Hey Becky, good to see you. Every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings. Yeah, I am doing an angel sketch. I haven't sketched angel figures in a long time, so I figured I'd break one out. One of my dear friends and mother had passed away this week, or maybe it was end of last week, and, uh, thought it'd be an appropriate time to break out an angel sketch in memory of his mother. I love creating these figures. I have, uh, done quite a few of them. I just really never sketched them online. Actually, this may be the first one I've sketched live. I hope you're having an awesome, awesome Friday. It's the end of the week. Woohoo! Are you guys having a great, great day? I spent my day doing college homework. Pretty much all day today. So I had a class that started Monday and I didn't even realize the class had started already until I got an email this morning from the professor saying, "Hey, I noticed you didn't log in." We started one day, like, oops. It's all virtual, so I was able to go through, do my readings, do all my response— written responses. So a couple thousand words later, here I am. So I'm glad I was able to meet my deadline, that first stuff that was due today. Sometimes, sometimes time just slips away from That's right, I totally, totally forgot this class started on Monday.
Cool.
So I think I'm gonna let this ink dry for a little bit. We'll add some color to it. I actually found these in my drawer. I haven't used these in a for a while, I couldn't find them, and then I found them today. Neocolor water-soluble wax pastels, which I guess is another way of saying crayon, right? Water-soluble crayons. Um, you can see I've used them, some of them are broken, but I thought maybe I'll play around with some of these and add some color to, uh, the sketch we have going here. I'm also using a Bamboo Brush Pen. So here's the pen nib and here's the brush part. I've only used this a few times. I definitely need some practice with it. It's not holding as much ink as I thought at one time. I feel like I have to keep dipping a lot in the inkwell. Maybe there's a technique I'm doing something wrong. But that's okay, I'll keep playing around with it. I like it so far. I like creating thick lines and thin lines. It's pretty fun. So we'll put this over here. I was looking for my, uh, is it Looking for my brush. I have a brush pen, black brush pen here somewhere. Where the heck is it? Maybe it's in my bag over here. That's a negative. I'm not sure where I put it. You know, it's a gray— oh, here it is. It's a gray barrel. Ah, I found it. I was looking for this brush pen. So I'm gonna play around with this a little bit as well. So here's some scrap piece of paper. You can see I was playing around with a little angel figure here. So let's play around with the brush pen. And just, I wanna create, I just see kind of a background here. There's some kind of a temple on this hill. There's a little ant crawling, or a little bug crawling on my palette over here. I just brushed him away, so I'm not sure where he's headed now. Maybe there's some kind of a temple on top of this hill. All right, let's switch to hero track music. Donna DB, how are you? Good to see you. It's always great to see you pop in. Hope you're having an awesome day today. So this brush pen I like. I haven't used it too much, but I do like— I like being able to create really thin fine lines if I want, or thicker lines. Cool. All right, so I'm going to break out some color. So I, like I said, was saying before, I found these water-soluble wax pastels, AKA crayons. They were in my drawer. I haven't used them in a while, so I thought it'd be fun to break these out for a little bit. Let's add some color to this angelic big here. So I like to use some of this pink color. I'd like to use some of this blue, turquoise, turquoise blue we have. Um, what else? I'm not sure. Green maybe. We'll start with those. So I'm just gonna lay down the wax pastels and I'll come back with a brush with water on it and we'll see what happens. Some of this ink is still pretty wet, so I'm trying to stay away from it a little bit. Normally I'd let it dry. On here. All right, let's just break out a water brush and brush some of this color around, see what happens. So you can see it's water soluble, so You're gonna paint with it basically. Oops, I got some of the black in there. It's okay. Yeah, I probably should have let that ink dry a little bit more. I don't really want to bleed too much in these colors. It's okay. It's all about the act of creating, right? Creativity. This is the fun part. Just playing around with some lines, some colors. Hey, D-Ray, good to see you. Hope you're having a great, great night. You guys are awesome. I always appreciate everybody tuning in. Saying hello. Hope you're all having a great, great evening. I'm actually just dipping the, uh, The wax pastels right in the water, just kind of sketching with them. Yeah, I'll probably hit these, uh, winged areas. Probably later after the ink dries, come back and add color in there. I just, I don't want the black to mix in with the color too much up there. I also like just adding these dry on top to add some texture. Not sure what I want to do with the background yet where it's all white here. Maybe yellow. Maybe I'll do yellow. Maybe I'll do chartreuse in the background. Thinking maybe, uh— Hey, Becky said chartreuse. Long time no see. Welcome back. Yeah, I'm thinking Chartreuse for the background.
I'm thinking.
I'm not sure. I'm not 100%. My gut's not 100% set on it right now. We'll see. Let me zoom out. Rainbow Angel looks great. Hey, thanks, glad you like it. All right, wait for this ink to dry a little bit. All right, so let's think background. We got Chartreuse here. Chartreuse, Chartreuse, Cerulean Blue. I don't think I want to do the blue. I'm going to rule out the blue. A little bit of What else I have?
What other colors? Uh, you know what, this color. Look, maybe gold. Little orange.
I pulled out Bright Gold. I think I'm going to try the Bright Gold. This is acrylic ink. Let's try some, some gold background on this. Hope you guys are having a great Friday. Hope you're up to doing something fun, you're just chilling out, maybe you're catching up on some housework, maybe you're lounging out eating some popcorn, hanging out with your family, petting your pet. You have Neon in the background, that is so awesome, I love that. Always appreciate you guys tuning in. So we are going to go for a gold background on this. Just making some room, grab a drink of, uh, drinking Splash grape water. Tastes good. Becky's lounging with her pup. That's awesome. That sounds like so much fun. Nothing like chilling out with your pet, right? Ooh, this has some pink paint on it. Oh, that actually could have been a happy accident. There is some leftover fluorescent pink on this brush. I am liking the way it looks. We're gonna put the gold over here. So I don't know if you can see it, there's, there's a little bit of fluorescent pink acrylic paint on here. I'm liking the way it's looking. So let's try it. I don't think I want it too, too vibrant. I want something more soft. Was that actually rose color? I'm trying to think. Oh, you know what color that might have been? I was looking in my magic drawer with all these colors in it. I'm thinking it may have been rose-colored paint. Where did I put it?
Rose-colored paint, rose-colored paint.
I'm not sure, but I think I got this one. It's a very pale— it's called Light Portrait Pink. Acrylic paint. I think I'm gonna use that instead of a fluorescent paint in the background. I want to keep it a little more subtle, so let's go with that. Um, let's see, I'm gonna use a 3/4-inch brush, that one right here. So this is called Light Portrait Pink. Let's grab a piece of paper here. Brush it on too. That is apparently stuck to my board. There we go.
Alright, cool.
Alright, so let's try some of this. It's very, very pale, which might look nice on the background here. I want it to be very soothing and peaceful in the background. And I just got some pink in here. Here we go. I don't know how well this is going to show up on camera. It's very pale. After this ink dries, I'll come back and add more pink in certain areas. I just trying to stay away from the black ink right now a little bit. I don't want to get too mucky. I'll definitely come back and add some more. Hey, D-Ray, chill with your pets and the tiny kitten that found me. Oh, that's so cute. Oh, I'm so— that's so awesome that the kitten found you. I'm sure he or she is having a nice relaxing time. Very cool. Cool. I like that pink color. It's very pale. I think it's nice for the background on here. I think the fluorescent pink would have been too bright for this one. This isn't really meant to be fluorescent, fluorescently bright painting, sketch painting. And when this dries, the ink dries, I'll come back and add more pops of color on it. But I think you can get a good sense of where this is headed right now. I'll just zoom in so you can see some some of the detail. And I'll add— I'll come back and add more pen detail. You'll see some more character happening here. It's just kind of blocked out now. Kind of like what's happening here with the color. Actually, like what's happening here with the color.
As well.
Be fun. I like what's happening with the ground area too, the color in there. Who knows, maybe, maybe the gold will find its way on here somewhere. We'll put that aside for another time. Alright, I'm going to put this aside and just do a quick sketch to wrap up for the night. Once it's dry. I'm going to have my small sketchbook here. It's worth it to go experiment with leaves and watercolor. Ooh, that sounds fun, Becky. I like that. Yeah, I'm sure that'll look really awesome. Be sure to post some pictures of it. It'd be so cool to see what you come up with. I love that idea. I still want to sketch those doors in that cemetery that you shared your photographs with and your paintings of. I would love to give that a try. Alright, I'm just gonna go to a blank sheet and let's just wrap up with maybe a sketch or two. So this is just regular sketch paper, very thin, not really meant for watercolor or anything like that. It's not meant for a lot of saturation. So let's just play around. Yeah, I'm going to change the tunes a little bit and just switch vibes and let's go to something a little more French because why not, eh? Fun, this is fun sketch music. And since I have these color crayon— wax crayon thingies here, I'm gonna put some color on here.
Oops!
Alright, I know I was just saying it's not meant for getting saturated, but we're gonna put a little bit of water on here, see what happens. We need to go to the local patisserie. Am I saying that right?
Patisserie?
I took Spanish in middle school and high school. I did not take French. Oops, the paper is wet. It's kind of tearing through a little bit as I'm trying to sketch on it.
Bad luck, bad day, what should I do? Bad life, bad day, what should I do? What should I do?
[SPEAKING RUSSIAN] "Sketch reminds me of the Aristocrats movie." Really? That's cool. Wow. I love that. I'll take any kind of Disney reference I can get. That's awesome. What were the kids' names? Marie, Mallory, Toulouse? Ooh, I don't know. I'd have to ask my wife. She would probably know. Marie, Toulouse, and— was it a female name? Antoinette? I'm trying to think, like a French name. Antoinette, maybe? I'm totally making it up. I have no idea. Yeah, I like the colors on this. This has a fun vibe to it. "Love their French... love their friend Roquefort the mouse." Oh, I get it. Wait, that's a kind of cheese, isn't it? I... that just hit me. Roquefort is like a cheese.
That's awesome.
It only took, you know, 40, 50-something years to figure that out. I have no idea. Better late than never. Cool, that was— that's a fun little sketch here. I don't think there's much more I want to do to it. Maybe after it dries a little bit. It's still a little wet. I don't want to tear it.
I do want to come in and add some more swirlies.
Some more swirlies going in there and a little Van Gogh-ish homage kind of thing. In the sky happening. Actually, you know what I'd like to do? Yeah, I'll have to wait for it to dry before I can add that. Pretty cool. So this is a really small sketch. I mean, this is like, you know, 4— almost like a 4— I think it's a 4x6 sheet of paper. Again, very, very thin. You can see it kind of coming through the other side here. Very thin, just almost like computer paper. Maybe a little thinner than that, actually. Sticky cheese is kind of like a crust from super sharp cheddar and blue cheese. Delicioso. Delicioso. Muy delicioso. Alright, cool. I'm gonna do one more quick sketch to wind down the evening. Hey, thank you. I'm glad you liked that sketch. Yeah, it was a fun vibe. This was totally influenced by the music we were listening to.
So I'm glad I switched tunes.
And maybe let's do something on this side over here, on this sheet of paper.
Zoom in.
So Becky, when you do your leaves tomorrow with watercolor, Are you— are you going to— are you drawing these with ink and then we're coloring that in? You're doing a pencil? I'm just curious, what are you— what are you thinking? How are you going to create this? This is a scrap piece of paper I have hanging out for another day when I'm going to come back and maybe do a sketch on top of it. I figured we'd just take a look at it on camera. I just like to look at the colors. I like what's happening with the colors up here. It's kind of cool. I like what's happening in here as well. This will be interesting to see what kind of sketch we can do on top of it. We'll save that for another day.
Cool.
Alright, I'm going to put on my, uh, the sunset cowboy whistling song I like to wrap up with. It's called, I think it's called something sombrero. I got to figure out what it's called. Let's see. My Sombrero Something. Oh, here. My Sombrero. Pleasant title. My Sombrero for Your Gun. That's what this piece of music is called. My Sombrero for Your Gun. Maybe it's a peace offer. Maybe it's a peace offering. I'm not sure, but I like the way it sounds. I like the whistling. I like the kind of sunset vibe. And it's a fun piece to try to do a really quick outro sketch to. And I've been working on sketching these perspectives on this. I've been trying to sketch like a little Western kind of town in perspective. Let's see if we do that tonight or not. Give it a shot. Oh, you're using actual leaves to make, to make resistant watercolors. Dry in the sunshine until bone dry and peel the leaves off. Wow, that sounds awesome. I've never tried that. Very cool. I would love to see what you do. Maybe if you could post your results, that would be incredible. That sounds really, really fun. Awesome. I always love seeing new techniques and things. Very, very cool. Alright guys, so let's put on some outro sunset Western music. Um, just want to say thank you for tuning in. I know it popped on late tonight, but that's okay. I didn't have a scheduled time, but thank you for tuning in, watching, hanging out with your pets, eating snacks, cutting the grass, vacuuming. Maybe you're sketching, creating along with me. Maybe you're sewing, maybe you're doing laundry. It doesn't matter. Whatever you're doing, I hope you're having a great time. Cherish— I mean, each moment we have and just make the best out of it. Have fun, right? That's my words of wisdom for tonight. Easy for me to say after spending 10 hours of doing— 8 to 10 hours of doing college homework today. But it's all good. I did complain a few times about it. I'll be honest with you. It wasn't all fun, but I had to think about the end goal. What's the end result? Is I could— get my teaching certification. Yes. And a master's degree. So there's a goal with it. So sometimes you gotta remember our why, why we're doing things, what our end goal is, to keep us motivated. Guys, you're awesome. I appreciate you so much. For you, for everybody that was in the first workshop, the loose, loosey-goosey, the loose sketching style workshop, I know some of you guys are watching now. We are having our reunion meeting tomorrow night at, I think I said 8 o'clock PM. I'll double-check and maybe I said 7:30, I don't remember. I'll double-check and I'll post something tomorrow on our workshop group page. We're having a reunion and the idea is just to get together and you guys are gonna do some show and tell and see what you ended up creating for your last project, your last painting or sketch. So yeah, it'll be awesome. So I'm looking forward to seeing you guys tomorrow night. I know some of you can't be there. That's cool. We'll have it recorded and keep it on that group page. I really appreciate you all so much. So thank you. So look for an announcement for that tomorrow morning sometime. Alright guys, I'm gonna do one sketch as the music's playing and head out. Thank you so much. Pay it forward with creativity. And as I always like to wrap these things up and say, peace and live creatively. I am blessed to know you all. Thank you guys so much. Let's put on the Sombrero tune.
This is gonna be a really tiny perspective here.
Have a great night, guys. Take care. See you later.
