The INKspired Life - Architectural Sketching

Jason Nicholas continues a watercolor sketch of a bridge, mixing purple for shadows and adding lemon-yellow for contrast. He works on 8" × 8" watercolor paper, using a loose style with Sharpie and brush markers to darken the outline, and emphasizes having fun over perfection.

Everybody, happy, um, December 28th. Thursday here. Hope you're doing well. I'm on just working on this bridge I had started the other day and wanted to come back to add some more to it. So I figured, heck, let's go live. Why not? Yeah, it's great to be here. Let's see what's going on in chat land. Feel free to say hello. I see Linda is on. Linda, um, still at the hospital, can't wait to hear now, watch replay later. Hey, positive thoughts and prayers go out to Joe. Hang in there. All went well. Wow, I'm glad it went well. That's awesome. Hang in there. Sending peace and positive vibes to you guys, for sure. I'm just gonna adjust my, uh, camera thingy here. All right, cool. All right, so, uh, right now I'm throwing down some purple. I want to create just some shadowy kind of things happening here. So I mixed up some purple watercolor paint, just took some red and some blue. Again, I am a sloppy painter. I just dip and go and all that stuff. I mix colors here, here, here. It's okay, it's how I get in the flow and how I have fun. And really, it's really just about having fun. There we go. Oh, this is nice. I like this color here. Awesome. Let's just do, um, maybe the sun's coming like through this across here where this does something like that. Awesome, liking it. That's a pretty bold move throwing that purple down there. Yeah, I'm actually liking this the way it's drying. I'm going to zoom in, um, so you guys can see the colors a little bit better. Yeah, I like the way it's looking. This is going to dry really nicely in here. Um, I want to throw down some verticals here for the tables. That's what we have going on there. Let's bring it closer. You can see kind of how it's looking, how things are drying. That's pretty cool. I'm— I don't know how much more I'm going to add to it. I think I just want to pop out maybe the outline of the bridge a little bit. So, try the Sharpie. Yeah, we'll go with the Sharpie on that for now. Or, you know what, I might even go bolder. I'm gonna break out— uh, let's go over here. I'm gonna grab a Tombow Art Marker here. And I like it because it has that thick tip on— brush tip at the end. So you'll see as I'm kind of throwing down, still going to keep it loose and wonky, but just darken up the outline a little bit. So you can see how I'm pulling out the bridge structure, just the outline here. We'll do the same thing down this side here. Yeah, I'm liking it actually. Zoom out so you can see it better. And let's see, I'm going to pop a little, little more yellow I think on here. Let's just use some yellow paint, watercolor paint. If not I can come in and maybe add some neon yellow color pencil. I really just load the brush up here. Let's make it lemony zestful. Zestfulness. I don't even know if that's a word. It's all good. Yeah, so I just want to pop just some yellow here and there. It just gives some punch. All right, that might be enough of the yellow. Alright. Yeah, yeah, I like that. Ta-da! Alrighty, I think this one's done, guys. Pretty cool. I like it. Just has to dry and, um, Yeah, I'll sign it up. Zoom out so you can see it, the whole thing. This is an 8-inch by 8-inch watercolor paper, 140-pound. See the texture if I go close right there. You should be able to see the texture on there. And I think it has more, even more depth that I added some Actually, I want to throw in a little more kind of dark purple back here. See, back in here, because I want it— the depth to go even further back. See if that kind of darkened it a little bit. All right, cool. Yeah, it did. It looks like it's a little bit deeper now. It's going dark back there. Awesome. All right, guys, thank you so much for watching. Hang in there. Have a great, great rest of your day. I'll be back again sometime real soon. Maybe even today. We'll see. Thanks for watching. Take care. Peace and live creatively. Find that finish button, I know it's here. Boom!
