Jason Nicholas walks with his dog while sketching bridges and talking about how spaces shape creativity. He's fascinated by bridges for their beauty and symbolism, recently visited the Sagrada Família, and plans to sketch live later that evening.

Anything exciting going on? Anything fun? That sounds cool. That sounds really cool. Yeah, I'm, uh, just out taking my quick walk. I wanted to go live and, um, just a little hike and mic and just talk off the top of my head. So nothing planned, and I don't know where we'll go with our chat, but let's just do a little hike and mic. And, um, nice location today. Let's get the camera. I love this spot. So nice here, so peaceful. And it's a cool bridge. Let's— let me show you the cool bridge over here. There you go. We got a really cool bridge up there, and, um, as you know, I love sketching bridges. And for me, bridges are a few— a few of the reasons I love bridges. One is they're just, you know, their architectural and engineering beauty. Another reason I love bridges are their functionality, right, to cross over obstacles. And the third reason I love bridges, um, is they're connectors. Bridges are connectors. They connect points A to Z, right? They help us along our journey. So whenever you guys see me sketching a bridge, um, those are the reasons, those are the things that are always in my head as I'm putting pen to paper and sketching them out. So yeah, I thought I just want to share that with you while I'm kind of walking here. Very peaceful, very tranquil. So yeah, so that's one of the reasons I love sketching bridges. I have— have I sketched this one? I think I've sketched that bridge only once, so maybe, uh, on some upcoming live streams I'll be sketching it more. Yeah, just hang with me for a few minutes. I'm just gonna walk and talk, or maybe I'll let nature do the talking. Um, yeah, we'll see how it goes. Does that water taste good? I'm here with my pup. Yeah, she was just at the vet, so we figured we'd get some fresh air. She was just— went for her checkup, so if we get her some fresh air today, that would be good, right? But she's doing good. She had a really good checkup, so that's important. Oh, this way, Liv. You seen a fish in there? You seen a fish today? Any fish? Nope, I don't see any fish today. So yeah, so I'm just kind of walking. We're just enjoying some of the sights and scenes, getting fresh air. Um, it's been a busy day today, busy, busy day, and for— just get some steps in today, right? Why not? So we're going to walk up here a little further, and there's a, um, kind of a stream goes downhill. I love the sound of it. So for me, walking in— part of the walking outside are the sounds that we hear, whether it's the crunching of the gravel or the soon, uh, to be heard stream. Hey Edie, great to see you. Hope you're doing well. So we're going to walk up to the kind of rushing water, and I'm just going to let you guys listen to it. I am going to stop talking and just listen to the water. Hello, Catherine, thank you for joining. Hope you're doing well. I just love that sound, guys. I'd get closer, but my pup is not letting me. She's being— she's being stubborn pup. Oh, there we go. Now we can get closer. Um, while you guys are watching, I just want to say thank you for watching the sketching videos. Sorry, these hiking mics are kind of shaky. I don't— I should bring my gimbal when I walk. I never bring it, so that would make it more stable. But here, let's get closer and let you guys listen to it. Let me get really close. Thank you, Tonito. I would love if you like and subscribe. So this is a small part, part of what I do. I mostly sketch architecture online. A lot of live streams, a lot of video posts. So if you guys are watching this, give me a thumbs up, like, subscribe. I do these hike and Mike talks and mostly architectural urban sketching. It's great to see you guys in the house. Here, so here's a view of that bridge. Um, I'll definitely sketch it, maybe, maybe tonight, we'll see. And then check out this view. I love this view here. There's my pup. She's being very patient. Olivia, thanks for being so patient with me. My pup is 3, just over 3 years old. She is what's called a Mountain Cur, C-U-R. I had no idea what that was until Google helped to identify what she is. She's an amazing pup. But when we're walking and she wants to go a certain way, she, she knows where she wants to go. So, and that's fine because these walks are just about, you know, just as much about for her as they are for me. It's, you know, it's outdoor time, nature time, it's get-together time. And, um, she's a great pup. Let's take a look back at that bridge. Yeah, so they call it a pond. It's basically a reservoir. Good question, Edie. Okay guys, thank you for bearing with me, especially the shaky phone. I don't have a gimbal. I am just walking a dog, walking on gravel up and down hills. I I apologize if the image is shaky. I'm going to start carrying my gimbal with me and just using that for steady images. But, um, we just stopped here on our way home from the vet, and I wasn't planning on doing the livestream, but here we are. All right, let's do a little hiking mic. I'm just going to talk about some stuff, riff about some stuff off the top of my head. Um, Let's see, what's today's hike, Mike, going to be about? Um, what do I want to talk about? Today's a busy, busy day at school. Um, it was Take Your Kids to Work Day, so we had some— a lot of kids in the building. A lot of students were absent, but a lot of faculty members had their kids in school, so it was kind of fun. Different kind of vibe and energy. Um, and maybe we'll talk about energy and environments. So different locations, different environments can really infuse and change our energy and state of mind. Um, if I am in a quiet library, I'm gonna feel a lot different than in the middle of New York City, right? So we can use that to our advantage. I mean You're trying to get yourself in a state of like creativity, state of flow, you know, maybe find that vibe, find that location where maybe your adrenaline flows a little bit, um, to get that motivation, that creativity going. Or, you know, if you just need a moment of silence, go to a quiet place, or just kind of dim the lights in your room, put on some soft music. So we can really use our environments, our physical environment, as a way to change our state of being. As an architect, design— I totally, totally get it. And buildings, think about buildings you go into and how you feel in those buildings. Good architecture can change the way you feel. Incredible architecture can transform you for life. An example for me would be the Familia Sagrada Basilica in Barcelona. That building, I walked in feeling one way and I left a totally different person. That building transformed my entire being. It's such a powerful, poetic an ethereal piece of design that it just really has— it had an amazing impact. So design, the world around us, really affects us, and sometimes we don't even know it, right? A movie theater, you go to the movies, of course it's going to be dark in the theater, right? It's for a reason. So, you know, maybe when you're out and about and going to different places I mean, pay attention to the design, the environment. Um, for example, Target. If I walk into a Target or Walmart, I, I don't like it because the lights are so intense. It is so bright inside a Walmart and Target that I actually get headaches. But the lighting level is that way for an intention, for reasons, right? Um, yeah. Let's see if you guys have any questions or comments. All right guys, I think I'm going to wrap in a minute here. But that's it, guys. I just want to riff for a minute or two. Um, I may be on Sketching Live later tonight around 9 o'clock PM Eastern Time. I'm not 100% sure, depends on, um, how things go later. I've got some stuff to do. All right, guys, thank you for watching. I appreciate it. Again, if, uh, go back, watch some live streams if you like what see, feel free to subscribe and like the channel. I would love that so, so much. All right, until we meet again, sketch boldly, live creatively, and inspire
