Just taking a walk

Jason Nicholas walks his dog Olivia and talks about recovering from overwhelm by celebrating small wins instead of dwelling on unfinished work. He contrasts the energy of Rome, Madrid, and Barcelona with quiet parks, both fueling his creativity. He's hosting a live sketching session at 9 PM Eastern and launching a new "Simply Being Human" podcast series.

An awesome day today. I am just out taking a quick walk and I wanted to pop on and say hello. So, uh, nice day, sun's out, blue skies, taking my pup for a walk. So I wanted to check in, and I was inside grading today, doing some paperwork, and I was getting frustrated because I have so much like stuff I gotta catch up on, and I'm sitting there getting frustrated because I feel like nothing's getting done, and a sense of overwhelm and unaccomplishment. We all feel that way, right? It's just part of simply being human. But then I realized, you know, I actually got a couple things done, and I think sometimes we need to remember to celebrate the small things in life, the little victories, whether it's crossing something small off your to-do list, or I don't know, making some kind of progress with one of your goals. It's— that's what it's about. It's, it's don't sit there and beat yourself up about the things you're not getting done. Take a minute and celebrate the things you are getting done. That it's really helpful just to keep moving forward. So So I figured I'd take a walk, just celebrate a little bit. I got a couple things done and celebrate with some sunshine. So yeah, I'm just gonna walk and talk for a few minutes, and I don't know what I'm going to talk about, but feel free to join me on this walk. Sorry if the camera's a little shaky. I don't have a gimbal. I wanted to pop on, say hello. So, um, I will be sketching tonight online, probably around 9 o'clock Eastern time. So definitely come and join me for some sketching. Maybe bring a pen, pencil, and some paper and try to sketch along with me. I think that would be a lot of fun. I'm kind of walking today and comparing my European trip to my walk now. So I went to really busy cities— Rome and Madrid and Barcelona— and so, so, so busy. Now I'm walking in a nice quiet park-like setting. So it's really interesting, that contrast of busyness and stillness. And I'm learning, I, I'm learning that I'm a person, I really appreciate the quiet and still times, but I'm also infused and energized by the busy city vibes also. So I'm kind of learning that I need both of them in my life, the quiet and the busy. It's a mix that keeps me fueled, keeps me going. So just join— yeah, just walking around talking for a minute or two. I want to check in. Feel free to say hello in the comments if you're out there. I'd love to say hi to you back. Um, tonight I will be live streaming, do some sketching, so join me 9 PM Eastern time. That'll be fun. I don't know what we're going to sketch yet, but here you can kind of see the sun behind me, right? So one of— I'm going to riff off my trip a little bit and things are coming to mind. So, um, I love going to— here's what I loved about traveling in Europe. There is so much history and amazing beauty and architecture. Things that I just can't process here at home because we don't have that age to go by, that amazing history, right? So for example, Rome is a museum city. Everything you see is old, some more significant than others. But when you see the Colosseum in person, it is astounding. It is so much different than photographs. You feel it. You feel like— I got energized and excited knowing I was walking on, on stones and pavement and streets that, I don't know, billions of people have walked on over the ages. And it's just different kind of energies infused in an environment like that. So yeah, so different cities, different different locations, you know, whether it's a park-like setting now or a busy city, definitely different energy vibes. So that's a really cool thing, and that's something I really like to want to capture in my sketching, is the different energy of the locations I'm in. So you'll see more of that as we continue. So feel free to say hello in the comments. I see some people out there. Dropping in and out. This is fun. This is totally random, so nothing planned here, guys. Um, usually I do the hike and mic walks, which I'm starting, starting to call a new series called Simply Being Human podcast coming real soon. I've been recording some stuff and it's really just talking about Simply Being Human, so some of these kind of walks and talks or things you'll hear. Check out my TikTok and Instagram. I've put videos up, just hike and mics I call them, but, uh, that'll be changing to a different brand soon. Cool. Let's see, you can see what's in front of me. Let me change the camera view. Hold on a sec, I have my pup with me. There's Olivia, my pup. Um, I love that the spring is finally here. Leaves are— not leaves, but things are budding and growing, greening. Birds are flying, chirping. Water is running. It's really amazing. So I love the change of the seasons. And seasons— we're talking about energy of different cities and vibes. Seasons are different energies and vibes too, right? You know, spring is a time of rebirth, renewal, reinvigoration. It's a reminder— use spring as a reminder that we all have the ability to refresh and reinvigorate in different ways. Um, you know, winter is a time for me, a time of kind of solitude and quietness and slowing down and taking lots of naps, which is good. And then summer is just vibrant energy, you know, and fall, fall's colors and bright. And each season can trigger and make us feel and inspire us in different ways. And I think sometimes we just go through life kind of getting lost in what we're doing every day and not paying attention to the bigger picture, the bigger cues. Bigger signs of things that are out there that can trigger us, inspire us, inform us in different ways. Cool. All right, I think with that, guys, I'm gonna wrap. So again, I just want to pop on with this random random thoughts of walkness on this Saturday afternoon. Uh, hope you can join me later while I'm sketching live, probably around 9 PM Eastern time, and I'll see you there. All right, have an amazing rest of your day.
