The 3 Core Types of Funnels | Coaching Corner #011

David, Rob, and Tyson break down the three funnels every online business needs: a Lead Magnet funnel to build your email list, a Tripwire funnel selling $7-$27 products, and a Core Offer funnel for your $100-$1,000 main product. They walk through email sequences, upsells, and how to stack them together to move customers up a value ladder.

Hey, there we go.
What's up, guys?
How's it going? Going on, everyone. Welcome back to Coaching Corner. David, Rob, Tyson here.
Good to see you guys back for another week. This is coaching corner 11. We're 11 weeks deep in this crazy today. I think we have a fun one. David made a very good suggestion from user feedback and if it wasn't for him, I don't think we'd be talking about this today.
So.
Yeah, yeah, in a good way. It's. This is something that probably a lot of people end up getting stuck on and so without further ado, let's just. We'll talk about it. We're talking about funnels today, guys. Yeah, we do funnels.
What's a funnel?
What's a funnel?
Yeah, I think everyone knows by now.
I like the topic because. Well, Dave, why don't you talk about the topic and then we'll get into it.
Perfect. Right before we talk about that, in case. If this is your very first time watching Coaching Corner, we actually, we did this to start talking about your most pressing questions around how to use clickfunnels and just like, overall business strategy as well, too. Today's Coaching Corner topic is around a business strategy plus, plus a little bit of the technical side as well, too. Okay. So without further ado, we're going to be talking about the only three funnels that you need as a new entrepreneur. Now, us three here in this call. We're the, we're on the comms team with clickfunnels. We do coaching calls all day long and we get, we start, we start to see patterns and common questions. Something that I've noticed here recently is that people are, um, they're excited and ecstatic about getting all the value and training from click models. But some of them start to feel a little bit as if they're swimming in an ocean of value.
Good way to put it.
Too many bells and muscles, too many things.
It's amazing. Like, we got everything right and we, you know, we got so much value and training to offer, but some people, they're just like, hey, I got all this stuff, I just don't have time to consume it all. And so you start to feel like you have to consume it all within a week. Well, don't, don't, don't feel like that. All right. This call is to help you kind of pick a point to start with and then you can just go from there as far as, like, your training, picking out which training that you need to go from there to. Okay, we're not going to connect a specific training to this, to this call, because there's a lot of it out there that you've probably already gotten already. But we can kind of help give you some clarity on which funnel type to start with. So without further ado, are you swimming in an ocean of value and you need some clarity?
Here we go.
I'm treading water.
So, yeah, so here are the only three sales funnels that you need as a new entrepreneur. And by the way, if you could drop in the comments where you're watching from and let us know if you're already a ClickFunnels user member or not, we would love to know where you're from and if you're currently a member or not. All right, so in this video, we'll actually cut through the noise, do our best to show you which exactly. Three funnels that form the foundation of a profitable business. And by the end, you'll have a clear roadmap for building your business without confusion. Does that sound good? Raise your hand.
That's crazy.
Yeah.
Value we're offering right here, right now.
Yeah. To. To quote Tony Robbins, raise your hand and say I. I. Yeah, man. So we'll cover which three funnels that every business needs. We'll cover how they work together to create a complete sales system, and then we'll show you where to find the templates to make it easy. Okay, now, to make it even easier, we're going to share with you the how you can get the full article from our Click Funnels blog that was released just a few days ago, which gave us the idea to talk about it here on this call. So here's the link. Dropped it in the chat. Go on and get that. Save it for later. Dive into it deeper on your own later. Okay, so, like, the. Like the block here Sundays there are 47 different types of funnels that you could build right now, but if you're just starting, you only need three. I'm not sure if 47 is the exact number or if it's just hyperbole, but it is funny.
I mean, people all funnels different things. And I know it's confusing because I've been on calls with people and they're like, do I need a tripwire? Do I need a bridge? Do I need a lead? Do I need a this, that? And it's just like, I'm happy we're doing this because from all the feedback that we've received over the past couple of weeks and months, it's like, just start here.
Yep.
Like get rid of the noise and let's just start here. Something simple that anybody can do.
So add on like it's something, you can extend it, which is the coolest thing. You can start at one point and then later down the road add 10 others and it's okay, right? You do it as you need it. It's not like you have to start with all of them at once.
Yeah, exactly. And we'll cover that too. So the first funnel type is a lead magnet funnel. So the list is the lifeblood of every business. It's the most valuable thing that you can have as a business. So it's, you know, as, as a, as a business. One of the easiest ways to get leads is to create a lead magnet funnel. What's a lead magnet? It's just simply an exchange of value from you, an exchange of their contact information.
Okay.
Usually the most common and most, least friction way possible is just to ask for their email address.
Okay.
You get something of value to their email address.
What I really love about this and just like this diagram in general, and it's going to be scary to people, but you're not selling anything, you're not making money directly from this funnel. Right? And that's scary to people. They're like, why would I build a funnel I don't make money from? Right. But for this, it's all about the list. It's building your list and this is what does it. Right. You have to understand that funnels sometimes is a long game. And this is the, this is the first part of that game. This is the first rule, right? You're getting, this is where you build your list. And then you can see in the diagram, you go from the lead magnet to thank you and that's it. And then you, you have this follow up sequence, right. Where you deliver the thing and then you have an email sequence that goes out. But again, this is just the beginning of your funnel. Remember, a funnel starts like up here and then it goes, you know, down, down, down, down, down. Right? So this is the beginning and I love that it's so simple and people and it just trust this, trust this process and we'll go through the other ones. But this is just super important to, to just remind yourself, just don't, you don't need to sell in the first funnel.
Yeah, this is a great place to get your feet wet as far as building funnels and providing value out there in the world and also marketing it as well if you want to do that. This is also a great place for you to start building your trust with your audience, building a trust and relationship. Now I've heard it said before that you should treat your email list like it's a social media platform. You want to just share with them your day, what's going on. Get them, you know, share with them some things that's going on in your life to and in. In the encouragement to, to create engagement with them. Okay. So engagement is king. And even that's true even in email list.
Yeah. Lead funnels is probably like my favorite funnel type. It's just a simple way to add value without like removing a barrier. So it's probably like a good way to say it, but you're starting a conversation, which is probably the most important thing. If you can start the conversation and continue the conversation, likely the conversion rate is going to be higher when they get to the next step inside of your funnel or value ladder there. If people can know you and trust you before they get to the point where they pull out their credit card, likely they'll actually spend money with you. Who knew? Like, you know, they're complete strangers like to spend money too, but not as often as your friends.
Yeah.
Who trust and love you, you know?
Yeah. And plus also, the more that you can get your, your con, your leads, your, your audience to say yes in micro agreements with you, the better, the more likely they are to actually pull out the credit card and pay you money. Now one of the cool things about this is that with this type and the where we're at today with AI which we're probably going to cover next week, we'll may touch on that next week. We were talking about it. It's never been easier to create lead magnets. All right. It's wild. And we got some fun stuff to show you on that next week.
Okay.
So be. Stick. Stick around. Be sure to stick around for next week for that one. Okay.
All right.
So that's the lead magnet funnel. Real easy, kind of simple. Let's move on. Funnel two, the tripwire funnel. What is it? Why is it called tripwire funnel? A tripwire funnel is just a way for you to sell something very cheap and to get them into your world as a customer instead of as a lead. It's just going to sell a product, something very cheap from 7 to $27. Just cheap enough so that it's easy for them to become a customer, a paying customer, but not so expensive that they don't want to, but just expensive enough so that it gives the perceived value. So somewhere between 7 and $27 is the sweet spot.
Okay. Like anything below 50, I think it's like a good boundary line because you can't go from giving away a free product to a $10,000 course or something. You could, but you might have a lot more objections up front. So this is a good alternative, a good way to like warm people up. Credit card feel more comfortable with. Okay, if I provide, if I give my, this person my card information, I get some value back, which is ideal, right? Provide as much value as you can for that payment still for that, whatever they're buying, then they're gonna want to keep spending money with you because yeah, you know, you're just, you're adding things to their life that they wouldn't have otherwise. Yeah, it's gonna keep going.
Some examples of this are like a book or a mini course, like a four video mini course or maybe like a three hour workshop. What are some examples you guys can come up with?
Think of like worksheet, like bundles of like I've seen this in the YouTube space for video editing, video editing courses and stuff. They'll have a cheat sheet that, that you can buy for like, usually like 20 bucks of different transitions that you can create and kind of like step by step on how to recreate them. Pretty cool. That was like the intro to the actual course itself. And it also include like little short videos of showing like how to set up a specific transition in your platform. That's an example.
What are you guys thoughts on? So I know this is supposed to be, you know, under $50 product, but what are your thoughts on delivery? Should this be something that is like a mini course, it's just digital. You give them the login, you give them access and then they can watch it by themselves. There's no real fulfillment except the automation on the back end. So should this be something that's completely automated, that's totally hands off, or should there be, you know, some type of light funnel audit that is something manual, It'll take your time, but you know, harder to fill. Where's the.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. If, if you're a funnel builder, as an agency, you know, for other businesses, you could offer a funnel audit. And if it were me, I would do that as, as a 30 minute call. Either a 30 minute call or maybe like send me your link and I'll do a funnel audit. Then we can have a 30 minute call. That's probably how I would do it for $50.
Fair. Well, I mean I would like to make this Step as automated as possible to some degree for the Tripwire. I It's something that is still valuable that you can produce easily without having to one and crew a bunch of extra overhead and headache. I don't know. That's usually my my go to. If you can answer both those questions as a. As a yes or as a. It's not adding extra layers to the. To the table here, probably it's gonna be easier on your life to maintain and also to fulfill. Of course it's automated. I'm a fan of digital products at this level personally. Just because it's something that's slow friction, it's low barrier to entry for a lot of things, a lot of people and easy to fulfill.
Yeah, yeah.
Let's talk about real quick this OTO page and this downsell page. If you don't have like an oto a larger product, then you don't have to wait until you have that in order to launch this funnel. You could just launch funnel with your first product and introduce that OTO upsell later. Okay. Don't hold yourself back from launching, but this is a great opportunity to increase your average cart value. If you do have that oto, be sure and also include a downsell page and if you have other products, you can also have an offer wall on your thank you page.
Okay.
Lots. Lots of cool things.
But again, don't let that hold you back. If you're just going to start with your first offer, you have a lead magnet in place and you're just thinking of you have one product to sell and it's low ticket. Just sell that one thing and have a thank you page. That's awesome. And rocks are socks. Socks off. Continue the conversation through email and as time moves forward then yeah. Come back and add those. Those.
Exactly. Yeah. All right, let's move on.
Also, one, one thing to note for upsells and stuff. If you are just getting started and you're not sure what to sell for upsell or downsell, usually you can base it off of the feedback that you get from the people that buy. Like reach out to the people that actually are buying this product, the Tripwire product itself and see what they would actually prefer or wish that you had included in this in this specific offer and you could kind of make that the next logical thing that you would present as well.
Absolutely. It's so important to talk to your early customers. Right. To get that feedback to either to change what you're offering. Right. To either enhance it, include something different, change the way you're teaching something or offering something, but it's so important, and that's something that all of us do on a daily basis, is we talk to customers about how they're using click funnels and the things that they want and, you know, understanding how they're using it, their wants, their needs and where the platform and the direction the platform should go. Right. If we focus all of our attention on a feature or something that not everyone's using, then we should refocus to a place where everybody is getting stuck or wants to move forward with. So just talk to your customers. They're there for you, and they, I promise they won't shy away. If you want to have a, you know, a short conversation with them, most of them will agree to do it.
Yeah, yeah. If you want to. If you need incentive to get people to talk to you as well, you could always offer, I don't know if you have another lead magnet that they haven't seen yet, you know, provide it for free, some sort of value add. If you are doing like some sort of subscription in your model, you could add like a free trial or something. If you help me out with this call or help me out understanding how I can better prove what, you know, what you're doing, I would probably do that after the fact too, of the call. This is just like a value added afterwards that's gonna probably have people stick a lot longer, just love you that much more, you know.
Right, right. Yeah. Discounts, incentives, free stuff, anything that you.
Can do if, if you run into issues with getting people on the call. That's all I'm saying.
Yeah, true. Okay, Funnel three, next, the core offer funnel. So this core offer funnel is going to range price wise, somewhere between 100 to $1,000. And you would consider this your main product. Now, if you're just getting started in your business, you may be thinking about your awesome idea, your service, your product that you want to sell, that's most likely your core author main product. You can expand it up or down from there to create your trip buyers and your lead magnets, or even further down, your profit maximizer, your inner circle type stuff. So whatever's in your head that you had the idea for your business, that's probably your core offer. Okay. You can kind of expand and figure out the other funnels from there. That's usually how I've seen it go. Right. All right, now this all together.
What do you got? What do you got?
We noticed that again, like the lead magnet pushes people into the tripwire, into the Core offer. And as Tyson was saying before, it's. You're nurturing these leads. Like, just because you didn't sell anything in that first, in that first funnel doesn't mean you're not going to sell them anything ever. Right. It's all to lead them and nurture them through the whole, like the whole ecosystem of the funnel. So it's, it's really just understanding that you have to deliver value, build some trust, build, get them to spend a little bit of money, open their wallets, and then you can start building, giving them more value and building more trust before they get to your core offer where they really buy into your system 100%.
Yeah, for sure.
Couldn't agree more.
I didn't come up with it.
I don't know, you said it like you, you. I don't know, being said it a couple times.
But we've just been following this book, you know, that's all we're doing.
What is that book?
Right.
All right, so all of this free plus shipping.
Right.
We'll get into that in a second. Oh, don't.
Yeah, don't spoil it. All right. So all this put together is called funnel stacking. Okay. And again, like, like we've been talking about, you know, the. You can start at the bottom with lead funnel, start building your list or building your trust, and then those email sequences can lead up the pipe. Now a question that we normally get from here is, what about traffic? Which funnel do I send traffic to? Okay, great question. So we've seen it done very well. Like, the answer is all three. Okay. The highest on the value ladder would be like your inner circle. Those are phone funnels. You don't really need to push any traffic there because if somebody just learns about you, it's like, it's like asking somebody on their first date to marry you. You don't have enough trust in order to get that commitment from that person.
Talk about the confidence. David never said about the confidence.
I mean, you might get one out of a thousand.
Yeah, it's a small, close rate.
Possible. It's possible. But you can start with any one of these funnel types and honestly expand out from there. You can send the ads and the social traffic to any one of these funnels. But if they go down and they start with the lead funnels, then there are these, there's going to be this automated email sequences that will push them up the value ladder and eventually it's going to push them all the way into the phone funnels, which is the high ticket stuff. Okay. Anything from 5,000 to 10,000 and beyond.
Yeah, absolutely. You're just creating a system. These all stack together. We're talking about them like they are separate funnels and they are technically, but they all fit together in one, one flow. Like they, they are linked together in how you're staging everything, how you're creating the customer journey. People usually start off with something free just because that shows value first up front. Next, they'll probably spend a little bit of money with you. That's the tripwire. Once they spend a little bit of money with you and they trust you a little bit more, then they're willing to spend more money on your core offer. And now you have a lovely happy customer that you really are. Just, it's not like you're, you're not hassling them, you're just, you're trying to make it so it makes the most sense. By the time they're ready to actually take you up on the offer that you can help them out with, you're letting the funnels are. The journey sell itself. Basically. That's. You're creating a whole, whole journey. You want somebody to go through.
The journey sells itself. I love that.
That's great.
The organic, organic lead generation. I don't know. Organic journey, I don't know.
So here's a question that, that I've had before. It's how much time do you leave in between each of these funnels or do you add a link to the upselling, the next step in the value ladder or the next step in your funnel on the thank you page of your lead magnet? Right. Do you have to, how long do you have to nurture them in a sequence or with the retargeting campaign on Facebook before you show them the next step in your funnel?
I'd say like for the lead funnel, it's probably five to seven emails. Like it's a five to seven email sequence. As a welcome series, you'll probably adjust over time, but I mean the number keeps going up. As far as trust factors that I've, I've heard of, that I've read, I feel like these reports come out every few months and it's like you need 11 different, or it used to say seven different touch points before someone will trust you and buy from you. And then it was 11 and now it's like, like 23 or something. It's, it keeps going up. So I think the goal is to like, if you can get in front of them in a non confrontational way, in a helpful way. I'm gonna say at least 11 times before they actually end up pulling out their credit card. I think you're in good, good shape.
Yeah.
Yeah. That shouldn't stop you from enter from injecting your higher offers into these other funnels because I've seen a lot of like higher offers being added onto a free opt in or a tripwire funnel. So once you get good at it, then you can start to add those higher offers into those lower funnels. But they should still be added as their own independent funnels as well. So we're going to. Let's talk a little bit about which one to start with. I think if you need to make sales really fast, if you're kind of in a time crunch for money, then you could do a free webinar where you offer your higher ticket offer at the back end of it. You know, maybe $300 for your course, product or service.
Getting started. Okay.
Yeah. Or if you are somebody that you feel more comfortable with starting, giving away something of value for free to build up your trust with your audience, then start with the lead model. I think it's just up to you and your preference and your comfortability where you currently are.
Do you have, do you have an existing pipeline? Do you have an existing audience that you can talk to? Do you have all these things set up in place first, first, or are you starting from just getting started? If you're just getting started, I mean, and maybe this is the first funnel you've ever created in your life and that's okay. That's perfectly fine. We, we accept everyone here. That's a lead funnel is probably gonna be the easier one to start with if that's the. Where you are currently in your journey. Everyone needs leads. Every business needs leads. Doesn't matter who you are, doesn't matter what business you're working with. Everyone needs leads. So. And it's two steps. It's just a two step funnel, meaning it's a lot easier to get up and running. Plus there's a lot of things that we have in store for you that might help out with this, that we might jump on at the end. Templates. I don't know things that will make up the, make the process even easier. But start with where you are.
Do you have anything to add before we go on to where we find them?
Yeah. Like we were saying, everyone's in a different part of their journey. Right. And I know a lot of people focus on the self liquidating funnel. Right. Self liquidating funnel is however much you're spending on ads, that's how much you're making back within your funnel. Right. And your self liquidating funnel might, when you first start, it might start at the lead funnel. Right. It might start at that first step. But as you grow and as you start getting traction in a name and people start recommending you and you know you have to do less marketing, maybe you started the unboxing funnel and that's where you, you know, and then the self liquiding starts there and then everything above that is more is profit. Right. So it's really, I think it, it's really about just sticking to the system and adapting to what works for you.
Agreed.
True, true, true. All right, let's talk about where to find them. So in your clickfunnels account, you can either click this yellow create button and click funnel right there and it will bring you to the same place. I'll show you in a second. Or you can click on funnels over here at the top left. And we're going to do create funnel right here at the top right. And we've got templates here to make it nice and easy for you. Got lead funnels here. Pick the lead squeeze funnel. That one's easier. Sell the funnel takes a lot more setup. You have to contact a bunch of experts for that one. The lead squeeze funnel here is the one that we were talking about. And then there's the unboxing funnel. One of the most common that you can use is either the book funnel or the cart funnel. Also challenge funnels. All three of these are very good.
These are the tripwire specific funnel types.
Yes, yes. And then webinar funnel is the traditional.
Webinar funnel or vsl. I'm a VSL fan. I know that's unconventional.
All right.
It's out there. I just, I, I think they look cleaner, personally.
For those, for those of you that don't know, a VSL funnel is basically like putting webinar on the first page and then just letting that sell it. You know, having a nice long page and having an order page on the second page.
I like starting with just a simple lead magnet and then the vsl. It always like took me time to put those together, recording the content, cutting it, making sure it's like perfect. It always took some time. So I agree though, it's, it's always fun to do and I love them because they work really, really well. But if you don't have a video, if you don't have a vsl, then you can totally start without it.
Yep.
So what's the content from the webinar funnel, too. You know, you build it up, create the recording from that. I get it.
Yep. True story. True story. So once you select your funnel type, then you can click into it. You can actually learn a little bit more about the funnel overview, the strategy, the implementation from Russell. And then you can see the structure here and view a couple of these templates. Once you preview it and you're happy with the one that you want, then you just select the funnel and it imports into your account in just a few seconds. It's great.
Oh, wait, there's more. Rob. Rob, you want to show us what's coming?
I do want to show them something.
Let's do it.
For the people that actually show up to these calls, we want to give you a little bit more value and insight to what's coming out. So, released yet? And let's see if somebody runs into the room and stops me.
Sure. Don't tell anybody.
Yeah.
All right, let me screen. But this is going to make it so much easier beyond all the AI that we have coming out, beyond how easy it is just to create a funnel with a prompt. We have some other special things that we're releasing for you. And should I show them? I mean, I want to see some love in the chat.
Come on.
I want to. Let's see. I have some power right now. This is fun.
Yeah.
Type a show in the comments if you want your. I'll stop to show you.
I'm going to start from my workspace and. All right, let's share this. All right, you guys ready for this? All right, so as you guys know, as we demoed last week, we have this insane AI funnel builder that is either in your account or going to be released to your account. It's only for people who are in the 1cc challenge and have beta access to this. But what we're going to be releasing, if you don't want to use the AI tool, you'll go over to Funnels. And what David was showing before is really cool, and it's something that we built, but we wanted to deliver more value and just make it easier for you to create funnels and know what works and know what looks good. So I'm going to go over to create Funnel and boom. Look at this. This is our new funnel template gallery. How cool is this?
Expanded so much.
It's organized. Yeah, it's organized by the category.
Host a webinar, sell a digital physical product, sell a service. It's so easy to get started. And these are proven funnels that work. We took these straight out of Russell's playbook. You can see them all over the place here. Some of our highest level funnel builders helped add to this. So if you want to sell a digital product, if you want a lead funnel, product funnel, whatever you want, it's here. If there's something you don't see here, let us know. We'll add the category to get you started faster. And all you have to do is here, let's do, let's do something really easy. I'm just getting started. I just need a lead funnel. Right. That's where we want people to start. So I'm going to pop over here. This is my lead squeeze funnel three. Something super simple. And I'm just going to click use this template and you can see what's included. An opt in and a thank you page. Right. And just remember, this is not the end of your full funnel ecosystem. This is just the beginning. This is where you're going to collect leads. So you click on that button, it's going to install it right into your workspace. And then all you'll need to do is, is go into the funnel and customize it to whatever you're selling. Whether you have a free ebook, you have, you know, some free, you know, free funnel audit, whatever it is, you just pop in here and oh man, I probably have a lot of cool stuff that, that's going to be coming out. But you just change this to whatever you want and it all works out of the box.
Yeah, it already collects information as you'd want it to. You just need to design it. Like not design it, add a image, add some text and then ship it.
Customize it.
Just customize it. It's so easy to get started. People who tell me that they don't know what to do, they don't know how to start, they don't know how to collect leads. It's just do this. Like this is what Russell does.
Use what we've used. Use what's given to you. Set up.
It's easy.
Please. Just kidding. It makes it so much easier. Honestly, just you don't have to think about it as much. That's the biggest thing.
Yeah.
And there's a bunch here and we're going to keep on adding to this. So just keep an eye out. And you know, all these here, I want to see one that like Russell here. I think this one. No, that one. But it's just so easy. We have tons. I think there's over 300 templates that we've added here for you. Right. So here's your first bridge. Funnel. Opt in Bridge. That's literally it. Right? Here's one that Russell used. If you want one that Russell uses. If you think Russell knows what he's doing, use this one. It's just so easy. So look out for this. This is going to be landing in your workspaces, hopefully soon. I'm not putting a date on it, but yeah. So that's going to be great.
Yeah. So we got some more examples on the page.
