How to Build a Google Review Handout That Boosts Body Shop Sales

In this AI Labs tutorial, Thomas Zoebelein explains how collision repair shops can increase sales and improve SEO by encouraging customers to write detailed, honest Google reviews. He identifies the problem that many customers experience writer’s block when asked to leave a review, and proposes a solution: an AI‑generated one‑page review handout that guides customers on what to say. The video walks through creating a prompt that first interviews the shop owner for key details (name, location, contact info, brand tone, services, typical compliments, things to avoid, format, colors, logo) and then uses those inputs to produce a polished handout. The handout includes a strong headline, thank‑you note, explanation of why detailed reviews help other drivers, 5‑7 specific review prompts, a fill‑in‑the‑blank starter, a natural sample review, a clear QR‑code call‑to‑action, and footer information, along with layout and design notes. Zoebelein demonstrates the process with a mock shop (Zoebelein Body Shop), shows the generated text and a sample AI‑designed flyer, and discusses how AI can replace a designer’s hours at minimal cost. He emphasizes ethical rules—no fake reviews, no pressure, no incentives, and natural language. The tutorial concludes that the handout is a low‑effort, high‑impact asset that can boost review volume, improve local search rankings, and ultimately increase shop revenue.

When I had my marketing agency, one of the things that we did as part of our service was to respond to and manage Google reviews for body shops. So I've seen tens of thousands, maybe even by this point hundreds of thousands of body shop reviews. And one of the things that became really clear, that it's not just about getting good review that matters. What really matters is what the review actually says. There's a reason for that. A review that says great job is nice, but a review that talks about the accident, the insurance process, the communication, the paint match, and how the car looked at pickup, that review helps sell to the next customer. It helps with Google, it helps with SEO, and it matters even more now with AI search. But here's the problem. Have you ever wanted to leave a review for a business, but you didn't really know what to say? So you just kind of bailed. I have. You get writer's block and then you think, well, I'll get back to it later and then just never do. Well, your customers have the same problem. So today we're going to fix that. We're going to build a quick AI prompt that creates a customer handout that your shop can give out at delivery. It'll ask for the review, but more importantly, it'll help the customer know what to say. So let's cue the logo. In this AI Labs episode, we're building a simple but powerful sales asset for your body shop. It's a Google review handout. Maybe you've got something like that now, but I'm going to help you tweak it a little bit to really help you sell some more work at your shop. This is something that you can print, text, or email, or hand to a customer when they pick up their vehicle. You even print them out and stick them in the vehicle. The goal is not to script fake reviews, it's not to pressure customers, and it's not to game the Google system. The goal is really just to help happy customers write honest, specific reviews that are actually useful to the next person searching for a rare repair shop and useful for your own marketing purposes. Because the best reviews are basically mini case studies. They explain what happened, what the customer was worried about, how your team helped, and what the final results looked like. By the end of this episode, We'll have a prompt that interviews you for your shop details, then creates a polished review handout customized to your shop. Here's the big lesson in this one. Don't just ask AI to make you a Google review handout. Make the AI interview you first. That way it gets your shop name, your services, your tone, what your customers usually compliment you for, and what you want to avoid. That's how you get something useful instead of another generic AI flyer. And with that, let's get started on this one. All right guys, most of my videos, they can be kind of long because they're really in-depth prompts. This one's actually going to be a pretty quick video, and the prompt is pretty straightforward, pretty simple, but it's probably something that you hadn't really ever thought to do. We can knock this thing out together here really fast. You can grab this prompt, print this off, give it to your front office staff, and they can make this document up, and then you can start using it. But I think the impact that to your shop is going to actually be pretty significant in proportion to the effort that it's going to take to get there. So here's the prompt. You're helping a collision repair shop create a polished one-page customer handout that helps customers write better Google reviews. The goal is not to script fake reviews or to pressure customers. The goal is to help happy customers write honest, specific, useful reviews that help other drivers understand why they should choose the shop. Before creating the handout, interview me first. Ask me the following shop details: my shop name, city and state, website, phone number, Google review or QR code destination. Brand tone, for example, friendly, premium, family-owned, luxury, hometown, direct, professional. These will all be things that the document will prompt your, your users to write. Main services to mention, for example, collision repair, paint repair, bumper repair, insurance claims, OEM repairs, ADAS calibrations. What customers usually compliment the shop, for example, communication, quality, speed, insurance, help clean vehicle at pickup, friendly staff. Any words, claims, services, or promises to avoid. Preferred format, for example, printable flyer, counter card, email, text message, or PDF. And then brand colors, logo notes, and design preferences. After I answer, create a polished one-page handout that includes a strong headline, a short thank you message, a simple explanation of why detailed reviews can help other drivers, a 5 to 7 review writing prompts customers can answer, fill-in-the-blank review starter, a natural sample review, clear call to action to scan a QR code to search on your shop on Google. I'm going to show you how to do that too. And a footer with the shop name, website, phone number, and city-state. Simple design notes for layout, colors, spacing, and QR code placement. Under this review writing structure: what happened to your vehicle? What were you worried about before choosing the shop? How did the shop help you with the repair process? Did the shop communicate clearly to help you with insurance? How did the vehicle look when you picked it up? Would you recommend the shop to somebody else and why? Now, I know they're getting this survey, these survey questions, especially if you're a DRP shop, but this will get them thinking about those responses in the context of a Google review instead of just, you know, car looked great, you know, which I've seen that a ton of times. Important rules: keep the handout friendly, clear, and easy to skim. Do not ask customers to write only positive reviews. Do not imply they should say anything untrue. Do not offer incentives. Do not make the sample reviews sound fake, scripted, or overpolished. Keep the language natural and customer-friendly. Make the handout feel like it came from a real collision repair shop and keep it to one page. So I'm going to go— just go ahead and tell it to, um, run this prompt and we'll just go through the steps together here. Okay, so shop name Zobe Body Shop. It is in Bel Air, Maryland. 555-555-5555. So it's asking for my Google review link. So I actually have a fake body shop. I'll show you how to grab that. So here's my fake body shop, Acme Autobody. So just click that and then share. Grab this link, and that's what we're going to put in the prompt here. Boom. That way it will send the Google My Business so people can leave reviews. Very simple. If you didn't catch that, just, you know, watch, you know, go back and rewind the video there. Um, Google review link, brand tone, so friendly, family-owned. Local, um, main services to mention: collision repair, auto body painting, uh, ADAS calibration, um What customers compliment the shop for? Communication, quality. You don't even have to structure this data, it knows what to do here. Um, friendly staff, avoid Um, I don't know, I don't really have anything to avoid. I'm gonna skip that. Preferred format, uh, printable flyer, 6x9, 6-inch by 9-inch postcard. That's my favorite size for postcard is a 6x9. It's a nice chunky size but not too big and easy to print. Brand colors and our logo. All right, let's send off that, see what we get. And here's the result. So this will fit on our— this is what we're going to print out. So, had a great experience? Help another driver choose with confidence. Thank you for trusting Zoebelein Body Shop. We know Collision repair can be stressful, whether your vehicle needed bodywork, paint repair, or ADAS calibration. Our goal is to keep you informed, treat you like family, and return your vehicle with the quality that you expected. If you feel we earned it, we'd be grateful if you shared your honest experience with a Google review. Why the detailed reviews matter: Your review helps other local drivers in Bel Air know exactly what to expect when they need a body shop. A few specific details can make your review more helpful than a simple simple star rating. You do not need to write anything fancy, just tell the truth about your experience. Not sure what to write? Here are a few ideas: You can mention what happened to your vehicle. What were you worried about before choosing a repair shop? How did Zoebelein Body Shop help with the repair process? Did we communicate clearly? How did your vehicle look when you picked it up? Did our staff make you feel comfortable? Would you recommend us to another driver and why? So here's a review starter: I brought my vehicle to Zoebelein's Body Shop after blank. I was worried about blank, but the team helped by blank. They kept me updated about blank, and when I picked up my vehicle blank, I would recommend Zoebelein's Body Shop because blank. So that's an example review. I brought my car to Zoebelein's Body Shop after a collision. I was nervous about how the repair would turn out. The team was friendly, explained the process, and kept me updated along the way. When I picked up my car, the bodywork and paint looked great. Recommend them to anyone in the Bel Air area who wants a local shop that communicates well and takes pride in the quality of their work. See what a fantastic review that is, right? If you read that as a customer, you know, this would really help you make a decision, I believe. Ready to leave your review? Scan the QR code below or visit Google and search. And then here's the QR code, so you would just go to any one of those online QR code generators and just swap that, that URL for that. Here's the information here. And then here's some notes to hand off to a designer or a print shop. Use a clean, friendly local shop layout with generous spacing. Keep the headline large and bold at the top. You could even get AI to design this if you wanted, um, using any number of— like, Gemini does decent graphics. There's all kind of a million of these, uh, image generating things that you can use. But use red tones from the logo. You could even probably copy this whole prompt and stick it in here. Um, here, let's, let's try that. Design the flyer based on this instruction. Just out of curiosity, let's see what it does. Might take a minute. Oh, the world we live in today with AI. In my marketing agency, I would probably charge you a couple hundred dollars to do this thing, to lay this out, and it would have taken, you know, probably half a day, maybe more, with revisions and all that stuff. So if you wonder why I sold the marketing agency, AI has a big thing— big— is a big part of it. Here we go, created a, uh, a flyer for us to hand out, have printed and hand out. So the body shop didn't even have a logo, it made me a logo, it made me a body shop. I mean, look at that, it looks fantastic. See, that would have taken a designer 4 hours, maybe a full day to, to design something nice for you. So that's just one format. There's a million ways you could do it. You could just do a big graphic here, put that format on the back, you know, the, the paragraph. That's probably what I would do personally, um, you know, I would say make this two-sided put the instruction on the back and clean up the COVID But I like the direction. There we go. So now I cleaned up the front here. Had a great experience. Help another driver choose with confidence. Thank you for trusting Soap's Body Shop. And it's probably going to do my back here in just a second with my copy. But look how fantastic that looks. You could even copy this image and just tell AI to make this for your shop and just hand it— attach your photo of your shop. You know, you could just go here, take a picture of your shop and to say, use this cover, swap out the logo and the body shop for my body shop, and it would probably generate this exact same thing if you like the way this looks. Obviously you want to change the town and all that. Here we go, here's page 2. Look at that. Look how great that is. How to write a helpful review. Thank you for trusting Soap's Body Shop. Not sure what to say. Example review. Review starter. I mean, look at that. Look at the fantastic handout to give to your customers. Guarantee you that this will help with sales, and I guarantee you this will help with your search engine ranking. So guys, that's it for me for today on this AI Labs. Uh, that was a quick one, I know, but I think it's going to have a lot of impact on your business. Easy to build, but I bet you never thought to do that before. So, you know, just another leave behind in the vehicle when customer comes to pick up the vehicle. And I guarantee you it's going to prompt people to write more reviews. You'll probably see an uptick in reviews and hopefully you'll see an uptick in sales. So you got everything you need. No excuses. Let's see you get to work on it and I'll catch you on the next AI Labs. See you later.
