Study your favorite authors' structural patterns: chapter length, character count, plot beats. One writer analyzed popular children's series, mapped the structure, and used it to write his own series that sold over 1.2 million copies.
Chapters
This is something that every writer should be doing all of the time, and yet I almost never hear of writers doing it. So you need to take your favorite author, somebody that writes those books that stick with you, that writes those books that you wish you could write, and you need to read them carefully and keep track of what shows up and when throughout the novel. Because if you do this, you're going to see the same patterns repeat over and over, and you're going to learn a ton. So a good friend of mine wanted to write a children's series of books. So he studied all of the popular ones that were currently on the market. He looked at the length of the chapters, how many characters, when certain things happened in the book, like all of the details that he saw over and over and over through all of the books. And then he used that as a model to write his own series that has now gone on to sell over 1.2 million copies. Like and subscribe for more writing tips.
