, I guess, naive, also naively optimistic. I'd been an athlete all my life, in shape all my life. I was thinking that, okay, let's go in, let's figure out what this thing is so you guys can fix me up and get me on that way. Yeah, let's do the surgery.
Yeah. Now, how did that shape up, out of curiosity? Because, you know, if I understand correctly, you. You are already a father. I think you were a Father of three at the time, like, so how did you. How. Father of two, so how did you. Like, I don't know about you, but, like, I would have a hard time kind of assessing the risk profile versus the opportunity profile with something that significant. I mean, what kind of methodology did you even. Did you even migrate through that piece with.
At that time, it was fix me so I can get better. Because I had my daughter who was 6, my son, who was 1, and I just wanted to get this thing fixed so I can get back to my life as I knew it.
Yeah.
But up to that point, I had some very strange tingling sensations all throughout my body. I was starting to lose my ability to ambulate. Getting out of a chair and starting to walk was starting to become a problem. Nerve pain. And I just wanted it to be done. And, you know, I'm at. I'm at the hospital where I've got these experts who in my mind are gonna take care of the problem. So let me get this thing fixed so I can go back to my everyday life and get back to my kids and my then wife. Yeah, let's go now. Up to that point, I had never broken a bone in my bodies. You know, I really didn't know what rehabilitation was going to be like, but that's how I kind of equated. It was like, okay, do the surgery. You're going to fix me. I'm going to heal up in a couple of weeks, and I'll be right back to normal. Yeah, well, that wasn't the case. So they did the surgery, and I woke up in my hospital room, and, you know, the nurse told me, good news. It's not cancer. It is the disease that we thought it was called neurosarcoidosis, which is treatable, not curable.
Bad news was at that point, chest down, I was gone, dead. No feeling, no movement, no. No nothing. But it wasn't at that point, though, Steven, that I realized the gravity of the situation. Because in my mind, I was like, okay, it's probably the drugs that they gave me to knock me out. It's probably the anesthesia.
Oh, so you're thinking, like, even in the moment, like, this is probably just a. This is temporary. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I would have been terrified. Even with temporary.
Well, here's. Here's the thing. So here's what I should have prefaced this with. About a week before, they had done a minor surgery because they thought they had found some abnormal nerve roots at the base of my spine, did a minor surgery, and I was temporarily paralyzed for about 12 to 16 hours, but I was able to regain the ability to walk and go home. It was about a week later when they called me back and they said that the results from that surgery came back inclusive as well. We have to do the big surgery, so we need you to come back up so we can get into that lesion that's growing in your spinal cord. So again, after the second surgery, when I woke up, I was thinking that this is probably going to wear off and I'll be okay. It wasn't until about three days later when I was in my recovery room where my care team came in and they were kind of asking me how I was feeling and describing to me what the prognosis is going to be moving forward. And a nurse came in with a push pin and she started doing her neurological testing. And she started poking my feet and my shins, easing my thighs, and was like, can you feel this? Can you feel this? Can you feel this? And every time she poked me, like, no.
Yeah.
And it was that time that my neurologist and my neurosurgeon were bedside with me talking about my future. That, Ian, we think you're going to be able to walk again, but you're most likely going to need a walker, a cane, or crutches. Wow. Now, up to this point, as I mentioned, I've been an athlete all my life. Yeah, I running about a year before, just doing some 5Ks and things like that. And this was in July of 2009, and I had our. Sorry, June of 2009, and I had a race coming up in August that I was training for. So again, my, I guess my naive optimism at that time, or maybe I just didn't really want to accept what they were telling me. I asked them, am I going to be able to run again? And they said no. And it was in that moment that my life changed. And it wasn't for the worse, as you may imagine. It was actually for the better. It was in that moment that I realized that I wasn't going to listen to the doctors. I made up my mind right then and there that I was not going to let someone else's perception of my capabilities become my reality.
Yeah.
And if there is no other message that anybody gets from, from this conversation, I would love it to be that. To not let someone else's perception of your capabilities become your reality. Yeah.
Well, dude, that's, I, I, it's hard to even imagine, like, so, you know, we've, we've talked offline you, you very pleasure of having me on your podcast. And you know, we share in the fact that we've been through some stuff, right? But at the same time, I can't imagine being someone who's as active as like I am, right? Just being super active, you know, getting out, getting outside, getting out, getting out of the water, getting out with people, socializing all this kind of stuff, like to not be able to functionally, like in a, in a moment in time, move like from, from a huge point of your body down. Like, I, you know, it's one thing to have a mental resilience, right? And it's one thing to say. So I just, I really wanted to kind of dig in there because, you know, medical professionals oftentimes, I think are very, they come at things that very logical. They, they forget about the divine, they forget about human will and human spirit. I know Dr. Joe Dispenza talks a lot about obviously how he, he was able to heal his own neck injury and these types of things with, from the inside out. And I feel like medicine and leadership is starting to kind of like, understand that.
The tricky part for me is, is if I even put myself in that mental position, if I just try to, if I just try to empathize with your story as it stands right in this very second.
I don't know that I could have jumped in mentally reset that quickly. I would have. And this is why, this is why I think this is so powerful. And this is why the, the, the story is so powerful, is because so many of us, right, give up in the moment without really looking for what our good friend Henry would say, as Henry Amara would say is, what's a negative bias? Like, it's the opposite, it's the, it's the, it's the, the opposite of the evidence. Like, the evidence says this, but yet I'm choosing to believe this, right? And then this becomes manifest. Whereas if you were to go down the, the doctor train writing this in this particular, it seems like it would have become a self confirming philosophy. Like, it would have become something, right? It would become that, that, you know, the element of, well, if the doctor says I can't do it, then I can't do it. Like, how did you. In that moment. And this is what, this is what blows my mind because I know it's super. I just, I know it's how you're wired. So it's, so it might be a little, you know, a little tricky to explain, but I don't. How did you in the moment decide Just decide that this isn't. This isn't my. This isn't my reality, that my reality is going to be X, and I'm going to put all my attention, my effort, my practices, my. My theology. Yes. The resilience. But how? Because it starts. Me. Everything starts with a decision. Right.
Absolutely.
And if I'm in your shoes, like, I. I don't know that I could have made that decision. Like, I've. I've had to make difficult decisions for myself and. And kind of come out the other side and. But I was never challenged with literal loss of physical sensation, any of my limbs. Right. That's. That's another level, if I'm. If I'm being honest, of an experiential component to then bypass with the mind and with the heart and with the soul.
Yeah.
How can you understand that?
Anybody who was put in that position can make the same decision as I did. Something that Henry o' Mara talks about is love yourself enough where you are, but also love yourself enough not to stay there. So for me, it was. Okay. Love myself enough to where I am. This is my situation. I need to accept it. Mm. But I don't need to wallow in it.
Yeah.
Love myself enough to move forward. So in that split second, it was the future that they're painting for me. Is that one going to accept.
Yeah.
That does not fit with my identity.
Yeah.
Right. Robin said that one of the most powerful forces in the universe is for us to be consistent with ourselves.
Yeah.
And that was consistent with the identity that I had for myself and my future.
Yeah.
So it almost. To me, it was literally a challenge.
Yeah.
It was almost a. It was almost a dig on my character and my person for them to tell me, you're not gonna walk again. You're not gonna run again. It was almost like I saying, do you know who you're talking to?
Yeah. Yeah.
As cocky as that might sound, that's like the defense mechanism that kicked in. Like, what do you.
Yeah.
No, that's not. That's not the future that's going to be for me. So there was that fight reflex that kicked in right away.
Yeah.
And that. And I mean, there's. That's a whole nother conversation where that came from.
Yeah.
And that into my past, that goes into my childhood, that goes into my relationship with my father, that goes into other situations that I've dealt with in my past. Yeah. That had. That equipped me for that moment.
Yeah.
Right there.
How did you apply it in real time, Prince?
That framework that I actually Created through this journey started right there. And the R in rent stands for remember. And that's all about remembering that you have been through difficult situations before, which you all have. So if you were to put yourself by situation in that. In that position, you can recall other times, it may have been a different season, it may have been a different situation, you've been different environment, but you've been in situations before where you've had to overcome adversity.
Yeah.
I think that for most of us, we don't remember that. When we are faced with something that seems like it's an immovable object, something that seems like it is a unbelievable hurdle that we have to get over, we forget that, hey, we. We've done this before. We have been able to fight back and win before. So remembering is key. And that's when that started for me, right then and there. Like, I needed to remember all the things that I've been through up to this point. I'm gonna get to.
Yeah.
The eye and rinse is imagined now, of course, being paralyzed in the hospital, I had plenty of time on my hands.
Yeah.
Using my imagination was key. So. So sitting there and actually envisioning using my imagination to what it was going to be like to walk again. What it was going to be like. Well, to feel the floor under my feet again. What it was going to be like to be able to run again and just envision. And then as Dr. Joe Dispenza talks about the emotions attached with that vision and making it real and starting to create those neural pathways. And I know you're a fan of neuroscience as well.
Yeah.
Starting to create those neural pathways of what is going to be like when I start to walk again, what it's going to be like when I start to run again. Not if.
Yeah. Yeah.
Having that imagination and imagining those things so vividly that it's like a picture that I could step into.
Yeah.
Was key for me.
Yeah. Yeah.
And then moving on into my. My journey. And I'm moving forward. After I got out of the hospital, luckily for me, I hooked up with an amazing physical therapist who I was with five days a week for moist on. And we obviously, through that time, we established a great rapport, great relationship.
Yeah. Yeah.
And even though I preach positive persistence, there are days where you just don't.
Feel like, well, that's my thing is like. Yeah. I mean, that's where I struggle. Right. So, you know. You know, and it's. It's crazy in doing this work, just like you've been doing A lot of this work yourself and now teaching this work to so many amazing human beings. You know, it's a, it's a.
The struggle for me seems to come when I don't want to do it or when I don't see immediate evidence of it being done.
Yes, right.
That's the, that's the part that I feel like, you know, it's almost like there's a six month lag time. Like you, you start putting in the practice and the imagining and, and you know, anchoring an emotion to it and you're reliving it and replaying it and feeling it. And like you, you feel like it's a great meditation, almost like a great meditate. Like you feel great and then you come back to your now reality. Right? So, and that's. I, I really want to pull that apart because I feel like if anywhere is going to trip us up. Right? So I, I feel like now. And I, I say that. I think I take that back. I've struggled with every area you've already mentioned, like, re, like going back and saying, okay, remember when you did this? Remember when you were homeless and you came through and now you're this. And like, you know, all this kind of stuff. I just, you know, you know, I just took down a piece of real estate and part of me is like, ah, this is one of the biggest things I've ever done. What do I do? Like, I'm terrified. Like, I'm really terrified of this. I'm not. Terrified is a strong word, but it's, you know, I'm, I don't have to remember. Okay, well, I have done this. Right. But where the tension comes from me is in the imagination process to the activation process, like when it actually becomes real. Like that's, that's. So if we were to, if we were going to workshop something right now. So in fact, let's do this because I think you're an amazing coach. I think any one of our listeners should hire you off the bat, work with you hands down, any day of the week. Your soul is just vibrating at a whole different level, dude.
But one of the things that, that I'm like, all right, so again, I took down a nice property. I got plans for the property. I've remembered when God has brought me through and the divine has brought me through and brought me to different circumstances. And I felt energetically aligned when I did this. Right. I began the imagination process of what this property could be before I ever knew what the property was going to be. Right. And then I walk into the property, right? Not once, not twice, not, I think was the fifth time before I ever made an offer on the property. Right. Every single time I felt aligned, it felt beautiful. So visual. Okay, cool. At the same time, I'm still now going from, oh, crap, you signed the papers, dude, you're. You now have to take care of this property. Yeah, right. And I'm, I'm going to be. I'm just being real with you. I think, I think, you know, I'll share with you offline that, you know, I was trying to get moving, get settled and stuff like that so we can have an amazing podcast because I love you as a brother and I think, I think you're amazing. And meanwhile, I'm like, I'm like, well, my mic's not set up and I. And I don't have this and I don't have that and I don't have these pieces and all this kind of stuff. And I'm like, oh my God, I'm gonna let my brother down, right? I don't let my brother down. You know what I'm saying? But then at the same time, now I'm hearing you like, this is how divine I call divinity works. Right now I'm sitting down with you having a conversation and you're actually reminding me in the moment, right? In this moment, in this moment in time. It's like, no, dude, all right, you remember where the active. You remember when you imagined it here. You've now gone through the journey. It took about six months for that journey to happen. So now, now what I'm hearing you say is, okay, well, let's go ahead and take it to the next level. Let's now imagine you doing the retreats here. Let's now imagine bringing in guest theater, guest thought leaders. Let's now imagine this place being happy and abundant and full and, and all this kind of stuff. But part of me still, like, bro, it's still scary sometimes, man. Like, it's still, like, it's still a lot. So maybe workshop with me a little.
Bit so that, that dovetails right into the next letter in the framework. Imran, that is notice your small wins. So when you start to think about like that 6 month lag you were talking about, where you're putting the work, seeing the immediate result. It's about looking back, seeing, like, what are the small wins that I've had along the way. Yeah, because I was in that therapy with my physical therapist. There were those days where I would come in and I would be thinking, I'M not making enough progress or I'm not making any progress or there would be those days. Right. I would have those made.
You go backwards.
Yes. Why me? This happened. Right. And she would, she would let me sit in my feelings for a second.
Okay, so it's okay to sit in your feelings.
Absolutely. Absolutely. And then she would look me in the face and she would say, are you done?
Yeah.
Wonderful woman. Right. And I love her. And she was, gosh, she was probably maybe 5 foot tall, 100 pounds soaking wet, but she didn't love me. She didn't let me sidestep. She didn't let me half step. It was like sitting. Feel them.
Yeah.
They good. Now let's get back to work.
Yeah.
She would also tell me like, look, I understand the way you're feeling right now, but look at all the progress you've made. Look at how far you have come. You have gone being paralyzed in a bed from the chest down with the doctors telling you that you're not going to walk without some sort of durable medical equipment and that you're never going to. Here we are making this progress from wheelchair to walker to two canes to one cane. Look at the progress you've made. And when you can do, you can look back and notice those small wins and you start to stack them one on top of the other. Of course they grow into big wins.
When you go to notice them, do you. Do you go back and. And kind of re. Emotionalize, like retie the emotion to it?
I think that is, that's part and parcel of it. But yes, absolutely. Because what you're doing is you are. You are actually viewing your progress as kind of like an outside observer, if you will, looking at the progress that you're making in the past up until this moment. And when you're able to look at those small wins and see that, you know, I am actually moving the needle. But you also have to have patience. Right. Because.
My one, my one Achilles heel. Well, I mean, yeah, yeah.
But there you have to look at that with patience and understand that there are those small moves that you're making that may not yield in a return immediately, but they will in the long run.
Yeah.
As you again stack them one on top of the other, eventually they'll get you that. That return that you're looking for. They'll get you that gold seeking. They'll get you that reward that you're after.
Yeah.
And that helps you move into that next phase, which is shift, which is the essence. And that is shifting your mindset. And focusing on the things that you can do and not the things that you can't do, not the things that are going wrong, but the things that are going right.
Yeah.
Which is.
But it's so easy for us to get on, get to go down the rabbit hole of what's going wrong.
Absolutely it is.
Yeah.
Absolutely it is. But. And when we start to do that, we need to pause and ask ourselves, what's the benefit? What is the benefit of me focusing on this negativity?
Yeah.
What is the benefit of me doubting my myself? Benefit of me wondering, did I make the right decision in buying this home? Am I going to be able to put on any type of retreat? What's the benefit of that? You've moved, you are in the house. Like you've done the thing now. It's, yeah, yeah, let's start making. Let's start making the decisions to get my dream, my idea to come true and focusing on the thing. What can I do to move the needle forward? For me, again, it was. I would go to physical therapy. She would give me homework, so I was working therapy for an hour. Then I would go home and I would do an hour of homework that she would give me, and then I would do whatever else I could to help me improve my situation. Help me learn how to get up off the ground again. Help me learn how to walk again. Help me learn how to be able to move around my kitchen and make myself a sandwich. Yeah, yeah, know it was. What else can I do to help me get to where I want to be? Because there is no rock that is going to be left unturned to get where I want to go now.
What did you learn about yourself in. In this part of the journey that, you know, and I'm. I'm skipping ahead a little bit and we'll definitely come back to finish off the. I. I'm always so intrigued by how. What makes people tick, especially ones that have done the unimaginable or the miraculous in many respects, which is your journey, is that for a lot of folks that may have lost, you know, the use of one leg, just, you know, just kind of like not, not, you know, not being mobile again or, you know, have a broken heart or any number of things that, like, can set us back.
Right.
How did what you learned change you in such a way that made you want to go and create a franchise of, you know, entrepreneurial gyms and things of that nature? And why gyms? Why, you know, when. When there's so much work being done from the inside out. I also tap into the outside in.
Well, at the time when I was making my recovery, I became a personal trainer.
Okay.
I was going to the gym on my lunch break. Luckily for me, I worked for an amazing company, family owned, and they allowed me a lot of lateral, I'll say, leeway in terms of my recovery, my lunch break, I would go to the local gym and I would work out. I would do what I could. You know, it went from me wheeling into my wheelchair and doing upper body stuff or.
Okay.
With my walker and doing what I could. Right.
Yeah.
And one day the. The universe tapped me on the shoulder and said, you should be a personal trainer. So, long story short, I became a personal trainer.
Okay.
Took the leap, left my job, which wasn't the job that I had before the surgery. Because of the surgery, there's a lot.
Again, I'm sure, I'm sure all hell broke loose. Really? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So I took the leap and I became a personal trainer because I felt like what I had gone through, I could help other people do the same. And physical fitness was always a passion of mine. So became a personal trainer. Six months later, again, the universe tapped me on the shoulder. I had an opportunity to buy my gym. Buy a gym. So I bought a gym, jumped in to be an entrepreneur, how to run a business.
Did you, have you ever acquired a company before?
No, I had no idea what I was doing. I just happened that the person I was working for was looking to sell their gym. I was like, yeah, this is my dream. Like, my dream was to have my gym in five years, but it was like in six months. Okay, let's go. So doing that, becoming a personal trainer, I started to help people make transformations with their body, using everything that I had used for myself. Yeah. But rarely telling them my story because I didn't want that to be the reason that they came to work with me, if that makes sense.
Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
I wanted them to come in under their own volition and then me be able to work with them without them having any type of idea of my story and being able to help them, their transformation. So, you know, being in the fitness industry for 10, 12 years, I started to realize that it's not the push ups, the burpees, the sit ups and the nutrition that I'm really passionate about. It was, I was passionate about helping people making the shift up here, achieving things that they didn't think that were possible and having that feeling of, let's say, for instance, when four months after working with Somebody, they're able to do high knees for 30 seconds when they came in, they could barely get off the floor.
Yeah.
And having them realize.
What they can accomplish through fitness and having them walk out the door that day with their chest up a little bit higher and feeling a little bit more self confidence and having that permeate into the rest of their life and whoever else contact that day, the light bulb went off like, this is my passion, this is my calling. People come back from setbacks, help people realize their true potential and that they can achieve things that they thought once were unachievable.
Yeah, yeah. I was remembering, you know, I remember you saying something about the doctor selling, you know, obviously telling you that you would never walk again. And, and I also remember part of my journey was my father who I, you know, who loved me, who thought he was trying to do what's right by me. Coming to me say, sky, don't get ahead to get by, you know, and it's, it's, it's interesting to me when I talk to people all over the world, amazing human beings like yourself, we're, we're at events and we're meeting people for the first time. It's amazing. The people who I refer to as having a bit of mix, as an expansive personality, I also have expansive mindsets. So I'll give you an example. So the woman that I acquired the home from, she is 80 years old and literally she's Dora the Explorer. She just got back from Norway. And so we're having. So I know this is going to sound strange, but she invite, after, after the closing, she invited myself and her, her agent that helped her and myself and my girlfriend to come out and have dinner with her. And it was funny because my girlfriend and I both have expansive mindsets. I know you have an expansive mindset. I know your spouse has an expansive mindset. I mean we hang out with people with expansive mindsets. And what's really interesting to me is those who are actually either pursuing their dream in a real meaningful way or have achieved whatever that dream is to date all have that one thing in common. And you know, it's, it's interesting that the work you did on the inside transferred to doing work for people on the outside, which actually helped them go back on the inside to then bring it to the outside, you know. So I just, I just, I just love the circle of, I call it the internal circle of life in the grand scheme of things. Because I, I'm so enthralled with people understanding what makes people really, really believe they can. And I feel like light bearers of sorts. People like you, myself, we're. We're out here trying to say no, it's in between your ears. If you can get in what's in between your ears to fire inside your heart, you can literally do anything.
Yes.
Literally do anything.
Yeah.
Right. Yeah. So anyway.
That just kind of vibed with my soul as you were kind of explaining that.
You're speaking my language, Stephen, because that you are so right in the. What I like to call the golden zone. Here and here.
And heart. When you have your mindset and your heart set in alignment, you are unstoppable. And that is where your belief comes from. And I think that is where everybody struggles is having that self belief that they can do it.
Yeah.
They can achieve greatness. And sometimes they. They need to be reminded. Sometimes they need a little coaching. Sometimes they just. A little love, a little. Little light. Maybe they need to borrow. What else's confidence in this. Yeah, right. To be able to get in touch with that. But everybody has that ability to be able to achieve their dreams. We get. We get in our own way. But once we have this and this in alignment, man.
Yeah.
You were on fire.
Yeah, dude. You know, it's funny, I just had this little epiphany as you're. As you're sharing that. I was like, it's not believed. It's believe. Right. So it's not you do it once and it's done. It's that you do it routinely and it becomes. Yes.
Yes.
Does that sound about right?
Yeah. It's. Again, you're creating that neural pathway that you have to continue to lube with the belief juice over and over again. So those neural. That rough. Those neural pathways that you're creating get deeper and deeper and deeper so it's easier for you to connect with that belief.
And you're right, man. It all starts with. With inside.
Yeah.
Awesome.
Yeah. Well, all right, so you. So you've obviously done. You've used your own framework and frame of reference to do the miraculous within your own life.
You know, I got the chance to meet you and. And your. And your. And your spouse, and like, there's. There's a. Like a beautiful vibe there. I know you guys are on vacation right now, so I'm super grateful that you decided to pop on a call with me and kind of like really come to the podcast, you know, so you're surrounded by all this goodness. What made you decide to say, okay, well, you know, I've. I'VE been a successful entrepreneur. I've, you know, I've, I've, I've done this for my own life. Now I really want to go out here and pour, pour out to as many people as, As I can. What, what's now driving you to do that now?
Well, in the beginning, Stephen, I, I thought to myself, if there's any reason that I had gone through what I'd gone through, it was, this is why, like there, if, if I had to make sense of it somehow, of why the universe would have me struck, struck down, if you will, at 32 years old, the prime of my life, and have to deal with all of that adversity. This is it. Yeah, but, but now it, it's still that. But now there is. I, I do feel that there's, there's a need, there is a need for. Because with the people that I, that I work with, that I have worked with, especially in the fitness industry over the last decade plus, there are so many people that need to believe in themselves.
Yeah.
And they need, they need at least that seed planted that they can make a comeback against any setback that they have in their lives. They can achieve greatness, but they need a little, they need some help.
Yeah.
And that's what his, that is what spoke to me. And then also our friend Amberly Lago, I saw her speaking at a fitness event and I've used this twice already in this conversation, but the universe tapped me on the shoulder and said, now is your time. Yeah. You start spreading your message and start impacting more lives because more people need to hear this.
Yeah. No, I don't disagree. That's why I had to have you on the show. And I'm so grateful that we've made sure we made time to do this and I'm looking forward to having you on again for sure. One of the things that I'd like to touch on for a second is, well, there's a couple different things. So first of all, obviously, it's becoming a fast AI dominated world, which is interesting.
I actually saw a recent study that said when you asked AI, what is something humanity needs to know that they don't give themselves credit for? And it's interesting that one of the first things that came up was the fact that they can rewire their own brain. Like even AI doesn't have the, doesn't currently have the capacity to rewire itself. It can learn upon itself, but it can't, you know, currently based on even me asking my own AI tools, like, hey, can you do this? No, this is uniquely just like the divine fingerprint. Right. And I find that interesting. But I also find that humanity as a whole has really adopted a very pharmaceutical based healing journey. Right. And most of my healing in general has not been pharmaceutical in nature at all. I mean, I've had to do some hormone regulation and some stuff like that, but the vast majority of it has been, I'll call it energetic. I mean, working with, working with people that are very intuitively gifted, very divinely centered. Obviously I'm a believer in Jesus, so I don't, I don't ever, I don't break away from that. But I've also worked with folks that after going through 10, 6, 7, 10 years of just traditional therapy, I work with this person for six months and it's like I got 10 years of therapy in six months. And you know, something that I wanted to touch on a little bit because I think it's a little bit of a faux pas. And I definitely don't hear men talking about it is energy work or slight. As someone say it was Reiki or something like that. I'm curious to know what you've seen, what you. And kind of how you see that, because I, I really want people to really start really leaning into alternative medicine types, especially if they're again, ten times more effective. Yeah.
I'm glad you brought that up because that is a part of my journey that I had, I felt I had to venture into because Western medicine got me so far.
Yeah.
So in my journey to again make sure I didn't leave any stones unturned, I started looking at alternative ways of healing. So I actually started looking into Reiki and I started studying and I actually became a level two Reiki practitioner.
Yeah.
Which for those of you who don't know what that is, I mean, that is energy work. It's. Yeah, yeah. And I also started studying Tai Chi and studying the meetings of the body, and I also became a Tai Chi instructor. So I am very much a proponent of, for alternative ways of healing other than pharmaceuticals. But interestingly enough that you say that energy is so important because we are energetic beings.
But most people don't. They don't know that. They don't realize.
Yeah, yeah. They say their consciousness is just here. Yeah.
Yes. Right. And the ability to rewire our brains and ability to rewire how we think and how we are is 100% possible.
Yeah.
And when we, when we're able to do that, when we start to rewire who we are, when we change who we are, and that's something that's also fundamental that people need to understand that in order to change our reality or change our lives, we have to change as a person, as a. There is no way you're going to reach your goal or reach your dream being the person that you were for that. Yeah, right. And need to change energetically. Like your energetic signature needs to change. When we talk about brain and heart, those two things need to be in coherence for you to be able to do that.
Yeah.
So energy work is absolutely a. It's a part of my daily regimen and something that I would highly recommend start to at least look into.
Yeah. I would say it this way because. All right, so I, when I first entered that world or began to understand, I felt it was a bit, a little woo woo for me. Right. And I'll, I'll use that. And I, and I'll use that until I had this, this. Do you call it the spirit that. What you got the ear, the tapping you of the shoulder. I call it the spiritual download. They're like one of the same, right. As I was, I was having this moment where I had already done some research and scientifically I knew that the, the, the soul's resonance. And I say resonance because it vibrates. Right. You can do that with a tuning fork. You can see it physically with a tuning fork. With your hair, with your, with the hair on your skin. Like you're, you vibrate, you're. You're 70% water. If you take a tuning fork, you go out to the ocean or the here, you can watch it. It'll just get it close and it'll like shake it all over the place. Well, and then when I understood that science, I began to look, okay, well what's, what's out there? And they've actually been a capture scientifically with specific lenses that allows you to see the soul's resonance. And it was interesting the, the frequency of someone who's like kind of operating in fear, guilt, shame, like that kind of the, the, the resonance is like an eight off the skin. Right. And it actually had. And at least with the cameras, I don't know how much of this is the camera versus whatever, but it has a hue to it. Right. And it just so happens the hue is typically towards a negative purple or brown or brown or black or red. Right. Meanwhile, you take someone who's, who prays and meditates and practices solid spirituality every single day. It's part of their daily regimen. They tend to be more filled with gratitude they tend to have more abundance in their life. They tend to have better relationships with people. And many times that that field is upwards of a foot off your body. So then I was like, okay, well, that's. Okay, I get that. Okay, that's kind of cool, right? So then I was like, I had this. Another download. I was like, well, it's interesting that you can walk into a room with no lights on whatsoever and know whether or not you're alone or not. And if you couldn't see and you can't see somebody come in the other door or whatever, and, like, they. And you. You can feel someone else's presence in a dark room, which tells me there's a level of.
Magnetism or reverse polarity where it pushes away. Right? So then I got to thinking, okay, well, if I understand that, then I've also heard scientifically, they can prove that you trap emotions, unhealthy emotions in the body. And part of a healing journey is to release the emotions or the blockages that are there. It's very difficult to do that with what I refer to as talk at you therapy. So it's like, hey, tell me your story. And then you come in the next week just like, okay, well, tell me more about your story. You come in and you're like. You're just. You're just replaying the story again. You're. I forgot what the. It's a. It's a mental loop, right? It reminds the human soul in the brain to, like, kind of be stuck or whatever. Meanwhile, you start working with somebody who actually understands how the energy signature, the soul's resonance, which the Bible talks about, believe it or not, it talks about these types of things, which is so interesting to me that mankind in general, if it doesn't fit in a box, like, it's. It's largely put on a shelf until I think you, like, go through an experience like you or I have gone through, and you're like, no, both can be true. Like, they don't. They're not at odds with each other at all. I mean, Jesus walked up and was healing people left and right.
Right?
And what do you do? He'd touch their eyes. He'd spit on the ground. He'd pick up mud. Like, he would be literally talking to somebody, say, all right, they're healed. And you go over there and. And to me, it's a. It's an energetic. It's an energetic or frequency exchange. I tell people all the time that, you know, when I hear Jesus talk about the kingdom of Heaven, when he goes to describe it, it sounds an awful, like what Joe Dispenza would call, would quantify as the quantum. It's a place of all love and abundance. And in that, and in that aura, in that area, it's like you can do anything. Like, and I mean that loosely. Like, I've seen people heal in a moment just with a new level of awareness. Right. But I had to have a coach. I had to have somebody that could actually teach me.
Well, first of all, I didn't teach me anything. First of all, they just helped me. They're like, hey, there's a, I, I, I feel there's a blockage here. I'm going to help work with you here. This is what we're going to do, by the way. This is what I'm doing. This is how I'm doing. This is why this matters. Like, they went through the extra steps of helping me understand this. And now, you know, and I've, I've before, you know, today, before we hopped on this call, I'm, I'm trying to, like, so I can show up my best self. I'm doing breath work based on the thing that I was telling you about ahead of time. I meant deep breathing, holding it for six seconds, and all these types of things. Like.
Talk to me a little bit. I know we only, I know we're about to run over on time and forgive me, I talked a lot. It's just, I love what you do so much that I'm always intrigued.
Like, you have said so many things right now that I would love to, to touch on, but. Yeah, go ahead.
Well, let's do that. Let's just unpack whatever's on your heart. Because again, I feel like humanity is coming into a new level of awareness of themselves. And those that lean into it are going to have the, the byproduct of the blessing that happens to go with it. You're going to have others that go deeper into their ego. And some would say the inner child or the shadow or any number of references, they're going to go deeper into there. And because of that, they're going to, they're going to experience life in a completely different way than someone who's over here operating at a, at a higher level of frequency and resonance.
And that's, you know, that's one of the things you talked about, the higher level of frequency when you were talking about what you were describing was the aura that we all have and that rational frequency that we all operate. And when we are dealing with Those lower frequencies of maybe fear or jealousy or anger. We have those lower vibrational states which are more dense then we're dealing with happiness, love, excitement, appreciation.
Explain dense, explain density.
So if we're thinking about like the, the energetic field that we have around us, if we want, and everything is made of energy, that's what people, you know, we need to understand. Everything is energy and energy is everything. Even though it sounds very woo woo.
But it's, it's true, it's, it's about, it's, it's pretty stinking close to ones and zeros when you, when you actually get into how miracles happen. And I can use scripture all day long and back it all up. I don't, I don't have to go outside of Jesus to get there. So continue on please.
Let's just think about how we are feeling when we're sad, when we're depressed, when we are in a negative state of mind. We feel heavy. Absolutely. We feel weighed down, we feel lethargic. Now let's flip the script. Think about how we feel when we are in gratitude, when we're happy, when we're excited, when we are feeling love.
We feel, literally we feel energetic. Your vibration is now at a higher frequency.
We are all capable of being at that level. But as you talked about that, that talk therapy talk, actually therapy, when we're replaying those loops, when we get stuck in feeling that we are the victim of that loop, we actually need to realize that we're the creator.
That we can get ourselves out of that loop by doing that. When we talk about your energetic frequencies and clearing your chakras, which are your, you have seven main energy points in your body, which is what Ricky talks about and teaches. You're able to clear those chakras, you're able to center them, you're able to let your energy flow like it is supposed to, and you're able to get in touch with those higher frequency of vibrations.
Yeah. Yeah.
And when you're able to do that, things change because then you're able to really tap into. Joe Dispenza again. Talks about the realm of possibilities, which is endless, which is where you are now able to create. Yeah. What you want to see, what you want to be, who you want to become. And again, you're now able to start to make that change of yourself to become the person you want to be or have the life that you want to have, or the experiences that you want to experience. But you have the power to do that. Yeah. It's all inside Bro, I love it.
I love it. Well, in the last couple minutes we've got together, and again, I got to get you back on here when I. When I have my. The setup right. Fully rock and roll. But it's funny. I think some of the best stuff falls out organically. But even when the circumstances aren't perfect on either end, but are on my end, I should say, I always get so focused on. No, I want it to be right. You know, it's the thing. And it's like, that's the ego, monkey brain, right?
Yeah.
If there's one thing on your heart that we. That either you haven't shared to date.
Or we haven't shared today on this podcast that you think humanity as a whole needs to understand. And keep in mind, most of the folks that pay attention to the channel, they're. They're, you know, they're. They're high achievers in the grand scheme of things, or they're business owners, want to build a business, but they. They have greater aspirations more than anything else. Like, they're not. They're not content with status quo. Right? What. What is something on your heart? Like, when I say on your heart, let it. Let. Just let it flow like that. You feel like they need to know more than anything else.
I think that no matter how successful you become, you're going to have those setbacks. And it doesn't matter how much you are able to achieve in life, there are going to be those moments where you feel trapped or you feel small, you feel incapable. Just know that again, everything that you have gone through in your life up until that point is there to serve you. It is there to remind you that you can tap into your greatest potential by putting these two things together. You already have everything that you need to succeed, but also your power is limitless. It is absolutely limitless. So just in those moments, just remember, remember that you've been in this situation before. Imagine yourself already winning beyond the obstacle that's in front of you. Notice small wins along the way that have gotten you to this point. Shift mindset to realize, focusing on the things that you can do, not the things that you can't do. And then also expect your journey ahead of you to be difficult. Expect it to be hard. Expect it to be road bumps, but also expect to win.
Yeah.
And the snapshot of the rinse methodology right there.
Yeah. Dude, I love you, man. I can't. I can't thank you enough for joining me today, bro. Especially on vacation at the time this recording guys give you Guys, an idea. It's been a long fourth of July weekend for a lot of folks and you know, and Ian, dude, you, you always show up and you always help people and I love how your heart is, man. I love how you're wired. I love how you're wired to serve and give back, you know, because I find that a lot of folks can go experience some, you know, radical transformation, joy on their own and then never pay it forward. Right? And I love the fact that you, you with everything that you do, dude, you step up to do that. So where can I find out more about you and learn more about everything you're doing and possibly connect with you?
Yeah, Stephen, first of all man, you are a soldier in the army of the light, man. And I appreciate you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to have me on the show. But people, if they, they want to find out more about the rinse methodology and coaching and they can go to the positivepersistence.com My Socials, it's Enr Bowen, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn. Coming up, I'm actually going to be on a virtual summit called the Relentless Summit. Let's go and find out more about my message there. And then in August, I'm actually going to be launching my first six week coaching program. So we're putting the finishing touches on that. And the Resilience revolution coaching program will be live in August, bro.
Love it, man. Dude, everybody go check, go check Ian out. I'm telling you right now, he's the real deal. He, he, he really means every, not just everything he says, but everything he wants to push forward into the world in a beautiful way. Dude, I can't thank you enough. And by the way, as soon as Safe Haven is officially up and running fully, I had a vision while we were chatting today I would like to do as part of our endeavor, I think it would be beautiful to have these, you know, 18 to 20 world class entrepreneurs that are, that are in need to relaunch and re engage with themselves. I'd love to come out and do some Tai chi. I did Tai Chi when I was studying Shaolin kung fu probably 10 years ago, probably 15. Probably 15 years ago. And I know how peaceful I felt after doing simple movements with breath work. I'd love to invite you to come be part of that and actually have you do some of that work and maybe even share your insights at even a deeper level than we did today on the show.
That would be amazing.
That would be awesome. All right, brother, well enjoy. Rest your vacation.
Stephen, thank you so much, man. I'll let you get back to your unpacking in your new beautiful home. And again, thank you so much for having me on the show.
Sounds good, bro. Take care. See you.
Bye. Bye.
Hey, guys, I hope you enjoyed that amazing conversation. And if you want more just like that to help you level up your life and your business, you're not going to miss this next one. Check it out.
And here's the way you find your unique ability, right? So it's not like some test like strength finders or find your parachute or whatever the case may be. It's really stepping back to a fundamental relationship between the skill you have and the problem you would love to solve.
