How to be an entrepreneur #realestate #entrepreneur #entrepreneurialleadership #realestateagents

Steve D Valentine reflects on 25 years of entrepreneurship in real estate, describing the emotional challenges of comparison to high-profile influencers (e.g., Ryan Serhant, a presenter named Sharon) and the value of learning tactically from a few chosen mentors. He emphasizes finding joy in work, applying lessons from podcasts (including insights from Cody Sanchez about building businesses from the heart and buying businesses), and being practical about who to follow. He offers a free 10-question "agent interview" template to help agents evaluate whether their brokerage/team brings them joy and whether a move would be beneficial, and promotes his events and real-estate investing credentials in Phoenix.

Entrepreneurship is hard. It is so rough. Like I've been doing this for 25 years and I was just sitting in my office thinking, I'm leaning back and I just had some great agent attraction meetings and going through their stuff, going through some contracts and I'm just thinking like, how does Ryan Sirhant do all that he does like him? Sharon, Some of these influencers, I just don't know how they do what they do. But I also know that I'm not them and you're not me. So I realized like we all have certain paths and I think the hard part is, is that there's a comparison thing that tends to steal our joy. Like I was sitting there just thinking about how somebody like Ryan Saran has his vacations, his life, his things and all the things that he's doing with new businesses, his Netflix show, all these things. Like I'm just so impressed by how he managed that and I'm curious now Ryan's had a 12 year run of doing all these things and I've been doing it for 25 years and I'm not anywhere near where Ryan Sirhant is. And that's okay because I'm not going to be Ryan Serhan. Part is I don't want to be Ryan. I love what he does, I love his personality, I love who he is. It's not going to be me. It's just not the life that I want to live. Now there's other people that I'm watching that are much more relevant in the success path and their life path that I'm doing that I'm watching, right? So it's not that I want to have their life, but I'm watching some of the things that they're doing in order to increase my life as far as my wealth, my health, my time, those types of things. And watching some of the things that people are doing and maybe some of the things that they are investing in, some of their health habits. So we walk down this road and I look at those people, I go, you know what, what is that person that's one level above me in income doing that I can start doing? So here's an example. Sharon is the president of our company. I always try to say his last name and I'm gonna botch it. Servantas. That's not right. See, I fucked it up. I can pronounce his first name. That's good news. So here's the cool thing. I have been entrenched in Sharon's teaching for the last eight weeks now. When it when it looks at scale, I'm just going to take a small metric. Sharon has 350,000 followers. I have 50,000 followers. My 50,000 followers are not as active as Shiron's 50,000. So it's still a very big gap. Now, what I love about Sharon is the simple, tactical, inspirational things that he does, which many of the podcasts and teachings I've watched him, I've been able to apply those things in my life. So he's a very fascinating person to watch and listen to from that aspect. So then there's Cody Sanchez, who I really am enjoying her content from a couple of different perspectives. She likes to challenge things. Even though she's doing something one way, she will challenge herself. In another recent podcast I listened to with Cody, I don't even remember the guy's name, but it was building a billion dollar business in joy. And it was very fascinating to listen to this guy that had sold a company for $15 million and was broke in a year. What he learned was finding the joy and building a business and a thing that he does from his heart. So what I loved about this particular podcast was he was building his business from the heart around the things that he enjoyed and the information he wanted to give. Now, what I learned from that piece was more joy. And what do I really love doing with you guys? One of the things I love doing is just sharing some of this stuff from the heart, like I'm doing now, and not worrying about what somebody's opinion is, where I'm going, but really delivering a few practical things that might impact you and might inspire to realize, like, maybe I'm going down the wrong path, maybe I'm comparing myself to the wrong people and maybe I need to take a step back. I do believe that in that podcast, one of the main things that I learned from it was just the ability to go through and enjoy what you're doing and speak from the heart, rather than what social media has done to some of us and given us anxiety about what's somebody going to think? What's going to be say, am I saying it the right way? Is the right lighting? Is it all the things rather than what's truly coming from your heart and giving your opinion, going down that road and enjoying the process. The other main thing that I got out of Cody's podcast, Cody is an entrepreneur that talks about buying businesses, which I think is fascinating to go through all the investing that I've done in the residential space for the last 20 years, mainly in the last decade and start to look at, well, what. What are some other things that I might be interested in that I already know the theory behind the numbers in investing and buying real estate. Well, what is the theory in buying businesses now? I think that's something simple that I can maybe add to my life in that particular piece. And it's fascinating to me. Some of us will go down a road. So if you noticed, I have two people right now that I'm following very intently and listening, applying and seeing those things. If you're listening to a bunch of people and you're trying to go from level A to level B, some of those people that are influencing us are on level Z. And it's almost hard to comprehend, you know, in that space, like, I'm making a million dollars a month. I saw an influencer yesterday. You know, honestly, I made a million dollars a month. Cool. That is so far away from making your first dollar online, it's almost unfathomable. Now what we get sucked into is that that person is really going to show us how to make a million dollars for 1999. And that's. That's a hard thing to follow. Right? I don't know about you, but I've been sucked into way more than 1999 for the Secret sauce. One of the big pieces on that. If you're going to do it, be all in on it, learn from it. Sometimes you will never do anything with what the purpose of it was. But did you get $2,000 of ROI? Return on investment that makes a difference in other parts of your life or something you can apply later on. Just be really practical and tactical about the people that you're following and the people that you're aspiring to be. I think it's fun that Ryan Sirhan is very inspirational to me. I love his stuff. I love what he does. God, he's so freaking entertaining. And that's awesome, right? One of these days, definitely goal to hang out with Ryan Serhant. I'm probably too hillbilly for that. So now when we go back, that's an inspiration person for me. When I go back to people that I aspire to be like or apply their information that I'm looking at a two or three people for maybe the next 90 days, six months that I can really intently follow and go, how can I apply the things that they're doing to get to their level of success? So those two people. Sharon. I love his presenting, so I'm very fascinated with how he presents. I'm also very fascinated with how he talks. So even while I'm shooting this video, I'm trying to think, like, what would Sharon do, right? I'm also fascinated when he speaks to a crowd. So I'm watching his language, his temperament, his tonality, how he's doing things. I'm going, how do I add those things to be better? It's like the dumb things, like, how do I make my Zoom calls more entertaining? Like Shiron is. You can watch Shiron for hours on Zoom and not be bored. I'm like, okay, I need to do better, right? Because I can impact more people if I can do this. Last time I was on a call with Sharon, I think he broke Zoom, right? 13, 14. I don't know how many thousands of people on that call. And I'm like, man, how can I get a hundred people on my next call, right? So, hey, by the way, I do do several events online and in person a month on my website, valentinegroupaz.com events. You can sign up for any of those events. Would love to have you there. You know, my goal is really to impact the real estate industry because I believe at a high level that the more impact we can make in a positive light in the industry and show what I'm doing and helping the industry, that it's making a difference all the way down to the consumer. And you know, it's funny about this is I've had, I've been fired or not hired by several people because they're like, oh, well, I've seen your social media and it doesn't look like you do a lot of real estate. Well, we do do a lot of real estate. Still buying a lot of real estate, still selling a lot of real estate. It's just not a lot of my social media piece, although we're adding more to it. So I say all that just to say that, you know, my engagement with you guys is how do we make a win win situation in this industry? And that is my goal is to work with the agents because I believe that if we're working together and you're seeing how I'm doing things, maybe it applies to you. And maybe you want a little piece of what I've been doing. And I'm close enough to go, well, maybe I can emulate a little bit of what Steve is doing, because that looks like a good path in my real estate career. Right? I would be flattered by that. And if you were experiencing anything right now with your real estate business and what I mean by experience, you are questioning where you're Sitting right now. And I'm not just talking about your brokerage. This could be your brokerage, your team, your career. There's a couple of questions that I have developed for you that I'd love to send you and if you will DM me the word agent interview, I will gladly send that back to you. And what that is is it's a, it's a two fold piece that you are going to absolutely love. It is 10 questions to make you question all these things and where you're at currently in your real estate space, like right now. I'll give you the first question. Does your brokerage, your community, your team, does it currently bring you joy? That's the question. I want to know how happy you are because a lot of us have been head down for the last freaking, I don't know how many years and we may not be experiencing a whole lot of joy when we need some change. By the way, this guidance here is to look at things and go, okay, I answer these questions and maybe I need to start looking at some change. So then you're going to take the same questions and when you go and you start looking, new brokerage, new team, you need to ask these questions based on the ones that you're missing things and see if that next move is where you want to go. So what I'm doing is I want to help you go and help you understand what you're moving from and moving towards. And sometimes in the real estate space we do this, we're here and we move, we move lateral, we move from one team to the next or one brokerage for the next, maybe for a little increase in splits, maybe decrease. Nobody increases splits. Well, maybe they do. Point being is that these questions are going to give you some rails and some boundaries and you might answer all of them and go, I am happy where I'm at. But I guarantee you, if you even sent this, you were unhappy with something in your life and I want to help you have a conversation around it. And if real brokerage is an opportunity for you, I'd love to talk to you. And by the way, it's not for everybody, but it's worth the conversation to see what the value is. So if you want to do that, you know where I'm at. Get this free template. Take the quiz, answer some questions, figure out where you're at. Hey, I'm Steve Valentine.
