A short YouTube marketing tip by Christina Hall arguing that a logo's role is to identify the company (be its face), not to explain what the company does. Hall uses personal face imagery and the Nike swoosh as examples and emphasizes that product/service explanations belong in marketing copy (website, ads, social media, billboards, etc.).
It is not your logo's job to tell people what you do. It is your logo's job to be the face of your company. Does my face look. Look at my face. Does that tell you what I do? Does it tell you anything about me? No. And yet here my face is existing, being the logo of my body. This is a logo. Do you know what this business does? No. Nike Swoosh. Does that tell you what they sell?
No, but they're all identifiable. You can look at them all. You can look at my face and go, that's Christina. You can look at the swoosh and go, that's Nike. If you're familiar with this brand, you'd say that's Apex. It's about identifying who it is, not what it does. You tell people the what in your marketing, your messaging, your positioning, your website, your social media, your ads, your billboards, your magazine. That is where you tell people what you do.
