Jason Nicholas walks through a park with his dog and argues that looking up from your phone matters for safety and posture. He stumbled in Barcelona while distracted, and he shares clips from a recent rainy walk in New York City.

M-I-C, like microphone. I just want to come live here for a few and just walk and talk. Um, yeah, hope you're having an amazing day. What are you doing on this Sunday? Well, it's Sunday here, but what are you doing today? That sounds good. Yeah, resting, that sounds good. Paying bills. I get it, I get it, all that kind of life stuff, right? So just here with my pup taking her walk, and, uh, as I was walking, I was kind of thinking to myself, uh, that I notice everywhere I go, including myself— I am guilty of this as well— I tend to look down a lot when I'm walking. So my view is like this. I think it's because we're constantly on our phones, on our devices, always looking down, right? I mean, it's ingrained into our core beings of who we are now. It's just— it is part of simply being human. But I need to remind myself to look up when I'm walking, look forward. I mean, for obvious reasons. One, for safety reasons, to see what is ahead. Uh, flashback to my trip to Barcelona where I wasn't paying attention and I tripped on some vendor's wares, um, on the sidewalk there. All's good. But yeah, we need to look up for safety reasons, you know, pay attention, uh, walking in parking lots, crossing streets, the obvious stuff. Another reason that we should look up is, I mean, the view, to see, you know, to see what is up ahead. If we're constantly looking down, we're missing out on an entire other viewpoint. You know, for example, I'm coming upon this nice kind of little pond area here. So if I was looking down, like I was saying before, when we're always looking down on our devices, we— I'd be seeing this and not this. So keep looking up. There's always a view ahead of you. Um, that's one. Safety is another reason to keep looking up. And I need to remind myself, um, constantly to do this. Another thing is just posture, right? I guess it's not really good for your health to be kind of always walking hunched over, looking at the ground, uh, kind of like the reflection of those trees or the trees straight ahead. They're kind of bending, right? Yeah, so as I'm walking, I kind of say to myself, look up, look up, look up, um, every few minutes as a habit. Am I perfect? No, but at least I'm trying to remind myself to look in a good direction. I hope you guys are doing well today. Let me know what you're up to on this Sunday. It's always fun to come on here for a few minutes and just do a little walk and talk, hike and mic, off my top of my head. Not— this is not planned at all, so you'll hear me bumbling, fumbling, stumbling, and yes, my camera will be shaky because I don't have my gimbal. Um, yesterday I was fortunate enough to be in New York City walking around. I did some shorts as well, so check out YouTube, you can see some of my snippets from yesterday. I love New York City. Um, the main focus of the Inspired Life is sketching architecture I love to sketch things. It's awesome. It's a great tool for brainstorming, creativity, problem solving. Thanks for saying hello, I appreciate the greetings. Nice blue sky today. So what else am I thinking of? So the first thing we talked about was we're always constantly looking down whether we're walking or not, looking down at our devices, our phones. So remind yourself to look up, look straight ahead. Um, there's a dirt bike in the woods here. That is, that is one— so I have nothing against people riding dirt bikes, that's cool, but riding it in a nice park setting is really annoying, if I may say so. There's like a time and place for all that kind of stuff, and I think a nice quiet park setting isn't really the place. Anyway, I digress, and my dog doesn't like it, so she's going to pull me out of here fast. Hey, you guys saying hi in the chat, I see a couple names. Appreciate you all, thank you so much. Yeah, my, my pup does not like the dirt bike, so she is trying to make an exit now out of the park. All right guys, I think we're gonna wrap that up. It was just a quick kind of walk and talk.
