A short conversational excerpt from the YouTube video "Real estate agents are not opponents" (recorded June 4, 2024) in which an unnamed speaker emphasizes that agents should view transactions as collaborative—"a mission to get the house sold"—and rejects treating other agents as opponents. Steve D Valentine responds that if the other side adopts an adversarial attitude, he will respond aggressively ("go for the throat").

We have a mission to get the house sold, to get it bought, to convey it to you, to make sure everybody's taken care of and move on. It never did it cross my mind that we are opponents, right? I never walk into a transaction relationship with another agent, as in, oh, you're my opponent and I come from corporate negotiations, right? So people automatically think, oh, well, me versus you one is going to win. We're going to arm wrestle and I'm going to crush your soul and I'm going to feel so good about it. And I. In order for me to win, you have to lose terribly. Not just kind of lose, but you need to be, you know, just annihilated. I mean, how many transactions do you run into? You're like, whoa, dude, we all are going there.
I can only tell you, though, that if the attitude on the other side is met with that, then I'm gonna go for the throat.
