NARCISSIST Parents Are SHALLOW

In this solo YouTube monologue, Fun Coach Tamika opens with a biblical reference to Mark 4:16‑17, interpreting the parable of the sower as a metaphor for narcissistic parents who lack depth and are easily offended. She then shares a detailed personal anecdote about her estranged mother’s attempt to move in after a divorce, describing how she set firm boundaries by refusing the request, confronting her mother on a drive, and ultimately cutting contact for two years. Tamika explains that narcissistic parents are “shallow” because their wounded hearts cannot tolerate a “no,” leading them to punish, silence, or offend others. She argues that such surface‑level connections drain emotional energy and prevent authentic relationships. The core advice centers on protecting oneself and one’s children: maintain clear boundaries, advocate fiercely for the inner child, model healthy self‑advocacy for physical children, and avoid enabling cycles of dysfunction. She recommends seeking professional mental‑health support and building an unbiased support network outside the family, especially when enablers are present. The video concludes with a call to action—like, comment, and subscribe—while encouraging viewers to apply the outlined strategies to break the cycle of narcissistic abuse.

Hey y'all, Fun Coach Tamika here, and welcome back to my channel. Today we would discuss why I believe narcissistic parents are shallow and how you can break the cycle with your children. So let's get into it. Mark 4:16-17 says, and these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground, who when they have heard the word Immediately receive it with gladness, and they have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time. Afterward, when affliction or persecution arises for the word's sake, immediately they are offended. Okay, so this is where Jesus was talking about the parable of the sower and how seeds take root in our hearts. Remember, narcissists are severely wounded; they have a wounded heart. So notice. This verse says they have no root in themselves and are immediately offended. So people who are shallow lack depth and are easily offended, aka narcissists, which is amazing to me how they are the most easily offended. However, they're the ones who are constantly offending other people. However, I digress on that. I remember a time when my mother came to visit me and my youngest child was 2 years old then. I was recently divorced and I was wondering why all of a sudden she decided she wants to come see me. Now, at that particular time, she was living with my sister. I decided that I was going to call my sister to see what was going on because my mother does not come see me. She barely calls me, so for her to want to come see me, something was up. So I called my little sister and I said, "Hey, did you know mom considering to come see me?" My sister goes, "Well, that makes sense." And so I'm like, "What's up?" She lets me know that they had had a disagreement. She was holding my mom accountable for something, and my mother does not like to be held accountable. She figured she could avoid her for a little bit and possibly come to me until she figured out her next move. I figured that when she got to my house, she was probably gonna ask me to move in with me. She didn't ask me on the phone. She just said, oh, you know, I want to come see you and the baby, because my daughter was 2. All right, cool. So she comes, and I must admit, I was very uneasy the whole time she was here. I was waiting for the conversation. The last day that she was supposed to be here was when she finally casually said, oh, we should drive and go get my stuff, and I could move in with you. I could help you out with the baby. So I told her, I said, let's go For a drive because I didn't know how I would say to her that, no, I don't want you living with me. I don't trust you. And yeah, you can't run away from your problems to me. So we went for a drive because I felt that at least I could be driving and focusing on the road. I wouldn't have to look at her face when I said what I had to say to her. And I told her, I said, Mom, there's no one that I love more than I love you. However, there's no one who's hurt me more than you have. I said, that being said, me and you don't have a relationship at all. I would love to build a relationship with you. And so I have to say you cannot come live with me. However, once you go back home, we can have conversations. You know, we can build our relationship. And in 6 months, let's revisit this conversation. And before she left, to let me know that she was angry with me, she left everything that I had given her on the guest bed. She did not take it with her, including the copy of my first book that I, I had given her. And so I was sad. I cried because I was just like, wow, you know, um, I thought we was getting somewhere. I thought, you know, she wanted to come see me. Clearly she didn't. She just wanted something from me. And when I told her no, this was her way of punishing me, saying, hey, I don't want nothing you have. And so I felt like, well, maybe she won't— maybe she's just mad right now, but she'll call me and then we could build a relationship and we could talk about it further. That did not happen. I did not hear from her for 2 years. Now, why did all of that happen? Her heart cannot tolerate anything really, let alone a no. She only thinks about what she wants, when she wants it, how she wants it, and from whom she wants it. I'm not even blaming her. I'm not angry with her. I just know how she is, how her heart is, and I continue to pray for her. I pray for her deliverance. I pray for her healing. I pray that she sees God in a way that God can help to heal her broken heart. At the same time, I don't allow her wounded heart to spill onto me and my children because my responsibility as a mother myself is to take care of the children that I have. So that's, that's me protecting me and my children, although I still love her. Narcissistic parents, they become easily offended because their heart is so wounded. They can't tolerate anything. They're Shallow as an estranged adult child, that was the major reason why I had to separate myself so that I could heal because her wounded heart was constantly re-wounding me. She didn't even hear me say not right now. She just heard no and she stopped there. I didn't say no. I said not. Right now, however, a wounded heart will always become easily offended, and they will perceive things, blow them up in a way that that's not what happened. I often say most people are drained and overwhelmed due to the excessive amount of surface-level connections. People have been so wounded that people are no longer willing to go deep in any type of connection anymore. They don't show up for you because they don't have the capacity to show up for you because they're. Not even showing up for themselves. Oftentimes when I see people who are shallow, I understand it's because they are severely wounded. And although I empathize with that, those are not the type of people that I can bring close in an inner circle with me. Why? The Bible even says to guard your heart. Now, guarding your heart means keeping people at the level of connection that they are willing to go. For example, shallow people, surface-level people, they cannot come close to me. Why? Because they choose to be shallow and surface-level. So they have to stay on the shallow end, the surface-level end. How you doing? Okay, great. Talk to you in 6 months. The reason why shallow people, I don't bring them close, is because it takes a lot of energy to carry and show up for yourself and someone else who's unwilling To show up because they're so disconnected. That's too much energy. We all have a purpose here, and if you're spending so much of your energy trying to pull someone into a connection with you, guess what? You don't have energy to do. You do not have an energy to show up for the people that God called you here to serve. Your narcissistic parent, if you hold a mirror up to their face and show them some reflections, they will become offended. They may punish you with silence. They may punish you with. Verbal assault, whatever way they feel that they can punish you, they will do that because they want you to give in. So don't give in. Stand your ground. Advocate fiercely for your inner child because your inner child needs you, and so do your physical children. They need to see their parent advocating fiercely for themselves so that they know how to do it. You want to send the message and show your children that abuse is never okay, no matter who the person is or what the relationship. This helps them to develop a stronger sense of self and emotional well-being. Be sure, if you have not done so already, to seek professional mental health guidance and build a support system because you're going to need it. A support system that doesn't involve your family members because a lot of times narcissistic parents have enablers that are in the family and they do and will advocate fiercely on the behalf of the narcissist. So you don't need that constant cycle of dysfunction. In order to break the cycle of dysfunction, you must have someone that is unbiased to help you. Hope this was helpful.
