Wednesday Night Sketch + Chill

A casual live sketching session led by Jason Nicholas focused on painting barns on brown craft paper. The host demonstrates a roughly three-stage multi-layer workflow (blocking shapes, adding color in multiple passes, then hatching and Sharpie/pencil detailing), explains a preferred color sequencing (orange → yellow → turquoise → reds), shows how certain media behave on craft paper (watercolor, graphite soluble sticks, Sharpies pop), answers chat comments, performs on-camera self-critique (what he likes and what he'd change), and plugs upcoming workshops and art supplies/discounts. Tone is informal, instructional, and playful, emphasizing experimentation over precision.

Hey have you on what's the October 15th had a look really a day I'm based with inspired life where I love sketching Archer designing tend to throw anything down on paper color ink it's fine therapeutic and yeah as well do it so do me a few minutes on this Wednesday night as I do some catching to my theme of the week which is barns I have a clean barn this kitchen workshop on 26th it'll be in via zoom they're leaning upper left also in the notes contacting you still something there I just love getting barns I try to add really fall colors to create full vibe with the barn tire but so good tired alright let's see Let me know where you're watching from Let me know how you doing some questions comments in the chat I'll be chatting in gonna shift a little bit here if you are watching insta you may want to switch to YouTube channel only because we can see at least the whole image of a sketching I have Instagram to cut some stuff off so I am live on YouTube also at the ink spiral so YouTube look the ink spiral K inspired life inspired life and you from here you know what that cool Stay right where you are. Even tag has baddies I still love him. Working on something. Should we do probably. Before I get bed. Let's bring out the color. I'm watercolor here. I rarely use brown watercolor so this is a red sheet. I'm just mixing up some blue and red here. Me. It's it. It's. Hey Grace. You also get to see you Yes I just saw moon of barn sketch tonight I love cat barns cool I like colors of happiness I think some yellow some. I like colors I like the way I'm looking a little busy here on this side it's okay I can go back for trays on I can think if I sharpie and back out some shadows there's some house lines here it'll pull it out a little bit give it some depth so obviously layers when I'm doing stuff usually I'll do usually maybe like three different layers or maybe sitting read my sit here and work on sketch probably three times the first time is for me is throwing down some inklings blocking out kind of basic shape this darker and then step two I'll dig into more color so for some reason I don't know why I seem to use the color almost the same order I'll dip into usually orange first and I'll use taki yellow then I kind of need some turquoise then I need some lighting yellow and then my scene up and I jump to jump to like red pen. So do vertical burn W boards on the side with a vertical red here. Now to do that colors. There's a pattern or system here. But it's a system that allows all these sketches to look different even when using the same process. You know 1, 2, 3. All rules are so different. That's actually kind of a cool thing. It's kind of. It's not. We're picking college cookies which is 90. I mean 95% the same ingredient over and over again getting the same results. But you. Except K is different. It's same ingredients but a different cookie. Yeah. And I'm talking about cookies. Hopefully make sense. Maybe this one is dumb. Now I need to die for do more stuff on it. Hey on Instagram. Send me a Instagram or YouTube or Facebook ask question comments. Let this dry. Put it to the side. Have sketches sketch for a while right here in front of me. I love this. This is called Soho. I'm a company Soho or an artist. This is craft paper. Craft paper is the brown papers have for that. But anyway love is craft paper because this brown. But this brown craft paper really makes colors pop. Especially the unsharp created markers pop really nicely in the so you guys can see the whole situation. I have some sketches here. From when you see the bridge happening. This is a time map marked in April. Check out how the colors especially the blue is popping. Colors popping. Sometimes I think different effects. It's really cool. Like I kind of love this. The way the orange looks in the craft paper. This is a scene in Brooklyn Liberia. Yeah. The Brooklyn Library Evil weight. I love this paper. There's cool sketching in. A couple of cool. Couple of cool lighthouses. Here's one cool one. I really like this lighthouse that's white. Awesome. Yes. I left with this. Fun cache in here. So it's not able to broken bridge brought this new all in time to Metar blue brisket. I don't know if I want to do sketch here. Sorry. Don't worry. Something touched the old surface. I like the color in that one. It's kind of cool. This is inspired seeing how zero colors there. But I love these colors. They just pop off this page. Let's do some sketching. I'm using my imagination. I don't care if it's nothing. Paint doesn't sketch something right now and that's weird. But when you're drawing and adding don't feel like you always need to be creating something Specific scroll, both foes or any ink. Just go wild. Scribble. Doesn't matter. Just creating that. For me, the part I love the most is actually just creating something from the grain. There's nothing on here. So I just did this. Done. I've added something. I've created something. Is it anything special? No. And that's okay with me. It doesn't need to be special. It needs just to be something. All right. The paper is really thin, by the way. It's not really good for watercoloring or adding ink onto it. No, honestly, I think I'm just gonna throw it in some lines. We'll see what happens. Not about sketching. My gosh. I have a bad one. It's not sketching anything special or particular. Just about sketching something. There was something there. Go back and buy it. Looks like Abigail has some great markers here. Honestly, I maybe we could color and grab one better here. Where are you hiding? My turquoise is hiding from me. Always trying to escape Turquoise martyr. What's up with that? This is so weird inside. Nope. All right. New interface for you. All right. I'm able to look at for that colors cry and go see what looks like that one. Up. Just take one of crowns or color castles ink. Oh, some colors happen now. What the heck? What the heck? I have a timer but arm it put time ROMs. Time just forces me to cut these quick. You can also do this for yourself. See? One, two, three seconds. One, two, three, four, five. Next. One, two, three, Four, five. Right. Three, five. Let's do 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Because it's my fave color. Pop colors right? Those are the grade represented. What's happening? I mean late empire steepling ish. Hello ish. And you should endward. I just love doing that. So shout out to the ish person. Where is chatgpt? I don't know anybody who's camp ish line. Oh, wait on here build for me. So I found my marker. Let's cut down some beat windows on this. This is kind of a fun staple experiment. I wasn't trying to create anything specific because when my friends fired I saw building saw building. Just inspired by the empire table. Yeah, that was so fun. When you sit down to scatter create something. Don't have an expectation other than just being playful. Don't expect creating specific to create something in your pattern. And if nothing happens, you just standing or of it. That's cool. You know why? Because you still need something. It's more of a night something. But check this white pops on that brown paper. Hey Paula. I get to see you on YouTube as well. Resident Cool how it white pops in this this practice paper. So this is what I'm using and it's just a fun paper for everything. C Sharpie Creative markers pops so nicely on this color. Titles also pop pretty nice. We'll just take markers. So. Yep. I am lanes. Let's grab some more purple. So far I wasn't really looking at colors. Now I'm just looking at painting specific one that I'm going to use now. I'd like to remember this of when we started this set. I just intensify or ink intensify some of this purple on here. So I'm going back over it. I want to punch some of this yellow some back over some of the yellow spots. These are all the colors we grew on this one. These are the colors here. So this is an example and just throwing it down and using it. Earlier and grab up. So move this. I actually want to about reading dates when I do things. 2025 and this is just. This is the random random meter here. Random cassette. Just joining. I would love to go back after. I'm going to process how that plan or not thinking or cycling the outcome can end up actually be something really really fun. So this was a cool exercise. Look at that barn. Looking this over questions or comments Because I know. Zoom in the burn a little bit off the side drawing. Draw here. I don't care doing it. It's glitching out as you can see close up. Throw down some sharp people. This was remember talking about layers or settings four usually do three layers or three sittings or this would be number two. Probably a little more. But I want to move forward. So next step I usually do be back with the hatch lines some status. It. Be careful there. There's bottles of colors to dry out on. It's not art. It's not art unless you have it. It's not art unless you wear it. So I wear a little bit of art. Some shadow in here and circling this in down so you can barely see sharp picture from the side there. You can just. Imagine hole in this roof. Yet where is the cap? Oh come on. Here pretty. There's some really cool insect on this as it drives. This is really cool the colors happening down here. Yeah I think I have browns for now. I really like the way this is drying. There are just transform and it's kind of radical. Look what's happening down here. There's colors happening there that I don't even know how they're happening and in person. This looks so cool. Oops. Shouldn't throw on camera. I love the colors happening here too. This is awesome. Let me move over. I love the colors happening. All right. Move a little bit. Here's the whole scene. So I was zone did one with two different layers on this snapdragon before I wrap it up and when I come back the last layer usually is it would be throwing to some color pencil. Bring down some more details with a Sharpie including maybe more shadows in places and maybe just punching up a few areas with some more watercolor or some more of the rose reflex rose on her love and the other reflex rose to pop a little bit more. Pretty cool. Did you sleep tonight? Did you have fun? Did you fall asleep? Because I left a lot of people. Yes. I think once we clean the ASR edition of the scanning would you by putting comments to put yes, ASR or no. I think it'd be fun. Just once a week. Sponge. I'm holding out. It's a staring competition. Almost not 15. Shout out to you. This is cool, guys. This week if you want to get bars in my brain and see how I get farms and follow the process in a little more slowed down detail. Yeah, this is cool. Let me take a nice. Not done yet. This is yesterday's. This tried really nicely. I like this. I like it because the shape is a little different. The Augie Heck yeah is protective. Perfect. Heck yeah times two. And I like it. And I don't bracken. This one's cool. They all have basic colors. They're also good friends. I love the sky in the background that fall. It's kind of cool. I also. Love. Here's what I do. I want to critique myself. I have two things. One is look at something I like about what happened and then I'll take this thing that I didn't like about happened. How I might change it next time we're into it. So let's do that with this. This is a really good experience. I hope some of my participants from school are listening or online because kicking is a really, really important part of the learning process. Especially in our classroom where we're doing design critics representing enjoying our ideas. I know it's not easy for everybody to present intro ideas in the kit. But we need to take feedback and try to do it in a positive way. But don't take it personally. People give you feedback. They might have shifted the same or it might not be truthful. Filter, listen. Filter it and that's it. Either use it Embrace it, learn from it and move forward. Don't follow it, don't let it tighten down. Critiquing. Yeah, don't let critiquing shut you down. Critiquing is a good feedback tool that we can learn from and be explained from designer. I love critique on designs, especially earlier. Earlier on I was always upset that people didn't like reading. I told them and I took part anymore because it's just. It just wasn't happening, you know. So kind of thing about critiquing this second T video short. So this one here I like. I actually really like this one to take off this guy away from now. And I like the yellows in the roof and I will use these yellows. I do hay. These would be great hay colors. So that's my positive thing about this. Now what I love. So here's what I actually don't like this one when I use graphics here. I don't like using graphic directly on the hair. It needs ghosting. I don't care if his face is tracking from the rest of the ink is When I use gravite sticks like this, my personal preference is to dip the graphite stick in water, let it get melty. And. There's another graph sediment. So this is water soluble. So I'm going to add water to it kind of dissolve or melts. So here what I did in this guy, I don't like. I don't want. I don't like this math. Putting the graph paint on. Because what happens is I'm gonna add water. So I'm just literally dipping my water. You see, I'm gonna add it on top a little bit. You can still see the boosting here where I scribbled originally. That's what you see where things burnt out. Not really. Like here's how I'd rather use this stuff. Just throw water on here. Some water going. Then I am dipping the grass in water and for a second look kind of get soft and melty. All right. And now we're going to Z. 6 no water observer multi. So I'm letting it stand long enough. But it does. Trust me, it does. You can see it. Plus testing it just in there. So the graphics. There has been more resolved in the model of how I like to critique my own work. Which one predict? This one. So cheating, right? To step three activity. Step one, find that leak about what happened here. Step two is going to be fine. Something I don't like to happen. Step three is come up with alternate plan for that. I didn't like so here's where I like the snake human. One thing sci favorite thing about this is the intensity of pink. The colors in azure I think are awesome. Really, really, really vibrant. So I love that Also I love about this one. Then all the loaf here. I love the inferno orange as old flax here. I really it looks cool in person. So I have these two things I don't like about this. Yeah. So here's what I don't like. I could come back here with marker sharp yet and just refine. I kind of lost this root edge here. So we love to pull that ref edge out a little bit more. Sincerity. I didn't like that. And that's always easy to fix. It was. Castle really colors on this one. Actually here's the thing. I don't like the gate on this. I don't like that gate left me. I don't have a fix for it yet. So some work. Something will happen and I'll change this. I my brain only works because I need this right here live. I would need some angles. I'm gonna go D red art. No, no, no. I'm using the same. All right. I'm just more fond by only somehow we turn the heart shape on here. I'll pull out. I just want to give a little softer touch. Is it better? Is it better? Is it perfect? Nope. That's okay. Looking for hot seasoning. Just a little bit. We have a great night. Thank you for watching YouTube on the Facebook and on the insta. Wish I speak talking but yeah. Hey Jessica Studio. So vibrant people. Hey. That is awesome. Thank you so much for seeing it. You mean my eyes. I appreciate that. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I love that. All right. We just found a wizardry castle. Let's draw some. Maybe this is a sleep roof. It's kind of slip stone up here. So this is the best way to talk in the past. Those are players. So this is sitting over do we're add 12 second layer session whatever you want to call it. Here's one. Collector as details. Looks like started sketch as stone. Do a little more. That looks better. Also in stage we're going to add we hatch more shadows. We have some on there. And the darkness windows. Let's pull now change this on sleep. For awesome music. Maddie's awesome playlist. Is awesome. Here. I need music. Oh gosh. All right. Write some shadows disappear Also I'm really scribbling this and half lines on there. Can squirrely tapping some stones. Maybe just to give a little bit character to Our castle. This is an idea for school. Can you just really quickly unlock my creative flow. Because like me you have you just like a lot of moods have them everywhere. I'm trying to have this really cool palette remarkable tablet and eating palette. I found videos before I've stepped on it so got me to channel I'm using E tablet I use that a lot for dopamine. But I still find scrap of paper and write it down. My ebook is actually my marble D back or sold tomorrow. This key is. You know what I just love some more negative on I just hear that part can pull out with the black. There we go now right. It's. It. I think at the bottom I'm really. Let's add some let's set some greenery on bottom. I just left because of the view over somewhere else clean my steer and I fun straw and I used to straw that I'll show you what woody straw for I had it here. I'm just going to do it. I'm going to blow this fate like that kind of you'll see more water. So I'd like to do that I call them grows is kind of like grasses or flowers or weeds kind of growing up on the building. Yeah now I get slower base on that. Score score. Did they count on them? Oh yeah almost. There's a pathway created going up. Yeah this is going to be cool actually if someone get the two tomorrow. Yes this is cool this it's not quite done yet but it looks. Like tomorrow. Cool. With me at it packing also give the plug to this is my didn't say this product this company I love love this stuff. I do have discount program without a few where is my discount code inkspired. You take floppy.com I love this. This is a really cool case floppy but it's a really cool case or bag pouch anyway because it has two dots and one side actually my markers in color. This one goes NYC just put my back spinning which likely just came out with a cool because the field swing I am super guy. I definitely get one of those definitely with me. You can see I'm just piling my bend in here and can't it wall in there and zip this up this whole other side which got more in there. Boom. There's Sharpies in there or there's more I don't just have this any record but yeah there you go. You can throw a lot in there. Really really cool things A picture this awesome color and I have guys this is a loppy quadra Quattro but I actually use it from color pencils. But I do that, which works in the bag. I'm going to dress some reflex rose. Yeah. At school. That's got it. I don't think I'm going to stick to what. Let's see. This is my lockpieak portfolio. I love, love, love this animate this city from all the time. But anyway, I love being penned right here in the front. I am being Disney pens these days. I love these pens actually here. Awesome. So I usually put like four different pens in here. I have multiplayer pen, which is I love also. Yeah, lots of stuff usually have these for colors, which is fantastic. Like this.
