How to Use Dynamic Elements in ClickFunnels 2.0

Tyson, Devin, and Rob show how to use dynamic elements in ClickFunnels 2.0 to automatically pull data from elsewhere in the platform instead of entering it manually. They walk through setting up product storefronts with collection elements, building course homes with lesson-specific content, and using merge tags in emails for personalization. The key idea: design once, pull everywhere.

Hello, happy Tuesday, guys. Welcome, welcome, welcome. Another round of Coaching Corner.
We got everybody here today.
Yeah, we got the full tribe Tuesday. Look at this, everyone's back, everyone's back. We're all here to hang out, and, um, today I feel like I shouldn't even say anymore. I feel like I'm, I'm beating it. Dry. It's gonna be a fun one. It's gonna be— it's gonna be a fun episode because this is something that is going to help you immensely. Uh, should we use it?
Should we use a different word? Should we say it's going to be whimsical? Would that— would that help?
It's gonna be a joyous occasion, uh, today.
I think it's gonna be educational.
Educational. Yeah, education can be fun too, though. So great.
I love to learn. It's fun. Yeah.
That's why we work in this field. We continue to learn. We're forced to learn because you got to learn. Things change so fast. But this thing is going to be part of your foundation moving forward. We're talking about dynamic elements today. And that's— I feel like, I don't know, it can mean different things to different people. So we just kind of want to clear it up, what that actually means in the platform, how you can use that to your advantage. And Yeah, fun stuff. Anything crazy to add to that, guys, or should we just jump in?
I think we should just jump in. I think with dynamic elements as a whole, it's one of those things that you kind of have to see it to like know what's going on.
So fair enough.
Maybe, and you might do this, Tyson, in a minute, but let's explain to the folks what dynamic elements are, what that actually means.
Oh, wouldn't you know it, I got that covered.
All right.
It's like I knew. It's like I knew what you were gonna—
Perfect segue. Perfect segue.
just dive in. All right, let me zoom in a little bit here. What, uh, dynamics really are, or what we're going to really cover today, is how you can set up dynamic elements inside of ClickFunnels 2.0 for your blogs, your products, for your courses, and how they all kind of like interconnect within one another. There's a— yeah, there's a bunch within that under the hood, but we'll dive in, we'll walk through it. Really, to answer your question, Rob, what dynamic content means Uh, it means that the, uh, content is information that gets pulled in automatically from somewhere else in a platform instead of being typed in manually, right? So instead of going to your, your storefront page and typing in every product name, every product's description, uploading individual product images, all you have to do is create the product inside of the platform, for example, and use these dynamic dynamic elements in the storefront to pull in the information you've already created, such as the name, such as the description of the product, such as all the product images that you've added and already created. Uh, it just, it takes a nice little shortcut or detour. Well, not detour, I guess shortcut for your, your side of things. Yeah, like when it comes to pulling things together. Um, yeah, you create it once inside the platform and we kind of just use that to your advantage, pull it in depending on what it is. Could be a blog, Could be storefront, like I kind of already alluded to. It could be your courses, and they all have different, different roles they can play.
Could be a first name of your customer, could be a first name of your contact, could be a price.
That's true. That is very true.
I'm curious, for the people that are here, uh, are using dynamic content, let us know in the chat. Um, love to see how you're using it.
We kind of— we had a breakdown episode of this was it workspace attributes? Uh, that was a little while ago where you could pull in different attributes anywhere in the platform, anywhere like within funnels or emails, uh, and update it in one spot, have it in many spots. That makes sense.
That's one of my favorite new features. It's workspace attributes. Was— it's been, uh, it's been a long time coming, but once we released it, everyone was losing their mind over it. It is so good. If you haven't watched that episode of Coaching Corner, I highly suggest You go watch that episode. You'll see the hours.
Because I, I feel like workspace attributes takes what dynamic content can do to like level 100, because it's just like, okay, you can create basically dynamic content to populate anywhere.
Yeah, it's custom.
Yeah, crazy.
Exactly. We're gonna reel back in here real quick just to walk through the step-by-step. All right. Most of the stuff that we're gonna be doing today as far as like walkthroughs and demos are gonna take place inside of the site and blog app inside the platform. Whoa, what the— I'm sorry, I wasn't expecting that view.
Uh, uh, I think that was me. Sorry, I'm trying to make the screen a little bigger. It's like hard to read a little bit.
Oh, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. You know what I can do?
I'm gonna zoom in just for me.
I guess that's me as well.
Your head got really big for a second.
I know, I just blew up. Is that easier?
That is a little easier.
Yeah, that's easier to read. All right, so we will mainly be working inside of the Site and Blog app. If you don't already have this, just go to Add Apps over here and you're looking at just this guy right here. Um, that is it. Once this is added, we want to head to Overview from that dropdown. So go ahead and click on Site and Blog, click on Overview, and on the right-hand side we're going to go ahead and click on Edit Site. Nice little yellow button we see here. When you do so, it's going to pull us directly into the editor for our theme pages. There are, I would say, 3 main core areas that we're going to focus on when it comes to this dynamic content. Site— or sorry, the storefronts, right? There's a couple different pages that fall under the storefront. There is blog pages, blog home, all the way to blog categories. Right? And then we have course and all the other dynamic pages we have for courses. All these are using this to their advantage right now at this moment in time. It's something that's actually pulled in for you without you having to think about it too much. Whenever you install a new theme inside the platform, this is— you will already have these pages in place. If we go to the storefront, for example, right, there'll be somewhat of a layout already in place that you can take and use to your advantage. Right? Um, the dynamic elements that we're going to be paying attention to are going to be these guys right here. They all live within a collection element. It's going to be represented by like the magenta border here. Magenta, pink, hot pink. How would you guys call it?
Magenta?
Yeah, magenta. I stole that from Devin. I'm not going to take credit for that. Devin called it magenta earlier and I was like, that's better than hot pink. I always describe it as hot pink.
Appreciate the credit.
I gotta give it ours too. Okay, so collections are unique animals in the sense that whenever you add one thing or make an adjustment to anything inside of them, all of the elements inside of them adjust at the same time. For example, by default, just 'cause this is already created, if I go and update this image here, actually I'm gonna do it for text. If I go and update the text here and maybe make this, red. You can see it adjusts for all the other elements or all the other products that would potentially show here inside of this collection. We can adjust how many show, we can adjust how many pull in, whatever you can, you can fully curate that. But when you make an adjustment, one does everything.
Does this, does this mean I have this many products on the page?
No, no. See, these are placeholders. Great question. Placeholders just allow you to go and make edits quickly without realizing what's, uh, I don't know, without weighing you down too much. It gives you a nice view or presentation of what it will actually end up looking like once we have the products in place. For example, if I go and actually preview this page, I do have some products. I don't know, they're not edited or anything. This is a test space, but we'll see what actually pulls in here. Guided Meditation Series. Oh, there we go. Look at that. All these are pulling in from my products I have inside of ClickFunnels that are set up to show in the storefront. Um, but it doesn't show exactly like what we have inside the editor. Obviously I could go and update those and refine them.
They're just— One thing I would say too, just to kind of add to that real quick, is like a lot of times if I'm working somewhere where I know there's going to be a lot of dynamic content, I might have a preview page open to the side of like where I'm working so that If I need to see it real time, you can kind of refresh as you save and it should populate, just to make it a little less confusing too. Because, you know, sometimes when you're looking at that, you're like, what in the world is actually going on here as far as like images, the names, all that stuff? And that really gives you a clear picture.
Agreed. Yeah, because otherwise you're just staring at this stuff, you're not really understanding exactly what's happening. All you have to know is that as you look at this, These guys will not look like this on the other side. This is just placeholder. So when it says products.name, it's really just going to pull in your product's actual name.
Unless the question product is named product.name.
Yeah, there we go. All right.
Yeah, you can't change that element there, right? Like, you can only add—
when—
if you go to the options in, um, in the selection area What do you mean? In the collection area, if you wanted to add, let's say, not the product name but, um, a title, like a product description, let's say. Right now we don't have description here.
Yeah.
Oh, we do actually. We do actually right here. But if you want to add anything new, you can. Yeah, go ahead. As you add elements, go ahead.
And this is where we would do it, right? If you add the element and you see all these options here that would pull from the product, uh, that would be displayed for all the products in this collection. So this one we don't have a link. So if we wanted to add a product link, then we can do that here.
Bada bing, bada boom. Yeah, exactly. Uh, and again, once you add it to one, add this to all. This is just going to be— it's to create a nice, I don't know, um, continuous flow.
It's all in unison here.
Yeah, there we go.
Just to give you that.
Yeah. Now if you don't see this and you're not starting off with this view, we can add one. We can start by just going and adding a new row. From there, I'll just do a one column as an example. And if we look at the top here, it's actually showing you commonly used elements that we probably would like to pay attention to. But if you don't see those, technically you still type in collection, collection, and you can see the different types that are available to you. You have product collections, you have collections collections. That's great.
crazy.
Uh, we have commonly used at the top, or just regular collections for blog posts and other stuff, right?
Mm-hmm.
I go off of what is commonly used for that page type when you're building. Just makes it easier. Um, you just go over here to products. This would be the one that we're looking at just to replicate. And from there you can design how you want that actual space to look. You can technically put this as a 2-column row For each individual one. That looks crazy right now, but watch, you can kind of populate things as we want. I'm going to add the image over here. There we go. Product name and product image, right? Looks crazy, I know, but you can design however you want. Um, you can delete this, delete a column, put it all in one. Bada bing, bada boom. If you want to add more, just add elements like you normally would. And then you'll see all the, all the different types of dynamic elements that you can use right here under product. It'll already put that at the top for you to follow. That's it. Cool. I think I covered that.
This is great because, I mean, I'm having fun. I don't know if everyone else is having fun, but this is educational. So many times I've been on calls with people and they're like, I don't understand how this is being populated. And they see these like scary looking symbols on this page and they don't really know what what it means or what they— what it does. So hopefully this is adding some clarity to what these, you know, what these symbols are doing and, and what is actually happening on this page. And like we were saying before, just because you see 12 different products here doesn't mean you have 12 different products. It's just placeholder.
Yep, you got— you can adjust as well if you want to determine how much actually shows. So if you hover to the magenta border there, the dotted line one that you see, From there, click on Settings. You can then decide, do you want 3 items per row? Do you want 2? Do you want only, I don't know, 6 products to actually show? You can decide all of that.
What I love is when people are setting up stores, they use that Filter by Collection. And if you click on that and you have different collections of products like, uh, new products or on-sale products, you can have that on Your, you know, on your home page, and it would just show the collection of those specific products.
Yeah, agreed. Now, how do you actually determine whether a product shows here or not? Or, well, yeah, how do you make it so products actually show here, right? That's probably going to be the next question you people— that people will ask here, right? If we click on the back arrow on the top left, from there we can go to Products in the very top left of your of your ClickFunnels dashboard there. And from here, click on All Products. At this point, just go to one of the products that you want to actually display, click on it directly, and we should see an option over here to show for your online store and/or your customer center. Just turn them on, or turn specifically the online store is what we're talking about here in this case. If I toggle this on, it would end up showing on or within that collection element, it would show on the storefront. That's it. As soon as you do that, it is now live. If you wanted to create a collection, a new collection, like just a new category that you want to have people be able to filter through and dive in further, you can go to collections over here on the left-hand side. And then from there, click on create collection. Give us a name. Maybe we'll call this, I don't know, Holiday.
Ooh, the Labor Day collection.
Oh, there you go. Yeah, let's give it a relevant— it's coming up.
Labor Day collection. I like that. All right, you can give it a description and you can also create an image. All right, from there I'll go and I'll show this collection on the online store. Create collection. And, and on the next page you can go in and manually sort the products that are added to it. You can, if you want to, add products here, or we can make it automatic so products are just automatically pulled in. Totally up to you. Like, I usually go manual so you can decide what actually falls into what category, but just add products and you can choose all the ones that fit this bill. I would like a pen and guided meditation. Those go together.
Are you gonna sell me a pen right now, Tyson?
If I— oh, you know what, I saw the best video for that the other day where it was, it was someone from a bank. I think it was from Chase Bank. It represented from Chase. He was selling it based off of the ink that they use in the pen. It can never be taken off, you can never forge it, and underwater it will never go away. Their pen is the best pen. Where your signature can't be forged. All right.
I don't buy it.
Okay, well, you know what, I don't know if it's true. I just remember the pitch. I was like, ah, that makes sense. Um, anyways, we have a collection now. We have it created, we have products added to it. And if we wanted to, we can go back to Site and Blog, go to Overview, and then we can go to Edit Site. And now we're back in the editor, right? We'll go to Storefront now and You can technically go and add a collection element. Oh, I didn't click on it. Time. There we go. Let me add this real quick. Boom. Actually, I can filter up here at the top by product collection for this specific collection element we already have. Go to the settings for this, turn on the option to filter by collection, and now we have the option for Labor Day collection. That's it. Now only those products will display. Save, preview. Boom, just those 2 products, just as we did.
That looks so much cleaner too than just all of them displaying at once.
Yeah, yeah, I like categorizing them for like hot new products or on-sale products so you can have, you know, your landing page with just that new collection that's ready to go for the, you know, the holiday season or whatever season you're in.
But maybe a total of 3 clicks to get that set up. I mean, it didn't take very long for me to put that together. Um, now there's other pages in here that have their own unique dynamic elements, such as like the product page, right? Each one, this, as far as what I'm describing, will apply. Uh, if you go and add a new element to a different page, such as the products page or the carts, or actually you can't add elements to the cart But it'll, it'll only show or give you an option to add the correct elements for that page type. So I won't let you only add those. It just, it's going to recommend the correct elements you want to use. Uh, cart icon, add to cart, product carousel, checkout, right? We're on a product page. That makes sense. You can check out and buy the product. Go ahead. What you got on top of that, Rob? Add on to it, man.
Go ahead. Like reading into it. I just wanted to clarify for some people because they saw the storefront And they saw that that little section was where the products were going to display. And now we're on the actual product page. This is like a zoomed-in view of that product, right? So some people might be confused of, okay, so what am I looking at now? So I just wanted to explain that this is— this page is what all your product pages will look like. It'll pull in the product name, the display price, the image, the descriptions, everything that you put here. So just like we did it on the home page in that tiny little collection that was a grid layout. This is the actual page, so you don't have to build a product page per product. You do it once, you do it once, and every product will look like this. This is how all the, the e-commerce websites work. If you go to— I don't know, um, what's a good one? What's a good website?
I'm thinking— I'm just kidding. No, uh, Shopify is what you're saying. I hear you.
Well, I was, I was thinking of like a just a store you go shopping on. I don't know, some things.
Amazon.
I mean, maybe Amazon's kind of a little overwhelming, but I think the biggest thing to— I think the thing to remember is like, as we're going down the, the bend here, I always think of these as like a web, right? So we start off on like the storefront itself, then we're moving down to the product, uh, to like the product page itself, you know, collections, all that stuff. It's like, as you continue to click through You're just kind of going down the web, if you will, um, of like each layer that you have in place.
A little live demo there. Boom. Yeah, so if I go back, click on a different one, same thing, same layout, same everything. There's no payment gateway here, but if there was, you could check out.
But it's so nice that you get— you just have to design it once. You design it once and you're done. Any product you add afterwards We'll get the same layout, right? You just have to do it once and you're good to go. If you want to change it, just change it once.
That's all you got to do. Simple. That's, that is the goal.
It's understanding that concept of like, you just got to do it once with these dynamic elements and it pulls the data in from whatever page the customer is seeing. That's the whole idea we, we want you to just like internalize from this episode.
Yep. Do the work once. Um, the other pages are relatively the same. I mean, you'll see the exact same things. You add collection elements, you add things inside of them. That is it. Um, they will by default already have something like that. Go to checkout here, you'll see the layout kind of already exists. It's already in place.
Uh, can we show them course? Because course has one— it's got a couple nuances to it with the predetermined dynamic elements.
These guys right here.
These guys right here. And then even within the lesson page.
Lesson page. Yeah, for sure. So you're basically just creating the different layers of your courses. We have the course home, the module lessons, and the lesson page. Course home is what people see as soon as they click into your course for the first time, when they access the course from initially logging in, per se. Right? This is what they'll end up seeing. They'll see then dynamic paths. You likely want to create dynamic paths to the different modules, right? And that's what we're showing here on the first page where they can get started. But you can definitely design this even further. I've seen people have like stand-in videos or whatever for their courses that they just want everyone to watch no matter what. You can technically still add those regular elements as well if you wanted to.
Yeah, the other thing I've done with courses too, we don't have to like go deep into this, but Um, like you can also customize if you want like a different course home per course, uh, based on like a different theme page. I've done that because sometimes that's useful as well. There's pretty good customization within courses as far as like dynamic content and then swapping out pages and stuff if needed to.
Yeah, yeah, I think we should totally do an episode on that. I've, I've spoken to some coaching clients who are running courses, and they're— they all want to customize the course home and customize the experience. So that'd be great if we did something like that. Let us know in the comments if you want to see how to customize your course home, and, uh, if, if you want to see that episode.
We're here for you. That's, that's a fun one. Yeah.
Okay, that would be extremely—
Uh, we just have to remember it so next time we're in a meeting we're not just like, what, what was the other Idea we had.
No, I feel like that'd be the next segue. But as far as like how they operate, it's gonna be the same as what we showed in the store storefront, right? Like the navigation right here is a dynamic element. It'll pull in the correct modules, the correct lessons that kind of come into play here. The only thing that you're really going to be doing as far as updates go is just design. Like for the individual elements themselves, you are just going into the design it further. That is the only thing that you want to probably focus on. You can change up the colors, you can change up the background colors, change the font size, whatever you want, make it your own. But you don't have to— there's nothing you have to go in and update manually. Um, if I go and add an element here to this existing collection of Where Do You Have a Place, you'll see that it's going to recommend other dynamic elements specifically for the page that we're on. Right now we're looking at a module collection. And if we were to add any of these, again, it'll add it to all of them. The typical collections you'll play with or see in courses, just involved with courses, are gonna be the modules and the lessons, lesson collections, right? So if I go and add a new element here, just for giggles, I'll do a new row at the bottom, new elements, and I'll type in collection, right? We'll see different types of collections here, and the one we're probably going to go with is going to be— well, if we want to replicate what we have above, something regarding courses, course lessons, or the course modules. I'm gonna go with course lessons just to show that as an example. But add a row, I do one column typically. Then you'll see the correct elements that want to— that you would want to use inside of that collection. Lesson title, description, image, link. Boom. This idea is the same across the board for all these guys. Add a collection relevant to the information you're trying to show. If it's a blog post that you're trying to show, have a blog collection. If it's a product that you're trying to show, you want a product collection. If it's a course, uh, you can do either modules or lessons. You can have a module collection or a lesson collection. That's it.
As long as you just remember you're kind of in that, uh, those layers, like, it usually clicks. I remember when we like first saw the dynamic elements in ClickFunnels, we were like, what are we looking at?
For sure.
So I think courses was the first one to be released, and I just remember like opening it and being like, I think the one that gets people confused the most is this lesson page and that content right there, that video element, and where you can upload videos or articles to the course itself when you're editing, and then it just shows automatically.
My favorite thing to do— I know on this page Tyson doesn't have it, but my favorite thing to do for like a lesson page is just add the the content body, because then you can customize it fully, um, from there. So I think this one just has the static, uh, static video.
Yeah, this is just a— this is— no, this is a lesson video specifically.
Oh, okay. Yeah, so gotcha.
For, for lessons, let's see, use content body. I'll add a content body real quick. Let's see, it lets me in this flex container Content body, dynamic slots. Boom. Oh yeah, this is, this is an important one anyways. You should have this if you have any text content that you want to show. Content body is going to be what that information shows in. So like the layer that we're creating right now is really just the layout of the course lesson itself. And for the Actual content that you're creating for your lessons, that's all done inside of the course directly, not inside the editor we're looking at right now. This is really just the theme editor or the area where you set up the foundation, the layout, the flow, stuff like that. But the— yeah, so it goes right here.
Yeah, so essentially with how this lesson page is set up right now, every lesson is going to have the lesson title in that video, but then with that dynamically replaced content there Anything that's in that box can be specified specifically for like each lesson. So you can fully customize it past that.
Let me just show what we're referring to here. Just as an example, if I go to—
You're putting together like the cookie mold. Every cookie you bake after is going to look just like that.
There we go. Okay, in the course, I have— I'll go with lesson 1 here as an example. All of the content that we have in this lesson— oh, let me expand this. I'm zoomed in way too far. It doesn't like that. There we go. Okay, uh, all of the content we put in the lesson itself— it could be a headline, it could be a paragraph, it could be icons, it could be images, anything that you want, any regular element— all of this that we're creating inside of that this lesson will show up in the content body location that we have put inside of the editor or inside of the theme page itself. So use that to your advantage. Everything here will automatically pull into that area inside of the course itself. I think that's, that's the only part that we're trying to demonstrate there. I guess I can pull it up and see if it's live. Publish. My Learn to Learn course.
Always here to learn to learn.
Learn to learn.
Oh, I'm not even using the custom one. Actually, if you go back to courses, it's another thing we should also specify here. In order for that dynamic content to actually come into play, we need to head to Customize inside of our course. From there, turn on advanced customization. And that will allow us to pull from the theme page, the one that we were just playing around with a second ago. Where we added the content body. And, um, yeah, that's pretty much it. You can kind of see a rough view of what that would look like right here. If I go and preview it again, hopefully it pulls in the updated version. It does. There we go. So on the left-hand side, we haven't done anything. I don't have any lessons or any videos attached to this or anything like that. But on the right side, we have that content body element in place, and that's what's pulling in this information that we're seeing right here. If I were to remove it, it wouldn't show anything that we added or created inside of the lesson. So you'd need that.
With the last 45 seconds, can we show them how to use, uh, the dynamic content in emails?
In emails?
Uh, yeah, it might take longer than 30 seconds. It's gonna take a lot.
Okay. Uh, emails, are you talking about Workspace? Automations.
Yeah, like contact.firstname.
Got it. Okay, I'm gonna go to this workflow real quick.
Tyson, do you have a call right after this?
No, today I actually put a window afterwards like a responsible guy. I, I normally don't. Uh, edit, edit email. Okay, cool. Now for, for emails, there is an option to insert a merge tag. This is another way to create that dynamic experience that you're looking for. If we click into a text element— if you don't have text element, first off, add one. So on the right-hand side, you can use title, you can use paragraph, anything that is using text will allow you to do this. Um, I already have one here. I'll just click on it directly to start editing. Click on Insert Merge Tag, and you'll see a pop-up appear. This is where you can select any of the dynamic content that you want to use, such as their name, their email, their phone number, whatever you might want to use that for.
I don't know.
There's other ones if you keep scrolling down, if I have them created here. I do. Workspace-specific attributes. So we can see contact. and we can see workspace. The workspace. is another way for you to utilize— we were talking about this earlier— dynamic elements or dynamic content that you can create once and use everywhere inside the platform. If you haven't watched that video, we go deeper In that. But regardless, all this is here in place. I'm gonna go and choose first name right now. But—
Well, you guys dive into this. I was not as responsible as Tyson, so I got another call.
Uh, ciao. See you later, Rob. All right, the, um, okay, that's pretty much it for dynamic content in this area.
There's other areas that we can use this in, but Let us know too if there's anything specifically that this brings up in your head that you think you, you want us to go over in any coaching corner. We'd love to hear your guys' feedback just so we know we're actually going over things that you want to see. Um, but yeah, it was exactly fun time.
Covered a lot in a little bit of time. The main thing we're trying to hone in or hammer down on is that use dynamic content to streamline your editing process. Do it once and then have it pull in without you having to really think about it afterwards. That is—
it was a whimsical time, Tyson.
A whimsical, jovial time.
Whimsical occurrence at Coaching Corner.
God. Um, if you haven't already, this is a little sidestep, but if you would like to come hang out with us live in person— not necessarily us, but with Russell, with Todd— you know, we're talking about AI and how to, how to use it in your business moving forward. It's definitely something you should pay attention to. Uh, What is it? Phone hacking live coming up very soon. Was it next month? This month?
Yeah, this month. We're already in September.
We're in September. You this last calls, guys. If you get your tickets, guys, go get your tickets. I'll put a link in the chat here, and that's it. That's all we have for you today. If you have questions outside of this and would like some help with anything, we are hanging out Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Every morning just for you, um, from 11 AM to 1 PM Eastern Standard Time. That is within open office hours. If you'd like to come hang out, here's the link for that as well.
That's it.
That's all we have for you today. All right, anything else you want to add on top of that, Devin?
I think you did a whimsical job, Tyson, and, uh, can't wait to do this with you again next week.
Okay, until next Tuesday, guys. Happy Tuesday and have a great rest of your week. See you.
See you guys.
See ya.
