In this informal, advice‑focused YouTube monologue, Fun Coach Tamika explains that the primary reason children lie is that they learn the behavior from their parents. She opens with a biblical reference (Colossians 3:21) to stress that parents should not provoke or discourage their children, linking parental integrity to children’s honesty. Tamika shares a personal anecdote about being asked to lie for a guardian, illustrating how adult deception teaches children that lying is acceptable. She then identifies a secondary cause: unmet emotional or attention needs, which children may try to satisfy through fabrications. To address these issues, she promotes her storytelling summer camps, arguing that regular storytelling improves communication skills, fulfills imaginative needs, and reduces the urge to lie. Throughout, she emphasizes the importance of parents modeling truthful behavior and teaching effective communication, concluding with a typical call‑to‑action for likes, subscriptions, and comments.

Hey y'all, Fun Coach Tamika here. Welcome back to my channel. Today we will discuss the main reason your child lies. So let's get into it. Colossians 3:21 says, fathers, provoke not your children to anger lest they be discouraged. As parents, the Bible instructs us not to provoke our children unless they be discouraged. Now, why would it say Lest they be discouraged. I believe it's because as parents, we have authority over our children, and they may lose hope and feel helpless if we aren't walking in integrity. And let's be honest, most parents do not want their children to hold them accountable. I'm just saying. Again, I'm not blaming you. Remember, this is a safe space. PTSD stands for Parent Trying to Stop Dysfunction. So that's why we're here. But think about when you were younger. Did your parents ever tell you to answer the phone and tell them they weren't there because they didn't want to talk to them? I remember a time we had a gate, right? And we had like the big bay window so we can see outside. And I remember the Jehovah's Witnesses walking up and they had opened the gate, and one of my guardians Ran and like pushed the door up a little bit and was standing behind the door and saying, tell them I'm not here, tell them I'm not here. Now what if I said, hey man, I ain't about to tell these nice people you ain't here? Y'all wouldn't even know me right now because I would have been sent to the upper room at an early age, okay? You cannot ask your child to lie for you And then get angry when they lie to you. Your child lies because you lie. That's the first hard truth I need you to soak in today. What? You thought I was going to say something more deep than that? Nah, it's really simple. If your child is lying, a lot of the times it's because they have learned to lie from you. Another reason your child lies is because there's an unmet need. that they're trying to fill. They may lie to get more attention and/or an emotional connection from you, or they may need some sort of mental stimulation that they're not getting, and using their imagination through lies is helping them to meet that need. Now, if you want to help them meet this need in a healthy way, listen up. My storytelling summer camps are always packed with children who Never want to go home. Why is that? Well, because of the stories. We write stories, we read stories, we watch stories, we act stories out. The camp is filled with me and children doing nothing but exchanging stories, and I never have problems with them. Never. And I have ADHD, ODD, ADD—all of these—they bring them to me. But the reason I never have a problem with them is because when you allow children to exchange stories, they become better communicators. So they don't feel the need to act out what they're trying to say to me. They can just come and say it to me. As an effective communicator, I'm not afraid of any answer you give me, even if it's a no. So I have no desire to lie to you. This is why it's important to teach your children to become effective communicators, especially if you don't want them to lie. I'm just saying now, you have to practice what you preach, right? Cannot have them lying for you, and you cannot lie if you do not want them to lie. Hope this was helpful. Hit the like and subscribe button and drop a comment below.
