Christina Hall (YouTube, June 13, 2024) warns that poor or inconsistent visual branding causes potential customers to distrust a business and avoid buying. She argues that mismatched logos, colors, typefaces and unaligned social media, website and print collateral produce "micro trust erosion" — subconscious loss of trust that makes prospects less willing to pay or hire.

If your visual branding is not getting across the right message, you are missing out and leaving money on the table. There are a certain set of subconscious thoughts, feelings and assumptions that you need your target audience to have in order for them to be like, yes, this is the person for me. Yes, they are worth what they're asking. I want to hire them right now. And you don't get those by looking untrustworthy, cheap, and like you threw together your visual brand. Worse than that, inconsistent branding across the board. As an example, I see this a lot with people who just have like one logo and really haven't taken time to define their brand. Colors, their typefaces and their social media, website, print, collateral, all of that are not aligned at all. This creates something I like to call micro trust erosion. Subconsciously, when we see things that don't seem to align across the board of something that should be consistent, we tend to lose trust in it. And it's not even a conscious thing. We just for some reason don't really feel like paying into it. That is what's happening with your brand if you do not.
