The Inkspired Life - Sketching & Painting : Inking Out Loud

In this informal YouTube livestream, the host (Speaker A) conducts a quick mixed‑media sketch using ink wash and graphite on 140‑lb Canson watercolor paper. He demonstrates a water brush loaded with fluorescent orange, pink, and cobalt blue acrylic inks, explains his choice of materials, and outlines his artistic intent to capture a Spanish‑Mission‑style architectural scene with bells and spires. Throughout the session he interacts with viewers (Patty, James, D‑Ray, Janice, Jens, etc.), answering questions about the paper, colors, and camera settings, and adjusting on‑screen saturation and contrast to better match the real‑life appearance. He mentions his ongoing Sunday‑morning sketch series focused on religious structures, shares personal anecdotes about procrastinating homework, upcoming travel plans, and household chores, and signals that this is only the first layer of a multi‑layer piece that will later receive additional ink work and possible repainting. The stream ends with gratitude to the audience and encouragement to stay creative.

Hey Patty, good morning to you. Happy Sunday. Hope you're having a great day so far. It was awesome Sunday.
Good to see you.
Just popping on here quick for a, just a quick little ink wash graphite mixed media sketch. Hey, I like your colors this morning. I was wondering how you applied the orange. Now I see it's water brush. Yeah, so I'm just using a water brush right now. Right here, I got a water brush using some acrylic ink. Here, fluorescent orange and pink. This will be— this is the first layer. I'll come back and add more things at some point after things dry a little bit. I already know I want to add some bells in these niches here, these openings. I'll have some bells going on, trying to capture a Spanish Mission kind of feeling with this. So I just want to be really playful. Just using watercolor paper, 140-pound here. Has a nice texture to it. This is, I think this is Canson. Yeah, Canson watercolor. Looks like it says Montval watercolor artist series. I just happen to have these, found two of these pads here on my shelf. They weren't totally used, so I wanted to break them out.
Try and— and let's see, I do want to add—
close these up. Let's add one more color on here for now and then I'll come back at some point later and add more to it. Great. "Went to Grey Hill Farm." Oh, awesome. Wow, that's so cool that you went back there. So awesome. What a great, great place that is to go do some plein air. I'm so jealous. Awesome stuff. Be sure to post your paintings. I'd love to see what you're working on. Very cool. Hoping to get up to Maine this summer, but I don't, I don't think it's gonna happen. I have a big trip planned at Christmas this year to Disney, so I'm kinda saving some money for that trip. So I don't know if I'll make it to Maine this summer. Unfortunately, but my heart is always there. Oh, that's cool. Yeah, Ring de Baine or Montvale. That's probably the same, almost the same as this book. That's so cool. Let me know how you like the paper. So far I'm liking this paper. And if you notice the background, I'm purposely leaving a lot of texture on here. I don't want it to look very flat. Just kind of letting the brush dance around, which is cool. Sometimes I do like a flat wash in the background, try to make it even, but in this case I just want it to be really— kind of feel frantic or energetic a little bit. I was gonna say cartoonish, almost cartoonish in a way.
That's a good thing. Cool.
All right, I'll let that dry. Let that dry a little bit. Hey, James, good to see you. Hope everything's great. Hope you're having an awesome morning. This color blue is called—
I have to look it up.
This is Cobalt Blue. Cobalt Blue. So, um, actually it's a watercolor ink. Cobalt Blue.
I like it.
It looks, um, a little more intense in person than you're seeing on screen. What I like about this paper, I do like the texture showing through on it. See, kind of in this area, see the texture, which is kind of cool. Hey, D-Ray, good to see you. Modem problems, was not on since yesterday. Oh no, D-Ray. Well, I'm glad you're back on. Looks like your modem is up and running. So cool. We had some internet issues here the other night, so I totally get it.
So I'm gonna—
I'm gonna be on till 11:30, guys, so like 4 more minutes or so. This is just layer 1 of this painting. I'll come back and keep adding more detail to it. Just kind of wanted to block out some ideas with it. That needs to dry a little bit before I add more, I think. Looks very light. Yeah, Janice, it looks very light on screen. Yeah, I'm sure it does. Let me, uh, let's close this light and see if that helps. I turned the light off. I don't know if that's any better or not. There's probably a way I can adjust the contrast and all that fun stuff. I don't know how to do it. I'm using a new camera here, so I have to figure out how to tweak it and do all that stuff. Actually, maybe it was over here.
Let me see.
Just playing around with some settings. Let's see what happens on screen. It's actually not too bad in that setting. Bump up the saturation. Um, trying to get it more what it looks like in person. Actually, that's, that's a little bit closer to what it looks like in person. I just changed, tweaked some settings. Hey James, thanks for that feedback. Paper makes a huge difference, I like the color. Yeah, this is a really nice blue, especially in person. You can kind of see it here better in the little paint palette thingy. It's just a lid from a jar I'm using. Better, yeah, thank you. Glad it looks better, guys. Thanks for that feedback. You guys are awesome. That's cool. Let's see, what else do I want to add on this? For now, it's kind of drying a little bit. I feel like I want to take a nap. I haven't been up that long. I've been up, I guess, 5 hours. But I want to take a nap. I'm tired.
All right.
Let me just throw down a little bit more color, then I'm going to wrap this up for this morning. So I've been popping on Sundays, Sunday mornings.
Here and there. Why?
Because I'm procrastinating from doing my homework. That's why I'm painting. And yes, I love sketching, drawing, creativity. That's my drive.
I do have homework I need to be doing.
Throw down some more pink and then I'm gonna wrap it up here. Not pink, orange. I think I know my colors by heart. All right. Fun music. Yeah, it is good. It is awesome. I love this music. It's good to relax or feel like you can. Homework, hence the nap. Yes, T-Ray, exactly. Am I doing a series? Good question, Jens. So yeah, so on Sunday mornings I've been doing a little series, kind of steeples or religious structure type of series I've been kind of doing on Sunday mornings. So you may have noticed, you may have seen this one here. Good question. If I could find it, I have to Really organized my artwork. So, you may have seen this one I did. So, that's kind of what I've been doing on Sunday mornings is working on this type of series. You know, just kind of either religious or spires. I love spires. So, that's where I'm headed on Sundays when I do sketching. Good question, I appreciate that one. Alright guys, I'm gonna wrap up. Just wanted to pop on quickly here. Of course I'm still painting as I'm saying. Just wanna add some blue. I'm gonna do that just to pull these shapes out a little bit. This will probably end up having maybe 3 more layers of stuff on here. More colors. Some pen work. This is just the base we're looking at today. It's the foundation, right? We got to start somewhere. So had this kind of image in my brain, I just wanted to get it out on paper, kind of a quick little study sketch here. And who knows, maybe one day I'll even repaint it to a different seen, or more realistic. We'll see. Right now, just getting ideas out of my head onto paper. You guys are awesome, by the way. Thank you for watching on a Sunday morning. I'm just using what's kind of left in my little paint palette here. Brushing on some colors. It's okay if it mixes together, I don't mind. Definitely gonna sketch some bells in here. One bell, another bell here. Pull out this, which is a cross up top. I'll pull that out in the future. You'll see when I add some ink to the roof, it'll pull the shape of the barrel down. Tiles out more. Sketching some architectural features like the start— you can start to see the stonework around the openings that'll pop out. I'll have a lintel or a sill piece. Sill is the bottom of the opening or windows, so I'll have a sill on there. But now that I have it blocked out, I know what I need to go at and where I'm going to go. Cuz it was all up here this when I woke up. Uh, Cole Spires, thank you! You look— I like the one that looks like fireworks getting ready to explode. Uh, I'm not sure which one that is, the fireworks one getting ready to explode. Oh, I think I know, I think it's in my drawer. Dark outline around the edge makes the building stand out. Yeah, so that's exactly right. Yep, so I just wanted to pull that shape out a little bit more. Uh, you were paying a couple of bills and I saw you were live. I gotta do that too. I've got it. I already got a notice from American Express today. What a nice way to start Sunday off. So I gotta pay bills too. Hey, you guys are awesome. Thank you so much for tuning in on Sunday morning. Um, D-Ray, you gotta finish mowing. Yeah, I got that all done yesterday before it got way too hot and humid here, so I am done with that. Outside chores until tonight. I'll, uh, do some watering. Hey, you guys are awesome. Thank you so much for tuning in. Um, yeah, I appreciate you all so much. Enjoy your Sunday. Pay it forward with positivity. Just keep being amazing. Thank you again. I'll see you guys really soon. Have an awesome day. Peace. Live creatively. Let's try it again. Take 2. Peace and live creatively. See you guys. Yeah, keep cool, keep cool. I know in New Jersey, here I am, it's gonna be very hot in here today. So wherever you are, either keep cool or keep warm depending on the temperature, temperatures. See you guys real soon.
