Tuesday Night Sketching

Jason sketches the Brooklyn Bridge live, layering acrylics and markers while taking color suggestions from chat. He talks through his materials—Prismacolors, gel pens, craft paper—and how improvisation shapes his approach to art as a mental reset.

Hey, it's February 24, 2026. Tuesday night, 8:45pm Here in the awesome Garden State of New Jersey. The awesome snowy Garden State of New Jersey. Hope you're having a great day. I'm Jason with the inspired life where I love sketching, sketching architecture, sketching, all kinds of things and just being creative and coming online and chatting and answering questions and just putting good vibes out there. So I hope you're doing well. I don't know what I'm gonna do tonight. I rarely plan ahead. So let's see where this stream's gonna take us. Just gotta click the go live button here on Instagram. So I live stream on Instagram, YouTube and Facebook all at the same time. I could do tick tock too, but I think my signals not good for that. Let's see. Aha. Instagram is not says error starting stream in Instagram. All right, that's all good. We're going to move ahead without Insta tonight. So you can see here's a sketch I did last night of Little Islands nyc. And I am not cray cray about it. So what I want to do is going to throw stuff on top of this. We're going to treat this like maybe a scrap piece of paper. I'm going to throw some acrylic paint, I think, on it because I'm looking at some here. So this is what I call grab and go creativity. Just going to grab with whatever is on my desk right now and we'll see what we can work with. We'll add to this. In the end, it may look like nothing but a piece of paper with a bunch of colors. And that is cool with me. I'm not after any end result other than just having fun. Hey, let me know if you guys can hear me. Okay. If my music is too loud, I am playing music in the background. If it's too loud, let me know. Good to see you, Becky and Jenner in house. Good to see you guys. Hope you're doing awesome. I appreciate you tuning in. Yeah. So I'll do a little talking as I always do, and of course we'll do some sketching, painting and whatnot. All right, There we go. Cool. All right, let's just do it. I'm gonna talk and we'll throw down some colors. I'm. I've been eyeing up this fluorescent red since I've been sitting here, so let's throw some on. Hope you're having a good day. I. I don't know. School is kind of wonky. Today started off kind of wonky, but ended. Ended on a really good note. I mean, nothing. Yeah, nothing bad happened. Just. I don't know, just some rudeness. Just a lot of rudeness out there. But that's why we always try to be the best of our game. Top of our game. That's why I love doing this stuff here. It just kind of always brings me. Brings me back to a state of Zen. So I'll bring my sketchbook. I 99% of the time have my journal with me. And if I feel like my brain needs a little break, a little stop in the action, a little bit of change of pace, I'll bring out that sketchbook and I'll just throw something on it. And that's what's really fun about for me, the power of sketching, painting, creating, drawing. It just changes. It can change my state of being. Thank you guys for watching. Let me know if you have any questions. Also let me know in the back. Let me also know your thoughts about. Should I play music? Not play music. It's up to you guys. I need music for me to hear. But if you don't care about hearing it, I can definitely turn it down. Turn it off. Or I can turn it up if you'd rather hear that than me. So I'm throwing down some just red fluorescent. I already like this better. I wasn't cray cray about this sketch I did last night. So I thought, you know what, let's just throw some stuff on top of it and see what happens. This is a fun color to use. So I acrylic paint, throw a little bit of water on it to thin it out. And I like the transparency of it. Pretty cool, right? Which is interesting because this is something usually I'll throw down acrylic first and then sketch on top of it. This is different. We're going on top of the sketch. And I actually like the transparency of it. So there you go. That alone, it will alone for me was worth the price of admission. Becky says don't let neon pink know you're bringing out fluorescent red. Yes. Yeah, neon pink will get jealous. But you know what, Becky? Look what we got here. We got some reflex rose, which is basically like neon pink. So let's throw some of that down on. Since you said that. Love that. This is like co creation. It's almost like improv. So I used to do improv. Gosh, seven or eight years, I was in two different improv troops. If you've seen the TV show Whose Line is It Anyway? We did that kind of stuff. I love, loved it. Had to always be on top of your game. Think off your feet. Well, not think off your feet, because that's a weird expression. Now I think about it. If you think off your feet, is it on your feet? Yeah, because I don't want to think my feet off, but I do want to open this lid, and I can't open it. Oh, my gosh. I think the ink dried this lid shut. There we go. We got it. So you have to think on your feet, which is cool. So where was I going with that? Oh, yeah. So be. It's kind of fun on these chats. Sometimes if we almost do, like, an improv creation session where you guys throw ideas, suggestions, and I see what I can incorporate. So I saw Becky say pink. So we're throwing on pink. I like. Let's combine the pink over the red. So this will be fun. I want to. I want to intensify it. So I'm going to throw a little bit more down here. There we go. Kind of cool. All right, so I should be streaming on Facebook. I don't know if I'm streaming on Facebook on both my inspired life and personal pages or just one. I was trying to stream to both. I'm gonna just lift some of that off. So I'm just peeling back some of that color here. Let some of the colors underneath show a little bit. So, right. We think about adding layers of color. You can also take layers away. Right. This is cool. If you're just joining me, I really appreciate it. I'm Jason with the Inspired life where I love sketching architecture, throwing down color grab and go creating. And I'm just chatting with you guys. A little positive motivation, a little bit creative motivation, all that fun stuff. I'm feeling blue. Not well. I'm feeling blue. So let's throw down some acrylic blue. I'm gonna throw some colors down. Then we're gonna actually. We'll do a sketch, and we might do a Brooklyn Bridge sketch. My friendship sent a picture to me today. He texted a picture to me, so I might pull out that picture and we'll do a sketch of the Brooklyn Bridge. I just wanted to really just throw down some colors on this. Just play around for a few minutes on the sketch I did yesterday. And there we go. Oh, I'm getting stuff. I'm getting paint all over, and I'm just going to pull some of this off, And I think we're gonna let this dry and we'll. Let's let's do a sketch of the Brooklyn Bridge. So I'm just peeling some of this off because I do want to see that sketch underneath, see how it's kind of transforming a little bit. All right, here you go. It's looking kind of cool. I'll hold it close. All right, so I'm gonna let this dry. Let's pull out my other blank sheet of paper. Let's sketch one of my favorite NYC landmarks, the Brooklyn Bridge. Let's put this over here. And should we sketch. Should we sketch in here? Are on some Soho craft paper. You know what? I think let's. Let's sketch on some craft paper tonight. So I love this paper. I love the way the colors pop on it. All right, got a blank sheet of paper. Sharpie, throw down some colors. All right, I'm going to shut that down. Boom. Your first layers dry super fast. Not much mixing at all. Yeah, let me pull that back here. So this. This acrylic paint dries pretty quickly, especially when it's. You're in, like, a dry environment. So this room is pretty dry right now from the heat. So it's drying even quicker. And. And I waited a few minutes, and if I come back now, actually, I'll show you. We'll just keep using this brush before it dries. Totally. We can come back and just scrape off even some more layers if we want. Sometimes I'll use, like, a credit card or I'll even just take a paper and kind of fold it and scrape it with it. So. Yeah, good. That's a good observation, Becky. Good observation. Love it. All right, Brooklyn Bridge time. Let's put on some of my Spotify channel here. This is some Spotify music. If it actually opens on my phone, That's weird. My Spotify is not opening. What did I do? What the heck? Here we go. I think it's going now. Spotify is acting wonky. Let me pull up a picture that my friend Chip sent to me that I can use as a ref. So it's my favorite view of the bridge. I've sketched this view before. We'll do a quick, quick sketch. So I'm starting with a Sharpie. I'm going to come back and we'll add. I think we'll throw down some color. Maybe some creative marker on top. I just want to throw down a base. Kind of a base. I could start with here. I hope if you. Wherever you live, if you had snow, I hope you fared well in the. All that crazy snow that happened. We have a couple more Inches on the way here tomorrow morning, which is nothing after I want to say we had 6, 16 inches here. I'm not sure if I've heard a lot of different numbers. I feel like it was like 16 inches. So these are. This is a guardrail here. I'm going to sketch in. This is going to help with a little bit of perspective. Looking at the bridge, so it looks like it has a little bit of depth to it. You know, sketches can be like people. They can have personalities. They can have depth to them. They can tell stories, they can hide information. They can show information, convey emotion. Sketching is just really. It's like another language, really. It just speaks to people in different ways, whether you're looking at it or you're creating it. That's one of the things I just love about doing this. It's sometimes says things that I can't express. So I'm able to do it through the line work. Just convey, like, an attitude or a message. I'm not the most eloquent person. Is that the word eloquent? Speaker. I'm a bumbler and fumbler when I speak, and I'm proud of that. That's who I am. So sketching is a way for me to kind of get things out of my brain and convey to people sometimes. There we go. It's looking cool. I like it. Hopefully it's looking like the Brooklyn Bridge. I don't know if I'm going to throw any color on this yet. I want to just keep going black and white with it. I kind of like where it's heading. Becky says craft paper is a fun change. Yeah, Becky. I like a really, like, craft paper. I like it a lot. It's very thin paper, so I can't really do, like, any heavy watercolor washes or ink washes on it. But I love it. I mean, you can just see how the colors. I mean, especially white. I love the way the white pops off of this. This is the Addams Family house. Inspired by the Addams Family House. Right? Just check out the colors, the way they kind of jump off the page. Here's the Beetlejuice house. I love this. It's one of my faves. I love the Beetle House. Beetle House. Beetlejuice House. Should I say that? Should I say it three times? Should I say it three times? Let me know. Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice. Be. I'm not going to say it. Not going to say it. We don't need any ghosts popping up right now. So I have a pretty good outline Here, let's do some hatching to give it a little bit of depth to it. A little bit of Johnny Depth. Johnny Depp. We have some cables, some vertical cabling happening. I'm going to pull the shape of this pilaster out. Boom. Just so it. Because it does protrude out a little bit. So just by darkening the line, I want to. To pop out. Then let's. Let's draw in. Let's sketch in the planks. There's wooden planks here, so to get that kind of depth to it, I'm going to. The planks will be closer, spaced closer. Here, as I come towards the front or the bottom of the page, the planks will get further apart, and it helps to create that illusion of depth. So there you go. Right, So I think you can see it's wider here. And then the spacing gets closer and closer as we get towards the back. Let's show some of the stones around here. This is a detail I rarely sketch. Let's show some of these stones here. All right, so that's how it's looking so far. I'm digging it. Part of me wants to use a color between the arches and the background and not add color on the bridge, but a background behind it. And the color that is coming into my brain is yellow. Yeah, I just said yellow. I think I saw a comment. Someone. I think there was a comment. One of my recent sketches, someone did not like yellow, but that's okay. Everybody has their own opinion, which is great. Right? That's what's so cool. And I love getting comments like that because I know people are actually looking at it, but I'm feeling like I want to do yellow. So let's do it. We'll use a creative marker for that. Oh, that is white. That is not yellow. Here's yellow. Yeah, I'll do it. I'm thinking twice about it. But you know what? I don't like to do that. When I start overthinking things, then nothing gets done. It just kind of freezes me. So we're just gonna do it. It's just want to have fun tonight. And I'm feeling yellow. It's is. So let's throw down some yellow. All right, I need to change the song. All right, so we're just going to throw down some yellow here, And I think I'm actually going to do around the bridge as well. So sometimes when I'm sketching architecture, I don't always. Sometimes I don't add any color. Sometimes I'll add Color on the building and background or just the building. And in this case, I'm gonna do just the background. And I think leave the bridge just black lines, because I really like the black lines. I don't know what's up with my Spotify. I keep stopping. Did I not pay my subscription? No. All right. No, I know I did. All right. Boom. And actually, I have one other idea. I want these. The cables. The steel cables to pop out. So I think I'm going to just use white. A white sharp Sharpie marker for those. All right, let's do here. I'm going to be brave and just do this part. All right, so we got some yellow on there as well. It's gonna let it kind of bleed off the side. Boom. Theoretically, the bridge continues. So I'm not going to add yellow. I could do a yellow frame, but I think I'm just going to leave it like that. Cool. Yeah. I feel like I need something down here, so I'll come back to that. But so far, I like it. I kind of like how the arches pop out. Let's see. We have a white creative marker. I also have a white gel pen. We will play around both of those and see what we like better. So this is a. This is a gel pen. Let me zoom in actually, too. There we go. So I'm just using white because I want these cables to pop. These cables are an iconic part of the Brooklyn Bridge. Obviously, they're structural, but even visually, they're just. The bridge wouldn't be the same without these cables. Yeah. I like how the. I like the white, how it's popping out. That looks really cool. It. It's kind of cool, right? Becky says with all the cold weather and snow, I have been drawn towards warmer colors when creating too. Yeah. You know, that makes a lot of sense. We're long. We're longing for warmer, vibrant colors. Days, so. Yeah. So I love that you mentioned that. I feel the same way. I really, really like this a lot. I don't think I need to do too much more other than maybe just pull out some of the. The lines of the bridge with just black. But I'm. I'm not going to add any other colors. Going to limit this. I'm loving the cables. They really pop. This. This is that Sharpie I just can't part with. I keep. I should have thrown it away weeks ago, but I can't part with it. I could. I could use a black fountain pen, since I don't. I'm not planning on coloring this with Ink or watercolor so I wouldn't have to worry about the black ink running and getting all mucky. So maybe we'll play with this cool little fountain pen from Muji Mu J I. Because I'm. You'll get the darker outlines I'm looking for. Oh, sorry. I was just blocking the whole camera. What's that expression? I make a better window than a door? Some kind of expression like that. You make a better window than a door, I guess, because you could see through the window, not through the door. Unless it was a glass door. Maybe. I just want to pull these arches out a little bit. I almost want to add some kind of color, maybe white, to those keystones. So the keystones are these triangular stones at the top of the arches, but maybe not. I didn't show any of the stone work on here. I don't think I want to. I think I'm gonna leave the stone work off. If I add the stonework lines, the horizontal lines, it'll probably compete a lot with the. The cables, the white cables. And I really like that look, so I don't want to compete with those cables. So I'm gonna not show any of the horizontal stonework on the bridge structure. I'm gonna leave it kind of clean. This one might be done, guys. I'm loving it. Wrap this one up. Then I'll pull out the one I threw some acrylic on top of and see how that dried. What time is it? 9:21. I will. I will not be on past 9:30 because I am tired. But I wanted to come on, say hello, do my daily sketching. So I've been pretty good. I've live streamed straight for a bunch of days now, so that's been fun. I appreciate you all tuning in. All right, guys, I think this Brooklyn bridge is done. Let's put a frame around to see what it looks like. Greed looks way wicked awesome. Hey, thank you, Becky. You're always so positive. I appreciate that. Where are my black frames? Here they are. One of these days, I'll get bigger. Some bigger frames, but let's just throw this on here. This looks really cool with a black frame around it. What do you all think? I likey, likey. No, we can't do that. We can't do that. We gotta show the. This definitely needs to be vertical, not landscape. Let's try this bigger frame. I might paint this black sometime. Same color as the craft paper. Craft paper. So it's really not showing what I wanted to show. All right, so here we go. Brooklyn Bridge. Very, very cool. Hold it close. You can see kind of some of the line work up close. What is that? All right, let's see how the acrylic paint is drying on the other one. That was fun. I feel so much better now that I sketched. Put some color on there. It's like magic. All right, here's how this one's drying. So the acrylic paint is. Is totally dry. It dries so fast. Some reasons I love it, it's so. It's kind of cool. I like that it's transparent. You can see through underneath. Becky says bold and powerful with the black frame. Yeah, This looks kind of. Kind of cool. Let's see. Got a few minutes. All right, I'm feeling purple on here. Should I. Yeah, I'm doing it. I'm using purple just to pull out kind of where I had that black hatching for shadows. I'm just throwing some purple on top of it. And when the purple dries, I'll come back with a sharpie and we'll put those hatch lines on it. I love the look of hatch lines. They're very, for me, energetic. But I think of this purple color is kind of cool. All right, so there's the purple, And we'll throw some hatch lines. But you know what? I am not going to use black. We're going to revisit that white gel pen we just used on the Brooklyn Bridge sketch. Let's do it. So that's kind of what looks like up close. It. All right, so there we. We have some of the white on. I like it. I like it. Like it. I almost want to pull out the edge of the little island structures here. Yeah, let's do it. Can use the white again? All right. I think I like this little island the way it came out with the overlay of some acrylics with the gel pen on there as well. The white gel pen. I like it better than the way I started with. So if you haven't. If you missed the beginning, definitely go back and check it out. You can see what it looked like before. And I actually did a. This is what I did yesterday on the live stream. I did this well before we changed it today. You can see the original version of this. How we. How we all created that. I think it was a team effort online, so I think we had some suggestions. Yeah, it looks kind of cool. Hold it closer. You can see some of the line details here. So that's a little island sketch. Let's bring. Bring back the Brooklyn Bridge sketch. Tongue Twister. Bring back the Brooklyn Bridge sketch. Bring back the Brooklyn Bridge. All right, here it is. All right, so here's how the Brooklyn Bridge one's looking. Yeah, I think I like them. All right, let me know if you guys have any last questions or comments. Put it in the chat before I head out. Hey, JLM5. Seventeen rocks. How are you? Love these. Oh, thank you so much. I'm glad you. You love them. Yeah, I think they're fun. Just for comparison, let me also break out this here. This is one I did in 2023. So I'm gonna let you guys in on a little secret. You can see all three. I think I finally worked up the courage to take a bunch of my sketches and go to Central park and sell them. My friend Alex, who I met through my friend Rue, Alex sells paintings, and he's awesome. He sells paintings in Central park or prints of paintings. And he. I met him a few times, and he's like, you guys come over here and set up. So I think I'm gonna go on a Saturday and we'll set up, set up next to him, and we'll just put some sketches out and see what happens. I would love to sell them. Not really for money, but just to get them out of my room into the hands of people that really. I do appreciate them, but I would love for other people to appreciate and enjoy these awesome New York City sketches. So that'll be fun. That's a spring time thing I'm doing. Going to do. Let's hold this up here, too. This is another Brooklyn Bridge I did the other day. I have so many sketches, guys. I kind of. I kind of like. I don't know. There's something about each of these I like. I don't know if I could. If I had to pick a favor. Let me zoom all the way out. Hey, Chip, you're on. Chip. Thank you. You actually, you inspired the Brooklyn Bridge sketch with your picture you sent to me today. So shout out to you. That's. This is the sketch I did right here tonight on the Brooklyn Bridge. So they're all kind of cool. I'm just curious, you guys in the chat, let me know which, if any, of these do you like? Do you like the most? I know they're all different, different subjects. I'm just curious, what do you vibe with the most, if any? Let me grab a drink of water. Love it. The yellow is fabulous. Oh, you like the yellow? Yeah. I'm gonna hold that closer so you can get a better view of the bridge. So you can see the detail. I do love the yellow here. Now you can kind of see it better. I really love the white steel cables. Yeah. I think the yellow just really kind of pulls out the arches and the kind of outline of the top. The top of the bridge structure. Pretty cool. Wow. We did. We did quite a few things tonight on our live stream. So Brooklyn Bridge, little island. I'm not gonna pull. I have a couple other things here. Do we frame? We didn't put a frame around this one. Let's note to self, buy bigger black matte frames here. Let's just kind of pull this closer with. Imagine the opening was a little bit bigger. Right. Looks cool with the mat around it. JLM says yellow. Repeat. Repeat it with a different toned paper. Like Strathmore's toned blue paper. Yeah, I'll try that. Thank you, Al. I'll do some Brooklyn Bridge sketches on different toned paper. It's a cool idea. I don't. I don't have any here now, but I think it's a cool idea. Just to try that as an experiment. That would be a lot of fun. I'm definitely liking the Kraft paper 110%. I wish. I wish it was a little thicker. That's the only thing about this paper. I wish it was a little heavier. But the craft markers work really well on it, and they hold up. But you can see that Sharpie starting to bleed through the back. What I love about these SoHo sketchbooks, I love that they lay flat. That is huge. That is huge. These page. These pages will lay flat, which I love. That's a big, big plus for these. Yeah. I have to say these are my new fave things. And I have different size. I have another one here that's five and a half by five and a half. I have another one. It's the same size as this one. There was a big sale at. I forget which store. Online, maybe through Amazon. I can't remember. I. I probably bought like 10 or 12 different SoHo, different types of SoHo books. Did I do any sketches in this one? I don't even know. And they do have heavier paper. No, I didn't. I didn't do anything in this one yet. But I like the format of it. Five and a half by five and a half. Pretty cool, actually. Let me. What else do I have? Just grab this one as handy. So this one's called Soho Brick Mixed media paper. Here's the other one. This is craft. This is mixed media. So this is actually. This is white. This is white in here. And It's a heavier, thicker paper. This is 65 pounds. Is 95 pound weight. I kind of wish the craft paper was a little heavier, like the 95 pound. These are great, portable sizes, and I love that they have a little elastic enclosure, so they're really cool. Books. Bring frames to demo on site. Yeah, that's actually a very cool idea too. Thank you. I love the ideas you guys are coming up with. Glue two sheets together using matte medium to thicken the craft paper. Oh, yeah, I could do that. I can glue. That's a good idea. If I just kind of glue two of these together. You are on fire with the ideas. Love it. Maybe save some heavy weights. Brown paper bags. Yeah, Becky. I have some brown paper bags. They are awesome. I love using colored pencils on paper bags, which is basically like this. I haven't used the craft markers, but I'm sure they would be amazing. But color pencils on brown paper bags. I'm looking to see if I have any. Oh, you know what I have. I don't even. I don't know where I got this stuff, guys, but I have this whole roll. This is, like, paper bag material. It's a big, giant roll. I don't know how long it rolls out to, but I want to do a really cool. Maybe a Brooklyn Bridge sketch or either that or Statue of Liberty torch. I mean, So it's a pretty good size. So thank you for reminding me about that. Now maybe if you remind me about a million dollars, I can turn around and pull that out too. Just saying it's working with the paper bag stuff, so. So feel free to mention that in the chat and we'll see. If I could turn around and pull out a million, and that's just a random number. I would just. I would just take enough to pay off my credit card bills and house and car payments, and you get. You get it. Chip says Blizzard of 26. People in the park would love the connection. They could own a piece of the event. Yeah, you know what, Chip? That's true. I love that connection. I didn't blizzardize this bridge, but I could blizzardize it. Is that a word? Blizzard? Ice it. I could blizzard it up. I might try that. I would try that on a different sketch because I love the way this came out. But I'll do another one maybe this week, and we'll try to blizzard it up. So maybe the bridge becomes more like white color or even where we have some snow or something happening on the. I could do even. Actually. I could even do that. Do white here, here. On the plank. On the planks. All kinds of possibilities. You guys are on fire tonight. Lucky you. Lucky you. Hang, hang, tie, roll up and attitude daily. An accordion sketchbook. I can make a good accordion. I could do like this, right? So if I take, you know, kind of like I did with. The Pont Neuf bridge in Paris on the Seine, I. So I was playing. I never weathered, weatherized, or aged rather, or distressed a sketch before. This was the first attempt at it with the spraying and the different colorizations. I like it. I really like the way it came out. So it was good practice, good learning technique. But, yeah, I could definitely do something like this. With that roll of paper I showed you, I can make it into these accordion books. That'd be. It's a cool idea, right? So I love that idea. Yeah, just. This is a fun sketch too. This came out really cool. Yes. Yeah. Right? So. And what's cool about the craft paper? This brown paper roll. Actually, you know what, guys? While we're talking, let me just do something, something on it. You got me going. You got me going. I could do this 24 7. This is my love, my passion. Thanks for letting me come online and share this with you guys. And I love the engagement. So keep. Keep asking away, talking away. This is so fun for me. But let's. I'm curious. Let's see what something looks like on this paper. So gonna just cut a piece off. Got an exacto here. Let's just cut a little square off or something. Let's see. Let's test the craft markers on it, and I'll show you some color pencil. I am not measuring this. My blade needs to be sharper, and I should have it in more when I'm cutting. I'm going into teacher mode here. Oh, this blade is horrible. Pro tip. Always cut with a sharp blade, not a dull blade. That's a pro tip. And using the X acto knife, you want a sharp, sharp blade. Because if it's dull, you try to push on it. If you push too hard, things could go wrong. All right, let's zoom in. Bada boom, bada bam. There we go. So if you already look at this paper, you can see the fibers in it, right? There's different fibers holding this together, so it has a little bit of a texture to it, which is fun. I like the white flex. I don't know what that is, but. All right, let's do super duper. Let's just use a sharpie. Do super quick thingy here, Here. Sorry. Let's do. Can you guys see that? Yes, of course. That Sharpie doesn't work. This is the Sharpie I talked about an hour ago that I should have thrown out. But it's my best Sharpie friend. I can't get rid of it. All right, there's. Here we go. Quick. This is just for fun. I want to see how this paper works. All right, let's throw down some. There's some yellow on there. This is yellow. I'm just curious how this paper is going to look compared to the Soho paper I just used. So it's definitely a rougher paper. I can feel the. The brush or the tip of this pen. I'm sorry. This marker is. I can feel it kind of scratching on the paper more. So it's a little scratchier. We'll see how it dries. What else should we throw down? Let's throw down some here. We have some. We'll do some white cables on here. Some white cables happening. I want to pull out my colored pencils. Let's plot. Those are pens. Got colored pencils in here. Let's just throw down some color. I didn't use colored pencils on the other sketch, but that's cool. Let's try some aqua on here. Just curious. So I check this out. I love this aqua color on craft paper. I'm gonna leave some spacing in between so you can kind of see some texture. Look at this. I love the texture of colored pencils on this paper bag material. 100%. This is really exciting to me, Just the color and the texture here. And I guess it has to do with the fiber of this. This paper. I mean, that looks. That's really fun. So I could skip. I could sketch on this with color pencil all day long. I love it. All right, where's here? So here's this one. Obviously, there are two different quality of sketchings here, but here, zoom out. So the. The thing I really like about this paper, the heavier paper is the texture of texture showing through on the paper. You can see it here with the color. Sorry. The creative markers. This is very smooth. So I guess it's like watercolor paper. Hot press and cold press, Right? This would be the cold press paper with the texture, the heavier weight. And this would be the hot press paper. That's smoother. That was fun. Oh, let me try the gel pen. Oh, no, I didn't do that. Let me try the gel pen on this. And I think there was a question that popped in. All right, as we get ready, as we wind down Let me know if there's any final questions or comments for tonight. I do want to try the gel pen on this. We'll just. Just draw some bricks or something. Some blocks. Yeah. So there's. I love the gel pen on this as well. This paper. Here's something cool that I like. So a couple things about this gel pen. And on this paper, I. I like the lines here get closer. They're not consistent. So it's not a solid, consistent white line. It kind of starts and stops, so to speak. And I look. Look how the strokes end. Boom, boom. Look at, like, the heavy kind of marks at the end. You can see it all the way up. I'll do one right here, too. So I love how the lines end with these kind of blips. Here's kind of that broken line I'm talking about, which is an aesthetic, the style that I love. So that's really cool. So that's one of the reasons I kind of like the rougher paper to get those variations. All right. We love. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Neon bridge. Thanks for coming along. Of course. I appreciate it. White acrylic paint splatter. Makes good snow on brown paper. Ooh. Good pro tip, Becky. That's a really good pro tip. I will. You know what? Maybe I'll try that when I winterize. Blizzardize. The Brooklyn Bridge sketch. That'll be fun. And maybe I'll do that in the next live stream. If you guys tune in, maybe we'll do another Brooklyn Bridge sketch and we'll try to winterize it. That would be fun, wouldn't it? We love hanging out with you, of course. Yeah. No, I appreciate you guys. Anyone else a little jealous of my students? Oh, you're so kind. You don't. I appreciate that. I am really blessed. I have to say. I love teaching. It is trying at times. I have students that are trying at times, but we all are as humans. Right? But I do. I could. I do love teaching. Yeah, it's. Let me just tell you one thing. If anybody out there wants to be a teacher, or if you are a teacher, you probably can relate to this. Teaching takes a lot of energy, physical and mental energy. I am so drained at the end of a school day. Usually I'm really drained because I put 110 into what I'm doing. So, yes. If you're ever going to be a teacher or you are a teacher, it's. I feel like that's why I'm working on my health. One of the reasons, because I love teaching, but it knocks me out. How did I get down that rabbit hole? Holy moly. Sorry. I don't know how I got on that path, but thank you for that comment. Which pencils do you prefer? Yes, that's an easy answer for me. So I'm not really well versed in a lot of different color pencils. I love My number one go to color pencils are the Prismacolor Premiere. Prismacolor Premiere. Hey, here's my neon pink one. Can you see on screen there? Prismacolor Premiere came on camera. Focus, focus, focus. That is not focused. Sorry. Prismacolor Premier color pencils. So I like them because, for me, they just kind of glide on paper like butter. Well, wait, I don't use butter. When I don't put butter on paper, they. Oh, my gosh. What am I trying to say? You know, I'm trying to say they're smooth. Smooth like butter. Yeah. This is why I don't teach. Told you. I bumble and stumble when I talk. That's who I am. Reminds me of birches. Birch trees. Birch trees. I love. I love birch trees. They are my favorite. White birch trees are my 100% my favorite tree ever. I have one. I'll take a picture one day. I used to have a few in back here in my woods, and they don't age well in this area. They die off or snap pretty easily. There's one I've been loving since I've been in this house, what, 10 years now? It's crooked. It's grown. I've tied it up. I love that tree. Yeah. So this is a really cool way to show birch. You know what else is cool on here, guys? And who's out there, like, oh, my God, the guy keeps going. I just want to log off, but you can log off anytime, guys. I'm glad you're staying. These. This is really cool. This is a art crayon. This I. This is really awesome on here. Becky said the birch trees, right? So what if we kind of just kind of shade in some of this. This. We were talking about butter. This glides on, like, butter. And this has a little twist point, which is cool. See that? I think I was given this, like, as a free sample somewhere. I would definitely buy one more. Buy more. What brands is this? I don't even know what brand it is, Mara. I think the brand is marabou art crayon. Marabou. This is fantastic on kraft paper. The one on the right has more character. The light brown also allows more precise movement of. Of the sketch has more depth and detail. Just my opinion. So the one on the right was this one, right? Yeah. Talk about this one. Yeah. So you like this paper better? Yeah, I think this paper shows off the markers more vibrant than this paper. I kind of wish the best of both worlds. I wish I could have this color paper with this texture. I really. I really like a little bit of texture. It adds a little bit of grit to my sketches. And I love grit on sketches. That kind of gritty, industrial, handmade, hand felt vibe. And that's a lot of the reasons I love these loose weight, these loosey, goosey, quick, fast, frenetic lines I do is for me, it has that handmade feel, that kind of industrial, let's do it kind of vibe, get it done kind of vibe. So, yeah, if I could combine these two somehow, it'd be the. The perfect world. Becky says birches are a soft wood. They have shorter lifespans than hardwoods like maple and oak. Yeah, you're right. And that makes me sad. Birch. Birch trees are. I love birch trees. Yeah, that just sounded weird. I love birch trees. I think they're just elegant and just so beautiful. You know what? You guys gave me two great ideas tonight. One is to winterize the Brooklyn Bridge. And two, let me. Let me step really out of my wheelhouse and upcoming sketches, and let's do some floral tree stuff. I really need to practice trees. Becky, you are awesome at trees. We need to do an inkling and get together on zoom. So. And I would love for you to do, like a refresher of your trees for me. So maybe my goal will be this year, landscape wise, is to. To learn how to do a white birch tree. All right, guys, it's almost 10 o'. Clock. I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart because it's not easy for me to come online and do these streams. You guys give me the courage, the motivation, and lift me up to want to come online and do these live streams. I mean, I love doing it, but it's not always easy. So thank you for allowing me the opportunity to spend some time with you to kind of ramble on, I guess. Let me wind back a little bit. We're getting a little real here. It's not easy for me to come online with these live streams because I honestly don't like to hear myself talk. And when I talk all the time, I feel like I'm talking about myself and I'm not good at that, and I don't like doing that. If you've ever met me in person and we've talked in a nice conversation, you'll notice, you might notice I am a question asker. I am really good at asking questions and listening deeply and learning about people, learning about who you are. I'd rather listen to you guys talk about yourselves than me talk about me and what I'm doing. So coming in. So streaming in a forum like this is really educational. It's helping. It helps me to build up courage, a little bit of confidence to be able to ramble, ramble on in front of people on a camera here. So I really do appreciate the opportunity that you give me to do that. So thank you. And even if you tune in for a minute or 30 seconds or you're watching in the background, it doesn't matter. Even if you're watching a replay, it doesn't matter to me, It's just a good opportunity. So I know again, I'm rambling, but thank you so much. It means a lot for me to be able to do this and I appreciate you all so much. Until we meet again. Sketch boldly, live creatively and inspire endlessly.
