Thursday Night Sketching

In this live YouTube stream, artist Jason Nicholas (The Inkspired Life) guides viewers through a spontaneous sketching session focused on whimsical, fall‑inspired barns. He begins by announcing an upcoming Zoom workshop (Oct 26) and encourages viewers to join via links in the video description. Jason demonstrates a quick, loose approach to drawing a gambrel‑roof barn, emphasizing perspective without strict precision, and adds architectural details like towers and stone foundations. Throughout the session he experiments with a vibrant mixed‑media palette—Sharpie outlines, watercolor washes, ink, and Prismacolor pencils—using unconventional colors such as turquoise, inferno orange, and rust tones to create a playful, ‘wonky’ aesthetic. He frequently interacts with the chat, greeting viewers by name, acknowledging comments, and sharing personal anecdotes about walking in fall, past projects (a 2013 illustrated book, a dream barn‑studio conversion), and his “Hike and Mike” seasonal videos. Jason discusses his creative philosophy—there is no right or wrong, embrace mistakes, and ignore haters—while also offering teaching insights and encouraging creative confidence. Technical notes about streaming platforms (Instagram vs. YouTube), music copyright, and livestream tools are mentioned. The stream concludes with a recap of his layered workflow (Sharpie → watercolor → ink → hatch lines), gratitude to the audience, and reminders to follow his social channels (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook).

Hey, happy Thursday, October 16th, 2025. Hope you're having a great night. Sorry, I'm just hitting— trying to start the Instagram stream. I'm back. All right, hope you guys having a great, great night. I am Jason Nicholas Nicholas with The Inkspired Life, where I love sketching architecture, design, Creativity, all that stuff just jazzes me up and yeah, fires me up. I just love— I love the fact that we can take a blank sheet of paper and put something on it, um, and just make cool stuff. Yeah, that's what fires me up. So we're having a great day today. Uh, I've been working on barns, so I could say I've barned there, done that, because I have All week it's been barns. I'm prepping for an online workshop. Check out the upper left of the screen, you could see a link there. Also in the notes, comment, all that stuff, description, you can see a link there. Love for you to join me October 26th for, um, some online Zoom sketching where we'll be creating, uh, barns, wonky whimsical barns that are inspired by fall colors. Cut it out. All right, this is the last one I worked on here. Uh, I think this one's almost done. It's almost done. I, I think it's actually done. Let's— I think we're gonna do something fresh and new. Um, let's get a blank sheet of paper. We'll just turn the page and let's just, uh start sketching and see what happens. The time is at 8:20. All right, I'll probably be on till, let's say, 10 or 15 minutes. So we'll do some quick sketching here tonight. Let me know where you're watching from. It's always awesome to talk to you guys. All right, so, um, yeah, let's just do— let's just sketch something. Just kind of go back to kind of a standard barn-shaped roof. It's called a gambrel roof. I'm gonna throw some lines down here. We'll give it a nice perspective. Um, I think sometimes we sketch when you hear the word perspective and you're sketching like a building, we think it has to be precise, beautiful, measured, scaled properly. Um, yeah, you can do that if you want, but, uh, and there are people amazingly talented and gifted at that. I just— I'm a fast sketcher. I just want the effect and the idea that this is kind of— has a little bit of depth to it. So I'm just gonna throw— I don't think I'm gonna throw, uh, doesn't say throw too many lines down. You know what I want to do? Let's add something over here. Maybe we'll do like a little tower, or no, we'll do, um, yeah, we'll do like a little tower or something here. Cool. So the leaves here, I think, I think they're almost at peak. I'm guessing, um, they are looking really, really cool. So I love walking after dinner and going to a local park area here and just walking around and honestly just kind of just looking at the leaves and kind of soaking in the fall vibes. I love it. Every season inspires me in different ways. If you want to know more about that, check out my TikTok channel, and I think Instagram as well. I did a recent video where I was hiking and talking and just kind of talking about seasons and how they change and how fall for me is about vibrancy. So I call it Hike and Mike sessions, where I just— I'm kind of just walking and thinking and talking about whatever, whatever comes to mind. It's pretty fun to do. I'm gonna do a little fence over here. Uh, I'm gonna— let me see if I can grab this thing here. Right here. Is this a sketchbook? I have a sketchbook, right? I don't know if this is the one. Maybe not. Dang it. Excuse me. I did, I did some barn sketches, man. Where the heck are they? Maybe this one. All right, not that one either. I thought it was this one. I did some barn sketches that came out really, really cool. This was couple years ago, and, uh, I know I, I gave one away, I think, to, uh, to Kalia. It was a really awesome one. Yeah, it's not in here. I took it out. Dang it. It's all right. I just want to show it to you because it has— it was kind of cool. It had the scarecrow and stuff in the scene. Um, it was fun. All right, so we got a barn. Kind of a basic looking barn there. Maybe we'll do a— let's do a stone foundation on this barn. So we got kind of a stone foundation happening. And there we go. I've always had a dream to like get an old barn and convert it into, um, into a studio space, you know, for, for artwork, for creating, building things. I'd have like some 3D printer in there, laser cutter. Um, yeah, it'd be really just kind of a cool space just to create and make stuff, be creative. Maybe one of these days. Maybe one of these days. All right, let's put a— maybe have a little structure back here coming off the barn a little bit. All right, cool. I think we're going to throw some color on it now. All right, let's do it. And if you hear noises in the background, it's— sounds like they're talking and playing with our pup. I used to play music when I was live streaming, um, but those music services— I have to— I had to pay to stream music. Because of copyright stuff, so I kind of stopped doing it. All right, so I'm starting kind of with this, with the sky here. We'll throw in some orange. We have a kind of orangey fall sky happening. Like this. Boom, cool. Punch in some yellow. Sorry you guys can't see my, my palette over here. Oh, it was— so I'm just gonna— I'm just literally tapping in, uh, some some yellow. Boom! Awesome. And I, I know what color is calling my name. Hey Janice, great to see you on Facebook. Hope all's well. Long time no see. It's always great seeing you. Hope all is well. One of these days we'll have to meet up in NYC. It'd be really cool. I was just in NYC last Saturday. I was in Long Island City, then over in Midtown. The Midtown Hilton for a pen show. Cool. Yeah, so look at this. I love the way the yellow just kind of threw it on there. Boom. And it's going to spread out. But here is the fun color. All right, hold on tight. I love, love, love this color. Boom. Reflex Rose. This is awesome. Hey, Paul Loves Art, great to see you. Hope all's well. It's always great seeing you. Thank you for popping up on the Insta— no, on the Facebook. So cool. All right, I'm going to be brave. I'm just going to— I'm going to drop some pink on here, just a drop of pink. Um, And when this dries, guys, I'll put pictures when it dries. It just, it really transforms. It's a really fun color palette. So if you've been watching, you know, me for a while, you may have noticed I did something a little different tonight than I usually do. And I have no, no idea why I did it this way. I guess it doesn't matter. If you think you know what I did differently, just put it in the chat. Janice is doing well. Oh, Janice, I am so glad. So glad to hear that. I appreciate— I know you share stuff with me on, uh, Facebook or— and/or Instagram, and I appreciate you sharing that stuff. So thank— thank you for doing that. Paintbrush. Paintbrush is paintbrush. No, great, good observation. So I did, I just start with the Sharpie, now I picked up the brush. Here's what I did different, um, I put the color in the sky first. I usually will add color to the building, um, and then sometimes I'll add color in the sky, or sometimes I'll leave it white. I don't know, I don't know why, but, um, I just added color in the sky. That just goes to show there is no right, there is no wrong. I wanted to make a rhyme there. There is no right, there is no wrong, just keep creating your happy song. I don't know. Yeah, there you go. I like it. So yeah, this will dry nicely. I'm going to throw on a little bit more. Boom. Just want to punch that area out. So maybe, maybe it's a false sky. Maybe the sun is over here in this area, which means the light is coming this way. So the dark shadow areas would be on this, um, kind of this face and this face. And that is probably as technical as I get with shadows when I sketch. It's just imagine where the sun is and where it isn't. I don't like to get hung up on the details of that stuff, not on these really loose, wonky, fun kind of quick drawings. What do I want to— what color do I want to do the barn? I have no idea, guys. I'm drawing a blank, so I'm going to skip the barn for now and let's do the ground. So instead of me sitting here trying to think of the color of the barn and holding my brain up, I'd rather just keep creating and it'll hit me. Something will pop into my brain. I'm looking forward to going to NYC when the tree is up this year. Even, even despite the crowds, it'll still be fun to see. It's just a fun vibe in NYC in Christmas, uh, during Christmas time. Is— if you haven't done it, it's, it's just so unique. It's a feeling and a vibe that you just can't Not that I've been a lot of places, but yeah, I don't think you can get the same vibe anywhere else. So I'm kind of excited for, uh, for that to happen. There you go. So I'm just doing the kind of the ground. We got the fall sky going. This is, this is drying really cool, the yellow and the orange. Um, sky. I'm loving it, I'm loving it. I think there's a very famous popular fast food chain that, that might use that as their slogan, or at least they used to. I don't want to say it on air unless they want to sponsor me. All right, cool. So we got some ground grass happening down there. I think I'm gonna go to crazy town right now, and I'm gonna go to crazy town, guys. I'm making— all right, well, you'll see. Welcome to crazy town, where any color goes. I really want a color that's so different than anything we have on here right now. So I am, I'm dipping into my fave watercolor color right here, right here. A little bit of turquoise. Life is good when you got turquoise color. All right, yep, we're doing it. It's running on the barn. What, what's he doing? There's no blue— there are no turquoise barns out there in the world. I can hear people saying that. There are no turquoise barns. What is that guy doing? He's crazy. Oh man. Why would anybody watch that guy? He's making a turquoise barn. Right? People will say that. But this is where we add the colors we want to add. Make it yours. This, this is right. This is, this is our world. Our— we're creating stuff. Um, when I say our, I'm talking about like me and you. Like, we're, we're doing this together right now. Um, we can make, make this any color we want, and I want a turquoise barn. So there you go. Um, I think it really is going to be cool how it pops from that background. All right, and maybe we'll throw in a little bit of— you know what, maybe it's a rusty metal barn. All right, here we go, we're going to turn this into a— we're going to give it an industrial rusty vibe, so I'm going to throw some yellow in. All right, so maybe it's a metal barn that's kind of weathering and rusting. And now we're going to throw in some Apple Snail and we're going to kind of weather it up. Hey, if you're just joining me over on Instagram or Facebook or YouTube, it is awesome to see you. Feel free to say hi in the comments. Ask some questions, pick my brain a little bit. That is why I'm here. I'm here just to share what I'm doing, um, put some good vibes out there, maybe give a little encouragement along the way. Maybe you can laugh at some of my dad jokes. All right, this is looking really funky, but this is where you have to go with your gut. It— when this dries, guys, it's going to look really cool, so trust me on it. Yeah, I like it so far. Oops. I do want to leave some white space on here, so I'm not gonna— I'm not gonna add color to the entire, um, structure. We're gonna let a lot of it just kind of breathe a little bit. I don't want to constrict it, um, with too much color. I like to leave it loose, a lot of white space, um, unfinished kind of looking. And it doesn't help for you to see my image when I'm covering with my hands. Hey, Jesco Studio, great to see you! You haven't steered us wrong yet. Hey, thank you so much, I appreciate that. That's awesome to hear. I love when you guys put some positive vibe comments in there. They might notice, but when more people start watching, I might start to get a little more hyper. It's like when I'm teaching, if any of my students, if any of you guys are watching, you, you know this, um I amp it up sometimes, like over-the-top hype, hyper energy. Um, just one, to get me through the day. Two, more importantly, to hopefully energize the room and get the vibes up another level. Um, that's kind of the main reason. And when I get excited about something, I just— it shows. So thanks for sticking with me, guys. All right, cool. I'm gonna let this dry here. Let's add some We'll add some, uh, I don't know, I'll break out either color pencils— no, creative markers— no, Sharpie. You know what I'm gonna do? This is the point in the game, in the creative game here, right? Usually on the barns, we'll break out a red pen and sketch some of the vertical barn boards. Um, Let's do it over here in this area. This is still too wet. I really threw a lot of water down here tonight. So it just starts to add a little bit of detail on here just by throwing some of these red lines on for barn boards. I'm gonna— I know it's wet over here, but I'm gonna do it anyway. We'll see what happens. I kind of like it. There we go. So we got some barn boards happening there. Hey Tyler and Yandi, oh my gosh, great to see you guys on Instagram! Hope you guys are doing well. Long time I haven't seen either of you guys in a long time. Wow, that's so cool! What a nice surprise seeing you guys pop on. Feel free to say hi in the comments or ask any questions. Gosh, Tyler, I don't think I've seen you in, um, when did you graduate? 3 years ago? 4? I've lost track after all these years. Um, I really don't remember, Tyler. It's gotta be 3 or 4. And Yandi, you were what, 2 years ago? It's only— it's only teaching year number 7 for me, and I don't remember when people— people graduate. Tyrus is doing great. How about you? Hey Tyler, I'm awesome. Thank you for asking. I, I remember our conversations about, um, the floor— flooring. You would used to do flooring work with, I think, your grandfather, if I remember. Sometimes I just remember weird things. Cool. And I think I ran into you one near Acme or Frank's one time past couple years. Oh, you know when I saw you last? It was a graduation day. You were going— I think it was graduation day. You were going to someone's graduation, and I think I saw you like in the parking lot at Acme. All right, cool. All right, so we got this, it's starting to dry. This, I love what's happening here. I'm going to zoom in. I don't know if you guys can see this. Tyler says yes, good. All right, so I, my memory's still here a little bit. Um, let's zoom in. Hey, Andy says hey, I'm doing good. Yandi, I'm so glad you're doing good. That's so awesome. I enjoyed having your, um, your sister in class last year. It was so fun. All right guys, I'm going to lift this up. I want you to see what's happening with these colors here. This is, this is so cool. If you look in the right-hand side here, I'm going to hold steady. If you were watching and saw the colors I threw down, remember I said I was trying to make kind of a rusty look, so we kind of have that rusty look happening, and I love it. Yeah, I know I'm weird. I love to watch paint dry, but it's fun. Ah, so cool seeing you guys on Instagram. I love that. It's always fun seeing, uh, some of my former peeps pop up. And my current ones too. Um, this is awesome. Also check this, it's really all puddling down here, right? I'm just gonna— I'm gonna use gravity as our friend and I'm gonna just move it around. So you guys on Instagram, just a heads up, um, I know Instagram is— has a vertical format, so you are not seeing everything that's on screen. I am also live streaming on my YouTube channel right now and you can see everything, so So if you're interested and you're on YouTube, you can go to YouTube and look up The Ink— I-N-K— The Inkspired Life, and, um, you'll see my YouTube channel. And I'd love for you to check it out and subscribe if you want. My goal is to hit 1,000 subscribers before the end of October. I think I'm at 963, getting close. So things are starting to dry here a little bit. I'm just gonna throw us a little— some detail on here. Um, you know, let's do on the roof here. Let's— I want this to be a metal standing seam roof, so let's get a Sharpie out and I'm going to sketch some panels on here. All right. Oh, again, I am so, so excited you guys tuned in. That's so fun. We should get— I'd love to get like a whole Jefferson reunion on here. How amazing would that be? That would be so fun. Well, I guess it depends. I guess depend who who tunes in, but we'll leave it at that. All right. Hey Tyler, you're made it on the YouTube side. Thanks for going over to YouTube, I appreciate that. So let me know, Tyler, was I correct? Like, you on Instagram, you can only see a small part of my image, right? Uh, YouTube, you can see the full, the full screen. The only thing I don't like about Instagram is it, it really cuts off what I'm doing. Thanks for switching on over, that's so cool. Awesome. So I just, I sketched some, um, these lines are to represent like panels, metal panels for the roof. Up there. Did I worry about making these— these are the— these are standing seams. It's where the metal panels joined. I'm worried about making these standing seams parallel with the roof lines. No, they're wonky, right? This doesn't even match here at all, but I like that. I like that it's wonky. It just It just makes it look, um, more fun and playful. Yes, thank you, Tyler, for confirming. I, I thought Instagram did that. See, it's a much more— it's much more user-friendly. Wait, it's much more— I can't talk, I am so tired. It's much more friendly experience on YouTube. I don't know what I'm saying. I don't know what I'm saying. All right, so we have this tower back here. Let me actually zoom out so you can see that. Zoom out a little bit, you can kind of see the full picture of what I got going. There's my watercolor palette. All right, so as I look at this from a distance, I really like what's happening here. Thumbs up to that tower. The tower is going to be interesting because I want it to stand out from the sky. So right now it's white, it totally stands out. I could keep it white and just add— maybe darken the edges and stuff so it pops more. Like, I could do that with a Sharpie. And I might end up doing that, to be honest with you, but I definitely need some yellow down here on the barn. Uh, Paula says love the turquoise color for the barn. You do? Yay, thank you! I love that. There will, there will be haters. There will be haters that comment somewhere along the way, and they'll be like, they will say negative stuff. And you know what, life lesson, there's always going to be people out there that don't like you. You know what, that's on them, not you. It's easy to say, um It's taken me years and years to not take things so personally. I still do a little bit once in a while, but thank you. I'm glad you like the color. Um, it's getting really rusty and cool over here, loving it. So I wanted, I wanted to throw some yellow down. I really like this color, so we're going to throw some of this. It's almost like a highlighter color if I can open it. Got it. Um, this, this dries to a really nice color, so I'm just going to kind of layer it on here. Oh yeah, I'm liking it. Maybe, I mean, I'll throw some on the ground as well here. Sometimes what I'll do when I'm work on a sketch painting is I'll incorporate colors here into the ground. For me, it feels like it helps to tie things together a little bit. Cool. We got your back. Thanks, thanks, Tyler. I appreciate that. Um, the funny story today, let me show you guys. Quick story here, let me grab this. So I'm not going to read the book to you guys, but I actually— I brought this book into school today and I read it to my architecture classes. And yeah, I got some weird looks, like, why is— why is Mr. Nick reading a book to us? Um, we talked about why, but anyway, um So this is going to go back to the hater's comment, so I'll tie it together. This, uh, I— this is a book I illustrated back in 2013. You see my name there, boom. My friend, my friend Brittany wrote it, and so— and I did the illustrations. So it was a really fun project, but you can get it on Amazon. If you go on Amazon, you'll see user reviews, right, or feedback or comments. Um, there are some comments on there that are hater comments, and that's okay. You just have to take it, take it for what it is, right? Can I delete them? Probably. I mean, some of those comments are like 10 years, 12 years old, but it's on there and it's okay. It doesn't bother me. All right, cool. Hope you guys are liking this one here. This is turning out to be fun, fun scene. Let me zoom in closer. Uh, just gonna work on it for— time is only gonna be on for maybe, maybe 5 more minutes or so. Just want to add some Let me add some stuff, um, details to the fence. Maybe some posts. I guess I'm getting allergies. Allergies, I don't know. I guess there's fall allergies from walking outside. Alright, cool. Yes, you know, you never know in the Inkspired life what I will be rambling about. Welcome to the Rambling Show. I gotta pop some orange on here. We're gonna break out some Inferno Orange. Oh yeah, love Inferno Orange. So Paula, I know if you're still out there, Paula, you've watched a few of these streams. You probably notice a, a pattern of, you know, steps I'm doing. Colors I'm using. So even though I'm using like the same kind of process, the same kind of colors, the results are— they're always different. And that's a really cool thing. I'm not sitting here stressing about, um, what am I going to do next, or, or what color am I going to pick next. I'm just kind of grabbing, going with stuff I know And I love that it's just— it always comes out different. I, I love Inferno Orange. This is a pretty strong color, and this dries like nothing else. And my phone just said, reflect on your day, take a second to log how you felt today. I don't know if you guys have the app, it might be the Apple um, the Health app. I get these reminders. And I'm literally just tapping it down here, and this is going to make it look a little distressed, a little weathered, um, here by adding a layer. This is kind of uneven looking, and I— that's what I'm going for, the unevenness. Ed on Paper joined. Um, well, I think, Ed, if you're still out there on Instagram, hello. And if you're not, hello. The other thing about Instagram is you can't watch replays. Come on, Instagram, what's up with that? The other thing with Instagram is I can't, I can't live stream How do I say this? On my phone, I can't directly livestream with Instagram because I don't have a— was it 1,000 followers or something? I used to be able to. It kind of stinks. So I'm, I'm livestreaming right now through, um, an app I use. Yeah, cool. And Paul, this turquoise is going to come back with an even stronger appearance on this, and not, not in the form of watercolor, but I will— I'll break out the turquoise. Where is it? Where the heck is it? Here it is. I will break this out. Maybe I'll throw some down right now before I leave. Favorite Sharpie creative marker color is turquoise. I guess maybe that's my favorite color, turquoise, and I love fluorescent and bright pinks. Oh yeah, and apple snail. All right, let's throw some turquoise on here and I'll just pop some of it out a little bit more. Yandi, did I lose you? Yandi might be off. And I get it, it's all good. But if you're still there, thanks for watching. All right, what am I going to throw this down at? Um, let's see, I'm thinking too much. I'm going to pop some down here for now. I really want to do some on the roof, the rough area, as we say. When I went to school down in Miami, the rough here, and I'll bring it up so you can really see that turquoise popping. And again, I'm just adding kind of layers to make it look distressed, very uneven. And it's the unevenness in my brain that makes it look old and worn, and that's the vibe I'm going for. I do appreciate you guys watching so much. Thank you for your— for spending some time with me, whether you're multitasking or trying to fall asleep to my voice. Um, it's all good. I appreciate— I just appreciate your time. You know what I'm gonna do? All right, since I have this turquoise out, I remember I was talking about what color do we do this kind of tower, or maybe even silo structure. Let's just throw some turquoise on the roof, maybe just as a base layer, because I think that turquoise pops against the sky. And that was my biggest fear— or not fear, but challenges— how, what do I use, what color do I use to make it pop out from the background. So I think this turquoise will work. I don't want to get too cray cray with it. Oh man, where'd I put the cap? Here it is. Hey M, good to see you, hope all's well. I see M over on the Instagram. This is cool, guys. You know, all right, here's— I want to add some— I'm gonna add shingles to this tower piece. Let me zoom in, I'll show you how I'm going to do that. Let's make it look kind of shingle-y. Is that a word? Shingle-y? Shingle-ish? So I'm just going to do these kind of wonky horizontal lines. They're kind of light intentionally. I don't want them to be too strong. And then I'll show you how do we make those look shingle-y. So I'll do that, and then the last thing I'll do is I'll add some hatching lines to create shadows. Hey, shout out to M. M, I don't know if you saw the other— I posted what we talked about earlier today. It's posted, so I don't know if you checked it out. And here we go. This is just how I'm going to show shingles, just kind of do some vertical lines here. The idea is just to create the idea that there's texture on here. Tyler says, no problem, honestly, you were the best teacher I had. Oh, Tyler, you You're awesome, man. Thank you for saying that. I really appreciate that. And have awesome people like you say things like that, it means a lot to me. So thanks, it makes it all worth it. I have been really, really blessed to have some amazing students since I've been teaching, so I don't take— I don't take that for granted at all. It makes up for— well, let's just say the amazing students stand out in my mind, so I appreciate that. I saw it posted and I posted on my story. Oh good, I'm so glad you did that. That's cool, love that. Thanks, M. Good stuff. Cool. I I am liking the kind of the white tower in the background. I don't know if I'll add color to it. What I'll do is I'll definitely pop it out more and do, um, outline it with a Sharpie, or I have a Creative Marker. This isn't it, but I have a black one that I used to outline too. All right, there's some really, really cool things happening on this. All right, like, I'm gonna build up suspense. I'm gonna zoom in on how this is drying. And it's actually really, really cool. All right, you guys ready? Am I building up enough suspense? Because I could drag it out. All right, I'm gonna zoom in. So this— I won't finish this today. I'll have to come back after it dries, add more stuff on it. I saw outline it. Okay. Yeah, I love— I will outline. I love the feedback, thank you. All right, let's zoom in. Check out how this is drying. Um, it might be hard to pick up on camera right now, but I'll point it out anyway. Here, let me get a pointer. We'll use this. All right, this area is drying. It is— this is really cool in person. So I put that Inferno Orange that actually has like gold flecks in it, so when it dries it kind of shimmers. This looks so cool. You know, think back to the rusty, right? We talked about making it rusty looking. That is so happening here. And then I love, love, love— did I say the word love? Yeah, I love this. I love— look what's happening with these colors over here. Holy moly, wow, that looks amazing. M says, can you guess what I'm doing? You, you are sketching. You are working on the design for the classroom entry. That's my guess. Um, so if you guys have been watching me, feel free to always sketch along or paint along with me. I know I pop up unannounced a lot, but yeah, be cool to see what you guys are doing. Tyler says it's really, really bringing out the rusted look you were going for. Thanks, man. Yeah, it is. I'm actually really, really happy with, with what is happening here, 100%. I am— says I'm right. Yep, yep, I knew it. That's awesome. I can't wait to see it. Um, this is cool. It might be a wrap for tonight on this, guys. Yeah, I'm just thinking in my brain, I think I want it to dry a little bit more. All right, so let's kind of wrap up what we did a little bit here. Um, obviously we sketched the barn, so we have a barn going here. I kind of work in layers or sittings or sessions, whatever you want to call it. So today we was kind of sitting number 1. I did more than usual, I think, but I usually will start with a Sharpie, do the kind of the, the black lines, just get the shapes down. Then I'll come back and add some watercolor, um, and add some ink on it and let the colors kind of do their thing. Um, after that dries, I'll come back and I'll add some hatch lines. Hatch lines will help create shadows. Um, and I might just finish it with some shadows, some little bit more colors here and there, and outline some stuff. That'd be cool. Awesome. All right guys, let me know if you have any funny— any final questions or comments as I wrap up. Actually, maybe I can do hatch lines on here. Is it dry enough? It might be dry enough. Actually, I'll do it on this side. So these are hatch lines. Hatch lines are just, well, what I'm drawing. These are hatch lines. Trying to describe what they are, and I'm actually just doing it. So by adding those hatch lines, it kind of creates like an overhang where that roof eave is, right? A little bit of depth. I'll do the same thing over on this side, but this is too wet, so I can't do it here yet. Um, maybe we'll add some across here. Maybe this top of this barn kind of sticks out a little bit, right? So we got a little bit of some hatch lines on there as well. Paul says, and I love that you use all kinds of media. Hey Paul, thank you so much, I appreciate that. It's, um It's fun. It's fun just to be playful and mix different kinds of media and just go for it. So it really helps us to develop, I think, creative confidence by throwing a bunch of stuff down. Um, so I love doing that, but I, I think my most powerful sketches are the black and white ones. I don't think I have any I don't have any nearby, but I, I do love adding mixed media stuff as well. Um, there's just something about the look of Sharpie, watercolor ink, and then color pencil. Color pencil is like the— it's like the bomb, man, throwing down. I don't know if I can say that on YouTube. Hope they don't block me. It's like the most amazing thing. Um, right here. I love throwing colored pencil down on this stuff, especially when it dries. I'll throw a little bit here. And what's really cool about the mixed media is each, each medium has a different feel as you put it down. So not only are we having like a visual experience with, with a different media. But if you kind of focus and zoom in, there's actually like a tactile quality, or you can kind of feel, um, feel the media as it goes down. So color pencil kind of— especially, I love these. I love this brand. This is Prismacolor Premier. Sorry, it's upside down. Prismacolor Premier, favorite color pencils. They go down like butter. It just feels so smooth. And then when you put the water down here for the paint, you just get like a splashy feeling. So creativity, artwork, sketching isn't really— isn't all just about what we're seeing. It's about what we're hearing as we do it. It's about how we're feeling as we do it. So it really is about all of your senses except maybe tasting. Because I don't really want to taste any of this paint. Um, but yeah, this actually looks cool here too, like a little fall. Maybe I should— maybe I'll draw pumpkins on this at some point. All right, I'm rambling. Hey Zach, if you're on Instagram, good to see you. Or Emily, I don't know if Zach's still on Instagram. Hey, when you're on Instagram, guys, just let me know Can you see like other people's names in the stream? Like, I know on YouTube you can. I really haven't watched Instagram Lives, isn't that funny? I'm guessing you could see the people all watching it. I am— I'm just throwing down some pencil since I talked about it. Chartreuse. Chartreuse is the way to go. I love it. Tyler says, have an amazing night, I'll be at the next one. Hey Tyler, that'd be great if you're, uh, if you see me live streaming and you're around, pop on. Be great to see you, man. Thanks for tuning in. Glad you're doing well. All right guys, it's gonna be a wrap for me. It's after 9. I was only gonna be on till 8:30. Yeah, where'd that go? Um, thank you so much for all your positivity, your comments. Um, I love it. It fires me up. It keeps me going. So thank you for that. Thank you for your time. Until we meet again, sketch boldly, live creatively, and inspire endlessly. Don't forget to check out my other YouTube videos. I have a TikTok as well. Yeah, I do, doing this kind of stuff. And Facebook and Instagram. So there you go. Take care, guys.
