This content was created by Jason Nicholas. This content was uploaded by Jason Nicholas. This is a YouTube video titled "My Urban Sketch Gear : Revealed" (created 2025-03-09) featuring Jason from Inkspired Life presenting a solo vlog/tutorial about his urban sketching everyday carry. Jason describes the gear he used at Brooklyn Bridge Park — e.g., a Soho Urban Artist Sketchcraft sketchbook (65 lb, can bleed), Sharpie Creative Markers, Lock B Quattro cases with colored pencils/gel pen/aqua brush/Pilot Varsity, the Lockbee Field Journal EDC, iPhone, a Waterfly crossbody backpack, a slim battery pack and a Moleskine — and demonstrates packing and use. He also gives a minimal kit recommendation (Lock B field journal + Sharpie + gel pen), says he will post links/affiliate code, and promotes upcoming workshops and his email list.

Hi, Jason here from the Inkspired Life. I want to just share with you some tools that I like to take with me. Urban sketching. I like to travel light. When I go sketching, I do a lot of walking and traveling. So less stuff equals more freedom. Lighter weight keep my energy levels up longer. So yesterday I went to Brooklyn Bridge park in New York City, an inspirational place. And here's what I brought with me. We'll start with paper. So this was the first time I had actually used this paper. It's Soho Urban Artist Sketchcraft. It's only 65 pounds, so it kind of bleeds through the pages. Here's an example of one of my sketches from yesterday. I like this. A couple reasons. One, I like the it lays open flat, which is great. This also fit nicely into my backpack, so it's fun using this. Just remember it does bleed through, especially if you're adding creative markers or I use a Sharpie. So there you go. So that's the paper I also took with me in my backpack yesterday. Two Lock B Quattros. I love the Lock B Quattros because they, they're just so great for me to carry a couple of different types of items. So in this one I have my Sharpie Creative Markers. This zips up nice so it's really easy to carry. Nothing's going to fall out. There's even pockets on the front. I can never have too many Sharpies. Sharpies are my go to sketching markers, pens, whenever I'm sketching, anywhere, anytime. So I always have extras with me. My other Lock B Quattro has colored pencils in. Also has a few other types of pens. A gel pen. I have an aqua brush in here as well and a Pilot Varsity purple pen. So this came with me as well. Zip them up. I put them into the backpack. I'll show you in a minute. Of course, I rarely leave home without this. The Lockbee Field Journal has been my go to EDC everyday carry for a few years now. I love this. So I had this with me yesterday and I'll show you a quick sketch I did yesterday right here. The Brooklyn Bridge. But this is amazing. It has a place for a pen here, another holder here, pockets on the front. I love the size paper and I love how it clips. So this is my go to everyday carry 247 right here. Yeah, you also have a smaller size, which is pretty cool too. I also iPhone. Always bring my iPhone with me. Obvious reasons, maybe some not so obvious reasons is I do like to record and take pictures and document my day as I'm outside sketching. Also love it to listen to music, especially when I'm on the bus or podcasts. So I have my phone with me and let me grab this backpack and I'll show you one other thing. So here's the backpack I took with me. It's called the Waterfly. You can get them on Amazon. I will put a link to this on my Amazon page if you're interested. You could check that out there. But this I was able to fit all the stuff I just showed you in here. There's plenty of pockets inside. A nice zippered pocket on the front as well. It's a crossbody bag so you can wear on your front side or the backside. Really convenient. And there's a cool little strap pocket here and you could either put your cell phone in there. But I actually use it to put. Can't have enough paper when I travel. When I'm sketching, I actually use it to put my little Moleskine journal. I didn't actually use this one yesterday, but I have used it in the past. But I always like to carry this with me as well. So last time I used it I was at the Brooklyn Bridge. That's one of my favorite places to go. That location inspires me. And then the last thing I'm going to show you that I brought is in here. And then I'm going to wrap up and I'll tell you what my absolute minimal gear would be that if I was to go out and travel with basically nothing. I'll tell you what that would be. But before we do that, here is this is a battery pack. This is so slim, so portable. I can't think of the company, the brand right now. I will add a link to to it if you like. But this is great because it has different adapters. And what I really use it for is to plug my. Right here you can see the adapter. I use it to plug in and charge my iPhone. So it's really great for that, especially since when you take a lot of pictures and a lot of videos, the iPhone battery can die pretty quickly. And this also fit in the backpack. So I get a common question. If I was to travel extremely lightly, bare minimal amount of tools and equipment, what would I take? My go to would be the Lock B field journal and a Sharpie backup Sharpie. And also I have a Sharpie gel pen in here. So I would be satisfied just taking this with me out in the field. Really light, easy to carry. So that would be my minimal travel kit. Sometimes I'll bring watercolors as well. There you go. So if you're interested in anything I talked about I'll post links. Also on my screen right now you see a Lockbeam discount link. Feel free to visit their website use my discount code. I get a small little commission from that and I would love love to take you guys on some urban sketching journeys with me.
