The Inkspired Life - Sketching & Painting : Inking Out Loud

In this live, unscripted video, artist Jason Nicholas streams a real‑time sketch‑painting session while interacting with his online community. He begins by greeting viewers, mentioning Laura’s stitching, and explains that he will sketch a city‑scape using only two inks: black Lamy ink in a Lamy pen and blue Pilot Varsity ink in a Pilot pen. Throughout the stream he demonstrates ink‑bleeding, blotting, zooming the camera to show details, and adds layers of color with watercolor sticks, Winsor‑Newton markers, and acrylics. He narrates his thought process, interpreting abstract forms as bridges, cathedrals, blimps, submarines, and chimneys, and invites viewers to suggest what they see. Jason frequently acknowledges chat participants, gives shout‑outs, and runs two giveaway draws (a 6×6 sketch and a free sketch) by pulling names from a pouch. He discusses framing the artwork by cropping 2‑inch squares to create mini‑sketches, explains his mixed‑media approach, and shares personal anecdotes about voice‑impersonation idols, favorite music, and future plans such as a Valentine‑themed Inking Out Loud, a Disney workshop, and a watch‑along. The video blends artistic demonstration, community engagement, and a relaxed, playful atmosphere, emphasizing the joy of the creative process over polished results.
Chapters
Hey there, if you're watching, hope everything's going well. I see Laura in the house. Laura, hope everything's going well today and you're having an awesome Thursday. I forgot what day it was. Awesome Thursday. I'm popping on a little bit earlier than I usually would, but, uh, just want to get some sketching and I'm kind of tired, and before I got too tired, I wanted to get some drawing in, some sketch time. I didn't sketch yesterday. I rarely skip a day. Even if I'm not online, I usually sketch something at home. So I just got to get back into it. But hope all's well. I'm just playing around with some black and blue ink here. This is such dramatic music. Love it, loving it, loving it. Laura, yes, had a good day. Awesome. You're in slow stitching mode right now. That sounds cool. While stitching, I'm also itching to get back to some sketching and painting. That's so cool. Slow stitching. What are, what are you stitching? Love to know what you're making. Sounds awesome. I don't trust myself stitching anything. I'm sure I would end up with an injured finger somehow. So cool. Think artistic embroidery. Oh, that sounds so cool. Yeah, stitching is an incredible art form for sure. Takes a lot of, uh, practice, a lot of patience. Very, very cool. So tonight I'm using a black Lamy pen with black Lamy ink in it. And, um, what else am I using? I'm using actually the, uh, Pilot Varsity pen, which is— which has blue ink in it. And I'm just kind of just sketching and bleeding the two colors, playing around a little bit. Going to my go-to cityscape type of sketch here. Just keeping it loose and wonky. Actually just sketched a kind of a little clock tower here on the left. Zoom in a little bit. I like to zoom in and out. In case you guys haven't noticed if you're watching, hopefully I don't make you dizzy or seasick. I'm zooming the camera in and out a lot because I think it's cool just to zoom in and see some of the details that are happening. I really like the way some of this ink is bleeding and drying. This is looking pretty cool in here, I think. I'm actually like— I like what's happening down here. Kind of this building shape happening on the right. It's pretty interesting looking. And I have sky bridges. I love sky bridges. So I worked— actually have a couple worked in. I see, I see one here, one over here. Now let's actually add some more. Let's add some blue to this. We'll bleed it a little bit. And I just wanted to give kind of an edge to this building shape, so I want to pop it out with that blue ink. There we go. So, kind of cool. It's okay to blot out if you're drawing, or I'm sorry, if you're watercoloring or doing some ink bleeding. It's okay to blot out areas if you want to lighten them up a little bit. Sometimes you have to do it sooner than later because once it dries, some of this ink will not lift off. There we go. I think this one might be done for now. Uh, maybe not. Let me add some, uh, I want to add some stuff at the bottom here, I think. Yeah, so let's play around down here a little bit. Push this up a little bit. There you go. I'm thinking this can be me— maybe a bridge structure down here. And I'm just using a felt tip marker here because I want some smaller detail lines. I don't think this bleeds when I put ink on it. I should test it actually. Oh, I lied, it does bleed. That's okay. Cool, let's zoom out, take a look at it, see how it's drying. This is a pretty busy looking scene. I have a lot of things happening here. Um, sometimes it's cityscapes, like to try to capture the energy, the city has. So this is totally imaginary, but I imagine it being a very vibrant city, maybe a lot happening. Trying to work out, you know, I don't know what this is going to end up being. I see a bridge here. I'm not sure what this is going to be, so I'm going to work on this area a little bit and see if I can pull out some line work on it. But let's put some I want to put some choir music on. Let's see, let's try this one maybe. There we go. I'm going to zoom in even closer. I kind of— I was thinking before I was sketching that there could be a cathedral or church happening in this area. Let me see if I can pull that out a little bit. There you go. There's some kind of little, uh, church building there, maybe, and a river runs through it. Yeah, I could definitely see that bridge church. We have a Some kind of water. Maybe the landscape's kind of rolling down to the water, that area down here. Definitely. Let's see, I'm gonna throw some more blue on here, I think. Cool, there we go. There's some little people on there as well. Let's see, let's do one more song. We're gonna wrap up in a couple minutes here. Let's just play this one. I'm just randomly picking songs on the list over here. Hey Julie, good to see you. Hope all is well. "That looks great. Love the chapels and people." Ooh, cool. I'm glad you like that. Yeah, it's a fun little part of the sketch here. We have the chapel, you can see little teeny tiny, teeny tiny people. You need a magnifying glass to actually see them. This one's looking, it's pretty cool. This is a very busy kind of scene, a lot of lines happening here. A lot of movement and lines you could see. So it's pretty interesting. Let's see, just looking at it, I don't know, I keep saying I don't want to add anything but I keep adding to it. Maybe I'm gonna push this as far as it could go before it bursts with too much stuff. But maybe I'm there already, I don't know. Usually I listen to my gut and I stop but Tonight I just want to keep pushing and going a little bit further on it. Why not, right? See what happens. And I'm only sticking with the blue ink and the black ink. I'm not gonna add any other colors to it. It's busy enough without another color. Looks good just like that. Thanks, the blue. You like the blue with the black ink? Yeah, the blue and black is a good combo. It does look good, I agree. I agree. I'm not just saying that. I kind of want to play around with this part here. I'm just zooming in so you can see it better. I want to do something over in here. I'm not sure what. Let's see where the music takes us. Loving the mambo music. Alright, there we go. Cool. I think I'm gonna leave it at this. I just wanted to add something over here. I felt like, I don't know, like I wanted to do something different in the corner. I have a lot of verticals here, a lot of vertical paint strokes. So, I wanna do a little crisscrossing here. Crisscross applesauce, as they say. A little bit of a curve happening also. I think this one's done. I'm just gonna blot out some of these areas a little bit. There we go. Cool. I think this is gonna dry pretty nicely. I'll zoom in, you guys can see some details on it. Just kind of pan it around. Hey, Angelica, see you. Have a great, great day. Appreciate you watching. So let's pan around, look at some details. Cool, there you go. Boom, got some details going on there. And that's the whole thing. I'm just gonna do one thing before I put this away. I'm gonna just take my frames out and just— I wanna frame little parts of this to see what it looks like. I feel like this could be one of those sketch paintings where you could frame out small sections and get little— just little sketches out of it. So I have my little template here and I gotta put this out here. All right, so this is just a 2 by 2 inch square, and what I like to do is kind of pan around and look at some of the areas in the square. Sometimes these just make really cool little sketches, little paintings. So 2-inch square here, and I have a 1-inch square over there. But right now I'm just kind of focusing on the 2-inch. I mean, this is that little church. I kind of like actually the church. Kind of like this cropping of the church. You can see some of the people here, get a scale of what's going on. Let's see what other areas look cool. Maybe just kind of the top of the building here. Top of the building to ya? Alright. Let's see, let's take a look at, um, oops, off screen there. Tango, tango music here. I kind of like this little piece, this little building top here. Let me frame something like this, a little more off-center. Be better. Something like that could look cool. Let's take a look at this frame here. We'll see what this looks like. Get this away from my head on screen. All right, cool. Actually, I like this. If this was just to be cropped with this matte this way, I think this would be a cool little painting just like this. Right here. That looks really cool. I also like the— oh, thanks, Laura. Yeah, that one's a cool one. This one. Yeah, I think this is the best so far. Horizontally could work also down here. Now, I keep gravitating towards the right. I think this is— I think this is the best area on this sketch painting, is this with this crop. So, I would probably end up framing this part of it here. Cool. All right, so sometimes you want to sketch more, draw more, paint more, paint bigger areas. You could always crop pieces out. Don't be afraid to be— to go too big with what you're doing. Doesn't mean you have to keep everything. You could zoom in if you want a little bit, right? Hey, Patty's in the house! What's up, Patty? Good to see you. Hope all's well. Let's get really crazy and go diagonal. No, no, I'm just going too crazy. Um, actually, I didn't look at this sliver. Kind of, let's look over here a little bit. I actually like this sliver also. Put that church in the bottom right, maybe a little bit down so you can see it's kind of the base of the ground. I'm liking this cropped area also. So, there's a couple of potentials with this one for viewing areas or framed areas. Cool. Cool stuff. I think I'm gonna do one more, guys. I wanna wrap up at 9, so let's do another sketch. Let's see, what should we do? Actually, I'm just gonna sketch on this. I have some blank space on this sheet, so let's sketch, uh, let's play around here. Patty says, got home from afternoon painting outdoor session. I am uber jealous. Rain, wind, sunshine, warm, cold, more rain, and then A rainbow! It was kinda awesome. Love that it ended with a rainbow. It's the big prize at the end of a crazy day. That is so awesome. I wish— it sounds so fun to be painting and sketching all day. One of these days, I'll do that. This summer, this summer I'm gonna definitely get out there and do that. Alright, cool. Let's do another sketch. I'm just gonna do something down here. Where's that frame? Actually, you know, I'm just gonna do something in this. We'll just do something inside this frame, Daryl. Just trace it. I don't know what we're gonna do. Let's give ourselves this space. We'll roughly maybe stay in there, probably not. So I'm just kind of messing around with the— I don't know what I'm doing. I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm just throwing down lines and colors, just messing around. We'll see what happens. I don't know if it's gonna end up being anything, which is cool because I don't really mind. I'm just having fun. That's what it's about for me, guys, just kind of having fun with the process. It is not always about the end result, and I'm cool with that. I just want to live in the moment and just I just love throwing down this stuff. I just love the way this is mixing and drying. It's just looking— it's just looking so cool. You know what, I'm gonna get crazy and throw down some blue on here. Hey, good to see you, Linda. Hope all's well. Good earthy colors, they are, you know. And I just wanted to play with the colors. I wanted to throw the blue in there. Just see how it would look with the other colors happening. Um, I love the way this is drying, and actually really, this area looks really cool in person. On screen it might be a little washed out. I love the way this is drying right here. So earthy colors, that's a great way to put it. Turn it like this a little bit. Let's see. —And I'm just breaking out a watercolor stick here. Alright, cool. That was fun. I just wanted to get some quick lines down in there, play with those colors. Awesome. I was picturing as I was sketching this, maybe a curved some kind of dome structure maybe in the foreground here, some kind of chimney structures happening in the background here. That's kind of what was going through my brain as I was sketching this. I'm just having fun throwing down some colors on this. I'm working, I'm working at it, working, actually trying to make this into something. Just want to challenge myself. So I'm going to throw in some yellow, actually. See what happens. Good to see you guys. I see Becky's in the house. Hey, yeah, I'm so glad you're here. Yeah, it looks like a submarine. So Linda, at one point in time I thought it was a submarine as well. I totally could see that. That's awesome. Um, how do you sign up for Embroidery Create Night? Ooh, that sounds fun. Fuzzy Siamese cat. Awesome. Uh, yes, submarine. I'm so— that's so funny, you guys are saying submarine. Love that. Um, hey Pete, what's going on? Good to see you. Hope all's well. Very, very awesome. It's always good to see you guys. Pete, it's always good to see you join in. Hope everybody's well. I was talking to Billy today a little bit in school. So I like this pop of yellow on here. Pop of yellow, not Papa Yellow. Pop of yellow. It could be a new color, Papa Yellow, or rap singer. Your pick. Um. So I'm just throwing down some yellow watercolor marker, just trying to pull out some of the shapes here. I'm seeing a building happening here now, so I think you putting yellow around it's going to kind of pop it out a little bit more. Quick, this is really quick, loose. I have a lot of water on here, so this is Canson 140-pound watercolor paper. It is buckling like crazy. It's not my friend right now. It's saying there's too much water on it. I'm not listening, I'm still going. If anything, you know, I'm really just playing around. I want to see how these colors all look. Together. I think you can see this kind of popping out a little bit more now that I'm adding the yellow there. Some of the shapes are starting to make sense, maybe. Thinking out loud is about thinking out loud, just spur of the moment, off the cuff. Throwing down some ink, throwing down some color, and just having fun. Again, I'm not going for amazing, incredible, art-winning pieces here. I'm just playing around. Oh, that's cool. I like the blotting effect there. It's kind of a— adds like a sky kind of effect, blotting out some of the yellow. Um, could be old London chimneys. So yeah, so you guys are— I love what you guys are saying because these are thoughts that were going through my head. I need to talk more out loud. Uh, so we were listening to some Parisian music playing before. Uh, so I was picturing rooftops and chimney— chimney pots. That's what these were happening over here. So it's so funny that, uh, Becky, you said that, and you guys said submarine. So when I first sketched this, I was picturing a submarine as well, and I was trying to turn it into some kind of a dome-shaped roof with chimneys in the background. And I was just adding some other kind of wonky, loose kind of buildings in background. Um, Laura said, last few weeks I hadn't done embroidery in a few years. It felt so good playing with threads again. That is awesome. Isn't it fun to come back to something you used to do? Um, sometimes time just escapes from us, right? It flies by and you just don't make the time or take the time to do the things we really enjoy doing. So, I'm so cool— it's so cool that you're rediscovering it, coming back to it. I love that. Um, Jean's— Jean, hey Jean, good to see you. I see that too. All right, you guys are seeing submarines, chimney pots going on here, a little bit of London. I love this. That's what's so fun about doing these at really kind of loose sketchy not sketchy in a bad way, but sketchy like sketch lines and pencil lines, pen lines. You guys see different things and that's what's fun for me actually. Um, to me it looks like a zeppelin with antenna floating through cities. Pete, I love that because I don't know if you know this, but I'm a huge fan of I love blimps. I love them, and I often put them in my skyline, my city drawings. So it's so cool that you said that, and I'm kind of jealous I didn't pick up on that. So 10 points for Pete. I love that. Yeah, maybe it is. Maybe it's a zeppelin in the foreground. That would kind of make sense, floating through the city. After this dries, I'm gonna come back, add some ink lines to it. I actually might even use some of everybody's favorite white gel pens. Well, it's just my favorite white gel pen is the— sounds like a commercial— my favorite white gel pen is the Uni-ball Signo. I do love this pen. I could see coming back, adding highlights on this area. To make it look more like a blimp, adding some kind of reflections on it. I think that's where this might be headed. So thanks for that suggestion. Um, I didn't know we were playing for points, Laura says. Ding ding ding, you are playing for points. You're also, for everybody watching right now, I would— I'm gonna do a free giveaway and I actually have to draw a name. So I'm gonna draw a live name from people that submitted for a contest last week. So I'll do that first and they're gonna be getting this right here. This is a little wonky cottage sketch I did. So I had a contest on Facebook last week for people that shared shared a post I had, they're gonna be entered in a drawing. So I have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 people. So I have a whole list here. I'm gonna draw the name live, I'm gonna do that actually in a minute. And then for you guys on here tonight, I'd like to give away a 6x6 sketch. I don't know which sketch yet, I have one in mind. It's actually under my board here, so I'll pull that out. So if you stick on, that would be cool. How are we going to give it away? I gotta think about that. If you guys— if you guys want to share this video right now, share it out there, share my live stream with somebody, that would be cool. And, um, we'll do a drawing for a free sketch. You probably wanna see the sketch though, you're like, "Is it worth it?" Well, I hope it is. I'll pull it out. I'm gonna put this ink away because I don't wanna spill it. So, I have this sketch right here, a 6x6. This is a little— there's a quick cityscape, part of a cityscape. So I'd like to give this away tonight if anybody's interested. Share out the stream, let me know you shared it. Just put in the chat, just say shared, and then I'll go through and I'll see who shared it, and, um, you guys will win this piece right here. This is sketch painting This is done with Lamy ink, also done with walnut ink on here as well, and it's done on Strathmore 6x6 watercolor paper. Pretty nice little piece. Alright, so I'm going to draw the names for the person that won last time. I wish I had cool music for winning prizes. Game show music. I gotta find some. Let me see, do I have any fun music? I don't even know. I have a new computer, so my music list is all different from what I used to have. I don't know if this is fun or not, but we'll play it. So the people that had entered the contest, they shared my post last week. I have a Karen Binder, Kim Sheets, Linda S., Gilberto, Janice, Melinda, and Heather K. They had all shared. Linda, you're on there. Yes. So Linda, you are in my drawing list for this right here. I have a bag. I'll show you guys. I'm going to draw live. I didn't have a cool hat or anything I could pull out of, but I have this kind of art pouch here. So I have the names in here zipped up. I am not even gonna look. You can see I'm looking off camera. I'm going in the bag. I'm gonna pull out a name somewhere in here. I can't even feel— I feel the names in here, mixing them up. Let's see. And the one I'm gonna draw is this one right here. So I have one in my hand. So the winner is Gilberto. So be both— Gilberto, if you watch this, let me know. Post in the comments that you saw this. If Gilberto doesn't claim this, we'll say by the end of the day tomorrow, Friday, we'll pull another name out. So cool. So that's, uh, first drawing, and then at 9:09— let's see, 9:30, I'll do the other drawing and we'll end the show with that. So whoever puts shared before 9— let's say 9:25, I'll pull out your name. You guys are awesome, thanks for watching. Hope— just trying to make this a little more fun. I actually like the way this is drying, believe it or not. There's something really cool about the— I like the yellow here. I like the yellow, the brown. I'm going to zoom in, let's show you guys. I just love the way this is drying, and I really love the way the texture is showing through from the watercolor stick and the graphite. Looking really cool. Oh boy, that was fun music over. That was cool music. I'm just gonna play a— I know it's whistling cowboy music, let's just play it. I'm not gonna do whistling cowboy yet. Whoa, this is fun music. So exciting, shared, awesome! Congratulations, Gilberto. Yeah, Gilberto is someone who I've noticed just started to watch us recently and left some comments. On the Facebook page. So that's really cool. It's always great to see new people watching. We're gonna take this to the next level. Was that convincing? We're going to the next level. I want to take this to the next level so I can just do this kind of stuff and make, you know, a living doing it. I love teaching. I love it, love it. I think I love this a little bit more. Um, yes, plays nicely with the blue. It does, Becky. I'm gonna keep just playing around with this piece. I like where it's headed. I appreciate you guys watching and leaving comments. And sharing. Thanks guys, it means so much. I'm just dropping stuff here. I'm gonna get a drink. I have some really cold decaf coffee from about 3 hours ago right here. I'm glad you guys like the yellow. So the yellow is a Winsor Newton watercolor marker. This color actually is Gamboa. Gamboge. If you can read it, it's gamboge. And let's see, we're actually going to add some in. So this is my watercolor, my Winsor Newton watercolor box. I'm just using this right now to pull the— I like to put the marker in the lid and then pull it out like watercolor. So you can see me kind of mixing it a little. I mean, pulling it out here, touch it down and brighten it up in some places. So you're looking for voiceover work. That would be so fun. I've often dreamed of doing that. I used to do voices all the time when I was growing up. I used to do impressions of famous people, not good ones. Maybe one day I'll do some. I am out of practice though. I was a huge Rich Little fan. Who knows who Rich Little is? I grew up loving Rich Little and his, his craft at doing voice impersonations. Actually, I believe he's still doing them. He's got to be 80. I believe he's still out there doing stuff. Be interesting to see how well his voice has held up over the all the years. I'm just gonna put more yellow in the middle. I'm almost picturing a, uh, I don't know if it's a sunrise or sunset, but I really want to intensify this area. Interesting music going on, but I really want to play Star Wars music but I will— I will get shut down by Facebook if I start playing Star Wars music. So if anybody wants to hum the Imperial March or Star Wars theme, or— I am, I am currently addicted to the Book of Boba Fett music. I love the theme song. I must listen to it 20, 30 times a day. I know, I know. It's crazy. It's crazy talk. I just— I love the music so much. So you can kind of see on screen, I think this area being a little more intensified where I'm just popping down some yellow on top of yellow. I think this has potential, guys. This image. So 10 minutes, I'm going to look to see who shared, and then I will do the drawing. Yeah, Rich Little was awesome, wasn't he, Gene? Yeah, Rich Little, he, uh, I used to buy cassette tapes with Rich Little and I think he had a cassette tape, just one where he did all different skits on it. I think he had a Christmas Carol one as well. I just used to love watching him and listening to him. My favorite impression he did was his Johnny Carson. I love Johnny Carson. I watch clips on YouTube all the time. Time. I used to watch it live. Rich Little did a really awesome Johnny Carson impersonation. Uh, we did a tape that would— we had a tape that he would do voices for our answering machine. Oh, that's so cool! That would be so cool to put on my cell phone too. I love watching Mel Blanc. Oh my God, Mel Blanc! Genius. So I'm gonna say Mel Blanc, genius. I don't need to say more. Wow, that's a great, great name there, Becky. How many voices they say? He was like the man of a thousand voices or something. What, what a talent. I get goosebumps actually thinking about Mel Blanc, just how incredible the man was. I'm gonna throw some yellow— actually, I'm just gonna take some yellow right out of my watercolors here. I'm just gonna throw some on top of this. If this ends up being a blimp, just reflecting some of that kind of sun happening here. We are back to the Mambo music. This is Mambo number 5. I definitely want to add white to this after it dries. I want to put white here, real along this edge, so it really separates the shape in the foreground. Book of Boba Fett is wicked cool. Oh my gosh. Yeah, I'm not going to talk much about it. People are watching. I don't want to give anything away. The series ended last night. Oh yeah, just blown away. I'm going to miss— I miss— looking forward to it. Looking forward to watching it on Wednesday. Jason Nicholas. Really, really good show. I'm gonna play with this building a little bit here and just add a little— maybe some colors on it. Oh, I almost spilled my walnut ink. That would have been disastrous. Um, yeah, Jim Carrey does— yes, Jim Carrey does an amazing Jimmy Stewart. He does. Jimmy Stewart was, uh, What a unique voice, right? There's a— if you go on YouTube, you can find— I'm sure there's a lot of them, but I know there's one clip of Jimmy Stewart on Johnny Carson. He's telling a story, or actually it's a joke, and it's a pretty good clip. Very cool. I just want to pull out some kind of window shapes on that building in the background. I'm gonna actually put the COVID on my ink here. Obi-Wan is coming at end of May. Yeah, Obi-Wan's coming out the end of May. Yep, previews for that look incredible. I Super stoked to see that one. You like this music? Yeah, this is fun music. It's like Riverdance music, right? I am, I am Riverdance dancing and painting. I'm sorry I don't have my foot camera on. You can't see my feet doing the Riverdance down there, but trust me, I am Riverdancing. And painting. No, no, I'm not. That would be— that would be a talent. I used to always be afraid of using yellow watercolor. I don't know why yellow scared me. I'm using it more and more. From River Dancing to tango music, they're all over the map, guys. I just, I just let out too much. Oh, I don't like what happened. I lost my nice brown ink lines. It's okay, I can add them later. Yeah, now I gotta put them on. That was— I shouldn't have done that. Just put some more on there and then I'm going to wrap this one up and just add them back in. No problem. Right, that's cool. Leave it at that. Let it dry. I could watch ink bleeding for hours. Yeah, me too. I know, I'm such a geek. I could watch paint dry and ink dry. I love that. It's just, I don't know, there's something zenful about it. I'm just putting the cap on my ink here. I don't wanna, this ink was not cheap, I don't wanna spill it. Alright guys, I'm gonna leave this one alone for now, I'm gonna let it dry. I think it's gonna dry really awesomely. I'll come back, add some more ink details and highlights on it. This will be a fun one to watch from beginning to end. I actually started, if you were watching, this was a scrap piece, scrap sheet that was in my sketchbook. I had just a few little scribbles on here and we just added to that scene. And I also got ink back here, I noticed. Ooh, how the heck did I got ink there and there? I got ink everywhere. All right, one more look at this. I'm gonna go through and we're gonna draw the last name out for the winner tonight. Thank you for sharing the stream, guys. I really appreciate it. I'm also on YouTube. If you guys are on YouTube, check out— I'll put a link to my YouTube channel. It's a weird name. I can't get a custom YouTube channel name until I get 100 subscribers. Until then, they give you a random website name. It's weird. Anyway, up to 84 peeps. I'm trying to get to 100 so I can have a YouTube channel. It's called The Inkspired Life. So if you're on YouTube, I would love you guys to check it out and like and subscribe to my channel. There you go, guys. Let's put this one aside. We're gonna do this, a cowboy, but first we're gonna draw our name. Alright, so we're on this page. Uh, I don't know what I'll do. Maybe I'll use this for the Western Cowboy, I'm not sure. You can see my desk is— I got a lot of stuff out here. It's a mess. But I like it that way. Alright, um, ooh, I love scrap pieces. Yeah, that was, that was a scrap piece. Scrap piece. I have this piece too. Let me show you guys this one. It's under here. Where'd I put it? Here it is. Got stuck to the bottom of this board. Uh, I put this painting under my board so it dries. I think it got stuck to it. Oopsie. I could fix it. So here's a piece I've been working on a little bit, just playing around with some acrylic paints, um, with Sharpie marker. So there's a few different— there's probably 3 layers of some acrylic paint on here now. It's not coming out well on camera, but I have some fluorescent pink on here, regular pink, some blue, yellows, and the black ink is Sharpie, which is cool because I can sketch over the acrylic with the Sharpie. Bev— Bev Barron told me today that she's following you on YouTube from her post today. 'Cause I just can't not draw. 'Cause I just can't not draw with water-soluble ink. Ooh, that's interesting. I have to look up the names. I don't even really know who's following me on YouTube. I appreciate that. Thank you for telling me. I'm just actually, I'm gonna put a link to my YouTube channel. Hope you guys don't mind me plugging it, but hey, it's out there. Why hide it? I have a lot of time-lapse videos on there. I also have the videos, Inking Out Loud videos as well are on there. Some old Eastbook Goodies are on here as well. This is my YouTube channel. I'm gonna paste it in the chat. It's a really funky looking name, but I will— once I get 100 people subscribed, I can change the That's my goal. All right, let's do it. Oh boy, I have to go back to here. No, I'm opening the wrong thing. I know what I'm doing, I really do. All right, um, oh, I can't put things in the chat unless I go to Facebook. Oh, hope you guys don't mind this little intermission here. I'm gonna draw the name, I promise. Everybody in the workshop, I love seeing your posts and your homework stuff. Um, Becky, I loved your Seven Dwarfs Mine Car sketch, that was awesome, a lot of fun, really cool stuff for sure. And I can't wait to meet— have our Zoom on Saturday. It's gonna be a lot of fun. So I just posted, I just posted in the chat a link to my YouTube channel. If anybody's interested. All right, cool. Plug away, Becky says. Plug away, thanks. You love it? Linda loves this one. Awesome, Linda, I'm so glad you love it. This is, uh, this is a cool piece. This actually started, uh, on a scrap. This is my quick homage to Big Bird. I was looking at a Jim Henson sketch he did of Big Bird many, many, many years ago. I was just playing around. I, and then I forget how this one started. I have to go back and look. All right, cool. All right guys, let me see who shared. Let me look through the names on here and we're gonna do, we'll do a random drawing. So I just gotta put names here on the tags. All right, so I'm just gonna put names on this sheet of paper. If I forget your name, let me know if you shared. I gotta scroll back through the comments. Let's see, I saw a couple people. I see Linda shared, so put Linda. My pen here is bleeding on my hand. Linda. So I'm just gonna tear it off, we'll fold it in half. And I'm gonna put it in the pouch. Actually, I gotta take all the other names out from the last drawing. I need like a random drawing machine. So, this is the pouch, it's empty. Alright, Linda shared, Becky shared, so Becky— Becky shared. Becky's name's going in the pouch. To do to Laura shared. Thank you, Laura. I have bad handwriting. Laura is in the pouch. Jean shared. Thank you so much, you guys are the best, the bestest. Jean's name's in the pouch. All right, did I miss anybody? All right, I don't, I don't know if I missed anybody. I have Jean and Becky Maura, Linda. All right, that's— those are the only names I've seen, guys, so those are names we're gonna pick from. So thank you guys for sharing. Let's see who's gonna win. Oh, you sketched something from Disney's Hollywood Studios tonight. Oh, Gertie the dinosaur. Yeah, Gertie is, uh, Big dinosaur right in the lake there in Hollywood Studios. I love that. That's so cool. I can't wait to see Gertie. Hope you guys are having fun with the Disney Workshop. We're gonna be sketching, uh, I'm not gonna tell you. I have a fun thing, I hope, planned, a little activity we're gonna sketch together. Points to your homework, and your teacher needs to do his homework for the workshop. I didn't do my sketch yet. All right, I'm gonna zip this up, shake it up, shake it up, shaking it. All right, can you see? Am I zoomed out enough? All right, here we go, shaking it. I am not looking. Bag is unzipped. I am not looking. I'm doing it here, mixing it up. I have one in my hand right here. And the person who's getting a free sketch tonight is Laura. Laura, congratulations, you have got yourself a free 6x6-inch sketch. Hope you like it. If I don't have your contact info and email address or mailing address, you can send me a comment here on Facebook, a private comment if you want. Or you can send it to my email address. So yeah, congratulations. Awesome. I have a whole clapping sound effect or something. Well, this is celebratory music. I got any game show music. Next time I'll have some game show music. So congratulations, Laura, you have won the 6x6 skyline sketch, which I actually have to say I really love this sketch. This is a hard one for me to part with, but it's well deserved. You guys, you earned it. All you guys, I wish I could give everybody something for free. You guys are all amazing. Very, very cool. Who knows, maybe this one will end up somewhere, somewhere in the interwebs. All right guys, it's Whistling Cowboy time. Give me a number from 1 to 20. Money, and we'll head on out for the day. I have school tomorrow. Um, yay, awesome, you're welcome. Have you— no, I haven't had a chance to watch The Princess and the Frog yet. I haven't. We should do a— we— on Saturday's Zoom workshop, we should just turn it into a watch-along. Let's all watch The Princess and the Frog. How cool would that be? We should all just do sketches while we're watching the movie. Would that be cool? I don't know if we could even do that. Let me know in the workshop if that's a cool idea. We could do a movie watch-along and we'll just sketch stuff inspired by the movie. All right, listen, cowboy, number from 1 to 20, if anybody wants to put one in, go for it. Donna is in the house! Hello, Donna, good to see you. Thanks for popping in, that's so cool. Maybe you've been here a while, I didn't I don't remember seeing your name earlier, but thanks for watching. All right, here we go. Whistling Cowboy number 20. Laura says you got it. We're going right to the bottom of the cowboy list. Last song on the Whistling Cowboy list is called Remembered Past. Remembered Past. Donna said hey. Hi Jason. Hi Donna, good to see you. All right guys, thank you for watching. I appreciate you all so much. If you're joining late, I appreciate you tuning in. It's so cool. Uh, you can watch the replay on YouTube, my YouTube channel, or here on Facebook. Go back and watch the zaniness that unfolded. Did I say that right? And just some sketching stuff. Actually, I will do— just for those that did join late, I'm sorry guys, I feel like I'm— I'm not stalling, I'm not stalling. This is what we sketched earlier just so you can see. That's my Disney stuff. Alright, so this is the last sketch we worked on. I like to call these paint sketches or ink wash drawings, mixed media. Paint sketches, sketch paint. No, I like the term sketch painting. I feel like it's what I'm doing, sketching and painting. This was cool, this is very loose abstract. I'm going to come back, add some highlights. I like Pete's suggestion to me, this is a dirigible or blimp or something in the foreground. I love this one by the way, this is one of my faves. This isn't sketchbook show and tell time. Unless you want to see it. If you want to see sketchbook show and tell, let me know. This is the one we started with tonight, just quick inking out loud, blue and black ink. That's all we used on here. I feel a lot of energy, a lot of vibration, movement happening here in this city sketch. I'll zoom in, you can see some of the line work here is kind of frantic. It's busy, there's a lot happening on this one. 7x10 sheet of paper. Uh, still left a lot of white space. My favorite part is this area, right? I love what's happening kind of down in here. That was, uh, what we started with. I like this one. All right, let's zoom and then we'll do our cowboy sketch. Thank you guys so much. See the— oh, oh, the heart shape! You saw that, Patty? Patty is— Patty, you don't miss a trick. I love that about you. You don't miss a trick. You saw the heart. Yeah, that's so funny. You picked up on it. There is a heart shape at the bottom. I love how you picked up on that. I think this is the one you're talking about, right? Yeah, I had noticed that when I was first sketching down there. Yeah, this would be a fun one to go back and watch. I think I'm gonna actually make a time lapse of this, so be on the lookout for a time lapse of this sketch. You can see how it all came together. That's so cool, he picked up on that. Hey Patty, can you— since you're so good at spotting things and finding things, Can you find like the $100 bill I lost at the airport 3 years ago? If you find it, let me know. You can keep it. Just want to know if you could find it. Huh. Well, I didn't lose the money. Oh, you didn't see that one? It's in the skyscraper. It looks like the Empire State Building. Oh, shh. Stop the show. Wait, we gotta stop. Stop the music. We're getting serious now. I gotta bring it out. Where is the heart? Where is the heart? I have good music for this. Um, I have some— there's a song in here called Finding Something, I think. You know me, I'm all over the place, guys. My brain, I'm jumping all over the place, so thanks for keeping up with me. I have a song in here, it's like called Detective or Looking for Something. Where the heck is it? Hmm, dang it, I'm not finding it. That's right, I can't find it. This is kind of like detective music. All right, so where is this heart? It's in the skyscraper, it looks like the Empire State Building. Oh yeah, I see it. You're talking about right in here? You're talking about this, this space right here? Aha, stop the show. Um, Twin Hearts. Above the first steeple. There's one above the first steeple. Oh, okay. Yeah, so right, you guys are talking about this one right here. I didn't even see that one. You guys are good. Awesome. 10 points. 10 points to anybody who spotted this heart before I did. I did not even see that. I just, I saw the one on the bottom here. I saw that when I was sketching it earlier. That is so fun. That's one of the cool things about these loose quick sketches is that I think every time you look at it, you see something different. I've had people say they could really get lost in looking at these for a long time, which is really interesting. Actually, I just— I see a face. Right now that we're looking, I see a face on here. See what you guys— see what you did to me. Maybe I passed my bedtime. Huh. I'm just kidding. I see a— does anybody see it? I see a face like right here. Right in this area I see a face. Two eyes, kind of a nose, possibly a mustache, and then a mouth, or maybe that's a mouth and a chin. It looks like a face right there. Columbo. Yes, Columbo would be proud. I love Columbo, he's my hero. I, uh, I don't know if I ever told you guys, but my wife and I, we were, we were tinkering around with doing a Columbo podcast. I already have the name picked out and everything. I must have seen the episodes, I don't know, on average I probably have seen each one on average 10 times. I have them all on DVD. Anyway, thank you for mentioning Columbo. He always puts a smile on my face. Good stuff. Now I can't unsee it. I know, that's what happens once you see these things, you can't unsee it. But you know what, that's cool. You have something to look forward to every time you look at it. Oh, you guys are awesome. Let's head to the Whistling Cowboy. I could be on here all night. I would love to be on here all night. I was gonna be on last night, but I was so, um, just so tired, so drained yesterday, I couldn't bring myself to come on camera. My voice was so shot yesterday, but I'm here now. Alright, whistling cowboy song, guys. You're awesome. Number 20, the last one on the list. If you're just joining us now, I always like to end the show with what's called the whistling cowboy sketch. I don't even remember how this started, um, this sketchbook. I think Becky or someone asked you how many sketchbooks do I have. So this is actually only the second one, the whistling cowboy stuff, and they're just quick fun sketches to end the show with. But this one's almost done, so it's almost time for a new sketchbook. All right, you guys are awesome. I think I said that. You guys should play a game at home. Every time I say awesome, keep score. I'd probably say it about— it's my favorite word. I probably have said it many times. Uh, it was— I was the same with Monk. I, you know, I've only seen a couple episodes of Monk. I know, I hear it's an amazing show. I just didn't get into it, but I would definitely give it a try. And it wasn't like a— it wasn't like a— what do you call it? It was said to be neat and clean. I hear it's an awesome show. Valentine's Day awaits. Yes. Speaking of Valentine's Day, on Monday I think I'd like to do a Valentine's Day edition of Inking Out Loud at night. We're going to be doing our Valentine's stuff on Sunday. I'm gonna see a movie and grab a bite. All right. Hey, Deborah's on! How are you, Deborah? Good to see you. All right, where's the Whistling Cowboy number 20? You guys can see I'm all hyped up now. This is fun because it's just so darn fun. Um, thank you guys for listening to me. Sometimes it's kind of weird, like, being in a room here just kind of talking out loud. No one's in here with me. My son's probably watching YouTube. I hear the TV on the other room. The cat's probably scratching on the door. So thank you so much. I appreciate it. This is so cool. And I know I'm a little silly, but that's what's fun about it. I am not stalling. Here is Remembered Past. I'm gonna sketch, maybe I'll stay on after, but I'm planning on this being the last sketch. Thank you guys so much. Have an awesome, awesome night. Peace. Oh, Donna says, I love reading your comments. I feel the same way when I make my YouTube videos, like talking to yourself. Yeah, right, Donna? It's kind of weird. The other thing is I feel like I'm always shouting at you guys because I have my music on here. I need music. When I do this stuff. It keeps me going. It's a tool in my creativity belt. And I feel like when I'm listening to that, I might be shouting in the microphone. So if I am too loud or the music's too loud, always feel free to put in the comments so I know I can change levels. What did I miss? Oh man, oh, you, you, I, you know, I just, I sold a painting live on air, $2.3 million to a random buyer on YouTube who— I think it was Dutch or Danish or French, I don't know what language they wrote in, but they want— they bought a painting. So you didn't really miss too much, Deborah. Yeah, that's all. Not much. No, I'm kidding. That did not happen. Imagine that. Um, that did not happen. All right, Murder's in the Building. Yes, I've seen— I saw the first episode of that. I would love to see that. Um, I love Steve Martin, Martin Short, great cast. Selena Gomez, I have never ever seen her acting, but I know she's a really, really good singer. Oh no, I saw her acting in, uh, when she was little in that witches show. Which is of place, Waverly Place, which is of Waverly Place. You are talking normal. Thank you. Tell that to my students in high school. They would definitely say I don't talk normal. Uh, you guys are awesome. Let me play the song. I am all hyped up because, you know, I, I just love creativity. It's so fun. Community is fun. Here we go, Whistling Cowboy time. Hey guys, thank you so much for watching. I really appreciate you all. Um, yeah, so this is our Whistling Cowboy sketch for the night. Uh, just one quick note about this, so this paper is really thin. It's not really meant for watercolors, but I want to throw some water down there, just do some bleeding on it. And it didn't go through, uh, so which is a good sign. You guys are awesome. And it looks like Kim popped on. Hey Kim, good to see you. Hope all's well in Kimland today. Um, I appreciate you popping in. I am popping out though, but feel free to watch the reruns. Uh, the rerun, like I'm in syndicated reruns or something, like I Love Lucy. Could you imagine that? Can you imagine I Love Lucy still running after how many years? One day, one day I'll have a syndicated show, maybe. At least in my brain, at least up here. A syndicated show in my brain. Yeah, that's a cool sunset. I like the pink sunset on there. You guys know I like to sketch with markers, with highlighters I mean. So I just threw some highlighter down on there. This is my favorite highlighter. I got it from Target. I can't find them anymore. If anybody ever sees them, let me know. It's the Up and Up brand, which I believe is a Tar— I'm sorry, Walmart— Target. I don't even know what I said. It's a Target brand. Um, love this highlighter and I don't have any more of them. So if you see any out there, let me know. You guys are awesome. Thank you so much, Patty and Kim and Linda and Donna and Becky and Deborah, Laura. I don't even know who else. If I didn't say your name, I'm sorry, but you guys are all awesome. Have a great— great night. Linda, I know, was on also. See you guys soon. Take care. Peace. And live creatively. See you real soon. And thank you for sharing. And be sure to check out the link for my YouTube channel on here. If you're on YouTube, I would love for you to subscribe to my channel. Let's get it up to 100 people so we can get that cool YouTube channel name, the Inspired Life name. That would be fun. Take care, guys. Good night. We'll see you soon. This, this young whippersnapper has to go to school tomorrow. Take care. Oh, and Jean was on. And Jean
