Friday Night Sketch & Chill

Architect and CAD teacher Jason Nicholas does a live collage on stream, mixing watercolor, acrylic ink, torn paper, and a hot-glue gun while talking about creative flow and intention over outcome. He reads from Meditations on Nature, chats with regulars, and finishes a piece blending abstract paintings with heart motifs and personal symbols.

Hey, happy Friday, February 13th. Friday the 13th. This will not be a spooky, creepy live stream. I guarantee that. We'll do some cool, sketchy, not sketchy in a bad way. We'll do some cool sketching and crafty stuff. Oh, my gosh. I said crafty. Yes. Thank you for joining me. I'm Jason with the inspired life. Stay tuned. We're gonna do. We're gonna do something I haven't really. I've never done on a live stream. So, yeah, let me just click this button here. We'll get rocking. Boom. Hope you're having a good Friday today. So if you don't know who I am, my name is Jason. I am an architect, a high school teacher. I teach architecture and cad. Actually, CAD ts Creativity and Design Technology Studio. It's a mouthful. It's basically. I like to think of it almost as like a kind of a product design class, which is so much fun to teach. I love sketching, guys. I love sketching architecture for many reasons. I love sketching. It's a great way to capture a moment in time. Sketching is a great tool for changing my state of mind. It could calm me down, it could ramp me up. It's a great way to get creative flow going, brainstorming, just connecting your heart and your brain and soul to the world around you. So some of the reasons I love sketching. So thank you for joining me tonight. And we're going to do something different tonight. I have a book here. Hey, Gigi, Great to see you. Great to see you. Always great to see you. I appreciate you in the live stream. We're going to do something a little different tonight. I just got this book this week and it's really cool. We're going to take a quick look at it and actually I read something, a quote in here. I think it's a quote that will going to inspire what's going to happen. If you look at my. My setup, it's chaotic and this is how it usually looks. Usually I'm zoomed in. You don't see all of it. And I have scraps of old drawings here. Here's something you have not seen me use on a live stream. What? What the heck? Yeah, I have a hot glue gun here. We. I. We're gonna. I'm gonna say the C word. The C word. Collage. I think we're gonna collage something tonight. Um, we'll see. I'm ready to go. I do have the gun, the glue. Glue. Glue gun out. See that really fast. Glue gun. Glue Gun, glue gun. It's hard to say. Fast scraps this book. Watercolor, paints, my sketchbook, pens, markers, music, and you guys. Hey, Becky. Great to see you. Hope all's well. Becky's in the chat. All right, so let's zoom in a little bit. I just want to give you an overview of the kind of chaos here. We're going to call it Creative Chaos. CC Creative chaos. Not Gigi. Cece, let me zoom in, and then we'll get rocking. So hope you're having a great day today. Happy, happy Friday to you all. And it's good to be here. And I kind of think I'm gonna start doing my streams a little bit earlier because I've been going to bed way too late, and I want to get to bed early tonight because I am. I'm super excited. I will be at the Met tomorrow in New York City. I'm doing some sketching, so I haven't been to the city in a few weeks because of the crazy cold weather and snow, but I am getting out there tomorrow. It's gonna be awesome. All right, so here's a cool book. It's called Meditations on Nature. Meditations on Silence, edited by Roderick Maciver. I love that name. MacGyver. The artwork you see in here is all his very loose watercolor types of paintings. And there's a lot of. Well, here's a. How beautiful that is. I love, love, love this book. And I just got it. I haven't really looked at it. I have another book that he edited back here. I have this one as well, Thoreau and the Art of Life, which I've had for a while, and love this book as well. And there might be some overlap in the two, and that's cool with me. Anyway, here's what I want to do. I marked a page in this book. I just happened to open up to this earlier today, and I thought it'd be cool to inspire what we're going to do tonight. So here's the painting. Look how cool that is. These are my favorite kinds of trees. I love birch trees. I love white birch trees. It's probably another word for them, but I know them as white birch trees. Really beautiful. And here's what. I'll read it. Here's what we're. This quote is going to just inspire what we do tonight. We'll see what happens. This is totally playful in the creative sandbox tonight. Cutting paper, gluing stuff, painting, sketching, coloring. We'll see where it goes. Anyway, here's the quote. Love all the earth, every ray of God's light, Every grain of sand or blood, blade of grass, every living thing. If you love the earth enough, you will know the divine mystery. I fear with Valentine's Day coming up. In love, right? Obviously, you know, we think of Valentine's Day for loving people, and that's huge. I think every day should be Valentine's Day. We should always show our love and appreciation. And we have Earth Day as well. But, yeah, why? Just a reminder to love the world around you. So I think that's really cool. So I'm gonna kind of use that message of just loving the earth, and let's just do some creating, guys. I don't know where we're gonna head, but play around. Hey, Jeff's in the house. Jeff says we love chaos. Good to see you. We do love. We love chaos. I love creative chaos. All right, again, this is what I have out here. These are scraps from other paintings I've done. You may have seen them on past shows. You may recognize some of these pieces from things. And let me just grab. You know what? I don't even know if I'm going to use scissors. I might just rip. Get some torn edges on these. I'm not even going to use scissors tonight. I'm just going to tear this. I love these kind of torn edges. I love the way the paper just pulls away in layers. So we're going to go with that. Unplanned, Unrehearsed. I think before I throw this glue stuff down, I want to add some background color on this. I'm going to use acrylics, I think, because it'll dry quick. And I happen to have blue and yellow here, so we'll go with these. And I just gotta remember not to burn myself on the hot glue gun. Whoa. All right, we're gonna throw that down. I'm literally gonna just now throw some of this on here. We're just throwing colors down, guys. Let's see what happens. I don't even think I'm gonna use a brush. I think I'm gonna take this scrap. It's kind of a. Just tear it up a little bit more, and we'll just kind of move the paint around. Just gonna put the ones like floor heater things over here. I'm gonna put that on maybe to help dry things a little quicker. All right, cool. So bear with me. This may be a few minutes of watching paint dry, literally, but, you know, I'm gonna do. I'm gonna multitask while I'm letting That dry. Since I'm going to nyc, I will do a torch sketch that I can bring with me. Where's my. Here it is. So we're gonna multitask. I'll work work on a torch sketch while we're waiting for paint to dry. A little bit of this, a little bit of that. And I like to take out a reference here that I can kind of look at. I need more workspace. And if you guys run out of room at home, do you find that you have all these? Your flat surfaces are taken, and there's nowhere to put anything. Welcome to my world. I have nowhere to put anything. All right, let's break out a Sharpie. Feel free to leave questions, comments. I'll be checking in the chat as we go through. Put this here so it dries. It's. And tonight's current musical selection is Soundgarden. A little bit of spoon man going on right now. Love me some Soundgarden. You guys have a really. Hope you're having an awesome Friday. Weather. Seems like it's warming up a little bit. I think it got up to 40 here today, so that's good. I'll take it. So I love doing these torch sketches. They're fun for me to give out when I'm out and about. I think I gave one or two out while I was in Paris. That was fun, especially since they kind of gave us the Statue of Liberty. I've given a bunch out in nyc. I'll probably hit up my favorite donut place, check in, check in, see if the guys are there that I know giving some torch to them. Shake Shack. Give a torch to random people. Cool. All right, so we got a torch happening, And we'll throw down some acrylic marker. Sorry, guys. You might notice I move the paper around a lot when I'm sketching. I'd rather move the paper in different positions than kind of twist and contort my hand. I am not a contortionist. Try to put me in, like, a little box, I'll snap in half. So I don't want to. Same thing with, like, you know, I don't want to have to bend and sketch. I'd rather just move the paper. All right, let me throw some orange. I'll check in the chat. Say hello, Guys. We're at 992. Eight more people to go. Eight more subscribers, and we got the 1K. I think we're gonna do a 1K sketch giveaway. When we hit 1,000 subscribers, I think maybe we'll do, like, a random Drawing and I'll give away a sketch. How fun would that be? So we'll do the 1k sketch giveaway. I'm not sure what sketch it'll be yet. Maybe I'll offer a choice. Or maybe I'll just be like, yo, enjoy this lovely torch. Do you think that's a cool idea? Would you guys be down for a 1k sketch giveaway? I just like saying it. It sounds really cool. 1k sketch giveaway. Looking for yellow. Yellow. Where the heck is my yellow? Here it is. Alright, let's throw some yellow on here. I'll check in and then we'll pull out the collage thingy. And if it's not dry, we'll. We'll keep torching. All right, cool. All right, let's throw some contour lines just to kind of give this a curvy look, like we're looking up at the bottom of this tor. Sorry, I have to lip sync some of this. I can't help myself. So I'm not. It looks like I'm chewing gum or something. I'm just lip syncing to the music. All right, cool. I like this torch. All right, let's check in the chat and see what's going on there. And I weather. Oh, you know, I don't think I have the weather. I gotta set up the eye weather. Eye rule thing. I don't have that set up yet in the chat. Thanks for putting that in there. Hey, Jen's in the house. Great to see you. Yeah, let's see. Hey, Chip's in the house. Chip, great to see you. Hope all's well, man. We're gonna hit. Okay, Go back to the collage. Enjoying the book? That's awesome, Chip. I talked about the book at the beginning. There's a quote in there that's gonna inspire the madness that's about to happen. Very cool. Best song today. The best song today. What's all your best song today, everybody? Best song today. My best song I'm listening to right now because it. You may have noticed when I. Have you noticed how my sketching speed changed when this song came on that I'm listening to right now. I totally picked up the pace of my pen work. And that song is outshined by Soundgarden. It's on right now. I love that song. Outshined is my best song of the day. What about you guys? Oh, yeah. Chris o'. Connell. He. Chris Cornell. Sorry, Chris Cornell, yeah. From Soundgarden. What a sad loss to the music world. He. He might be my favorite. Definitely One of my favorite male vocalists. I love, love, love the sound of his voice. So incredible. Call it even, France. That's right, Jeff. They got their. They got their torch back. They got their sketch of a torch. That's funny. That's awesome. All right, cool. I think this torch might be cool for now. Not really. One more thing, then we're gonna pull out the other one. See how it's drying. I'm trying to build up temptation or suspense. Is it working? We got a yay. We got. With your autograph. Yes. Yeah, I will. I will Definitely sign the 1k sketch giveaway. I'll sign my name. That'll be so fun. 100%. It's got to be like us mailing, though, because I. I think if I had to mail overseas, it'd be very expensive. Yeah. I like putting red on top of the yellow here. I just like that color combo. You can see really good up here as well. Obviously, red over yellow. Would you get orangey colors with. I just like that layer effect of those colors here. I'm going to hold it close so you can see just really kind of scratchy lines. Scribbly lines. Right. I think. I think this is kind of where the music kicked in, and my brain in my hand just picked up speed. And it shows. It really shows in the lines. I keep thinking Muppet, Muppets when I see the yellow hands or Simpsons. The yellow hands. I don't know. All right, cool. All right, let's pull out the other thing. This looks cool. Let's sign this. Going to sign it with red. We're going to put B and shout out to Chip if you're still there. Chip inspired this. Be the light that I like to put on my torches. He is a light in my life. This man is amazing. So thank you, Chip, for inspiring the saying on here. All right. And there we go. Be the light. Which one do you guys like better? Poll time. I wish I could put up a poll. I don't know how to do that. I don't think I can do that on ecamm. Which one do you like better? A. We'll call it one and two. One, two. Curious. Which sketch do you guys like better? One, two. Put your votes in now. One or two. While I drink some cold coffee. Can we just celebrate? 1k. Yeah. 1k. Becky. That's gonna be amazing. Oh, my pup is doing awesome. Thank you for asking. She's doing amazing. Yeah, I've been a. It's been a pretty busy day. I haven't spent too much Time with her, but thank you for asking. One, two. All right. Jen says two, Gigi says one. The fun thing about these sketches, they're never the same twice. I don't try to do Xerox copies. Some are wonky, more wonkier than others. The flames always different. Everything. The hands always different. Colors are always different, and that's what's fun. So I think this has kind of become my signature sketch, is the torch followed closely by the Brooklyn Bridge as prime. My second. Oh, one's winning so far. We got. Gigi says one, and Becky says one. If you guys don't mind, just put in a chat. Why? Tell me, why are you picking these? What do you like about one over two? And what do you like about two over one? It's really good feedback for me. Just curious, what's connecting you? What's resonating with you about these? And while you're doing that, I'm going to pull out the other sketch. Becky, you remember Becky, you remember this? Becky, look, look. Look at my cup. I don't want to spill the coffee. Becky knows who this character is, and it says, sketch happens. Sketch happens. We got. I haven't drawn my. I haven't drawn this pup in a long time. Jeff's. I can't decide. That's fair. That's fair. Oh, Winston Chen was over on Instagram. I wish he would have said, hi, man. Winston, if you're still out there. Hello. All right, here we go. It's. It's kind of dryish, although I got some on my fingers. You know what? It's okay. We're going to move forward with it. All right, so put this here. What's that? Where's that book? We'll read that line again. This book's going to get a lot of love in. It's already got paint. Paint on it. And I took the bookmark out. Here it is. All right, so here's this made me think of, you know, Valentine's Day, about love. Love of people, love. Love of life. This happens to be love. Well, here you go. Love all the earth, Every ray of God's light, every grain of sand or blade of grass. Every living thing. If you love the earth enough, you will know the divine mystery. Oh, I didn't think I said the name before. This is by. How do you say that, Fyodor? Oh, is this. How do you say. Oh, you guys. Dosteveski, from the Brothers Kara. I am butchering the name. The Brothers Karamazov. Yeah, War and Peace, right? Is this the Same author of War and Peace. Dostoevesky. I'm sorry, I'm saying the name wrong. I apologize. Dois de veski. All right, all right. Let's go back to the collage here. I have never collaged live. I haven't really collaged much at all in my art life. Let's glue some stuff down. Got this cool glue gun that's just calling my name. Right now. We're listening to some shinedown. If you only knew. Love this song. I just want to get some those hard edges off there and kind of free form it. There we go. Let's glue it down. This has another side, but you know what? I like this side. Come on. Glue. Oh, it'd be nice if I had another glue stick in there. Let's put another glue stick in. This is actually the first time I'm using this glue gun. Shout out to Michaels for their coupons. There we go. I don't know. Well, it's going to stick to the wet paint. I appreciate the rawness of two. Oh, yeah, Love that. Good comment. Chip says great quote. Thanks, Chip. More yellow and orange makes you happy. Okay, so this is more happy. Happy vibes. Cool. I love your. Here's what I love. I love you are what you're saying these descriptive words. Rawness, happy vibes. So art should make you feel something, right? Just like architecture. Whenever you walk into a building, walk into a space or see a building, it should connect with you on some kind of emotional level, which means it's doing its job. Why isn't this glue gun? Am I not? Anybody know how to use a glue gun? I'm just kidding. I know how to use one. But why is nothing coming out of this? There we go. Just have to get this thing started. There we go. Yes. And, Becky, I saw you wrote retro. That dog you saw in the cup, that is retro. Retro is a character I would sketch at the end of my live streams. I would sketch the. The Whistling Cowboy in retro. So we put on some whistling cowboy music and retro and the Whistling Cowboy would make appearances. So, yeah, Becky remembers retro. This isn't a plug, guys. But if you would do like, if you like that mug, you can actually get it. If you go to Fine Art America, I have stuff on there I'll make. I'll make like a dollar or not. Or not even a dollar if you buy that mug. But I didn't show it for that reason. Retro needs to come back. Again. I am. I'm just throwing on these scraps. I have collage is very therapeutic. Oh, Becky, that's. That's awesome to hear. I miss your retro whistling cowboy sketches. Yeah, it'd be fun to end the shows with them again, wouldn't it? So I would do those sketches because it was a good way for me to practice perspective. Perspective sketching. Hey, Juanita. Great to see you. You're currently working on a junk journal. So far, it's going okay. Love that. That sounds really fun. I love, love, love that. So what kind of stuff goes in a junk journal? It sounds really intriguing to me. Other than just having fun. I had these scraps here. Just wanted to be playful with them. And heck, who doesn't love using a hot glue gun, right? You haven't done perspective in a while. Oh, yeah. Keep watching the inspired life here. And you. I'll be doing. I do perspectives a lot. My quick, loose, wonky perspectives. So stick around and you'll definitely see perspectives at some point. Gigi says, give me Salvador. Salvador Dali vibes. Love collages. Oh, that's cool. Love that. Just want to zoom out so you can get more of an overview of what's happening. You know what? We're going to throw some watercolor down next. I'm feeling some watercolor happening. Let's throw this one down. I don't know where to put this. Let's see. I guess it's going there. I guess it's going there now. Number one, gives pop art vibes, Warhol colors and honing. Simplicity of line. Whoa, that's an. Those are some fancy artists. That's awesome. This was one and two. One, two. Gosh, I love your comments, guys. All right, let's turn on some watercolor. It's hot in here. I'm gonna gotta turn off that heater. I gotta. Hold on a sec, guys. I just gotta take my. I gotta take this off here. It got really hot in here. All right, There we go. All right. Better. All right, let's throw down some paint. And actually was smart and brought a whole roll of paper towels in here. Finally. Hey, Juanita. Awesome. I see you over on. Oh, you're on Instagram. I love that. So cool. Sometimes it could be scraps of paper. Makes art. Been using wrappers from candy, makeup products, and even fruit stickers. That's interesting. That sounds so fun. I do want to prop this up. Whenever I use watercolor, guys, or inks even, I like to prop up my paper I'm sketching on. I love the way the water runs down and puddles up. So I'm just looking for we'll just use this bad boy here at an angle. I just love the way everything runs down the page and puddles up. Just a kind of aesthetic thing I like. All right, can you guys see all that? Let me see. Let's move that so you can actually see that better. All right, cool. Let's do it. I have no idea how this is going to turn out, but that's the fun. I. Let's talk about creative intentions. Creative intentions. I believe in setting intentions for a lot of things. Intention is, you know, kind of an outcome that I'm hoping for, and it's not a specific image in my brain or. What am I trying to say? Intention. Well, I'll just say my intention for tonight was to be playful with something I've never or rarely done, and that's collaging. That is. My only intention, is to have fun playing around with a different media. I don't know what the outcome is. I'm not pre planning it. I'm just kind of embracing the process. So that is my intention. If we set creative intentions, it kind of gives us some guide rails without. Without a pre. Expected. Is that the word? Predetermined? Exact finished product. So, for example, if I'm sketching the Brooklyn Bridge, I might say, okay, my intention with this sketch of the bridge is I want to capture the busyness of all the cable wires on it. That's it. That's my goal. The busy feeling. I'm not trying to replicate, duplicate. Make an exact copy of what I'm seeing, but just the vibe of the. The busyness of the cables. So that's kind of a pro tip. Set creative intentions rather than final expectations. Set creative intentions rather than final expectations. And that's one way it allows me to keep kind of loose and be playful with it and not get upset with myself because I forgot to put that window in the sketch or I missed that bolt bolts, or I forgot to add that piece of wood or detail. I hope that makes sense. So someone said they like vibrant, bright colors. So I'm throwing some orange on here, And you can see how the water's things are kind of dripping down the page. And that's cool. Cool with me. We're gonna go for some lemon zest here. I call this. I don't know if it's lemon yellow. I call it lemon yellow, which I'm running out of in here, And I'm painting with very dirty water. And then, Jen, this one is for you. If you're out there, Jen, I'm going To use some taxi. I call it Taxi Cab Yellow. Taxicab Yellow. So what sound effect. What sound effect would go with Taxi Cab Yellow? I need some dark. Need some dark blue here. I like to do. I like to do wet on wet. Watercolor and ink techniques a lot where I'm putting kind of wet colors on top of other wet colors. I like the way they run together. All right, let's see. All right, you know what? I want to do some splatter on here. What color? Guys, you're gonna think I'm insane, but I'm gonna splatter some. Some reflex rose on here, essentially like a neon pink. We're just gonna splatter on here and see what happens. Warning. Warning. This is the part of the show where you might want to put your poncho on. That's right. Put your poncho on now, because we don't know where this acrylic ink is going to splatter. So if you are sitting in the Shamu splash zone, prepare to get wet. You guys know the Shamu Splash Zone? Sea World, you like to sit in the first 20 rows. You're going to get soaked when the whale jumps out of the water and lands back in. So this is kind of like the Shamu splash zone. I can't get that cap off. There we go. Oh, man. Whenever I say sketch boldly, this is what I mean. Just be bold. Go for it. I don't want to do this. I want to put it into. Splatter it. So let me put some of this acrylic on. Scrap. Use a scrap here. That's plenty. And I'm literally going to just. I don't have a. Sometimes I use a toothbrush. I don't have one here. So I'm going to take this brush and just flick it on. Wish me luck. All right, loading this up. We're just going to do it. I don't want to get too crazy. Maybe I'm already past that point. Oh, my gosh. Well, remember this Statue of Liberty sketches I showed you earlier? Just say one of them is wearing some. Some reflex rose right now. Yeah, I didn't think that one through. It's all good. And we'll just take some of this and throw it. Cool. Oh, there's something really cool happening in this corner. I'll show you in a sec. And actually, there's some really, really cool things happening here. I'm liking the acrylic. The watercolor on top of the acrylic, because the watercolor is not sticking on the Acrylic, and it's showing through. Let me just show you here. Let's get into a kind of zoom mode here. Zoom in. So check this out right up in here, right in this section. Let me see. Can you see that? Okay. I love the colors happening here. Kind of that green showing through the orange. It has a really rusty color. So when I do my industrial vibe sketching, this is a color palette I would. You would see in that type of sketch. So all those colors, Boom. You can see some of that splatter close up. This is gonna look cool. This is gonna look cool framed. Let's just do this. Zoom in. Hope you guys are enjoying this. Let me know. I appreciate it. A little bit of different show tonight. Just exploring creativity in a different way. Right? Check this out. Oh, yeah. This is kind of cool. So here's here. Is this all right? I'm getting excited. I'm getting excited. Here's what I'm loving about this. You can see it better now that I have it kind of framed. I am loving what is happening right in here. Those colors for me are a sweet spot of my color palette that I love. Really, really, really fun. Very, very cool. I love the way this is drying. Right? This could be a mini painting here. Got it, got it, got it. This is even better. Check this out. I got my little mini frames. Yes, yes. Look at this, dudes. This. Did I just say dudes? Dudes. This looks right. So we had that thing about the Earth, that quote I read. I am. I am stretching this here, but I am seeing part of a sphere, a globe, an earth here, orange sun. Right. I don't know if you guys see the vibe. I'll let it sit here for a sec. Just gonna get a little more yellow in it. Yeah, let's bring it over there. Even, actually. Even look at this. This one here, I'm seeing. I'm seeing maybe a lily or something here. Maybe a swampy area lily. And these bright pink pops of color. Could be some kind of flowers or something happening in here. Yeah, no, maybe. Or even maybe it's a very abstract cherry blossom thing happening here. Same abstract piece. We are. We've just found two really cool mini paintings in there. This is stuff that fires me up, guys. I am so fired right now. Yeah. Wowzers. Let's see what else we can find. Even look at this, right? Wow. Let me look through some comments. Let me catch up on the comments and see what you guys are saying. If I miss any comments, I apologize. Guys. Gallagher. I see Gallagher. Yeah, Gallagher. You need to put your poncho on. And I should go get my. My sledgehammer and my watermelon. That'll be a different live stream. That'll be the 4th of the 4th of July live stream. Yeah. Hot Becky says hot pinks are your signature. Yeah, Becky, you know, you know me. And you can even see on this torch here, right? We got some pink on there. But when I use it, I use it very sparingly because if you put too much, it just takes away from it. This isn't like a Barbie painting. Barbie. Barbie would be mad at me because I don't have enough pink. Sorry, Barbie. But just enough to give some interest. And you can see where I got some splatter on here from. It doesn't ruin this at all. Actually. Actually looks cool. Cool on there. Don't forget the water rides where it splashes everyone. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Right. If you guys go to the amusement parks, the log flume rides, right? What else we got in here? What else could we find? Are you guys digging? Are you digging what I'm saying? This definitely use more layers of paper on it. Yeah, not so much there. Maybe. Maybe that one. That's a nice touch. Thank you. We officially have new pink freckles. Yes, we do. I love freckles. It's lovely pink. It is dang. Really pro. Jason. Hey, thanks. I am definitely not. I am not a professional artist. Like, I didn't like. I never went to school for artwork. You know what? This. I think the secret is just creating from your heart and just have fun doing it. Our calorie worthy. Oh, I don't know about that, but thank you. Nice color scheme. Yeah. Thanks, guys. Very cool. Any requests? Anybody have requests? All right, let's try something fun as well. Tonight we're being really playful. Any suggestions of something you want me to add on here? I'm not going to say I'm going to do it 100%, but if you want to throw down a couple ideas in the chat, maybe something you want me to add on here or something you'd like to see based on what I have on available here. So I used to see the watercolors. Creative Markers, Sharpie. Let me know and we'll keep rocking on this. Yeah, this is fun. This is my favorite part right here. I've been eyeing up this one here, guys. I've been eyeing up this scrap. Let's see if we can make this. Get this on here somewhere. I don't know if they even take a sip of this. I'm skipping this. Let's see. Nirvana, Metallica, Oasis. I have not listened to Bittersweet Symphony today yet. So there we go. It's on right now. All right, let's tear this one up. I am making a mess, but that's fun. I think I just tore a heart. I just saw a little heart shape on here. I just tore. You see, guys, See that little heart there? It's kind of cute. It. Oop. I think I just tore the heart in half. That was not a nice thing to do. Your Valentine's Day. 80K. All right, I'm going to do the randomizer game. I am flipping this around, not looking at it. I'm going to spin it around. It's going to orient it like this somewhere. Gonna put glue on it. So we're just gonna totally randomize where this goes. So it's gonna go down here somewhere. Maybe you're like, right in here. We'll put it. Oh, I'm gonna cover up that. I don't want to cover that up. I'm cheating. I'm not fully randomizing it. Yeah, we'll do something like that. I just. Because I like this piece here. We'll put it like that. Jason, I was in the art gallery last weekend, and the. That piece is worthy. Really? Are you serious? Jen? Wow. You are. That's awesome. Thank you for saying that. That's so cool. I'm waiting for the punch line. Was it. Was it like a. Was it like a finger paint kind of show? Nothing wrong with that. Actually, finger painting sounds fun, doesn't it? Oh, that sounds a lot of. That sounds amazing. Like. All right, cool. So here you go, adding some layers. Let's glue some more layers. We'll add a little more watercolor. 930. You know, here's the funny thing about tonight. I actually said. I actually have my phone here. And I said, you know what? I'm gonna put a timer on for 30 minutes. Do you think I set the timer? No, I did not. Hey, Marie, if you're still on. Great to see you over on Instagram. That was so cool, guys. We had our friend Merit, Hopefully, I'm saying, right, Merit Marie, who is awesome. I was over on the Insta. That's fun. Broken heart. Yes. Yeah, I know. I broke. I broke that paper's heart. You know what? Let's just. Let's just say if I didn't get that paper cut, maybe we'd still be together. Darn that paper. Sorry I had to break your heart. I saw retro somewhere in the comments. Oh, Becky says you could add retro. Yeah. You know what? Maybe retro. Make a little. Should we do a little retro on the corner? We'll see. Maybe. Maybe we'll save a little spot for retro. That'd be cool. Mountain Kerr. I think I wrote that in the other show one. Right now. Let's put this on here. What do you think, guys? Am I going overboard now? Oh, this is. Hold on. Before I cover anything up, check this out. I like the way this is drying down here. Where's my little frame? Mini frame. Mini frame time. Check this out down here. Look at those colors. How cool is that? I don't know why, but I just saw a dragonfly somehow dragonfly shape in here. Those colors are pretty fun. Oh, I love this. Oh, my gosh. I gotta get closer. Check out the little square here. Do you. Can you guys see? Check out this little kind of red. I think the lights kind of. Oh, do we have a heart. One of the cool things about doing, like, abstract thing is rotate your paper, rotate your sketchbook, rotate your page. You might see different things popping out at you as you rotate. I see a dog wearing a backpack or a cape. Guys, I gotta get the tracing paper. I'm gonna pull out the shape I'm seeing right now. Holy moly. Where's my trace paper? Architects always have trace paper. It's in our blood. Here we go. I have yellow. Where's my white trace paper? All right, here we go. Got some white paper. All right. Here's a kind of shape. Weird shape I'm seeing. Let me just get a thick Sharpie so I can pull this out. Nope, I want mega sharpie. I'll just use this. I just saw, like, a. An abstract dog here. Or maybe that's Grogu. Any Star wars fans out there? Looks kind of like Yoda or Grogu ears, but this is the shape I'm trying to pull out. I'm going to turn that into, like, a tail. Got a dog kind of doing. Some kind of, like, abstract dog head. And then I saw a backpack thing here. So maybe we're looking at the back of a dog. That looks like a kangaroo dog. It's a kanga dog. Anyway, I saw this kind of weird animal shape in this. Cool dragon. I see the word dragon represents my Valentine's Day. What the kanga dog? Kanga dog represents her Valentine's Day. Are you gonna. Are you going to the zoo? That'd be fun. That'd be so cool. Ooh, looking good. Hey, thank you, Juanita. It's Cuz. I did my hair. No, I'm just kidding. I'm kidding. I. I know what you're talking about. 100%. Looks like a stuffed animal, maybe elephant. Oh, see, I love that you guys are starting to look at this and see things. That's fun. That means you're connecting. I have your attention. That's my secret. That's what makes this fun, having you guys involved and using your imaginations. Love this. And I move my trash can over there. All right, cool. Let's throw this on here. Then we're throw a little bit more color, I think watercolor. Yeah. I'm going to put this on there. Why not? Quiz time. What is my. What is my creative intention tonight? Put in the chat. What is my creative intention tonight? Let's see who's paying attention out there in inkling land. I also have all these little scraps, but nothing speaking to me right now. This was kind of speaking to me, this piece. Oh, yeah, I know where this is going. All right, I'm gonna glue this down. We'll throw some more color on there. Oh, thanks for joining me on my first ever collage livestream. And it's probably only the second or third. Third collage I've ever done in my life. So I'm just kind of being bold and having fun with it, and I feel like I'm in a positive community where I can just kind of go for it. All right, should I get cheesy and try to tear out a heart shape here? All right, we're gonna. We're going. We're going to cheese factor here. Cheese mode. Oh, that does not look like a heart yet. Purposely not using scissors because I like the rough edge of the paper, the way it looks. Scissor would be so much easier to cut it out. Starting to look like a heart, kind of. Can you guys see it? Hey, there you go. What do you guys think? Heart. We go. There we go. I think that works. What do you think? Where should we put it? All right, if you guys are watching on YouTube, I'd love for you to hit that, like, button. Give me that thumbs up. That would be amazing. Let's get this out there. We at 992. 992 subscribers. 1K is not that far away. And I swear that it wasn't me who was number 992. No, it really wasn't. All right, cool. So we got this cool heart. Where should we put it? Maybe down here by my pup's name here. Let's see here. I Think I kind of like it up top. Maybe over here. Pink batman. This the dark knight. I am Batman. Sorry. Let's see. Let me go back and look at some comments. Wait. It looks like a duck. Somewhat. Are you seeing ducks in this? That's so cool. There are no wrong answers. The form of an animal might exist in another planet. Yes, it is. Is the Grogu Kanga Pup duck. Something like that. You guys are so funny. Love it. I see anger and hope. Anger and hope. I love that. It's very contrasting. Very, very contrasting words. Right? Anger. Hope. Yeah, maybe my. I'm not really angry about anything, but maybe I'm channeling my inner. Who the heck knows to try new things. Yeah, Becky, I just want to try. Right? Exactly. You. You got it. That was my intention. Right. Try this new collage thing and just have fun. Do it. Doing it. He took a piece of broken heart to make a little full one. Oh, that's so sweet. I love that. That's so cool. Yeah. I don't know. My gut is telling me to put it up here, so I think it's going to go up there. Let's just glue it. Stop thinking about it. Just do it. Time. Is it 9:42. I'm having so much fun, guys. Especially burning my finger. That is. That is the fun part of the night. Ouch. The hot glue gun. You know what they call it? A hot glue gun and hot glue for a reason, apparently. Okay, I wouldn't change the song. I need something. You guys know this song? I think Jeff mentioned Batman, so now I'm gonna play this song. I could go for the Danny Elfman Batman theme, which I love. Love. But you know what? We're gonna go for this one right here. Who's the Batman from the Batman Lego Movie? The song. All right, let's throw down a little more color. And I think. I think I got enough collage papery stuff on there. Unless there's any interesting scraps I want to use. Negative, negative, negative, negative. I was eyeing up this one, but no, I kind of like this one. Kind of has like a wood. Looks like a wood texture. See that? This kind of wood. Wood texture. I think we'll use that somewhere. Got another one. We'll just take one. All these scraps. Holy cow. I tore all this up. I didn't realize I tore all this up. All right. I don't see any other scraps I'm going to use, so we'll just glue this one down. We'll add some watercolor or. Yeah, we'll use watercolor. I want to use watercolor because I want it. I want a fairly transparent kind of color on here. So the watercolor is awesome for that transparency. Let me just throw these out. Okay, Let's throw this kind of woodsy piece down somewhere. Oh, this could be a. Right now, I'm not gonna get that cheesy. I was gonna tear this into the shape of a bird. Kind of looks like a bird. Maybe a bat. You had to say Batman. I was doing so good until I heard Batman. Now I can't stop thinking about it. All right, this is the last thing we're going to glue on here. Just going to cover that corner like that. All right, guys. It's looking pretty cool. We're in a home, home, home stretch. Oh, that's a cute heart. I'm just reading random comments here. The day that I met you at ggnyc, you guys are saying nice things. Keep going. Thanks. What kind of. What kind of coffee are you having? Yeah, I probably shouldn't be drinking coffee. So it's cold coffee right now. Do you guys know Levain? Levaine Bakery, nyc? Levain. So this coffee is something they sell at Levain. I can't think of the name of it. Am I hyper? I don't think I'm. Caffeine doesn't really affect me, guys. It's really. I'm all hyped up because of this. Creativity can really have that effect on me. It could hype me up or slow me down. It's hyping me up tonight. That's funny. Funny that you said that. Just break up some color here. I apologize. I was mistaken. The anger interpretation, really. There is no mistaking any interpretations. If you see anger, that's awesome. I love that you guys see or not only see, but you feel different things when you're looking at this or any artwork. That's amazing. Yeah, it's good to feel. To feel these things right? This is a cool paint palette. I've had this for a long time. Windsor Newton. What I like about it is this comes out. Check this out, guys. This is like a little water thingy. So you can put water in there, but you could also put your thumb and hold it like this. How cool is that? So this is fun to take when I do some urban sketching. It's just really convenient to hold. Apparently, at the Met, you can only sketch in pencil. A lot of museums, galleries have rules about sketching, and I could see why they don't want anybody with markers or paint or, you know, pencil God forbid, gets on something, you can get it off fairly easily. So I don't really like sketching with a pencil, but so it'll be tomorrow. Another intention for me, create with a pencil. That's all I'm going to try to do, see what happens. Will I bring my Sharpie? Of course. Will I bring some pens? Of course. Nothing says I can't, you know, add that stuff after. Cool. I will add a couple more things and we'll zoom in, do a close up, and then we'll wrap it up. I think I can turn off the glue gun. Turn this thing off. Does it actually turn off? No. What the heck? So the only way I could turn this off is by unplugging it. That's a stinky design. I guess. I guess it's a good safety mechanism, right? To be. Have to unplug the hot glue gun to turn it off. I don't know. I don't know who came up with it. I'm going to punch some orange in here, brighten it up a little. I don't know what color. So if my brain's starting to think too much about what I want to add and I start trying to plan, that's usually a sign for me that it's time to stop working on it. Because this isn't about planning. It's just about grab and go. Flow, grab and go with the flow. Creativity. All right, I see another. Oh, it's got paint on me. I see another mini painting here. We'll look at that in a few. You know what? I really want to pop on here. All right, we're done with the watercolor. Bye. Bye. Foreign itching to throw some of this on here. Let's wrap with this. How many times I say. I was saying that in school today. I have a couple students that watch me live stream sometimes. And they were mentioning, and they're correct that I always say I'm going to wrap up. And then an hour goes by and I didn't wrap up yet. So it's a good call. But I'm like, guys, I'm. That's because I'm in the flow. State of flow. Sometimes it's hard to shut down. Yeah, I just want to throw some of this here. And we're gonna throw a little touch of yellow. The man says as he. I gotta be careful. This yellow likes to. Let's see. I just want to throw a little bit on here. There we go. All right. Do you have any final questions, comments? Put them in the chat. We'll look at them together before we wrap up. There we go. I wanted to punch some really. A little bit of brighter yellow on there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's what we're talking about. I kind of want some up here, too. All right, we're done. And we're done putting it down. All right, I think this one's a wrap. Let me look in the comments, see what's going on in there. And then we'll look at this, we'll put some frames around it, and we'll call it a day. Did you ever watch Batman Forever? Oh, yeah, I've seen Batman Forever. Batman Forever is one with Mr. Freeze, right? Schwarzenegger. Yeah. Not my favorite one. It's very different. They're. They're trying to be very comic booky with it, which I get the whole kind of way off the chart humor and colors. I'm a huge fan of The Batman, the TV show from 1966. The campy kind of show. Yeah. But it. The one with Schwarzenegger was super cheesy. Just my personal opinion. What are you? I'm Batman. Yeah, I'm Batman. Looks like a little house. Oh, you saw a house in here somewhere? That's cool. They don't want pink freckles everywhere. Oh, I'm not gonna ask. Hope you say that. Remember us every time you look at it. Yes. Brushes are down. Hey, John. Have a great night. Take care. I appreciate you. Thank you for tuning in. You're awesome. All right, guys, let's do the final look here. I'm going to pull out two plus maybe two things on here, and then that'll be it. So back to this. I really, really am liking this still in this corner. I think that's amazing. Very, very cool. I like the heart up there. It's cool. You know, this is kind of a cool little mini painting. Maybe there's water and a mountain. Pink sunset in that view. Possibly. We'll just pan this way. I kind of like what's happening with this edge up here, Guys. I'm actually seeing. I'm seeing another heart rate in here. That's so funny. I almost see a heart shape here. You see that curve, the white, then the other edge. Use your imagination. You can almost see a heart happening. I could pull it out if I wanted to and add some lines, but I'm not going to here. So it's kind of a heart shape. This is the one I said was like another kind of mini painting. I almost see, like, a beach. The water, A beach. Maybe some sand castles on the beach. Kind of here. In here. Do you see that? So it was water. Me washing onto a beach with some sandcastles. Pretty cool, right? Thank you, Gigi. I appreciate you watching. Thank you so much for tuning in. Paint palette looked like a little house before you took off the holder. Oh, that's so cool. Good observation. All right, guys, I think that's a wrap for tonight. I appreciate all so, so much. Thank you for joining me on tonight's kind of mysterious, crazy, crazy chaotic collage collision creativity channel. I'm trying to use all C's. It didn't work. Appreciate all so, so much. Until our paths cross again, sketch boldly. First of all, thank you guys for watching. If I didn't say that. Appreciate y'. All. Till we meet again. Sketch boldly. Live creatively, and inspire endlessly. See you soon.
