Your First Workflow Automation

Todd Dickerson sets up a workflow automation on a ClickFunnels opt-in funnel called "Workout With Me 7-Day Workout Plan." He creates a new workflow that triggers when someone opts in, adds a contact tag, and sends a welcome email using a template. He then tests the workflow by submitting an email address and confirms the contact gets tagged and the email sends.

All right, looks like we are live. Let me just double check. Perfect. Okay, yes, we are live. So welcome everybody to Training Tuesday. Very happy to have all of you with me today. So today I want to talk about workflow automations. This, this entirely stemmed from a question that came from the onboarding call, which was yesterday. And if you're unfamiliar with the onboarding call, it is kind of that first touchpoint for anyone who first joins ClickFunnels, and I host it every Monday. And what we do in that onboarding call is we walk through the very basics of your ClickFunnels workspace, and then we jump straight into funnel building. So within about 15 minutes, you're going to learn how to build a lead squeeze funnel in the onboarding call every single Monday. When we do that though, we don't just build a single funnel. I also attach a workflow automation to it. That way we can tag the contact and send them a welcome email. So basically, all in about 20 to 25 minutes, you go from learning ClickFunnels workspace to building your very first funnel to attaching a workflow to that very first funnel. That way you're ready to collect leads and then tag the contacts that come in as leads, and then they will be sent an automated email. Now The question that came from yesterday was, and this is pretty overarching in general, a lot of people start to pick up that funnel building process. So they're starting to learn it, they're starting to learn about all of the different elements, right? The sections, the rows. And so they're digesting all of that information. And by the time we get to the finished funnel portion and we're ready to attach the workflow, you can kind of see that most people at that point have absorbed as much information as they can, right? We can only absorb as too— as so much information before it kind of starts to overflow, and we might need to reiterate and learn those things over time. So what I wanted to do is simply skip the funnel building process, right? A lot of people do know how to build funnels at this point. So what I really want to focus on is taking the lead squeeze funnel that I have completed and attaching a workflow to it. So by the time that we're done with this training, you should feel at least comfortable with starting to implement some basic automations into your funnels. Of course, this is super beneficial for several reasons, and I'm gonna cover all of those reasons when we're actually building it. But like I mentioned at the top, in this simple automation, I'm gonna do two things. I'm gonna first, I'm gonna tag a contact. That way we can keep everything organized on the backend inside of ClickFunnels. I can go to my contacts and I can see the tag, and that'll give me an idea of knowing which funnel they're coming in from, right? Because as I build and expand on my brand inside of ClickFunnels, I'm going to keep building more and more funnels, which gives more opportunities for people to come and join me on this journey. And so of course I want to make sure I know which funnel people are opting in from. So with that being said, we'll go ahead and show that entire process off. Now the second step is going to be sending them a welcome email. And I'm not actually going to build the email here because that's just an entirely separate training that we can do, but you'll at least see how to get it set up that way. Again, instead of you have your funnel built, someone comes in, they opt in, and that's it. They're registered as a contact on your backend, but it ends there. With this automation, what it's going to do after that is going to give them a tag. That way we can keep organized and they get an additional touchpoint they get a welcome email, and that way they can get to the next step of my ladder of my offer. So let me go ahead and jump into the platform here. And I'm here in a fresh workspace and I'm going to swing over to the funnels button. Now I do want to take note, we have the automations app and you can create an automation here and you can attach it to any funnel. But like I said, I want to go to a specific funnel and attach a workflow to it. So I'm going to swing up to my funnels and I have this Workout With Me 7-Day Workout Plan funnel. Let me go ahead and click on this and show it to you guys. So I'm going to quickly preview this page here and you'll see it's just your standard opt-in funnel. I took the template and I recreated it. And so the idea here is that someone comes to the funnel page and they can opt in to get my 7-day workout plan guide. Now when they opt in, they're gonna get to the thank you page, and that thank you page will then also give them the opportunity to jump to my next offer, which is of course a paid offer, and that's going to be my FitLife Bootcamp offer. So if I go back here and preview the thank you page, you can see exactly that, right? So thank you, you're gonna get the email with the exact offer from that opt-in. And then here is more information on my paid offer, and you can head straight here from this touchpoint. But of course, a lot of people will say, okay, great, I got the thank you, I'm gonna take a look at that email, and they're just gonna X out of it, right? So here we are in our funnel, and if I take a look at the top here, there's several different buttons, right? I can jump straight into the editor here. You'll see this next one, that's the one we're gonna go to. It says workflows. But if I keep looking over, I can see opt-ins. That way we'll be able to come back here and see the opt-in once we actually complete it and test it. And we have a few other things like orders and stats here. So like I said, I'm going to tap on workflows first and foremost, and you can see there's no workflow attached to this funnel currently. So let's go ahead and click the attach a workflow. And you can see we have several workflows created, But again, I want to walk through the process of creating a brand new workflow in this training. So I'll tap on new workflow and we'll give it a name. Now, what I like to give a name is if we're going to be tagging contacts and sending emails, I want to make sure that the tag is associated directly to the funnel. And I want to make sure that this, this workflow is kind of in that same vein. So I'm going to call this the 7-day, 7-day workout plan workflow. And then under event type on this dropdown here, you can see there's a couple different options here, but what we really want to make sure is this is getting triggered during the opt-in. So I'll go ahead and select that and let's create the workflow. Now this is the screen that you can start the workflow from. You can see that we have one current trigger. So I'll go ahead and click in here. And basically what this is enabling is anyone that comes to the opt-in page, that is the Workout With Me 7-Day Workout Plan Example funnel. This is what the trigger would be. So I can come in here and I can change that out if I want to. I'm going to discard this for now because I'm going to add an additional trigger. So you can see there's a couple different, or there's a lot of different things here that we can set as the trigger. So let's say, you know, someone comes and they cancel, or they, you know, they cancel their subscription, right? We can set a trigger to automatically maybe send them a follow-up email asking them why they wanted to cancel, right? So you can see there's a lot of different opportunities that we would use to trigger an actual workflow. For this one, I simply want to do opt-in. Now it's going to ask me which funnel. So I can go and find the exact one, 7-day. There we go. And then it's going to ask me the exact page I want the trigger to start. Now you can see I have 2 pages on that, so I'll go ahead and select the opt-in page. And then I also want to make it active. So if I save that, you can see I've basically created that same exact trigger manually. So I'll go ahead and just turn that off since we have exactly the same thing. So what it's saying is someone comes in, they opt in on this specific funnel, let's go and trigger it. But what are we triggering now? So we need to go ahead and set a step here. So when I click that plus button, we get the pop-out and now we can say, okay, what do we want to actually do? What is our automation doing here? So if I look through here, I can see that send email, but I don't want to do that yet, right? I want to tag my contact contact first and foremost. So if I scroll down, you can see there's all different options. Here's our tag contact. So I'll go ahead and just tap on that. Now we can add a tag or we can remove a tag. We want to add the tag because people are opting in here and there's all kinds of different opportunities for tags. Some people really like it to be very, very specific. Some people like to categorize it as very broad. What I like to do is I like to create the tag as basically the same name as the funnel. That way I know, hey, they opted in on this funnel and I can see that because the tag is literally the name of the funnel. So you can see 7-day workout plan opt-in is perfect. So I'll go ahead and create that step. And now I'm ready to go, right? I have my workflow trigger. Someone opts in. That's going to trigger it. And now when they opt in, it is going to add a tag in our contact list. That way I know they came from that specific funnel. So step 1 is completed. Now we still need to send the welcome email. So I'm going to go ahead and add an additional step here. And I'm going to scroll back up where I saw the send email and let's go ahead and tap on that. Now it's immediately going to say, okay, choose a template for this email. So I'm just going to go ahead and select the very first one because you'll see that it's going to give us the name that we want the email to get sent out. Thank you for opt— opting in to work out with me. And then a subject, right? We can do that as well. Workout— workout Workout with Me Opt-In. Perfect. You can also add a contact field. I just want to make a note here, right? If I wanted to personalize this, I could say, you know, welcome to the Workout with Me opt-in, and then it would personalize it with their first name there. So you can do that. I just want to mention that. And then we can see our from address is already set and our reply to is set. I'll create this. So there we go. We have our welcome email ready to go, but it's still a template, right? So we need to actually come back into it. And you can't see this button when you're getting this set up. You have to set the actual email up first, and then we can come back into this step and we have the edit email option. So if I tap on here, it's going to open up my email editor. Now, like I said, this is going to be a separate training where I go over the email editor. It's very similar to the funnel editor itself. There's some minute changes, but overall it's relatively the same. So I'm going to back out because let's just assume that this is welcoming— welcome them in, and then of course talking about the FitLife Bootcamp offer that we had on the thank you page. So we'll just click publish. And go back. And once that email is set to go, then you're ready to test the workflow, right? So here it is. Everything's good. It's attached. And I'm going to go back to my funnel. And if I take a look at this button right here, you can see that that attached workflow is ready. Now it is inactive still. So if I tap back into it, My Workout trigger. Nope, that's not it. Give me one second here. We don't want the— it on the thank you page. All right, let me— let's take a look because we should be able to activate it easily from there. I'm going to come into my automations actually. So let's take a look. Let's dive into this automations tab here and I can see it's still set up as draft. So if I come in here, I need to enable it in the settings because it tells me right there at the top. Perfect. So let's go into the settings. I can see its status, it's disabled. Here's the toggle. Let's toggle it on. Now I'll update my workflow. Now my workflow is active. I'm ready to go. I'm ready to test this out. So I'll swing back. I'm going to go back to my funnels. I'll go Workout With Me, and now I'm going to go ahead and preview this page. So here we go. Let me just enter my email. That way you guys can see this in action. So I entered my email there. I'll get the workbook now. It's going to opt me in, so I'm ready to go. I can see my thank you page, and I'm good. So now I'm going to swing back here into my workspace, and if I go to my Customers tab here and tap on Contacts You're going to see right there that it's ready to go. Now I bounced because that's not actually my email. You can see Aaron at ClickFunnels was already subscribed, so I just wanted to put a unique email address in here, Aaron O at ClickFunnels, and it was under— again, it bounced because it's not a real email, but you can see that the contact was immediately tagged on the back end. And if this were a real email, this would have been immediately sent out. So that is it. That's essentially what I wanted to show you guys, right? We can create the funnel and we can have it ready to go, but we can take it a step further and add these extra little details, add these little extra touchpoints. That way we have more opportunities to convert potential leads into customers. So workflow automations are incredibly powerful, and you can see there are several different opportunities that you can do with them, not just tag contacts and then send welcome emails. You can also do several different automation touchpoints. So, oh, wrong camera angle there. So with that being said, I want to ask you guys if you have anything that you want to learn about ClickFunnels. This stemmed directly from a question, and last week's training on the countdown funnels was also directly from a question. So let us know in the comments, or if you're watching this after the live, just leave a comment. Let us know what you want to learn about ClickFunnels, because I'm happy to cater all Training Tuesdays to exactly what you guys want to learn. So with that being said, thank you guys so much for coming to Training Tuesday, and we will see you next week. Thanks again.
