Hello, happy March 23rd, 2025. I'm Jason Nicholas Nicholas with the Inkspired Life with Sketch Something Sunday. Um, yeah, I'm just taking a break from doing responsible things like tax organization. Um, sometimes I need a break to infuse my brain, my energy with some creativity to change my mindset. Just to do something I find a little more joyful than organizing taxes. Um, and for me, sketching is one of those things that lights that fire. So I'm only on really briefly, maybe for— it's probably a quick session, maybe just like 5 minutes. Sometimes a quick creative infusion is all you need to change that mindset, to get to a different place, just bring on some joy. If you're watching live, let me know where you're watching from. Um, so this is a lighthouse I sketched last week. I was thinking about maybe just throwing some color on it now. I have a workshop coming up on April 5th if you want to join me and sketch some lighthouses via Zoom. Feel free to check out the link or scan the QR code. Would love to have you in the workshop. All right, this is a fictitious lighthouse from my brain. Um, just got some Sharpie all over my finger, which means it's definitely art, because I like to say it's not art unless you wear it. So let's just grab, uh, some creative— some Sharpie creative markers, and we'll just throw some color down. There's nothing wrong with going back to your old sketches and adding stuff to them, adding some color. We don't always have to start from scratch. You know, especially if you feel like you're overwhelmed, you don't know where to start. Here's a pro tip: maybe go back, look through your old sketches, and find something you want to just kind of work on or add something to. In my case, I'm just adding a pop of color onto this, and that might get the, the, um, creative wheels going. For something else you might want to do, or it might lead you down another path. You never know. If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments. I'll check before I wrap up and say hello. I'm just, I'm just grabbing and going with the colors here. So some blue on here, why not? It's ironic, I'm listening to music and the song that just came on is Elton John. What's it called? I guess that's why they call it the Blues, and I'm using blue. That's so weird. Who, who would have thunk that? It's interesting, blue is not a color I usually will use on buildings for some reason. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I just It's not one of my go-tos. What the heck, well, why not? We'll make a blue and yellow, maybe blue and yellow on here. I love lighthouses. I love what they represent. I love their functionality. They're beautiful, elegant structures, utilitarian structures, right? They have a purpose, um, and sometimes it's the purpose of things that, that's, that's what makes it beautiful. That's cool. Again, this is just a quick throwdown session, just putting some color on here just, just for fun. Not planning this out, just winging it. Who says we can't have a red rocky shore there happening? I'm just throwing some white on here. I love the way the colors pop on this kraft paper. And we got some rocks happening there. Pretty cool. All right, let me see if there's any questions or comments. I know I'm on a weird time here on a Sunday. Just gotta open the window here. Hey, Laura's in the house! Laura, good to see you. Hope all's well. Good Sunday morning. And to pull an unfinished sketch from last Inktober, that's a cool idea. Yeah, I love that. You probably have a bunch. Um, go for it, grab something. Add to it, tweak it, and go for it. It's just a great way. I'm just looking for my— the marker this goes to. Um, just a great way just to get some creativity out. Love that. What I love is I can't find a marker I just had. I'm going cuckoo. Oh my gosh. Well, oh, it's because this is for my Sharpie. Silly me. Silly me. You know what I'm going to do? I have a pencil here. I'm going to actually— I'm going to zoom in, I think, and I'm going to use a pencil to add some shading on here. Just going to get my camera thingy here. Oh, I think I'm as close as I can get for now. Okay, now I can get closer. There we go, there we go. Just want to zoom in a little bit, and I'm going to wrap up after this song is finished. So I'm just going to use a pencil here to throw in some shading. So I'm going to do hatch lines. Hopefully he's picking it up on camera. I think— there you go. If I do that, you can see better. So I'm just trying to create a rounded look. With that lighthouse. Um, I did that by making the lines short. They get longer as they get to the right. Um, if I was really careful, I would make them even closer as they get to the right and darker. I find pencil is something I don't really use that often, and I don't know why. But I'm starting to use— starting to use pencil a little bit more. I just love the graphite color, the gray color we can get from pencil. I actually have in here some cool carpenter's pencils I can show you in my, um, Lockbee. This is the Lockbee Folio. It's really awesome. Love, love this thing. If you're interested in Lockbee, you go to my website, check out my tools and materials. I see a whole thing with Lockbee on there and the discount code as well. But yeah, I got these orange carpenter pencils from Field Notes. I have to sharpen this one, but I love— I've been loving carrying the carpenter pencils around. But maybe I'll do a livestream where I just kind of demonstrate and use some of the Carpenter pencils. Maybe we'll draw some, uh, some siding on here. So maybe this is just kind of shingle siding we got going. Oh, the song's ending. Uh-oh, that means it's time for me to wrap up. I like leaving a lot of this unfinished, so I'm not gonna add color here. I'm gonna leave it the way it is. I might add a little more blue on the roof here, pull out the roof a little bit more. And selfishly, I have to admit, this is my favorite color these days. My favorite creative marker color, color pencil color, and watercolor color. But I still love my other colors, and they still love me. They still love me. There we go. Cool. You know what, I think I'm gonna draw— let's draw a person on here. Hey Jennifer, cheers from Arizona! Great to see you, hope all's well. Laura says, well, and it's actually architectural, so hopefully you will appreciate it. Yeah, Laura, I'd love to see what your Inktober sketch is and how you mod it. Um, yeah, I look forward to seeing that posted. That would be awesome. You could always share stuff on my Inklings Facebook page. I think you're on there. I think you can share stuff if you ever want to share your artwork on the Inklings Facebook page. It's, it's a free page. Uh, feel free to look it up. I think it just— I think it's like the Inspired Life Inklings. And Jennifer, so great to see you. Hope all is well in Arizona. Oh, I was gonna draw a person. Silly me. Let's draw a person. Hope you guys are liking this. This is actually kind of cool. I love the mishmash of colors. Just grab and go creativity. That's kind of my theme. Grab and go, grab and go. Let's draw a person. Sometimes it's cool to show a person just to get some scale on a sketch so you can see the scale of the architecture of the buildings. I'm going to pop them out with some color so they stand out a little bit more. Actually, you know what, maybe we'll make this— I haven't sketched the Whistling Cowboy and Retro in so long. All right, so maybe we have the Whistling Cowboy here, and maybe we have Retro. Retro is heading down here to the, um, maybe we got the water kind of happening back in here. It's gonna be Retro somewhere here. It's been so long, let's see, since I've sketched Retro. There we go. Retro the pup right there. Retro the wonder pup. All right, let's pop these guys out with some color. Let's— I'm gonna use orange. Let's pop them out with some orange. It looks like a carrot. They do call them carrot people. It really looks like a carrot with the orange. And since I have orange there, uh, let me pop some here maybe too, just so we have it in another place. Maybe up here as well. Of our lighthouse light orange. All right, cool. All right, I'll zoom out so you can see this whole thing. Let me know if there's any final questions or comments. Love that you guys are popping on live here. I said I was gonna be on for 5 minutes. All right, I meant 15. I'm in 15 because I do have to get back to the reality of bill paying and tax organizing. All right, there you go. So that's kind of our lighthouse sketch for today on Sketch Something Sunday. One of the things I love about sketching is that it can change my state of mind. It's just so joyful, peaceful, puts my mind somewhere else. And sometimes we need that during a crazy busy day or during a task that we're just not into so much. But you also got to be disciplined and get back to the other stuff, which I'm about to do now. Thank you guys. I'm Jason Nicholas Nicholas with the Inkspired Life. I love sketching architecture, whether it's from my imagination or the real world. I love urban sketching. Um, yeah, you too can sketch architecture if you can draw lines and you can scribble. All right, hope to see you real soon. Feel free to check out my workshop, uh, you see it posted on the screen. Would love to see you there. Have an inkspirational day.
