In this video, Fun Coach explains that a child's refusal to listen is primarily rooted in a lack of trust toward the parent, not simply disobedience. He frames the issue within a biblical context (Proverbs 22:6) and emphasizes that all behavior is communication. The speaker argues that parental ruptures—often stemming from intergenerational trauma—create distrust, and that unaddressed ruptures lead to dysfunction. To restore trust, he advocates building deep self‑awareness, which enables parents to recognize when a rupture occurs and to repair it immediately. He also teaches a method for helping children shift from behavioral communication to verbal expression. Throughout, he stresses that parents are the main source of the problem, but offers compassionate, actionable steps to heal the relationship. The video concludes with typical YouTube calls to like, share, and subscribe.

Hey y'all, Fun Coach here. Welcome back to my channel. Today we will discuss the main reason why your child doesn't listen, and it's not what you think. I use the Bible as a reference in parenting. Proverbs 22:6, train up a child in a way they should go, and when they're old, they will not depart from it. Training your child means more than just telling them What to do. It is also showing them how by leading the way. A lot of times I work with parents who want me to come in like a savior, swoop in and fix their child. I understand that all behavior is communication. This is why my methods work. Essentially what I do is I help the child learn to communicate with their words instead of through their behaviors. And the reason why this works is because I practice this one thing that I'm gonna share with you today. The problem is, although I can help them communicate more effectively, the main source of the problem is still there. You as the parent. Yes, I said you as the parent is the main source of the problem. Don't get offended. I still love you. I'm just saying you're the problem. When I see a child who doesn't listen to their parent, it's because of one main, major, huge issue: trust. Your child does not trust you. And I'm not even blaming you for that. Remember, the name of this channel is PTSD— Parents Trying to Stop Dysfunction. So I understand that the dysfunction that's going on in the relationship is something that was probably passed down to you. Even if you said, my parents did this thing to me, so when I have my children I'm not doing that thing. I understand that doing the opposite of what my parents did to me is— that was harmful— is still not healthy. Did you know that trauma happens because there's a rupture in the relationship without repair? Here's what you can do about it. Start building self-awareness. When you build self-awareness, you allow yourself grace and space to be human, make mistakes, and repair immediately. I hear you. I'm self-aware. What you talking about? All I'm saying is go deeper, because if your self-awareness was deeper, you would've known that your child does not trust you, and you would've known how to repair the relationship. Building self-awareness helps you know exactly when and how to repair the relationship once there's a rupture. Trust is built when parents repair ruptures. Hope this was helpful.
