Hey everybody, hope you're doing fine today. I am, uh, streaming live in a different format, so hopefully you can see and hear me. If not, let me know. I guess if you can't hear me, you wouldn't be able to let me know anyway. Um, let's see, I'm just gonna move the camera. Hello everybody, hope you're doing well. Um, let me know if you can hear me because I'm streaming on my studio. I'm out on the road, but I'm using a totally different format and I hope it's working. So let me know. And, um, yeah, I'm actually trying to put on some music here. Let me see, ambient. What is ambient? We'll see. Um, hey, I see D-Ray is in the house. What's up, D-Ray? How are you? So I figured I'd pop on and do a little sketch here. I haven't sketched online, I don't think, maybe for a week. So I am actually sketching a building in Princeton. I'm looking at a reference photograph, but I am kind of standing in a weird awkward place. I'm behind my computer, kind of extending my hand out in front of the screen sketching, so it's a little weird, but that's okay. I'm here just to have fun. I see D-Ray, it looks like you can hear me. That's awesome. I'm glad you're doing well. Always makes me happy to hear. Yeah, so let's just put some pen to paper and have some fun. I'm over on the West Coast today, so I'm 3 hours off my normal schedule, and I was in a workshop all day today, and I need just to change my brain a little bit. I do have some work to do, um, so I figure sketching is a great way for me to shift gears. So this is one of the many, many, many amazing buildings at Princeton University. Hey, Eros is in the house! Eros, good to see you as well. So glad you guys are popping on, this is cool. Oh my God, the Facebook comments came! I— let me see if I gotta change the full screen so I can read the comments. Oh no, I can't see the comments when I go to full screen. What the heck?
All right, close this.
Maybe now I can see them. There we go. Says, oh my God, Facebookers can see me! Awesome. Yeah, I'm streaming in a little different format. Um, not in my studio, I'm out on the road, and I'm trying this, uh, to stream through Restream. So that's cool, I'm glad that's working. And if I sound tired, it's because I am. I am like, I'm so jet lagged. Like I said, I'm 3 hours out of sync. It's Really, it's affecting me more than I thought it would. I'll do another quick sketch. I'm just loosening up right now. Now, I wanna show you guys some of the sketches I did on from— it was in 3 different airports yesterday and I did a little bit of sketching while I was out. I thought it'd be fun just to go through my sketchbook and just show you how I caught or captured some of the scenes pretty quickly. These are windows up here. They're actually pretty cool. Again, this is really fast and loose and I'm sketching from in front of my laptop and stretching my arm behind it. It's a little awkward, but it's fun. Nothing's gonna keep me down. Hey yo, oh, what's the sketch today? I like the chat upgrade. Oh, that's cool. I hope everyone's safe from hurricane damage. Yes, good point. I hope everybody is safe. Um, crazy, crazy weather. I know what it's like to be through, um, a hurricane. I was down at the University of Miami in Oh gosh, 1980. Forgive me if I don't have the year correct. I'm not— um, 1992. I was down there for, um, Hurricane Andrew when it came through and it really obliterated a lot of South Dade County. So, um, yeah, hurricanes are not cool. And we got some kind of zigzaggy pattern thing happening here. Awesome. It's a really cool building on Princeton University. On campus, but I don't know what building it is. Yeah, something's popped up. It says show chat overlay. Show. I'm not sure what that means, but I don't think I need to turn it on. Let's see. Now it says, hey, D— says, hey, D-Ray, nice to finally meet you. How cool is that? Looking good. Thanks, guys. Yeah, it's a pretty fun sketch. I'm being really scribbly with this one. But let me show you guys some of the sketches I did from the airports if you wanna see. I'll just do a quick little flip through. There's not too many. It was cool to do a little show and tell. Let's see. So, when I was walking through the airport, A lot of these sketches were actually me looking outside the window or windows of the airport and looking kind of at the buildings and structures beyond. So you'll see a lot of steel framework and kind of concrete brick walls. And I was trying to kind of create these almost as abstract sketches. Pretty cool, I think. Let me see if I can show you this one. Sorry, I'm Hopefully you guys can see that okay. Another one, again, very loose, very abstract. This is looking at part of the, um, the Bridgeway, I think they call it, or the Skyway that connects when you leave your terminal, walk out to the airplane. You walk through that connecting piece. That's kind of right here, just a little section of it. And this is a metal panel part of a building here. The idea was just to capture kind of vignettes and just kind of abstract images. This one I really like. This is a— this takes up 2 pages in the sketchbook. This is, um, here's that Skybridge here, or Skyway. I'm not exactly sure what they call it.
I forget.
I think I wrote it down. Jetbridge, right here. Actually, I did write it. Jetbridge. Look at the title of this one. It's kind of funny. So I called it, um, Jetbridge Detective. As I was sketching this, there was a woman somewhere behind me, and I— all I know is she was talking on the phone to a detective because she kept saying, "Yes, detective. Okay, detective. Have a nice day, detective." So that's— sometimes I'll title my sketches based on words I hear, or if somebody says something to me while I'm sketching. That's where the, uh, detective comes in for that. Pretty cool. Hope the video quality is good. Hopefully it's not lagging too much. Um, here's a couple of more sketches. Again, hold it down maybe because the light's a little bit better. These— this sketch is actually inside one of the airport terminals, and this is actually Newark Airport. But just kind of a perspective looking down one of the corridors in the terminal. And here's another shot. I like that title. I do that to help cement the memory of it in my mind when I look back on the sketch. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. Let's see, I don't think we saw this one yet. I'm sorry, this one I like it. You can see a column here, kind of round column, some structure in the ceiling as well. You said I tried to move back, can't figure out how. That's okay. Uh, I'm not sure. Oh, me? Is that me? Uh, and here's another one here. And that's it. So those are just some of the sketches from the airport. Um, did them in this Moleskine journal. I love this journal, really small. I fit it— could fit in my pocket. I have a bunch of these from over the years, and it's also watercolor, so you can add washes and things to it if you want to. It's, it's a thicker paper. I I don't know the exact weight of it, I don't remember but it's a nice paper. Now, there are people in the hallway, there's— I don't know, they're talking about something. Okay, cool. Bum ba bum. Alright, so let me do a little more on this or maybe I'll do another quick sketch and I'll wrap up and I just wanted to pop on and say hello. And do a little sketching before I actually— I gotta get— do some work. But sketching is a great way for me just to kinda change my state of mind. I was in a workshop in a class all day today which was awesome but my brain's tired from the workshop. So, no complaints, just wanna change gears for a little bit. Everything's awesome.
Cool.
Hey, let me get— let me, uh, know, guys, if you're listening or watching, can you actually hear music? Because there's a feature on here, I put music on. I can't hear, but I don't know if you can. Alright, let's do another quick sketch. Actually, you know what? I might just do it on the same page. I might just do a really small thing over here in this area. No music on my end. Okay, cool. Thanks for telling me. Let's see, like I said, I'm trying to learn this. Can you hear the people in the hallway talking? Apparently, um, where my room is located, I'm across from the laundry room. The laundry, it's real small. It's not even a room, it's like a small space. And apparently people like are hanging out over there, so I don't know if you can hear them, but I'd rather hear the music. Let's see, uh, let's put some— it's called Lounge. I don't know, let's see what it sounds like. My name is— I have a selection of chill, downtempo, lounge, hip-hop, lo-fi, chill pop, and ambient. I clicked on lounge, so apparently this is the lounge music. Um, all right, let's It's all good, just having fun. Oh, okay, you hear music? I turned it up. We're gonna do another sketch here, guys. Let me just flip over. We'll just use— let's use, uh, the back of this page here. What am I gonna sketch here? Hmm. I don't know about this music.
Kind of weird.
Oh man, I don't, I don't like this music. Let's put lo-fi on. Lo-fi music. I usually like lo-fi. I can't even hear it, but that—
what the heck?
Yes, lo-fi is better. Yeah, let me know if it's too loud or not. I'm just looking for maybe a little sketch. Here's another vignette— I'm sorry, a picture. This is from Princeton as well. I'm going to be doing— starting September, I'm going to be sketching once or twice a month. We'll be doing some Princeton sketching and I'll break it out so you guys can follow along. But today, we're just doing just fun sketches here.
Let's do it.
And sketching tonight with my Sharpie gel pen right here. See if I don't— if you can read it. Probably can't read it, but really, I love this pen. The ink glides on so smooth. All right, let's sketch this. I'm barely pushing the pen down. The ink is like really just goes on so nice. I like it. And we have some windows happening up in here. This corner of the building kind of comes down, and this is really cool, kind of archway here. Um, actually, this is an archway. I sketched this door the other night when I was live. Yeah, just being loose and scribbly here. Roof coming back. We have a little dormer up here on the roof area. Boom. Let's do a sketch, a little dormer up there. And this kind of comes out at an angle, sort of a perspective happening. It kind of goes back at an angle this way. We've got, uh, some windows here as well. And we got a couple of small windows up here. I'm gonna make these windows pop a little bit. I'm just gonna color them in, hatch them in with the pen. That'd be better if you can see it, wouldn't it? Sorry, it was mostly off the screen. Hey, Tim's in the house. Tim, good to see you. Awesome. Tim, it's been a while. Hope all's well. And Linda's in the house. Linda, good to see you as well. Hope you guys are all doing fantastic. It's good, you're clear on the mic. Thank you, Arisa. I definitely appreciate the tech feedback. Like, again, I'm streaming on the road, laptop, different browser, but I wanted to go online and sketch. This is killing me as hell. I'm sitting here Try to angle this a little differently. This is a little bit better for me. Hopefully you guys can still see it. Yeah, Tim's in the house. This is fun. You guys are popping in. So, um, um, actually, I don't in a workshop today, tomorrow, and Friday, which is really cool, over all the way out west, which is fun also, different location. And I'm learning some tips and tricks, some architectural software, so it's really, really cool. So my time brain is real all messed up. This 3-hour difference is crazy. I woke up at 3:30 this morning because I usually wake up around 5. No, I woke up at 2:30, so usually wake up around 5:30. Oh my God, let me get restarted here. I like the way it's looking because it's very, very loose. Got a roof going on up here as well. You have stonework, so I'm going to just sketch in some stones on here. [FOREIGN] So I'm actually sketching kind of sideways from how I normally sketch. So if my lines look even looser and wonkier and scribblier, that's one of the reasons why. Try to get to normal sketching. Let me see if this is better here. It's a little better.
Cool.
So we got some stonework happening on this building. I'm gonna just add some hatch lines for me before— indicate the roof overhang here. Got a roof overhang happening here. Boom. There's some depth in this kind of archway area, so let's hatch that in. You can see as I'm adding this black on here, this ink, it's just starting to pull out some shapes. I'm gonna even shade in or color in some of these stones black as well.
Cool.
There are growies on this building. One of the buildings. It's so beautiful. I'm just trying to capture some of the idea of— never drew ivy on a building, so this is kind of a first. I don't know how to really show, probably I don't even know, I'm not sure. Maybe he's really scribbling lines, maybe, maybe like curly Q's or something. But I hope, I hope you're getting kind of, um, kind of Gothic vibes with this building, this neo-Gothic architecture. And we've got some windows, so I'm going to color in some of the panes there. Here we go. That's a kind of a cool sketch. Let me check, uh, go through some of the comments here. Hi to the tiny font people. What? I'm trying to follow the chat here. I can't see all the comments, so I have to scroll through. Some of you I can see, and others the font is so tiny I can't read. Oh, that's weird, huh? I'm not sure what that's about. I am streaming through, um, Restream, so it's a little different format. That could be part of the, the dealio. Yes, I'm still invisible to the Facebookers. So Arisa is still invisible to Facebookers. Hey, Linda H is in the house! Linda H, good to see you. Some of you I can see, and others the fonts are really weird. I'm not sure what that's about. Um, sorry about that. You guys are awesome. Let me know if you're enjoying this format. I'll hold this up so you can get a better view of it. I like—
actually really like it.
We got that one. And then if you just— if you're just joining, I know the Linda's— Linda's just popped in. There's another one we did, a quick one. And then I'll do one more, one more, because I really do have to do some work, some design work to do. I thought they could see it on the stream. Does the side chat not appear for them? Ah, I don't know. So Facebookers, can you see the chat on the side of the screen, yes or no? Let me know. I would— I would hope everybody could see it. Oh, good. Here, I really like the new building. The heavy pen vibes give it much life. Oh, cool, thank you. Yeah, so you guys may have noticed I've been actually really loosening up my sketches intentionally. I'm loosening them up a lot. I'm just trying to play with a little bit of a different style and be kind of— amp up the looseness and sketchiness of these. So that's something— I talk about setting creative intentions, and that is definitely one of the intentions that I've been focusing on for the past week or two. Is I really want to see just how loose I can get these things and still have them read as architecture. So I'm just playing around with that. All right, cool. Now let me see if I can find another one. I'm kind of boggled by the, um, chat thing. I don't know why not everybody can see it. I'm just going through some more Princeton pictures. Actually, I'm going to sketch something based on this picture. This is a window opening looking out into a courtyard at another window. So we're just going to take this and we're going to use that as an inspo. Remember, when I'm sketching, I'm never trying to duplicate the photograph. I'm just being inspired or Inspired by the picture. The photograph is my exactness. Yeah, I didn't have to finish that. If I have the photograph for precision, yeah, that's right. And sketching is for evoking memory, um, emotion, just having fun being in the moment. Right, let's sketch this. I'm actually going to sketch that on the back of this page. We're going to turn it this way and I'm going to see if I can get in a little better position here.
Wow.
All right, I'm going to try sketching from behind the computer this way and I'll, I'll catch up on the chat in a few minutes, a couple minutes. All right, so this one I'm actually going to start with. Sometimes I'll draw these frames. Let me know if you can see this. I hope you can. I know it's kind of a low angle, and we're going to use that just as a rough guide to see where our sketch fits in. I always push lines outside of that frame. It's just a guide. So we have this cool archway. This is the stonework at this university. Isn't it just astonishing to think about the craftsmanship that's gone into these buildings? It's just astounding to me. All right, so we have that kind of piece, and then we have— kind of comes back like this. This goes up, angle, cross. Here we have another angle, and it goes across like that. Here's our archway. We have some of the stones kind of doing their stone thing here at an angle. And then this is coming out here, goes up a little bit, up. This one actually comes out like this. This one's kind of comes down a little there. So that's how beyond arch. Let's sketch the window in here very loosely. Get this, this really fun window here curving And then we have stone, a stone, then arch. I'll hold it up closer. Yeah, thanks guys for bearing with me. Like I said, I'm, I'm not in my studio, I'm on the road, sketching on a desktop using my laptop to stream, or laptop. This is kind of laughable. So I hope you're having fun. But no, that's kind of what it's looking like. Uh, and then we're just gonna stick with the Sharpie pen, and I'm going to try to get it a little bit higher. Let me see if I can do this. I got my, uh, of course I have my Lockbee with me. Lockbee, if you're out there, I do have my Lockbee field journal. I just want to see if I can get this closer to the camera. That might be a a little better. All right, so how do I want to do this? This is interesting. I want to put a hatching in here, and I just want to give a little depth to this arch, kind of, uh, hatch lines. Here in that edge. I want to darken the edge a little bit. I want this kind of frame the background. I'm going to shade in or color in some window panes of glass back in here. Just trying to create a little bit of depth back there. And I want to— let's see, this is a tricky one. The wind arch looking out at the window. Some vertical lines on here, I think. Soften all this white space on the left and make this kind of read a little bit better. Vertical lines here. Again, I'm just trying to soften this edge so there's a little bit more— with just these little white lines here, I'm going to pull out— these are the joint areas where the pieces of stone touch each other and just darken them up a little bit. And hopefully that worked. I think it did. Oh boy. Hey, Becky's in the house! What's up, Becky? Good to see you. This is so fun. Says, I can see it all sideways on my phone now. Yes, Linda, that's great. Inspired having fun with Jason. Thanks, YouTube. I am the tiny font people. I love that. We're gonna add that to the chat. I am the— all right, that was cool. I hope you guys are enjoying this. Tell all the ladies I said hi. Hey! Hey Tim, do you have an art supply shop for online workshops? Workshop. Tim would, Tim would take down our shopping list. Anything would be bought. At least he would. Our course, what's going on?
Which way?
And then, uh, you guys, that might be it. Let me see if there's anything else. I was showing talent here. Um, I think I showed this to you guys. This came out— this is in the sketchbook. Here, pretty cool.
Let me zoom in.
No, let me zoom in. Let me move a little closer. I like the scribbly lines here as well. And I just want to capture the essence of the building, well, of the bridge in this case. But I think my favorite book is probably the, um, Domino Sugar Refinery building. Awesome, awesome. Hey guys, I think that's going to be a wrap for today. You're buffering really bad. Yeah, I might not have the best Wi-Fi here. Sorry, guys. All right, um, I'm still here. I just need a drink, my throat's really dry. It was it— what did you say? Are you hugging your laptop a bit too hard? Yes, yes, that's— that is exactly why it's buffering. How do you guys know? I love the bridge, it's beautiful. Oh, thank you, we appreciate your effort. That is— I'm glad you like the bridge. That was a fun one, isn't it, to do? Hey guys, thank you so much for tuning into this, um, different format stream. Before we go, just let me know in the comments, did you like this format? I know it has some quirkiness to it, some bugs. Just let me know, say yes, no, maybe, um, because I could always try using this when I get back home, the same format. I'm just curious. Hey, let's add this too. And like, there's a shameless plug, um, I do have a buymeacoffee.com link if you ever want to, uh, support or contribute to my live streams. That's cool, it's always good. You can always buy some new pens and paper. If not, no worries, it's my pleasure to bring this to you guys just for fun because I Love it so much, and you guys are awesome. Uh, Linda likes this format. Cool. Eris says, I like this format a lot. I'm already accustomed to it from other streams I follow. It works well. Cool. Okay, bye everyone. Yes, bye. She's not liquid. Thank you so much, you guys are awesome. Take care, um, keep paying it forward, you know, use your creativity for positivity. And I really appreciate every one of you guys. Thank you so much. Um, yeah, I hope to see you real soon. Peace and live creatively. Have a great, great rest of your day. Take care. Uri says, post format unsure. That's okay. Uh, Tim says, your personality shines on any format. Connection wasn't great though. Yeah, thanks, Tim. I appreciate it. Has to do with the, um, internet here, the Wi-Fi. But I appreciate that.
Bye.
Can you guys see my hand? Let's do a little thumbs up. D-Ray, I legit do not know where the exit button is on this format. This is legit. I gotta find it. I am exiting, but I have to find the end stream. Here it is. End stream. I found it. Bye, guys.
