In this short tutorial, artist Jason J. Nicholas demonstrates a quick, on‑the‑go sketching method that uses shadows cast onto a blank sheet of paper. He first shows his compact, portable sketch kit—including pens, pencils, colored pencils, watercolors, brushes, paper towels, and a sketchbook—emphasizing its ease of transport. He then positions a sheet of paper to capture a shadow pattern, traces the outlines with a pen, and adds shading to darker areas. He photographs the result to preserve it for later overlay work, allowing more detailed refinement. Throughout, he offers practical tips about working with moving light, wind, and how to use the captured image for further artistic development.
