Episode 54: Don’t Let Fear Guide Your Choices: "Entrepreneurship, Risk, and the Fear Formula"
24 Sept 2025 · 13 min
In this episode of The Trigger and the Truth, host Tina White explores how fear infiltrates personal and professional decision‑making, especially for entrepreneurs and anyone dealing with money anxiety. She argues that fear masquerades as logic, responsibility, or divine guidance, but ultimately acts as a thief that steals dreams, energy, and financial growth. Drawing on personal anecdotes, a National Science Foundation statistic (85 % of worries never happen) and an American Psychological Association report linking financial anxiety to depression, she deconstructs common fear‑driven scenarios—staying in draining jobs, avoiding price increases, postponing business launches, and seeking external validation. White offers a “fear formula” that reframes fear as a signal to act rather than a command to retreat, urging listeners to replace fear‑based decisions with faith, clarity, and truth. She also promotes her practical resource, The Contract Code, a roadmap for small businesses to navigate government procurement without overwhelm, and reminds listeners of the show’s call‑in hotline and mental‑health resource network. The episode ends with a call to reclaim personal power, trust one’s own voice (and God’s), and use fear as a catalyst for action rather than a governing force.

Welcome back to The Trigger and the Truth. I'm your host Tina White, and today we're discussing a topic most people can relate to, and that's fear. Whether real or imagined, it has a way of getting in everybody's way Fear will have you living a life that doesn't even feel like it's yours. It will have you second-guessing everything, missing blessings, and shrinking in rooms you were born to take up space in. It'll have you playing small for people who don't even clap when you win. So many of us are operating out of fear and calling it being realistic. We're scared to leave the job that's draining us. Scared to start the business that's been tugging at our spirit for years. Scared to leave that relationship that's more painful than peaceful. But let me say this: fear is not God's plan for your life. Confusion, paralysis, self-doubt— that's not divine direction. That's trauma talking. That's unhealed voices in your head that you've mistaken for wisdom. And I get it because I've been there. Fear is a thief. It steals dreams, silences potential, and paralyzes progress. In this episode, I'll break down how fear infiltrates our decisions, especially when it comes to money, business, and personal evolution, and how we can take our power back. Whether it's fear of failure, fear of judgment, or fear of starting over, you'll learn how to stop letting fear guide your choices and start living by faith, clarity, and truth. You ever feel like your destiny is calling but your fear keeps hitting decline? I know that feeling, that moment when something inside you says go, start the business, end the relationship, leave the job. Launch the idea, but fear grips you so tightly, you start rationalizing your own stagnation. So you shrink, you delay, you distract yourself, you convince yourself it's not the right time, that you're not ready, that maybe next season. But let me ask you this: how many seasons have passed while you waited for the perfect moment? Let Let's talk about it. Today's episode is Don't Let Fear Guide Your Choices. Because the truth is, fear has guided many of us far longer than we want to admit. And it shows up quietly, masked as logic, wrapped in obligation, often even endorsed by the people closest to us. But here's what I've learned. Fear is not a strategy. And it's not always panic. Sometimes it could be as simple as—
To tell the truth. Let's unpack a heavy bag that's been bursting at the seams. We owe it to ourselves to hold ourselves accountable, owning our part in the breakdown of a relationship. One of us might be a narcissist, or maybe both of us. Are you willing to tell the truth about your role? Did you burn sage only to pass out from the fumes? Are you perhaps the root cause of the problem? I'll go first. If I'm being honest, I can be problematic when my buttons are pushed or when I feel my boundaries have been crossed. God is still working on me, and that's why we're here. I'm taking this journey with you because I need healing just as much as anyone else. I've had to confront my own tendencies. I've realized that in conflict, I almost always become an avoidant. I shut down, walk away, and don't look back. That's not healthy. So here's the question: can you face yourself and admit to your part? The first step toward healing is honesty.
Shows up quietly, masked as logic, wrapped in obligation, often even endorsed by the people closest to us. But here's what I've learned. Fear is not a strategy, and it's not always panic. Sometimes it could be as simple as planning your life around playing it safe. Let's dismantle this. Fear doesn't always announce itself as anxiety or dread. Sometimes it looks like staying at that job where your soul is dying, but the benefits are decent. Maintaining friendships that drain you because you've known them forever, or not going off to college because your siblings will be left to fend for themselves, not launching that dream project because you don't know where to start, that's fear dressed in logic. That's fear wearing a name tag that says responsible when really it's restrictive. Here's some real data. According to a study by the National Science Foundation, 85% of what we worry about never even happens. And of the remaining 15%, most people found they could handle the outcome better than expected. Fear doesn't always scream. Sometimes it whispers. It whispers, "What if you fail?" "What will they think?" "You're not ready yet." "That's not for people like you." And we listen. Oftentimes we listen. Fear convinces us that the familiar hell is safer than an unfamiliar heaven. It shows up dressed as logic, but it's just an old wound trying to protect itself. So fear is mostly a liar, but we still let it drive. Now let's talk business. That's a big part of the reason why I'm here. As an entrepreneur, I've had seasons where I let fear talk me out of everything— launching, scaling, hiring, even posting on social media. I used to let the fear of what if it doesn't work outweigh the reality of what if it changes everything. That fear doesn't just affect your income, it affects your energy. You start shrinking your goals to fit your comfort zone, and we all know there's no money in your comfort zone, just like there's no money in your feelings. So get out of them. You start negotiating with your dreams, offering them excuses instead of execution. Entrepreneurship is one of the biggest mirrors you'll ever stand in front of. It reflects all your unhealed wounds, your money beliefs, your worthiness issues, your need for validation, all of it. Starting something of your own means facing uncertainty, and fear feeds on uncertainty like it's oxygen. But listen, uncertainty is the birthplace of possibility.

And now, You got a direct line to share it. Call today, 715-702-8845. If you let fear be your project manager, your creative director, your CFO, your therapist, you will build something that looks successful on the outside but is hollow inside. And listen, business is inherently risky. But you know what's riskier? Letting your fear rob your future. Because while you're playing it safe, someone else with less talent but more courage is making moves, closing deals, and living the life you keep talking yourself out of. Ask yourself, are you building a business from your brilliance or from your brokenness? September is about money and mental health. And fear shows up here loud and clear when you don't raise your prices because you're afraid people will leave, when you stay in toxic jobs because the money is good and you got bills, when you don't ask for help because you fear looking weak or incapable, when you need to get everyone else's opinion about something that God put in your hands. But here's the truth: Fear-based decisions often cost more than the risk ever would have. Here's a real example: a recent report by the American Psychological Association found that financial anxiety is directly linked to higher rates of depression and insomnia, and much of that anxiety rooted in avoidance—fear of opening bills, checking balances, or having real conversations about money. There comes a point where fear isn't just an emotion, it becomes your operating system. You start building a life around avoidance, avoiding conflict, avoiding change, avoiding your calling. And over time, you become resentful of others, of yourself, because deep down you know you're capable of more, but you've outsourced your power to fear. I've watched people stay in relationships that destroyed their peace because they were afraid to be alone. I've seen folks stay in jobs where they were undervalued and underpaid because fear told them they wouldn't find better. And they justify it. They convince themselves this is just how it is, but it's not. And let me say this clearly: you were not created to live a life you constantly need to escape from Your dreams deserve a chance, and you deserve to live free. Now let me talk to the person who's constantly asking everybody else what they should do. That man or woman who can't make a move without—

Bills, checking balances, or having real conversations about money. That man or woman who can't make a move without polling the room. Let me help you. Stop crowdsourcing your calling. Stop asking people who don't carry the weight of your consequences to steer your ship. How could you possibly rationalize allowing someone who isn't going to have to live with the outcome to dictate your next move? Listen, I'm not saying don't seek wise counsel. I'm saying trust yourself first, and God above everyone. Because if you get quiet enough, he'll tell you exactly what to do, and he'll be by your side when you do it. Most of the time, the fear you feel, it's not even yours. It's projected. It's inherited. It's conditioned. So I say this with love. Take your power back. The only voice that matters when it comes to your life is yours and God's. Let me be clear, this is not a toxic positivity sermon. I'm not telling you to pretend fear doesn't exist. I'm telling you to acknowledge it, then move anyway. Start the thing scared. Say no, even if your voice shakes. Build the bridge before you know how long the river is. Action breeds clarity. Stillness and fear breeds stagnation. You are not here to survive your own life. You are here to build, grow, heal, create, and experience all that this life has for you. So if you're listening to this, take it as your sign. Don't let fear guide another decision. Don't give fear another vote in your vision. Don't let fear narrate the story of your life. Don't let fear be the reason you live a life that feels like a shadow of what it could be. Don't let other people's doubt become your default. Don't let your dreams become the collateral damage of your indecision. You were born with the power to shift the trajectory, but the choice, that's yours. So the next time fear tries to hold the pen, snatch it back. And write your own story. You're the author now. Remember, confusion, fear, and avoidance are not the final chapter. Clarity, truth, and courage are just one decision away. This is The Trigger and the Truth. I'm Tina White. Until next time, be well, be honest, and don't let fear drive.
