Hey, happy Monday, January 22nd. Hope everybody's doing well. It's 9:01 PM here in New Jersey. I am on really briefly tonight. I think I always say that, although I'm not usually brief, but tonight I'm only going to be on for like 15 minutes. Hope you're all doing well. I do see Linda. Linda S, how are you? So great to see you. Hope all is well. For sure. So, I'm just gonna sketch a New York City-inspired scene. So, no surprise there, right? Again, hope you guys are doing well. Kiko, hey, I see Kiko over on Instagram. Kiko, how are you? Hope all's well, man. Good to see you. Alright guys, let's do some sketching. Keep it fast, quick, loose. So I'm going to just start with my Sharpie pen here. I'm just going to kind of outline the shape of some buildings. I'm not even sure what the name of this building is. I'll find out. Hey, Mr. Papa's— Dr. Papa's in the house. How are you, Dr. Papa? So thank you guys for joining me. Hope you're all doing well. So this, the scene I'm sketching, let me just actually bring it on, um, bring it on so you guys can see what I'm looking at. So this is what I'm looking at. I'm kind of— I'm inspired by this photograph because of all the water towers. I love water towers in New York City. They're just so cool to look at. So I thought it'd be fun just to kind of pull this image up and just do a quick sketch based on this photograph. I think I took this last November, maybe. So that's kind of my inspo pick for the night. So we're going to keep it fast and loose. Again, I'm never trying to recreate the photographs. They're really just inspiration and a starting point. I know sometimes artists, we have blank paper syndrome. We don't know where to start. And one of my tips is grab a photograph. Any photograph and just start, just start drawing and sketching it. Don't feel like it needs to be perfect. Um, that's just kind of what I, what I do. It helps a lot. There's some epic, like, superhero music going. Gotta love it. So this goes out to all of my epic superhero teacher friends who— my school, we have midterms starting tomorrow. I know I've been feeling a lot of stress, but just getting things together for it. Just a lot of work. But I love what I do, so it's all fun. And also shout out to all the students out there. All right, so I just kind of blocked out some shapes. Let me draw some buildings in the background, and I'm gonna just throw down a little bit of color on here tonight. Hey, I see Jason H is in the house over on Facebook. Hey Jason H, how are you? Hope all is well. Jason Nicholas is into sketching architecture, so it's always cool to see you out there in the chat. All right. So we have just kind of things blocked out. So let's throw down some color. Jason Nicholas says, I know this area. That's so cool. Yeah, this is near— I could be wrong. I'm trying to remember. Uh, the theater where they're doing Hamilton. I'm drawing a blank, I'm sorry guys. I think it's down that street, and, and they were doing construction somewhere down there. This is kind of a view looking up at some of the buildings. I could be wrong. That may be the H— that may be the H&M building on the back in this area too. All right, let's throw out some fun color. Always great to see you guys here. Again, today's gonna be really just fast, quick, and loose. Just want to play around a little bit. Just finished working not too long ago, so I need to change my mindset, get out of the work— the working mindset into a more relaxed kind of mindset. Although sometimes sketching fires me up. Actually, most of the times it fires me up, but it's a good just change of state from going from work brain to creative brain. Hopefully that makes sense. I'm just grabbing out my watercolor palette, not even really thinking. Just doing some grab and go tonight. Uh, I want to grab and go with— go for the orange here. Hey, Karen's in the house! Karen, great to see you, hope all's well. It's always good to see Karen and Linda S in the house. You guys are some of my original inklings. So much fun starting, you know, doing those workshops with you guys. Couple years ago. Yes, the architectural workshops are making a comeback, so I hope to see you guys in there when I post, you know, signups for the classes or for the workshops. All right, we're getting a little messy here, so I want to just throw down a lot of background color and then I'll come back in Tomorrow or during the week, we'll add some more details with ink. You know what, let's do some splattering. I didn't splatter anything here. There we go. All right, so we got some splatter. I have people ask me sometimes, why do I like to throw splatter on my sketches? Well, for me, splattering kind of captures the energy of New York City. So I just want that energetic feel. My colors also, my colors definitely are not what's there for real. I'm just going with my gut, my feeling, my kind of, kind of my soul. And I just feel these really vibrant, fun colors. Grabbing some lemon yellow here. If you guys have any questions, feel free to let me know, throw them in the chat. Linda S is over on the YouTube tonight, that's so cool. Hey guys, shout out to everybody on YouTube, um, finally over 600 subscribers, so cool. So that was my goal this month to get to 600, we're there, so I really appreciate you guys. Sharing and liking and subscribing. Uh, I would love to get to 1,000 by the end of February. All right, I got this funky color in here. This was a sample I got last year when I went to, um, a workshop. It has like a sparkly purple. I don't know what brand it is. It's in the palette. Let's throw some sparkly purple on here. I don't really make it a habit to memorize color names. I just kind of grab and go. So I think Sparkly Purple will— it's actually, let me zoom in so you can see what it's doing. If you can see it as it's drying here, let's lift this up. We can let it run down and mix. Gravity is our friend. I love how the paint's running down here. Um, you might be able to see it over here. Look at the purple. I'm going to kind of move the page. Probably hard to see on camera, but it's shimmering. So there's some kind of sparkly stuff happening. And that is why I teach architecture, guys, because I don't think sparkly stuff is the artistic term for that watercolor paint. Um, all right, we got a lot of brights, a lot of fun colors. We're gonna bring it down a little bit, just a little. So I'm gonna grab some dark blue in here. I see Angelique is over on Insta. Hey Angelique, how are you? Hope all's well. Jennifer joined us over on Facebook. Cheers from Arizona, Jennifer, great to see you. Hope all's well. I do have to be careful with this because I want to leave a lot of white space here to kind of balance the colors. So I'm grabbing this blue and I'm not going to— I don't want to cover all the white area. Let's take this out. I love this Winsor Newton watercolor palette. As you can tell, it's gotten a lot of love. It's just so fun. I could put my thumb here and hold it. All right, so we're going to throw down some dark blue. I don't know, we're going to throw some down in here. Zoom, I think is better if you guys can see a little closer. There we go. There we go. So we got some blue happening. Maybe just a smidge up in here.
All right, it's looking cool.
And that, that is enough blue. Just kind of tilt this up a little bit. I just want some of the water to run down. Angelique says hello. Hello, Angelique. Right. So, hey, gravity is our friend. It's an awesome tool to use for watercolor and ink washing. Kind of look at the areas here. You can just see the blue running down, just kind of moving this around a little bit and things mix together. I, I'm actually really liking the colors on here. I'm going to leave the white we see. So my next step would be to come back with my Sharpie, just start adding some more details, like maybe show some of the windows here in the building. Pull out these water towers a little bit more. Actually, there's one color I didn't use yet. All right, let's do that. I hope everybody is having a great Monday.
It's 9:13.
I'm gonna wrap. I'm actually gonna wrap. Maybe 2 to 5 minutes. I have school tomorrow, so I'm just throwing down some of this, um, Apple Snail color, just kind of pulling pulling out these water towers a little bit. I don't want to get too cray cray with it.
There you go.
So, just kind of pulling these shapes out a little bit here.
And—
Like I said, after they dry, I'll throw down some ink. We'll pull out some of these lines, some more details a little bit. That's fun. All right, all right, kiddo, back off on the throwing down the ink. We don't want to do too much. Hey, thank you guys for the hearts. I see a heart out there on one of the— I guess Facebook.
So cool.
Let's zoom in so you guys can see how some of this is mixing. I'm really liking this area here. Hopefully you guys can hear me okay. I didn't even check the sound volume. Or anything. This is, this is really cool right in that section. Um, this is fun too. I'm really liking, liking this whole section. Let's get the frame out. There's two, our mini frame. If you look in this framed area To me, this is actually— would be just a cool little painting all by itself, right in that frame section. It'd be awesome. What else would be a cool area? I'm actually digging this area right here. I like the way this is drying. I love hard edges, watercolor with a hard edge kind of doing this. Really fun, those hard edges contrast with kind of the soft blending, uh, color blended areas.
There you go.
Just for fun, we'll throw this on too. Where my pup outside? I'd love for you guys to meet my pup sometime and the rest of my family.
Um, here we go.
Pretty cool abstract area here. Do the same here. So I, I really like the looseness of this right now. Let me show you how that purple shimmer paint is doing. I might sneeze. If I do, I apologize, but you can see it here. Excuse me, sorry about that. All right, right guys, let's zoom out. I think we're gonna leave this at here tonight at this point. Actually, we'll throw down one more thing, then we'll wrap. Let's throw down some, uh, put on some Preppy Yellow. I love this Preppy be yellow color, but I love it even more— oh my gosh— right out of the tube. It's more concentrated, and I just kind of love this color. Do I have more in here?
Let's see.
Yeah, I got some in there. You can see that. Zoom in again. I love this Preppy Yellow. It's like almost like an orange, orangey yellow color. Almost out of the ink in here.
Alright.
Alright, so there's that Preppy Yellow ink, and I think this one has a little bit more in there.
Let's see.
Nope, we're done. Hey, I see Lindsay. Lindsay's in the house. Lindsay, how the heck are you? Hope all's well. Hi! Ta-da! So that was the Preppy Yellow. Pretty cool. All right, put down the paintbrush. Zoom out a little bit, you can see how it looks. There you go. All right guys, thank you so much for watching I Am Peace Outing. Keep paying it forward with positivity and creativity. Have an amazing rest of your night. Have an even better Tuesday. Thank you guys so much for watching, liking, and sharing. And Karen says, lovely. Hey Karen, thank you so much. I'm glad you like the way it's wrapping up, and it'll even Once I come back later this week and add my ink, my Sharpie stuff on top, it'll have a little more interest to it for sure. I think this is a really cool base. Really cool. So, uh, my takeaway tonight is— I used to always end with takeaways. I stopped doing that. Uh, my takeaway here is Not to sketch too much, not to sketch too many details at the beginning before I add color. Here I have really, really rough, just loose outline, threw down the color and I'm going to let that color help me place some of the detail with my Sharpie. That's That's my takeaway. All right guys, take care. I appreciate y'all. Karen, it's great seeing you. Jennifer, Jason Nicholas Nicholas, and Linda, it's great seeing you guys as well. And Kiko and Danny and Angelique, and see you over on Instagram. That was so cool seeing you guys there also. Take care, great night. Or camera's over here, I'm looking this way. All right guys, take care. Be nice and live creatively.
Thank you. See you later.
