The Inkspired Life - Sketching & Painting : Inking Out Loud

In this informal live‑stream, artist Jason Nicholas (The Inkspired Life) greets his Facebook and YouTube audience, shares a brief personal update, and then demonstrates a quick, loose sketch of the Statue of Liberty using a variety of drawing and painting media. He experiments with Sharpies, graphite sticks, acrylic/copper ink, watercolor markers, a black watercolor crayon, and a Uni‑ball Vision Elite pen, commenting on the properties of each (e.g., metallic sheen of copper ink, dryness of Sharpies). Throughout the session he interacts with viewers—acknowledging names, praising their recent works (birds, goats, giraffes), answering spontaneous questions about technique (e.g., the role of white paper, layering), and encouraging creative community. The piece evolves into an abstract, colorful interpretation of Lady Liberty, with occasional references to previous works (fire‑tower piece, other Liberty sketches) and a playful “Native American tribute” variation. He signs the artwork, reflects on his daily sketching habit (maintaining a streak of daily practice), and closes with a motivational message about sharing creativity and “paying it forward.” The overall tone is conversational, enthusiastic, and supportive, aimed at fostering a relaxed creative space for his audience.

Hey, hello out there in Facebook land. Hope you're having a good, great night today. Happy Monday. I almost forgot what day it was. Happy Monday evening. Just popping on for a very short time tonight just to wind down the day. Hope your Monday was Fab, you did something amazing today. My Sharpie's running out of ink. This one's also running out. Either that or they're old and they're just all dried up. I don't know, it's possible. Hey Dawn, how are you? Good to see you. Hope you're having a great day today. Hey Chris, how are you? Good to see you. Hope you're having a great day today. Let's see, so I just broke out some colors here. I'm not sure, actually. I'm not sure, actually. I might try these watercolor markers. I have acrylic ink. I'm gonna try this first. I just need a scrap piece of paper. Here we go. I'm gonna mix some colors on it. There's another brush here. It's kind of discombobulated. I have things everywhere over here. There we go. Yeah, hmm, not sure what color is yet. I'm gonna put some graphite on here, I think. Play around with that for a little bit. Hey Kim, how are you? Hope you're having a great, great day today. Happy Monday. Soon to be happy Tuesday. Cool. So I'm just using, uh, some Sharpies out. I have a graphite stick, some water. Gonna throw down some sepia, I think, in the background. Hey Heather, how are you? Heather is in YouTube land. Hey, good to see you, Heather. How are things in YouTube these days? Hey, Kat, how are you? Hope you're having a great day. Donna, Karen, good to see you guys. Welcome to Inking Out Loud, the Monday night, May 10th edition. I think it's May 10th. Just winding down a little bit before bedtime. Haven't done any sketching or anything today, so I wanted to come on and just do a little bit of something. Just want to keep my streak going. I've been painting or sketching for a long— many, many, many days now. Not always live. On Facebook, but I've been doing a sketch, even if it's just a quick sketch, I've been doing something every day. I stopped counting. It's been a while, so I just want to keep in the groove. And sometimes it's fun just to pop on here at night, see who's on, say hello. So I hope you're all having a great day today. So I was just using some Cerulean Blue ink. Now I have some copper Copper or bronze, I'm not sure, hold on a sec. Copper, I have some copper acrylic ink out now. I like it because it has a little bit of reflection to it. Not reflection, I said the wrong word. It has a sheen to it, a metallic sheen to it. Not a martensian, a metallic sheen. Hey, Chris, you've been sketching birds. Awesome. So cool. Very, very nice. I have yet to make my foray into the animal kingdom. Closest I've gotten to a bird was an owl the other day. A really rough owl. But that's so cool. Maybe this summer I'll make some time to set some I just had some time, so I had to start doing— working on some animal sketches. We all know how my giraffe came out. So I definitely need to practice, practice, practice. Hey, Kim's been drawing and painting goats. That's awesome. So cool. Yeah, I've seen some— you guys are doing some really awesome paintings and stuff out there. I love the work you guys are doing. Keep up the inspiring creativity. Hey, I like how your shadowing is dramatic. I need more intensity to get depth in my work. Yeah, cool, Kim. Yeah, sometimes just go for it, right? Just put it on there. I'm using a black watercolor crayon. It can be really intense, so you gotta be careful. You can see it on here. This is just, you know, loose style, quick little fun piece here. I love the color of the— this is the water. What a beautiful color that is. So I'm just adding some pen work on top of this acrylic ink. This pen works pretty well, the Uni-ball Vision Elite. It's pretty good for adding right on top of acrylic ink. Sharpies, I don't always have the best luck with Sharpies for this. I've used Sharpies, but I think they're too dry. You need an ink that's a little bit more wet so it runs out. Cool! I think this one's good. I think this is done. Quick little homage to Statue of Liberty, little real quick loose interpretation. I love doing sketches of the Statue of Liberty in different styles and some abstract stuff, some more realistic things, some very loose sketches like this. And the idea is just to play around and just try to capture a form and be playful. Awesome. Cool. So I think with that, guys, I am gonna wrap up this quick little session, me and Mr. Bob Ross, who's visiting tonight. Got Mr. Ross here hanging out with me. Um, hey, doesn't hurt, right, to have some inspiration right here, right next to you. Um, so there he is, Mr. Inspirate. And you guys are inspiring out there as well. I hope everything is well. Hope you have a great, great Tuesday tomorrow. Here, I'll just look at this from a different angle. You know, you can see this is very loose, abstract. Pretty cool. Very different than this— I don't know where the other piece is. Ooh, looks like all my other stuff's Liberty Peace One. I'm not sure. I have a very abstract one up on the wall here. I think I've showed you guys this one before. Looks like it's upside down. Oop. There we are. So I have a very abstract Statue of Liberty here. I don't know if I can get a really good shot with this camera. Not really getting the whole thing in there, but that's another Statue of Liberty piece. Hanging on the wall there. Just messed up my camera. I always tune in at the end and then get the great finish shot. Awesome sketching. Hey, hey, Patty, thanks. Yeah, I wasn't really on that long tonight. Just popped on just to do a real quick sketch. Excuse me, I'm losing my voice. Allergies. Um, trying to zoom out. This camera's being wonky. See if I can focus it. Yeah, there you go. Quick little abstract piece. It was a lot of fun. Very different than the fire tower piece I did the last couple days, which was this one here. This is a very different type of piece. Piece. This was a very fun piece to create as well. I tried things I've really never tried before, trying to work with creating kind of smoky, flamey kind of colors going on here. I like the texture that came out on the paper. So that was a fun piece to create. I think this one's done. I don't think there's anything else I want to add to it. I do want to sign it though. Heather said YouTube land is great. That's awesome, Heather. So cool. Yeah, I'm hoping some YouTube people out there will discover YouTube streams and maybe get more people just kind of wandering in on YouTube. That would be awesome. Where do I want to sign this piece? I think I'm going to sign it right up in here. I almost forgot my name. And I just like to put the year on here. Cool, here we go. Awesome, fun Lady Liberty. I might come back, maybe, and add something tomorrow, but I don't know. I think the effect is just right here. So I keep sketching. Hey, thanks Heather, I appreciate that. Hey, an Indian welcoming people to America. Sure, absolutely. Why not? I like that. The more people that welcome other people to America, the better country this will be, right? Land of the free. Yeah, that's pretty cool. This is a really wonky abstract tower back here. I was going to do like a whole skyline, but I wanted to keep it simple. Just have these two pieces on here. I'm just looking around. Do I want to add something back in here? I don't think so. Is the white on her face the original paper? Yeah, so that's a good question. Yeah, the white is the original paper. Anything you see white on here is original paper. Good question, Patty. It's really cool how white, it just, I don't know, it just looks really interesting depending on what colors surround it. Let me zoom and refocus. It's a teepee, there you go, absolutely. I like that, it could definitely be a teepee back there. I like it. It's a new twist on the Statue of Liberty. It's the Native American tribute. I like that. Ah, so you painted around it. Yeah, I just left it. Exactly. I just left the white there and painted around it. You can see other places up here, there's white as well. Some spots in here as well, down at the bottom. Cool. Yeah, good questions. I appreciate that. Awesome. All right, guys, I'm out of here. I have to go to school tomorrow. Have a great, great night. Thanks for tuning in. I always appreciate you guys so much. Remember, pay it forward with your creativity. You guys are sharing amazing things and I'm sure you're bringing many, many smiles to many, many people's faces and that's what it's about, right? Making yourself smile and making someone else smile. That's why I do this thing, this stuff. You guys are awesome, thank you so much. Have a great, great night. Have an awesome Tuesday. Peace and live creatively, possibly in A teepee. See you guys, take care, have a great night.
