Hey there, Patty, how are you? Hope you're having a great, great night tonight. Hope you're having a great—
hope you had a great day.
Good to see you.
I'm just popping on randomly and I just felt like doing some sketching tonight for a few minutes. Oh yeah, tax, sales tax, that sounds fun. Yowch. Well, I'm glad your day is getting better. That's awesome. Anything tax related is never fun.
I hear you.
I hear you for sure. So I'm just doing some ink and water sketching right now. I'm using my I use one of these, either my Precise Pilot Point or my Uni-ball pen. And I just have the water brush, just kind of painting with the ink a little bit.
It's not getting quite the effect I want, so I think I'm actually going to break out—
hmm.
Grab me the graphite.
I was just thinking I kind of want a gray, gray tone.
Yeah, I guess we'll go with the graphite. There we go.
Yeah, the graphite is working. That's looking better.
That's more the effect I was going for.
The pen wasn't bleeding as much as I was hoping it would.
Okay.
Cool. Yeah, thank you, Cool Sketch. It blends amazingly well with a little water. Yeah, it does. It works really, really well.
I love this stuff.
It's definitely, um, one of my go-tos for sure. Nice effect. Thank you.
I appreciate that.
Thank you for sharing those pictures the other day. Some really, really cool architecture. Oh wow, thank you, that's good feedback. That's so cool. Kojiru Bird in Birdhouse City said your tips and perspective helped her hugely. Oh, thank you for the feedback, that's so awesome to hear.
I appreciate that.
That's great. I'm glad I could help out.
Awesome, awesome, awesome sauce.
Very cool. Yeah, I've been trying to work on perspectives. I was playing around with this piece yesterday here, creating a little perspective sketch. So just practicing, trying to figure out the best way I can start to explain it. Easiest way I can explain what I try to do in perspectives.
Um, so I'm just kind of working that out a little bit.
I'm glad it worked.
Uh-oh, I feel a sneeze coming on.
Excuse me. Achoo!
Excuse me.
Must be the, uh, everything blooming outside. Cutting the grass and all that. It's all good. Spring is here in New Jersey and I love it.
No complaints.
Hey Janice, how are you? Thank you Janice, I appreciate that. Good to see you. Hey, Linda, how's it going? Good to see you also. Bless you, Janice. It's definitely the spring. I was out cutting the grass today.
It's great to be outside. I love the fresh air.
So that's awesome. It's great to see you guys. Thanks for popping in. So I'm sketching— well, actually, I'm going to let you guys guess. Can anybody tell me What book am I thinking about? What book inspired the sketch? Bless you both. Yeah, thank you. So I had a book in mind when I was sketching this and it's been turned into a movie as well, a couple versions. Hey Chris, how are you? What a polite community. Everybody's blessing each other back, you know.
Let's just keep sneezing all night.
Who knew that sneezing could lead to such positive things, right? Positive blessing each other.
It's all good.
Hey, Sandra, how are you? Thanks for joining us tonight. So feel free to sneeze, everybody. Spring's here, allergies, things are blooming. It's a good sneeze. It's not like a cold.
It's a spring sneeze. So you guys are awesome.
Good to see you, Chris. I'm glad you're doing well. You guys are so cool. No clue. Linda says, "No clue what the book is." Yeah, it might not be incredibly obvious. It's obvious to me because I knew what I was sketching. Hey, Karen, how are you?
Good to see you.
So yeah, it's a children's book. I might venture to say it's an adult book as well. I'll give you some hints. Again, this is my total take on it, my imagination. Something I revisit. I've made something in Legos out of it. I have an idea in my brain I'm trying to get out for this. So it's a children's book. It's been made into a movie.
Two different versions as far as I know.
No, not Harry Potter.
Good guess, Linda. Good guess.
I don't know if you can see this. I gotta drink. I'm drinking some ginger lemon tea and it's hitting the spot.
So bear with me.
I'm sorry, guys.
So maybe, I don't know if this is supposed to be a whimsical W. Whimsical W. It's a factory building. This is a very loose, whimsical interpretation of a glass elevator. So I don't know if you can get it with those clues: glass elevator, a W, and a factory. Hey, Patty, that's cool! I'm live on YouTube too. Who knew? Who knew? I am all over the place. YouTube, Facebook, FaceTube, YouBook, put them all together. Yeah, I'm hoping maybe YouTube will catch on, we'll get some people watching there. You guys are always awesome on Facebook, I appreciate it. Willy Wonka, we have a winner! Ding, ding, ding, ding! Yeah, you guys got it. Linda, I see you got it first. Sandra, you got it too. Yeah, so I have this kind of fascination with Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I've created several different sketches of kind of my interpretation, how I might picture the factory to look, the architecture. You know, this isn't based on anything you've seen in the movie, it's just all coming from my pure imagination. See what I did there?
My pure imagination. Is that one of the songs?
So yeah, Willy Wonka. So I thought it'd be fun just to kind of get this out. I did a really cool LEGO factory of Willy Wonka as well. Yeah, you know, Janice, both versions. I really love both versions too.
They're so different. If I had to pick one, it would be the original, the Gene Wilder one.
That would be my favorite. But I actually do love both movies because they're so different.
It's so cool that you said that.
Yeah, so that's exactly what— I think I'm going to leave this black and white. I was thinking about popping on some color, but I'm going to leave it like this for now. I don't know how much more I'll add to this one. You know, there comes a point where sometimes you add for me where I start adding too much stuff.
So my brain's saying maybe leave it. I'm just gonna go over some lines, just add some, just pull out a little bit more with ink here, make like some jagged roof edges. Maybe there's some kind of a metal roof on there. This is a metal roof coming down in here.
Yes, the best song.
Yeah, I won't sing Pure Imagination, but that is a great, great Great song. Absolutely. I can hum it.
Great song. Never saw it, but it's my daughter's favorite. That is so cool.
Well, Sandra, if you ever get a chance, try to catch it. I would catch the Gene Wilder one. Start with that one first.
Such a cool movie.
The story, I've read the book and the book is pretty good. It's very interesting. It has a lot of good lessons in it to learn about manners and things.
Oompa Loompa, yeah, I was— I'm still, you know, one thing I still hesitate to do is add characters and stuff to my drawings.
I should get there.
It would be kind of cool to draw some little Oompa Loompas somewhere. "It's a few seconds faster over there." You said Willy Wonka over there first. Oh, so YouTube is faster than Facebook.
Interesting. Interesting.
I know there's a time delay with both. I'm gonna pull these chimney stacks out a little bit more. I think I'm gonna break out the Sharpie to do that. Sharpie time! Hey guys, it's Sharpie time right here.
Sharpie time.
Hopefully I grabbed one that's working. No, this one's not working.
Kind of is.
There we go. So I just want to pull out this chimney a little bit, just darkening the edges. And my Sharpie's not really working. There we go. There we go. It's supposed to be like a little delivery truck down here.
Very loose, very sketchy.
Cool.
This is a fun little sketch. I can show the chat from Facebook and YouTube in the chat on YouTube. Really? The Facebook chats have a Facebook label.
Interesting.
Hey, that's kind of cool, Patty. That's really interesting. I didn't know that.
Thank you for telling me.
It's good to know how it works on the other side.
"The elevator can go anywhere." Yeah, you know, this glass elevator could go anywhere.
It can go upways and sideways and forwards and backwards and downwards and frontwards and all kinds of directions. I forget what they say in the movie, but I know he says something like that. It's got all kinds of buttons inside. It's just one of those movies that has stuck with me ever since I was a kid.
I'm still a kid. I'm still a child at heart.
Nothing wrong with remaining a child at heart, right?
It's all good.
I think this one might be okay for now. I'm contemplating adding some sepia in the background to pop the buildings. Hmm, I think I might go for it.
I think I might go for it. Do I want to use my Magic Solution? I still have some left. It's getting low. Or do I want to use my Sepia Marker? Watercolor marker, which is here.
Hmm, choices, choices.
Decisions, decisions. I think I'm gonna go with the CPM marker.
But I need a little scrap paper to mix it on. I took my other palette off I had up here. Just grab—
let me see if I can put it on one of these and lift it off of this. Let's do it.
Elevator, it's a very busy chat screen.
I'll post a screenshot here.
Cool, yeah, thank you, Patty. Yeah, I can actually log on to YouTube too and check it out. Maybe I'll do that. You know what's funny? As I said check it out, I'm not kidding, guys. I'm listening to John Mellencamp and he has a song that's called "Check It Out." I can show you right here. When I said check it out, the song "Check It Out" started playing. Siri didn't do that.
That was really creepy. Wow.
Alright, yeah, I'm gonna just for kicks, I'm gonna put on my computer here and put YouTube on. So I'm gonna put some sepia on this, guys, and I think I'll do one more quick sketch tonight and I'm gonna wrap at 9. 9 sharp. I have to hold myself to it. A schedule, because otherwise I'll go to midnight. Yeah, Serendipity. Something gold to represent the golden wrapper.
Ooh, Janice, that's a clever idea. Janice, that—
you know what, I do have right here, I have this paint, it's watercolor ink, it's gold. I can't read the first word, it's like Quindro something.
Gold.
That actually might be a cool idea. Maybe we'll try using this gold color on here. I like that.
It's a very busy chat screen.
Well, I hope it's busy with people saying nice things. I hope—
I don't know.
Are people, are peeps watching on YouTube? Hey, if you're watching on YouTube, hello. Oh, I see it says Restream Bot. Yes. I see how it's posting everybody's comments from Facebook. That's cool. Very, very cool. Yeah, if you're on Facebook, make sure you like the video, give me a thumbs up so other people can find it and watch it. If you guys are on Facebook, feel free to share it, get some other people watching. Invite your friends, invite your friends or your worst enemies, whoever you want to send my way. You know, some of my kids think I'm horrible, some think I'm great.
I'm just kidding.
Alright, so let's try this gold color.
I'm curious. I might do it on a scrap piece of paper first, just to get my confidence up.
I could do it on the back of this sketch. Let's try it on the back of here and see what it looks like.
And let me just go— I'm just opening my music here for a second. Hmm, what do I want to play next? Cool, I'm going to listen to some music soundtrack music. Music soundtrack music? I just said music twice in a row.
Alright, so I'm going to test out the gold color on the back of this sheet of paper. I'm just curious to see what it looks like. I think I have to shake it up a little bit more. I like the idea of gold. That's pretty cool. Thank you, Chris. I'm glad you love the sketch. That's awesome. Yeah, I'm liking it a lot, to be honest with you.
That's why I want to test the gold out before I actually put it on here.
I think it'll look fine. There are lots of labels, names, Facebook, Restream Bot. Yeah, so Restream Bot is like a, uh, that's the software that's sending the Facebook comments to your YouTube. So I'm curious if people are on YouTube and comment, if it's going to come back this way. Actually, it says I'm offline on YouTube.
That's something weird going on. Oh, the technology. Let me open this up.
I'm just trying to build suspense about the gold paint.
Is it working? See how I'm just kind of procrastinating, building up suspense? What will this gold paint look like?
Will it be gold?
All right, that should be good. Let's try it. What brush do I want to use? I guess we'll just use— stick with the same brush we've been using.
I love these water aqua brushes.
I seem to be using them more and more.
Oh yeah, it's got like a— it's got a gold tint to it. It might look different on the watercolor paper.
That's why I should try it on the watercolor paper. Silly me.
You know what? Let's do it. I'm gonna take a picture in black and white and then I'm gonna add the gold to it. Good suggestion.
Let's grab a shot of this.
Perfect.
Alright, let's put some gold on here.
Where did I put it?
Here it is. This will be fun. I kind of want to put it on with bigger brush strokes, so I'm going to pour a little bit out into a container and use a bigger brush, my 3/4-inch brush.
So, got my handy dandy little Pringles containers in here.
They all have stuff in them, so that won't work. So we'll grab a paper cup. Paper cups are all—
I'm afraid the paint's going to mix with them. Oh boy.
I gotta improvise. Improvise.
I have a lid.
I have a lid here. This will work.
So I'm just going to pour a little bit in this lid and This is what it looks like out of the container. Let me get a nice 3/4-inch brush and we'll brush it on with that.
Let me grab some clean water in case I need it. Whew!
Alright, let's do it. Got my cloth here to wipe off my brush. "Is the gold acrylic ink?" The gold is actually watercolor ink.
It's watercolor ink.
Can you guys see my screen? I think my face is in the way. Sorry, guys. If my face is annoying—
that sounded funny.
If my face is annoying, let me know. I'll turn it off.
You guys, I'm sure it's much more important to see what I'm drawing than me on camera. So just let me know if you prefer that, for me to turn it off.
Here we go. And it's okay if I go over the ink.
It doesn't have to be perfect.
It's kind of my style.
I'm not trying to keep clean, perfect lines here.
Yeah, I'm liking this. It's okay if you see the brush marks on here. I like it. I like seeing where it's overlapping in some places.
Let's just have fun with it.
I mean, I don't want to go over the entire building, but it's okay if I hit the edges a little bit. So this is my— this is a 3/4-inch wide brush, which is my go-to size. I like the 3/4-inch. It's wide.
I don't think about detail when I'm using it. I'm just thinking about laying down color with it. Add a little bit more of this on here. Actually put just a tad bit of water on here. Just wanna dilute it a smidge.
It's actually looking pretty cool. Good suggestion with the gold. Right, see how by adding the gold it's starting to make—
it makes the building pop out a little bit more?
That's what I was going to try to do with the sepia. I just wanted the building to pop. It has this little building back here that's popping too.
Just looking on camera, it's actually looking pretty cool. Let's see.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, I'm really liking this. This is awesome.
I always feel weird saying that about my— when I'm happy with something, but this is actually a really cool-looking piece. I don't think I'm going to do the ground. I think I'm going to leave it at that. I mean, I like the gold. It separates kind of the ground area from the sky. Again, it's okay if it overlaps in areas.
I like that.
It's adding to the wonkiness. Ha, you get it? Wonka.
The wonkiness, the wonkiness of the building.
I'm going to put the gold away because I don't want to do any more and get too carried away.
Cool!
That's fun.
What a fun little piece.
I got some extra gold on here, so I'll just put it on— I'll just put it on this piece I was messing around with yesterday. Don't want to waste the gold. So I was just messing around with it. I had some extra gold, so I was just putting it on here. This is actually Mylar paper.
It's not tracing paper, but it's—
you can see through it a little bit. I was practicing some perspectives yesterday. I thought it would be fun to just throw some gold on there since I had some left. Right, it's always cool to play around and see, you know, with what you got. Rather than—
I didn't want to waste this paint in here. Something just made a sound, my phone or something. Neighborhood alert! What?
Subfreezing temperatures as low as 29 degrees tonight. I just got a notification on my phone.
Holy cow, we're gonna have sub-freezing temperatures tonight.
Glad I didn't plant anything.
That's a surprise.
It was beautiful, it was like almost 70 today.
Cool.
Alright, let me check in with you guys in the comments here. What's going on? Chris trying to do a couple things while I'm listening, but I'm here, yay! I'm glad you're listening. Karen, I love the color. Yeah, Karen, it looks really cool.
It did come out awesome, thank you.
Perfectly perfect imperfections, I love that, Linda.
Perfectly perfect imperfections.
So that's interesting. So that's the series I'm working on is these sketches. Here's just one of them. But the series I'm working on with these sketches, this is called The Land of Imperfection. That's the working title of the book I'm working on.
The Land of Imperfection.
It's cool that you said that. Hey, Dre, wow, thank you! That blue would look awesome on that. Oh yeah, yeah, that blue would be cool. This blue is— actually, you know what blue, Chris, this is actually markers. I was playing around with my AD markers on this paper yesterday. So it came out, it looks pretty cool on this vellum paper. But yeah, that would look good on here. Um, love that gold. Yeah, thank you, Patty. Me too. Brownies?
Oh man, you're killing me, Jason.
Brownies sound delicious. I love you guys. You're here, you're like doing other stuff, listening. I can't ask for more than that. I appreciate it. You guys are amazing. HS1, hello, hi, welcome, welcome. You're on YouTube, thanks for watching on YouTube, that's awesome, I appreciate it. Um, 70 earlier NYC, ah, what a beautiful day in NYC, holy cow.
Yeah, it was beautiful here in New Jersey as well.
Snow tonight in Pennsylvania, really?
This weather is insane.
Oklahoma had snow today? You're right, that color makes the building pop. Yeah, it does, it pops out. I'll get a close-up shot and show you guys. Purple or violet is the complement of that shade of gold. Hmm, maybe we'll play around with some colors on the next sketch. I don't know if it'll be— it might not be a Wonka sketch, but I'm trying to think if I have purple. You know, I do.
I have ink over here somewhere. Where is it? Here.
So I actually have some acrylic ink. I have Deep Violet. Hey Violet, you're turning violet.
Violet, you're turning violet.
Violet. Isn't that Willy Wonka? Violet, you're turning violet. Violet now. So yeah, maybe we'll play around with those colors. I don't think I'm going to add it to this. I like just the two, the gray and black and the gold. But we'll mess around. I'm going to do one more sketch tonight before I wrap up. So is that dry? Yeah, I think that's fairly dry. So let me Let's see, maybe we'll just do a little color study on this page here.
So, what should I sketch?
Let me just grab— we'll just do my typical kind of Sharpie loosey-goosey kind of freeform sketch and then we'll just play around with some colors on it. Alright, I'm gonna change Mr. Mellencamp.
I had enough of Mr. Mellencamp for now.
Sorry, Mr. Mellencamp.
I don't want my iPhone shuffling the music. I don't have it on shuffle.
Oh man, okay, here we go. Got it. Let's do some sketching and then we'll add some color to it. Maybe I'll play around with Wonka, maybe I'll try something, maybe I'll try to do a little factory sketches. I don't know. We'll just see. I don't want to pre-plan.
I just want to go for it, see what happens.
I don't know why, but I just feel like sketching a bell shape for some reason. Who knows why? It's all good. May not even end up being a bell, but I feel like doing a little bell curve type of thing. Hope you guys can see this okay. There we go. So I just have my Sharpie, just free sketching, just doing some kind of forms on here. Maybe some kind of bell, maybe some kind of clock or something in the background. Not really sure where this is headed, but we'll get some ink down and, uh, then we'll play around with the colors, the gold and then the violet.
We'll just see what happens.
Alright, cool. Alright, so we have some shapes on here.
Let's put some color on. Alright, not yet.
I want to add some more lines. My hand's like, "No, put some more lines on there.
Don't color yet." So my brain and hands are saying, so I'm going to go with them.
They want to— Pen wants to keep moving, let's keep moving it around.
It's all good, right?
Oh, it's 9:01.
All right, I'm gonna get this one, wrap this one up. I have a summative test I gotta get ready for tomorrow for my CAD class.
We have— we're asynchronous Wednesday, which is cool, so the kids— we don't have to log on virtually. I'm home tomorrow, the kids are home tomorrow, but They do have schoolwork to do, so I can make a little— make a test for them. It's actually almost done.
I just got to put it on Google Classroom so they can log in tomorrow and take their test.
They are doing hand drafting, so they are drawing things the old school way using triangles and rulers, not the computer to draw something. So I gave them a floor plan to recreate the old-school way by hand. We'll see how well they do. Alright, cool. Alright, let's do some color now.
Alright, so we have—
let me break out that gold again, which is here. Can you guys see everything on screen?
Yep, looks good.
Hey, Patty, how are you? Good to see you. Wish I could get things off the top of my head.
I need a reference.
Hey, Patty, no worries. It's all good. I use references too, especially if I'm trying to recreate an existing building or a scene, you know, something specific. I'll definitely look at references. But if I'm just sketching loosey-goosey quick, I just kind of use my imagination to pull stuff out. It's something, you know, it's taken a long time to do this and to be confident to just put pen to paper and go for it. I think of it as just playtime and creativity time. Alright, so that's what the gold looked like here, just so you guys can see that again. So the purpose of this piece now is just to play with the colors, you know? Someone had, I don't remember who said purple was a good contrasting color. Oh, Karen said it. So Karen, based on your suggestion, I'm going to do that. Sandra, middle school draft person, love it. That is awesome. Old school drafting is definitely an art form and since I started teaching it in CAD class the last 2 years, it's something I really want to get back into.
It's totally an art form.
I was drawing everything. I didn't— I started using CAD about— how many? I'm trying to think of way back now.
I've been an architect for 20 years.
I guess I've been using CAD for 20, 18, say 18 years. Other than that, you know, through college and my first job, I would, everything was hand-drafted. I have some really cool hand-drafted plans that I've kept all these years. They're not because I did them, but I think they're artworks. They're just so beautiful to look at.
Even the hand lettering was, I used to use a triangle and a ruler and a T-square to do all the lettering on the drawings.
Alright, Mr. Tom Petty came on and he's always fun to paint too, so let's just go for it.
Let's just throw on some color.
Again, I'm not worried about what's underneath, I just want to throw color on here. I'm going to be quick with it, so I'm not really thinking about it too much.
I'm just using my 3/4-inch brush because I want to throw down the color.
I'm going to be very abstract.
Throw it, just throw it down.
It's a color throwdown.
I hope you're ready. Purple, purple, I don't know, maybe I'll throw some in here.
I might overlap the purple and gold and see what it looks like when They overlap each other. So I'm just gonna use whatever I have in this lid, and that's all the gold I'll throw down on here. I'm gonna make it darker in some places.
I'm gonna change my brush strokes. Throw some maybe down here a little bit more.
Cool.
Throw some a little bit heavier there.
Okay. Alright, so I have the gold on there. I'm actually gonna get a different brush. Let me grab one of these. And I'm gonna close this so I don't knock it over.
And let's throw down some purple. Let me grab some, uh, this tea. This is a good tea. It's a lemon ginger tea.
Okay.
And it's caffeine-free. I'm just looking for something to put the purple in. Actually, I can put it in here, I think. Yeah, this will be good. So I'll put some purple in here.
So this is acrylic ink, the purple. The gold was watercolor ink. I wish— I honestly don't even know what the difference is, to be honest with you.
I don't even know if there is a huge difference.
I know I'd like to use them both. Something I should probably look up sometime.
I'm guessing— I don't know, I'm not gonna guess.
Alright, let's throw down some purple.
This is Deep Violet.
So I'm going to overlap it in some places. I want to see what it looks like when the colors— when one's over the other. I'm going to put it thick in some places so it's really purpley.
Maybe I'll do this building in purple.
So it should dry lighter than it's going on.
It's so purple, it's so dark, I can't see the Sharpie underneath.
But when it dries, I'll probably be able to see it.
I don't want to— I'm trying to be too careful. I don't want to really be careful.
I don't like when my paintbrushes split. Sometimes it's cool for effects, but I In this case, I don't really want it to do that, so I'm going to put it in the water and I'm just going to grab my brush pen. Maybe I'll use—
I mean, if I was careful, I could have maybe used the purple to create some shadows, but again, I'm just— it's just a color throwdown. I'll just draw these cross bracing things. I'll be purple. Oops.
So yeah, I'm just playing around. I'm actually liking the part— I'm liking the most on this whole piece is right here. This is—
I like this.
I think the color is a little too blue, purple here. I like what's happening in this part of the painting. So that's why it's good when you play around to throw down your paint, whether it's watercolor or acrylic, throw it down thicker in some places and thinner. When I say thinner, maybe you could add more water to dilute it. And just play around with different thicknesses and you'll get different effects. Overlap colors and see if you like it or not. That's what color play is about, just kind of messing around and see what happens.
Yeah, so, you know, next time maybe I will just be a little more careful. If I like this color scheme, I'll you know, I'll color things with a little more intention. Just want to darken this a little bit.
I threw it down way too heavy, but it is really bright and intense.
It's a beautiful color here.
I like what's happening here.
I'll hold this up so you guys can see it better.
So my favorite part on this whole piece right now is I love what's happening with the colors in here. I kind of like the soft— I like that I can see the ink through there, the Sharpie. I have to say, this is actually— as it's drying, I'm really—
oh, this is blurry. Let me sharpen it.
As this is drying over here, I really love what's happening.
This looks really beautiful. That's really cool. For sure. So all kinds of different effects going on with just these two different colors, right? Awesome. Yeah, so I really love this. I think that's enough purple on there for now. Close it up so it doesn't dry out.
Okay, we got that going.
I'm just brushing on a little bit more of the gold color. And I think I'm going to come back and put some more ink on it. We'll just sketch a couple more shapes.
You know what, let's use—
what didn't I use yet?
Sharpies aren't always great for when you have a wet page or a damp page.
I find Sharpies don't really go on there too well, so I'm just going to use my Pilot Precise Pen and throw down some ink.
I'm just going to add some lines on this.
Ooh, it's not actually going down here too well.
It's okay.
It's actually cool.
What I'm doing is I'm using a Sharpie.
I'll show you. I don't know if you can see this.
I was just using a Sharpie, and it's actually pulling off, scratching through, so you can get some white kind of streaks there.
With paper underneath. It's interesting.
I'm just adding some more lines back to this.
I kind of lost them with the purple. So I just want to pull out the shape of this a little bit.
I just want to embellish it.
That's a fancy word, embellish.
I just want to embellish it.
Embellish, embellish. Cool.
You know what I feel like doing?
Throwing out— I'm getting really crazy, guys. I'm living on the edge now.
I want to put some graphite on this. I feel like this is gonna have a point where it's just gonna all come together into something cool. All right, let me see.
Uh, how you guys doing? Hi, let me get the comments. You started working at engineering firm, my husband met my— oh, that's so cool, Linda. Linda, that's awesome. I love that story. Would love to learn CAD. Yeah, Sandra, that really, that would be awesome. Yeah, that's so cool. I could definitely talk to you guys more about CAD and some stuff about it if you're interested, for sure. Ooh, that long? You're too young. Who, me? I'm too young? I'm a young one.
So I didn't learn about CAD, I didn't even know you could use computers to draw architecture until I was in, I'm thinking back.
My senior— no, no, I was going to say senior year of college. It was probably either my freshman or sophomore year of college is when I started to learn about AutoCAD. I didn't actually start using it until after college.
I never officially took classes in school about it, so I'm pretty much self-taught with it.
You like the thin wash. Yeah, so I love the thin wash. Yep, I'm with you. You like the bell and Darker Side.
The darker side. I'm listening to Batman, the dark side. Why isn't my music playing? My music.
That's so weird, guys.
Oh, I really need music to create. Oh, my battery's dying in my AirPods. Hmm. Sorry, I'm letting the tech distract me. It's important. This is important to the creative process for me.
Sometimes I could really create well in a very quiet and peaceful—
there's no sound. But sometimes I need the music to keep me inspired. I don't know why it stopped playing.
Hmm.
Weird. My volume button's— sorry guys, I'm having a little tech here.
Oh, there we go. Maybe I'm being too impatient with the tech. Alright, so I'm gonna put down some graphite.
I wanna do some things with graphite here quick.
This is the last sketch I'm gonna be able to do tonight. Not that I don't want to keep sketching, because I could— you guys know me, I could keep going all night doing this.
Here we go.
Alright.
This is fun.
So I'm kind of just grunging it up. I like to do, you know, these kind of grunge-ify some sketching and painting. It's an aesthetic I really love and Something I keep practicing and practicing.
I'm going to put a little bit up in here around this like clock face. I want to pull out the clock circle a little bit, add some shadows in here. I like this clock tower, this clock piece, a lot.
So maybe this is like a time—
there's a time theme with this, right? We have a clock. I'm gonna call this like a little clock tower up here. We have a bell, so maybe it's a bell from a clock tower or something. So maybe this piece has some kind of time theme that we could look at and work into it.
You know, it's fun to see a piece come together randomly and then trying to figure out a theme that fits it. Sometimes I don't do that, it's just abstract and random, but I felt like this could go in a direction.
So, something—
it has something to do with time.
Maybe forgotten time, I don't know, because there's kind of overgrown down here, things growies, kind of dark buildings in the background, wonky brickwork, maybe a factory.
So maybe this is like the factory that time forgot. Maybe this can actually tie back to the Wonka factory idea.
Right, so we have the Wonka factory, and then maybe it's been abandoned for many, many, many years, and this is kind of an homage to, you know, the factory that, uh, whatever I said about time, the factory that ran out of time or something.
I don't know, I'm just trying to tie together a story in my brain of how these two pieces from tonight can connect together. Oh, what does it say?
"The factory that time forgot." So maybe the factory shut down, it's been abandoned.
And this could be an homage to it.
Maybe there's some cityscape in the background. I could, if I wanted to, sketch somehow, bring this elevator, glass elevator piece into here.
So I'm just thinking out loud. That's kind of how my brain works sometimes, you guys. Awesome. Let me look at the comments and we'll wrap up for the night. Appreciate you guys watching as always. Alright, so what do we have? If I miss your comment, I'd like to come back and go through them, so if I don't see your comment or anything, you ask a question, I'll try to find it, see it. Appreciate you guys understanding if I miss some stuff. You guys are awesome. I love all this stuff going on in here. So, "Until watching you, I didn't realize setting graphite was a technique. I like the idea." Yeah, so I'm glad you saw that, Patty. I have been using this for 2, 3 years. The more I use it, the more I love it. So it's definitely a go-to for me. Cool. "Love these colors, and since I missed all the discussion, it looks like a brunette lady doing a yoga pose in a gazebo." and I love it.
What?
A yoga lady doing a— right here, a yoga lady doing a pose in a gazebo. Hey, I can see that. That's so funny. I'll hold it up closer. I love you guys seeing stuff. Yeah, I can see kind of the yoga pose going on here. That's awesome. I love your artistic creativity. Your vision. That's so funny. Now that you said it, I can totally see that. That's why I love doing these kind of abstract pieces. Everybody sees something different. That's awesome. That's so cool. Right? Can you guys— I'll hold it up. You guys can definitely see it now that—
who said that?
Dawn said that. Hey Dawn. Yeah, yeah, isn't that—
that's so funny.
I'll hold it up so you guys can see that. That's awesome. You made my night with that comment.
And she's wearing her purple velour jumpsuit.
Yes, she is. Right here. Head, she's kind of doing the pose here. That's awesome. That's so cool. You guys are amazing. Dawn, good discovery. You see her too, Linda. We could rename it. We can call it the Purple Velour Yoga Lady or something. I don't know.
Come up with a name.
Awesome, guys. So I'm going to do the wrap-up for the night because I got to finish my schoolwork for my homework for my kids' test tomorrow. So yeah, so we started with this quick sketch tonight. Oh, as always, please leave comments or takeaways in the chat. You guys are awesome at doing that. I love to know what you got out of tonight by listening or watching or chatting with each other. Yes, definitely leave some feedback or comments. That's always fun to see. Share this with your friends. If you're on YouTube, make sure if you like it, that would be cool. Facebook as well.
I'd love to get more and more people partaking.
So yeah, so we start off with this quick sketch. I did tonight, I did have kind of a vision in mind when it came to the first sketch. Most of the time I don't. I kind of knew I wanted to do something factory related. As I was doing factory, I started thinking Willy Wonka. I'm a huge fan.
I've done many renditions of factories in my imagination.
So it turned into like a Willy Wonka factory. We had some comments and then the gold paint.
I forget who said the gold paint. I apologize, but whoever said the gold paint, that was a great idea.
Maybe it was Patty, if not with someone else. I appreciate it.
Yeah, because I was gonna do a sepia background, but I like that you said gold, and fortunately I had the gold right here, so that worked out perfect. So that was cool.
And then we did— went to here because you guys were talking about purple being complementing to gold, complementary.
So we just—
the idea of this was just a study in color and playing with it. Different techniques, some darker areas, we did some more washed out areas here. Throw some graphite onto it. We have the yoga lady down there. That's amazing, you saw that. And I just wanted to, you know, I ended up wanting to turn it into some kind of a scene.
Cool.
And we, I, in my brain, I tied it back to here, but we can, maybe, maybe Charlie, maybe this is Charlie from the Chocolate Factory.
I don't know if he's brunette, he has to get blonde hair. Doing yoga in the factory. Time forgot.
Alright, you guys are awesome. Thank you so much. Hey, Becky, how are you? I'm just heading out, but thank you for tuning in, Becky. I appreciate it. You guys are awesome. If you had to pick one tonight, guys, actually, Becky, since you don't know the story of any of these, I want you guys to pick. Would you, do you like this one better? The Factory, or we'll call this the Yoga Lady painting. Do you guys like The Factory or the— this is now— I cannot stop seeing The Yoga Lady now.
That's so funny.
The Yoga Lady or Factory. You guys let me know and then I'll take a look. And then we'll wind down. Oh my gosh, that's awesome. And I will—
I'm looking for the cap to this. Oh my gosh.
"Love the shadows on the bell shape." Linda! Yeah, thank you, yeah. It's actually cool. I like the way this is drying. I really— I'm really loving the colors here. I still— my two favorite parts are still this, and I love the light, more transparent colors there. Well, I definitely need to watch the beginning. Yeah, Becky, it's a very interesting session tonight. Wow, this was— you guys, I don't even know what to say. Good stuff, good stuff. Charlie is looking for— yeah, there you go. Charlie is kind of blonde hair. So Charlie is looking for the golden ticket. I got Charlie lost his original golden ticket, right? He inherited the factory, but he's come back many years later in the Wonka-vator to find his original artifact, the gold ticket that he left and forgot. So the factory's now abandoned.
He's looking for his ticket. This is when Charlie was taken off and he discovered that he had won the factory and now he's back.
Bam! That's how we're tying these together. Or this could be an Oompa Loompa doing yoga who was— he found the golden ticket and he's picking it up after all these years. I love that. So we got the bell, bell I see. Yoga lady, yoga lady, wow! This one's winning so far. It's hard to pick. Didn't even burn the brownies.
Can you smell them?
No, but I definitely could— I would love a brownie. Do you make your brownies so they're really chewy and fudgy, or are they more crispy?
Or crispy tops and chewy inside?
Let me know. Patty's, we got 1 for the factory, 2 for the factory. The Yoga Lady's winning. "I'm a sucker for purple and a variety of shapes are so cool. It sounds like the Yoga Lady painting is winning. I think we'll see the factory again. It needs more colors." Yeah, you know, I could show you guys if you want, if you have time. I could pull up a screenshot of actually a digital image I did of the factory.
Let me see if I can find it.
If you guys are interested, I'm going to pull it up and share my screen. Let me—
I'm trying to think of where I posted it.
Oh, I think it might be in my—
it might be in my store, might be in my gallery store. Let me take a look.
Yeah, so I could definitely— like I said, this, the Wonka Factory is a theme I keep revisiting, so you'll definitely see it again for sure. I'm hoping you'll see it in a more formal sort of way.
I have a dream to possibly be an illustrator, help to re-illustrate Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at some point in time. That is one of my bucket list items.
If not, we'll do— I'll do my own kind of story with not Wonka, but I could do something with factories.
So I'm just looking on screen here if I have that rendition in my store.
I thought I did.
So pardon me while I'm just looking online here. You guys might enjoy seeing it. Oh, you know what?
It's on my iPad.
I can just get my iPad too.
Duh. Let me look at my iPad, see if I can find it. Um.
Oh, here.
Here it is. I found it. So I don't know if you guys— let's see if you guys can see this. This is on my iPad. This is actually mixed media. It's digital and colored pencil. So this was a rendition I did of the Wonka Factory. It's got some funky colors on it. Again, I always like to bring the W into the sketch somehow. Bunch of smokestacks. So this has some color on it.
This is 2019, I did this one.
Haha, Linda Bucket List. You know what, I didn't even, I didn't even was trying to make a pun. That's so funny. Charlie Bucket. Yeah, I love that. Yeah, my bucket list. That's good. You guys are on fire! I didn't even— I'm like the pun master and that totally went over my head. That's so funny. So yeah, so this one.
Yeah, thanks.
So this was a fun piece. Again, this was digital and some colored pencil as well. And for one last bonus treat, since you guys have been so awesome today, I will show you my LEGO rendition. For no extra cost, since you've been an awesome, awesome, awesome community tonight out there, and you, the Inklings, you guys are on fire. This is, um, this is a LEGO rendition I made of a Little Wonka factory. So you can see the W, O, there is an N in the background, the K and the A.
A little factory in the front, some smokestacks and some smoke coming out. I can't bear to take this one apart.
So here's my LEGO interpretation. So, as you can see, this is a subject I think about a lot.
Hope you enjoyed this little factory. Now I want chocolate.
And one last, one last thing. Guys, I'm sorry, I hope I'm not boring you. This is a W I made using a laser cutter in school. So we have a laser cutter in my class, and we were charged with making a sign for our makerspace last year—
last school year, yeah.
So we were playing around, and—
oh, I have it backwards. So this is a letter W that I actually cut out of the laser cutter.
So I Again, back to the Wonka theme.
I'm always thinking about it. This actually came out pretty cool. It was a test piece.
It's a little wonky. Get it?
Wonky?
But I liked it so much I wanted to keep it. There you go.
Let's put it on top.
Alright, cool. Hey guys, that is now a wrap. I hope you had fun tonight. I had a blast, so thank you for your insights, your suggestions, your positivity, all that fun stuff. I'm sorry, I just realized the light glare has been there the whole time. Thank you, yeah, I do, yeah, I do love Wonka for sure. So thanks guys, you're amazing. I appreciate everybody so much. I appreciate your positivity. I love seeing your work, your creativity. You guys are on fire out there. You guys are so talented in so many areas that I can't even touch. I can't, I don't do animals, I can't do people. I shouldn't say can't.
I don't practice or I'm not really good at animals or people.
Other subjects, you know, Becky's small towns. Becky, shout out to you for that little small town piece you sent my way.
It's incredible.
I posted it on my book— my Facebook page.
And I do have it.
Well, I think I left it in the other room.
I was showing it off, so I don't have it in here.
But thank you for that. I really appreciate it.
And thank you for signing up for the workshop.
And thank you for— some of you other guys, thank you for signing up for the workshop.
I appreciate that.
It'll be fun. And we'll be talking about this kind of stuff, you know, loose style sketching.
Architecture stuff, so it'll be awesome.
Hey, you guys are great. Thank you so much. Have a great, great night. I have to go do some schoolwork. Peace. Live creatively. I will see you soon. I'm hoping if I get enough stuff done tomorrow, I'll be back tomorrow night. I'm gonna kind of leave it open right now. Take care, guys. Thanks again. Have a great night. Oh, the big W is for Wonka. Big W stands for Wonka.
That is what the big W is. I am not obsessed, I swear. I just love chocolate and Everlasting Gobstoppers.
Alright guys, have a great night.
Take care. Now I have to go listen to some Willy Wonka music.
