Day 50: Overthinking Is the Thief of Action

Tony Stark Policci caught himself overthinking a gym session, decided fast, and did a 35-minute bike ride instead. He's experimenting with sunrise and sunset light exposure for circadian rhythms, and reminds himself that action beats debate every time.

Hey, it's day 50 and happy summer. So this amazing sign behind me was created by my wonderful stepdaughter who is one heck of an artist and has got the biggest heart in the entire world. Big as the state of Texas. So why am I standing in front of it? Just because it's awesome. And so I want to talk to you about the last couple days. Last couple days, I have really struggled with motivation, right? Getting up and just wanting to go after the things that are a normal part of my routine, like the workouts and everything. It's really taken a tremendous amount of intentionality and effort to work through the resistance that has been there. And one of the things that I've noticed again, and I've noticed this multiple times, I've mentioned it in a few of the videos, is this tendency to like debate what is the best thing to do. Should I go to the gym now? Should I wait? Should I do it later? I don't have enough time. Maybe I have enough time, you know, versus just making a quick decision and doing it. And so yesterday, I did make a video yesterday, day 49, but, you know, I wrestled with that for about 10 minutes before I just said, what are you doing? You're doing it again. You're caught up in this routine of second-guessing yourself and debating. Like, it, you know, comes from worrying about making a mistake and not making the right decision. So, I just made a decision and I did it, right? This morning, it was, I did not want to invest the time to drive to the gym, do the cardio in the gym, and then come home. I had a meeting to get to very early this morning. So, I worked out here in the backyard. I've got the equipment. I've got the ability, just get it done, right? And then I went out and I took a 35-minute bike ride to get my cardio in. I got it all done, got home in time, 10 minutes before my meeting, you know, and it worked out great. So, there's really something there for me when it comes to, recognizing that there's this tendency to second-guess everything, and I'm really pressing into overcoming that. And it likes to hang on, you know. It's like trying to shake peanut butter off your fingers. I mean, No matter how hard you shake, there's still some left on there. Trying to get rid of it, but still working on it. Also, one of the things I'm adding today is I found some research that showed that actually morning sunlight is really great, but the best sunlight, and you may know this, is sunrise and sunset, because there's something about the vibrations and the rays that happen. So it's not just morning sunlight, it's sunrise and even sunset. So it's about an hour before sunset now. I'm going to go out and try and do that tonight too, and we'll see if that impacts my circadian rhythm at all. Also, maintaining a positive attitude and a joyful, expectant attitude in spite of evidence showing otherwise is absolutely possible, right? Because I have done that this week with— there's circumstances that are not going the way that I want them to go, and I am choosing to, you know, just have trust and faith in the process and myself and what I'm doing and what I'm working on in in spite of that. However, last night I got like extremely just exhausted, fatigued. And I don't know if that is because of just the, maybe the amount of mental effort that it's taking for me to, you know, work to overcome some of the default ways that I think and feel when I see certain things happening or what, but whether that was mental, emotional, spiritual, physical, I don't even know. I just decided to, to lay down and I slept for quite a few hours and then actually went to bed early and, you know, just rested. And I woke up extremely exhausted again this morning and pressed into the training and the movement and nutrition and everything Anyway, so we're at the end of the day now and I feel pretty good. So it's a process. I don't know if this is making any sense to anyone that's watching this, but I guess the summary is like you're not always going to feel like doing the things that are important to you. But you can do it. You can do it. You can have a good attitude in spite of difficulties. You can find joy in spite of hard times, you know, sad things happening, bad events. You can find gratitude in like every single day, right? It's really important, I think, to pay attention to what you have and what is good, because those things tend to get pushed down and forgotten about. And there's always something to be grateful for. So focus on that. Know that every single day is an opportunity for you. It's great to be alive. It's really great to be alive. It's another opportunity to live, to love, to spend time with the people that matter to you, to make a difference in the world, to speak encouragement, life, and love into those around you. So it's a choice. It really is a choice. So I hope that you choose to enjoy your life and make the best of it today. Do the best that you can. And, you know, if it doesn't turn out the way that you hope, well, tomorrow is a fresh chance, right? And you don't even have to wait till tomorrow because every moment is a new moment. There's a new opportunity. So I hope there's something in there for you with that, and I'll see you next time.
