Industry City, Brooklyn

Jason Nicholas tours Industry City's repurposed warehouse complex in Brooklyn before his sold-out 11 am sketching workshop. The Stationery Fest on site draws an estimated 10,000 people, with massive crowds around pen and sticker vendors. He sketches during an overnight stay and admires the industrial architecture and views of One World Trade Center.

Brooklyn. I'm, uh, here today for my workshop I'm teaching. How cool is that? Uh, Industry City is really interesting. First time here. It's obvi— it's a bunch of old warehouse buildings, and they have, um, I think there are 8 buildings if I'm correct. This is just one small section. In between some of the buildings, you have these cool, um, courtyards I love this architecture. I love the industrial vibe. I love how these spaces are being repurposed. Uh, really, really interesting place for sure. So I figured we'd do a quick walk. My workshop is at 11 today. It's sold out, so that's cool. I'm, uh, ready and a bit nervous. But nervous in a good way. So cool, right? So I definitely, um, gonna do some sketching. I've already done some sketching here, just quick. I was here yesterday overnight and I'm leaving today, so it's a quick, quick quick whirlwind visit, but, um, I'm just really honored and blessed to have this opportunity for sure. And here's kind of looking back down that courtyard space. So I'm here for a stationary fest— stationery fest. Jason Nicholas is huge, huge. It is actually down that way, a few buildings. It's a real big event, very well organized, a lot of friendly people, tons of vendors. I think they're expecting 10,000 people, so it's a big deal, um, what they're doing here. So very, very cool. I walked around the vendors yesterday. It was so crowded, but it was cool to see all the different pens. And who knew, who knew stickers were a big thing? I had no idea. There were lines of people to get different stickers. Oh my gosh, crazy, right? Here you can kind of see another view. Hey, feel free to say hello, thumbs up if you like this. Just a quick glimpse of Industry City here. It's so cool that they're, you know, repurposed these old, old buildings. There's a— right across you got some cool, uh, a crane over there. So very, very industrial. So I stood here and did some sketching yesterday of this corner. Uh, it was, it was in the afternoon. I was tired. It was really hot, but it was fun just to stay out here and, and do a skating for a few minutes. Um, and anything industrial I love so much. I mean, I just love the sign here. So cool. Definitely a unique place. Um, I don't know if you guys can see it, but way back there we have One World Trade Center. You can see the top of it. So that's it. Yeah, so I'm just kind of walking around. I'm gonna go back over and, um, I can get in at 9 and walk around. So that would be cool, be less crowded. I came in the afternoon, it was pretty packed yesterday. But this is industry— industry city. It's hard to see. If you like this, give it a thumbs up. I will be posting more about this little visit to the pool. Alright, I think I'm losing my signal. Until we meet again, sketch boldly, live creatively, and inspire endlessly.
