Day 62: When Motivation Fails, Discipline Has to Lead

Tony Stark Policci hit a five-day wall where motivation vanished despite good habits like sunlight and supplements. He restarted a splits-training app and committed to thirty minutes after waking for four days straight. When motivation fails, he says, discipline and a clear picture of why you're doing it has to carry you through.

Okay, I'm standing outside of the gym. Just got done working out and I want to talk about the last few days. So it is going on 5 days now where I have really had to push through massive resistance for everything. Yeah, I don't entirely know what's going on. I've been consistent with almost all of the new behaviors that I've added, you know, sunlight, grounding, you know, supplements, declarations, everything. The physical stuff has been exceedingly more difficult. Overcoming the resistance, mental resistance, and the thoughts to work out has been exceedingly more difficult. Not sure what's up with that. Now, how I've overcome it is I just do it anyway, right? The— there's like no physical motivation. There's no mental motivation. In fact, there's resistance on both sides. The mind doesn't want to do it. The body is sore. I'm sore. I'm— I have pain. It's hard to get moving. And so what I've done in the past few days is I've taken on an additional activity. So there's this app that I use, it's a splits app. It trains you to actually do the splits. And back during the pandemic, I was doing that every day. You know, it was, it's like a 90-day program and I just repeated it and I did it for like a year and a half and then I stopped. So I started up a few months ago here and there sporadically, but I don't want to do it. I don't want to get up in the morning and do it. It's hard. So for the past 4 days, I have been doing that consistently and I just do it. Within probably half an hour of waking up, I just step into doing that. My mind is arguing with me the whole way. You know, well, not the whole way, but for the first few minutes. So I just gotta press through it. So that's my suggestion, you know, is look, you know what you want to do, you know what your, what your goals are, what is important to you. And so look, the resistance is going to come, the body may not want to you know, support what you're doing. But I just want to encourage you to press through it. You can do it. And you know what, I guess if there's a dominant thought that I keep in my head while I'm dealing with this, it is, you know, ultimately what are the results of me putting forth this effort and breaking through this, you know. And it is retaining my mobility, fighting aging, continuing to, you know, to stay strong, to be able to do the things that I want to do. And, you know, that's important at any age. So if you can't find your why just simply because you've scheduled something, then maybe put the picture in your mind of what the result is. You know, what, what is it that is going to be the result of the effort? I hope that helps, and I'll talk to you in the next video.
