You Need THIS in Your Novel! #authorlife #writing #writer #author #publishing

The antagonist isn't the villain, it's whoever starts the conflict in a scene. A detective can be the protagonist when his life gets disrupted, then the antagonist when he interrogates someone. Many writers lock the main character into every scene, killing the story's momentum.
Chapters
This is a weird writing tip, but hang with me. I think you're going to like it. The antagonist of your story isn't the bad guy. He's not the villain. And the protagonist isn't really the good guy either. So when you think about the antagonist and the protagonist of your story, you need to think of them not as people, but different forces in your story. So there are many scenes in your story where the global protagonist, that particular character, they should actually be the The antagonist of that scene, because whoever is knocking another character's life off balance, whoever is acting first in a scene, that's the antagonist. The antagonist is the one that's trying to get the protagonist to do something that they want. Think about like a crime story. In one scene, the detective, the global protagonist, his life is the one that gets knocked off balance. So he's the protagonist. Then in the next scene, he's the one that's the antagonist because he's interrogating somebody else. He's knocking somebody else his life off balance. He is the one that wants something from somebody else. So he's the antagonist, and the person they're interrogating is the protagonist. Too many times writers make their protagonist, their global protagonist, the protagonist of every single scene of their novel, and it doesn't work. Or they can't decide who's the protagonist and the antagonist, and people keep like switching seats around. So you've got to really understand who the antagonist is, who the protagonist is, and that they're not necessarily the bad guy. And the good guy of your story. For more writing tips, subscribe below.
