Christina Hall argues brands need multiple logo variations, not just one. A compact mark works for a hat, a full wordmark for a website. Design differently for insiders versus the public, and for different sizes.

They're not a real brand designer. You should run so fast and get your money back. If your business has just one logo, you're doing it wrong. You're already doing it wrong. I hate to break it to you, actually. I love breaking this to people because it's my job. So let's learn something today. Your logo, your brand visual identity, which is what your logo is a part of, should have multiple variations of your logo. You should all look like they came from the same family. They should look like quadruplets. You need these for the multiple different applications. And if applications just made your brain go, what the fuck is she talking about? Let me tell you. Applications is simply where you put your logo. For example, this hat. I designed this logo. This brand is called Apex. You don't see the word Apex on here because it looks cooler by itself on the hat. This logo markets for the insiders, all right? They already know what it stands for, and no one else does. On your website, you probably want a logo that has your full name spelled out so people can get an idea of what your actual brand name is. Those are just two examples of different ways you can use your logo for different audiences, different spaces, different sizes. You need more.
